Very excited abt blue exorcist s3!!!-> person who never watched the anime
this will either be vindication or continued annoyance depending on how people treat yukios characters in the season tho(is the anime worth it to watch?)
okay so full disclaimer i haven't touched the anime since i was maybe like. fifteen or something? so my memories of it are a bit fuzzy however Comma, i remember it being pretty good except for when they went anime original in season 1! it adapts the manga faithfully until like s1 ep 15 or somewhere around there, and then the rest of season 1 sucks. bad. BUT for season 2 they just. act like the anime original shit never happened and start to adapt the manga again from where they left off, and from what i remember season 2 was really great i have very very fond memories of the anime impure king arc!! so if you don't want to sit through anime original stuff then you can just skip it it has literally no bearing on season 2 or anything going forward, its a very clean and easy skip. the animations alright (aside from some poor, dated cg lol) and i remember the voice acting being really great! it was very nice to see the characters move around and talk lmao, so with all that in mind yeah i'd recommend it if you're interested at all!

So funny to me how in Blue Exorcist, Rin is barefoot for like, MOST of the Kyoto arc. Like he gets up one morning to practice and he's just training with Shura when everything pops off and doesn't fucking stop. He's still barefoot and he's fucking arrested and sentenced to death, put in a cell, put in ANOTHER cell that's actually a demon, broken out of both cells, riding up a mountain, fighting the Impure King, and he STILL hasn't had a second to put on his shoes. Every time I see his bare little feet I think it;s soooo amusing.

Can I get any headcanons for Rin Okumura w/ a foreign s/o who’s trilingual? Like maybe they have a sort of culture shock in their lifestyle differences? Maybe the s/o can be from a completely different continent and studying to become an exorcist from their nationality section? Just a thought, if not, feel free to ignore mad delete the quest plz and thank you!
a/n: I ABSOLUTELY LOVE RIN THANK YOU FOR THIS ASKđŸ˜đŸ™đŸ» also sorry for eventual grammar errors :/
Tumblr media
* now, this might be wishful thinking of me, but considering the Japan branch is controlled by the grigori and there are multiple scenes in the manga where some of the characters mention just being back from the Vatican
* I like to think the oldest, and main, branch of the exorcist is indeed in Italy, Rome, near the Vatican headquarters. Is basically the oldest and most powerful institution, having people all over the globe.
* I imagine that one day, the Japan branch is in need of new members, so the Italian branch sends some of the students to form overseas
* Which is how you meet the others and Rin. Mephisto presented you and your whole group to the class. Maybe you just so happen to sit beside Rin. Which would be both amusing and awkward as he is an odd ball.
* Especially if he is under the impression you don’t speak Japanese very well, he will stare at you like this đŸ§đŸ»â€â™‚ïž(cut to a broken English moment like bachira in that one clip of blue lock)
* But anyway, I think he would be the most prone and interested right off the bat. He loves cooking and baking, we know that right? So imagine him asking you for recipes on recipes from your country.
* Still, Japan has a very different culture, especially if you’re from Europe/the states. I can see someone who’s not used to remove their shoes indoor 24/7 for example, forgetting about it and Rin just looks at you like this
* The thing is, despite the little differences Rin always felt he didn’t fit in. Since before he found out he was half demon. So, falling in love with a foreigner it’s not too far fetched for him. He is probably one of the few who I can actually see dating (and marrying) a foreigner.
* He knows what it means being different, feeling the odd one out, so the little cultural differences don’t really face him that much
* If anything, with the excuse of spending more time with you, he will try to teach you a few things here and there
* How to use chopsticks. The proper honours greeting in Japan. How to act in temples.
* Rin is not one to follow the rules, but he is still respectful and excited for traditional Japanese celebrations. By good or stories, he will try to immerse you in the culture somehow
* Which side note, but I can 100% see him dressing you and him up in a kimono for a festival that requires more traditional wearing
* Also, he was sheltered most of his life— considering his troubled childhood. We saw in the impure king arc how excited he was at the idea of travelling to Kyoto that I wouldn’t put it past him if he had looked up “Kyoto itinerary what to see”
* So having a s/o who speaks multiple languages? That’s just a bonus. He will follow you like a puppy around the world just excited to be with you and being able to share these opportunities.
* After all, being an exorcist means travelling all over the place the higher your position in. And Rin wants to become the paladin. Sooo, kill two birds with one stone?

Yukio was very lucky to have been subjected into a compelling "belly of the beast" arc. Rin and Suguro already got theirs during the Kyoto Impure King Saga. Kamiki got hers during the Nine Tails Arc. Yukio's was bound to come and it was executed awesomely.

Okay, as long time fan of Blue Exorcist, I never ship Rin and Yukio. But after reading your posts and reread the manga, I can totally see it...! Perhaps I never ship them because I saw them as brothers but if they were just friends, I must already ship them. Now, I'm more open minded thanks to you! Since what moment that you start shipping them? Can I ask, what do you love about their dynamics?
It's definitely hard equipping siblings when that relationship is the first thing you get to know about them but at the end of the day you're free to make them not related in your headcanons. Them being related is undeniably part of the charm for many of the Okumuracest shippers, myself included.
Admittedly I didn't start out shipping them as well. Until I watched the Kyoto Impure King Arc sometime last year, aoex was just like bsd for me, fun to watch but no popular or rare pairs catching my interest. Their little moment at the end of it all really made me start to wonder if there really could be more to them.
Never been one to particularly enjoy twin or sibling protayals where they get along and are almost literally the same person, which is why Yukio ananRin's vast differences really made me look forward to their interactions. Yukio is distant, standoffiish and undeniably pretentious attitude while Rin is more honest and raw one. They're pretty strong characters and I know I'd still ship them if they weren't siblings (mainly bc there's also the background taboo student x teacher thing but still ^^)
Hope I managed to sate your curiosity anon, omw to watch the recent episode while I have breakfast <3333

tag dump - verses and timelines
v: Containment Breach Fearing discovery and retribution from the Arc Knight Lewin Light, Dennis flees the academy to escape with what little life he has obtained for himself. Then, for reasons unknown, he winds up right back where he's started - yet, somehow, somewhere entirely different at the same time.
v: The Blazing Star After spending the entirety of his life being told that he will one day sacrifice everything for Lucifer so that he may live in Assiah in peace, Dennis asks why. More pointedly, he asks what in Assiah has captivated his father so much, and if he can go out to see it for himself. The request for this self-led pilgrimage is approved, and Dennis is placed under the surveillance of Renzo Shima as they both set out to attend True Cross Academy and the Order's cram school.
t: Turning the Page Connected to The Blazing Star verse; Set within the early chapters, when the students are pages working towards the rank of exwire. For all intents and purposes, Dennis is human presenting and comes from a rich family living off the coast.
t: Crossed Wires Connected to The Blazing Star verse; Set after the class collectively achieves their promotion and become exwires. The real tests for them have begun and Rin's demonic heritage reveal sets a tone across the board. Dennis remains steadfast in being human, despite being something less than.
t: Kyoto's Rot Connected to The Blazing Star verse; Set during the Impure King arc, as everyone is reeling from the truth about Rin while also dealing with the rising threat of the Impure King. Dennis is finding himself drawn towards his fellow nephilim, unable to ignore the kindred spirit even though - socially speaking - he needs to stay away.
t: The Illuminati's Light Connected to The Blazing Star verse; Set during the Shimane Illuminati arc, Dennis remains at True Cross Academy while Renzo kidnaps Izumo and returns to the Illuminati. For once in his life, he is truly free and on his own, but for the sake of appearances he returns to old stomping grounds to save his so-called friend.
t: Snowfall Connected to The Blazing Star verse; Set during the Beyond the Snow arc, Lewin's presence and investigation around the Illuminati puts both Renzo and Dennis in hot water. Panicked and afraid, Dennis attempts to flee everything before he can be captured. By doing so, he finally reveals his demonic heritage to the others, and is faced with choices he'd rather avoid altogether.
t: A Long Night Connected to The Blazing Star verse; Set during the Blue Night arc, Dennis is back on the Dominus Liminis with Yukio and Renzo. He resents everything, especially Yukio for forcing his return, but Dennis faces everything back home as bravely as he can to keep up appearances.
t: Tattered Clothes Connected to The Blazing Star verse; Set during the One Cloth arc, Dennis has escaped the clutches of Lucifer and the Illuminati, and swears fealty to the Order of the True Cross finally under the pretense of dying on his own terms, for himself, rather than for someone who has never loved him.

Kyoto arc aka how I had a flashback to another manipulative bastard
As you probably know, the Illuminati arc of Blue Exorcist is airing at the moment. I love that anime, so I decided to catch up by watching Kyoto arc, since I dropped it last time due to how others were treating Rin post-Satan's kid-reveal, but that's for another post. So, Yukio and others were acting like asses, Impure King is out and about, an exorcist turned out to be traitor and a demon and then.
And then. Said exorcist - named Todo, hah! - ate a phoexix and became younger. His voice turned to be that of Jun'ichi Suwabe (who also voices Sukuna in JJK) and proceeded to play mind games with Yukio, but that's half the problem. The flashback to Sukuna started when Todo called Yukio interesting and said he caught his attention by flashing Satan's eyes at him.
*Cue flashback to Megumi and Sukuna during Cursed Womb arc*
All in all, I finished Kyoto arc, but I didn't expect to catch a flashback to my favorite character from another anime and the villian that focused his attention on said character. Yuck!

blue exorcist little complaints
re-reading/rewatching blue exorcist kyoto arc and beyond. even though i adore the series, i always have some kind of complaint about everything, whether it's just personal taste or what, i'll just dump them here:
i think "Satan" is lame lol. seems like he's kinda supposed, but idk, i feel like satan, being the king of demons, should be way more threatening/cool? or more abstract and less defined? he throws tantrums and is a brat, wears that...interesting illuminati outfit (credit to Kazue for designing whatever tf she wants tho) and i just can't feel intimidated at all by the big bad or suspend my disbelief. but whatever, that's okay, because im here for the character drama.
i hate shura's design soo so so so much, i hate the excessive fan service in general (shiemi included), but what am i gonna do.
while this shounen does treat its girls much much muuuuuch better than the standard, the action with shiemi and izumo is mostly disappointing. shiemi ascending to the shemihaza and taming amaimon was very underwhelming. it's cool that she got to flip him over martial arts style, but i wish we had a BIG fight because it was a big moment. and most of izumo's action/comitting physical violence is her using her familiars. she did stab that one guy in the eye with a pen tho. would've liked more of that.
more characters should straight up die or get horrible injuries. thinking to the kyoto arc, the impure king should've done some terrible rot damage to people.

Yeah! Next episode is gonna having lots of actions!

It’s time to take down the new series’s titular Fujouou / Impure King. Hopefully Ryuuji’s father is still okay, and the stolen Karura can be recovered to seal it. And perhaps Nii-chan can come out now that Shiemi has cleared her doubt and uneasiness of Rin’s situation.

group bonding activity: using your best friend who is a certified icebox as a cooling pack in the summer.
(in winter, they act as rin's personal space heater so it balances out)
the impure king arc happens in the summer. imagine their shock when they try to take advantage of Icepack Rin to find that he is now, in fact, a furnace and the very abrupt realization that the reason rin was so cold all the fucking time was bc he didn't have his flames.
(very useful when winter comes, though!)
shura still ends up being in charge of rin's training, since she specializes more with demon swords and also bc rin's sort of still kind of mad at his father and shiro wants to give him his space.
he might have performed really well with the impure king, but literally half of his control there was because he had the Right Motivation(tm) that he now currently does not possess. so he has to go right back to basic exercises lol
rin really, really wants to have his flames be useful instead of just destructive. he might have the support of his friends and loved ones, but he's still internalized a lot of negativity due to the environment he grew up in.
(he definitely doesn't have nightmares about losing control and harming his friends and family. don't even worry about it. he's running through the impure king arc on like 5 hours of sleep total snatched over the course of several days.)
(the nightmares only get a little better afterwards)
rin's not excited to go back to school, but he is excited to go back to school with his friends and yukio... only to be put in a separate class from them. lmao.
defeating the impure king was basically rin's personal exwire exam, lol
neuhaus doesn't go rouge until after rin arrives as a cram school student. he leaves kyoto with the love and support of his family only to run into the sharp reminder that the rest of the exorcist world truly would like nothing more than to see him dead.
ryuuji: you literally grew up among exorcists. why do we have to teach you all this stuff? you should have absorbed some of it!
rin, giving him a thumbs up: i wasn't paying attention! <3
torako very much is just the mom who has adopted her son's best friend. maternal figure in rin's life unlocked. she dotes on yukio too, but not as much as she does rin, mostly because he's just always around the inn.
rin, when they have their day off and are going to show izumo and shiemi around kyoto: let's go to kyoto tower!
(the kyoto group just groans)
yukio can speak standard japanese if he wants to. rin cannot do this.
rin: okay. so yukio and I are actually the sons of satan, and i was born possessing his flames cause i'm a demon. also kuro's a demon too and not a housecat. are there any other secrets i need to know?
shima: nope that's totally everything! :)
rin voice: when we see shima again, i'm going to punch the Illuminati out of him. :)
yukio: not how it works, nii-san, but you should do it anyways
konekomaru, holding his hands together in prayer: shima is so fucking dead
rin and shima are those two friends who just refer to each other exclusively by their last name. shima calls yukio 'yuki' though, bc he hates it.
shiemi: yuki-chan!
yukio: hm. that's okay actually.
shima: huh!?
yukio: thought exercise. you can only save one of us. who do you choose?
rin, with zero hesitation: konekomaru
yukio: huh!?
still rotating the aoex kyoto au. spinning it at high speeds, as one does. here are some more thoughts:
the first sympathetic face rin sees after he wakes up in confinement is torako who has basically just shoved her way in to deliver him a hot meal. rin is still trying to process everything he's learned in the past couple of hours, and eating is the last thing on his mind- but his stomach says otherwise.
rin doesn't even know if he wants to see anyone. sure, he didn't know anything, but he can't help but feel like he's been taking advantage of their kindness all these years. he's the son of satan! he doesn't know anyone in myoda who didn't lose someone on the blue night.
maybe this is fine, he thinks. he deserves to spend the rest of his life confined in this prison. he's a monster. it's only right.
when the inspector from the Vatican shows up, it really sinks into him what a big deal this is. this isn't just about Myoda. he's hated the world over. the inspector- shura- is apparently a disciple of his dad or something, and she tells him frankly that the Vatican will probably execute him.
he's so, so glad yukio and the others are gone right now.
(so imagine his shock when he hears they're back.)
he doesn't want to see them. not his friends, not yukio. he was still human when they left. he'd rather they remember him that way, rather than see him as a demon.
shura has a long talk with shiro before she even meets rin. he still hasn't been allowed to see him. he asks her to pass a message on to him. he's sorry for lying. he just wanted to let him live a human life for as long as possible.
the whole cram school class comes with yukio, suguro, shima and konekomaru, i think. definitely mephisto's influence. shiemi and izumo have definitely heard of yukio's twin brother before all this, but their first real impression is when they break him out of confinement to help with the impure king.
it's not the greatest first impression. rin's been in there for at least two or three days. he's still wearing his pajamas. hasn't bathed in a hot minute. but this is also the first time yukio and his friends have seen rin since they've returned to kyoto, and to say they're shocked is an understatement.
look. it's one thing to hear that rin is a demon. it's another thing to see it. but there's no way to overlook the ears, teeth and especially not the tail, not when they've known him all their lives.
rin fully expects that they'll hate them. that they'll be afraid of him. after all, isn't suguro's goal to defeat satan? well here! i'm his son! why don't you use me as a practice round or something?
suguro slugs him good for that. don't you ever fucking imply that again, rin. i'm not going to turn on a friend over something so small!
and hey! it works to snap rin out of his funk. which is great, because they kind of need his help!
(yukio gets to talk to shiro directly, and predictably gets very angry with him. if rin is the son of satan, a demon, what the hell does that make him? why didn't you say anything to me?
not to be left out, ryuuji also joins the 'getting really mad at your father' club.)
shortly after they arrive, the right eye of the impure king is stolen- and they learn that while they were distracted with (gestures at rin) the left eye was also stolen from the deep keep at true cross academy.
so now myoda is reeling from the shock that rin is the son of satan, and that mamushi has turned traitor and stolen the right eye. it just gets worse from there when they learn that the impure king has revived.
rin basically has to speedrun basic mastery of his flames, but protecting his home and all of his loved ones turns out to be really great motivation for that- especially for someone like rin. after all, even when he was freaking out and panicking, he didn't burn his father, right?
the events between tatsuma and todo remain unchanged, but shiro's the one who fights todo in the forest. he has no idea rin's on the mountain with them until its literally engulfed in blue flame.
(he can hear satan laughing in his head- until the blue flames pass over shiro harmlessly, and then suddenly he's very quiet.)
in the end, the Vatican decides to let rin live- on the condition that he becomes an exorcist. rin says goodbye to his home in kyoto, and heads to true cross academy with everyone.
if you think for one second he's not as annoying about tokyo tower as he is about kyoto tower in canon well. you'd be wrong. he's endured a world shattering revelation about his heritage, survived a life or death scenario, got a stay of execution, but what he really wants to do is go up tokyo tower.
yukio, suguro, konekomaru and shima all share a dorm room together. rin gets exiled to the old men's dorm by himself. it's okay. those four are around so often they might as well live there themselves.
rin: huh? I have to go to actual school too? that wasn't part of the deal!
love the idea of kuro just. lounging around the okumura household as a regular housecat, which is what rin thinks he is. so imagine rin's confusion when kuro shows up in the mountains and he has two tails and he can hear him talk now and then he turns GIANT.
suguro: ...wait. did you not know kuro was your father's familiar?
rin: apparently not!!!!

Ao no Exorcist: Kyoto Fujouou-hen
was good. Just that the pacing was so slow that it would’ve been better if I had just binged watch the whole series in one go. Because I just binge-watched the last three episodes and it didn’t feel really slow at all.
