MeyRon doodles

Finally I found out 4 pieces of MeyRon,unfortunately most of them are WIPS. It's funny to see these doodles which I drew two years ago. They recalls my memories from the pass.

First,please look at Hamburglar and Birdie the Early Bird, they once made me think of a MeyRon canon. Let alone Yana calls "Hamburglar" instead of "Ronald" when she's making the manga. She mentioned the character's nickname in Black Butler,Vol.22.

I got the idea from the movie"Wristcutter:A Love Story". It is a film set in a strange afterlife way station that has been reserved for people who have committed suicide. Sounds like a applicable plot for the grim reapers, yeah? The film aims to discuss life and death, and the most important one,love.You can find many nice little touches and a vein of black humour in the story.

I drew this piece when I was reading Kyougoku  Natsuhiko's book,Kousetsu Hyaku Monogatari.The novel is adapted as animation "Requiem from the Darkness". Ronald is in a captor look,holding a Jitte(じって) in his hand while Mey-Lin dresses herself as a kunoichi.

I drew this only for the McQeen jacket and the tulle skirt.Poor Ronnie.

These are shots from the opening credits of "Requiem from the Darkness." It had a short run on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block, but other than that, it didn't get much exposure in the US. It was an atmospheric, creepy show, starring an author named Momosuke who was traveling around Japan to collect a hundred horror stories for a compilation novel. As a result of this, he kept running into people (trickster beings? specters? minor deities? it's never really explained) named Mataichi, Nagamimi, and Ogin, who punish the wrongdoings of sinners in frightening ways. Ultimately, this is supposed to avert a major disaster, but boy does shit happen along the way.

As you probably guessed, this isn't a happy-fun-sunshine-and-rainbows show. The coloring and shading is gloomy, the stories are dark, and the ending is bittersweet. But the soundtrack is pretty cool, and I tend to defend the under-represented anyway, so if there's a way to at least check out a few episodes, why not try it?
