Lost In You: Part One
Plot: When attending your friends costume party, you keep getting complimented on your couples costume. But you can't help but be confused, after all, you came to the party alone.
-Part Two-
Pairing: Park Seonghwa x Gn!Reader* *A/n: Obviously had to go with Star Wars costumes lmao, and even though the costumes are of a male and female character, I believe it doesn't matter the gender of the character, you can still dress up as them anways. So besides the reader dressing "as" Rey, everything else is Gender Neutral, so please dont let that effect how you enjoy the story. The readers costume is not mentioned in detail, only vaguely to give a rough idea :)
-Meet-Cute Series-
Warnings/Notes: Brief mentions of alcohol, drinking, and drunk people. Reader is referenced to have drank, but is not drunk. Reader is a bit of geek (helps them bond with Seonghwa).
Words: ~2.4k
Walking around the fairly crowded house, your eyes scanned over the mix of recognizable, impressive, unusual, and downright lazy costumes that people were wearing.
When you had been invited to your friend's birthday, being told it was a costume party, you were excited. You had been wanting an excuse to wear your costume for ages, having missed the opportunity the previous Halloween.
Waving to some people you knew, your eyes scanned the crowd for more of your friends.
Nearly bumping into someone, you said excuse me before you recognized them as an acquaintance.
"Oh hey!" you greeted cheerfully "Nice costume" you smiled down at their bright yellow kill-bill inspired jumpsuit.
"Thank you!" they grinned as they looked at yours "Oh! Love that you went with a couples costume!"
You furrowed your brow "Huh?"
Having not heard you they waved to someone nearby before smiling at you "Sorry, gotta go, I'll talk to you later yeah?"
"Oh yeah, bye" your voice was still laced with confusion as they walked away.
Couples costume? You hadn't matched with anyone, none of your friends were really into Star Wars, so they wouldn't have matched with you.
You shrugged it off, figuring they just mistook your costume for someone else as you walked through a small group of people, before spotting one of your best friends.
Grinning, you snuck up on her "Hey!"
Gasping, she turned around with a glare "Stop doing that"
You chuckled as you grabbed yourself a drink before looking around "A lot more people came than I thought would."
"Yeah, I guess adults really do love an excuse to dress up like kids again."
You smiled and nodded, agreeing with the thought. "I thought you were going to go with Harely Quinn?" You asked as you eyed her Batwoman costume.
"It was trash" she rolled her eyes "Tore as I was putting it on."
"That's what you get for ordering cheap"
She waved her hand dismissively "I know, I know"
"Where did you get this one?"
"Last minute favor from my cousin, luckily we're the same size, otherwise I would have shown up in that slinky red dress I have and called myself Marilyn Monroe"
"You have black hair, Betty Boop is more accurate"
Just as she opened her mouth to retaliate, a drunk girl stumbled up to the drinks table before the spotted your costume.
"Ooh, that's why he brushed me off" she pouted before her eyes rose to meet yours.
You rose your brow before you glanced at your friend who gave you a similar look of confusion.
The drunk girl took a step closer "You wore a couples costume, that's so cute, mm'jealous" she slurred with an even bigger pout before she spotted someone, squealed and ran towards them.
You let out an awkward chuckle as your friend looked at you "What the hell was that?"
"I don't know, but that's the second time someone said I was wearing a couples costume with someone."
She looked you up and down, "Well, since you're dressed as Ren-"
"Rey"
"...Rey, then someone is dressed as that tall evil black haired guy right?"
"Kylo Ren, or Ben Solo" you stopped yourself from explaining as you recalled your friends lack of interest in the franchise before you began looking around the crowd of people "I haven't seen anyone in an outfit like that so far."
She hummed before she glanced around as well "I wonder if they're cute."
You scoffed but couldn't help but wonder the same thing. Shrugging it off again, you turned around, just missing the cloaked figure walk past and into the next room.
After a while, you parted ways with your friend. You made your way through the crowd again, having begun to grow tired of being bumped into, and having to strain your ears to hear anything anyone tried to say to you.
Your friend had clearly over-invited guests or overestimated how many people would show up, as the room grew hot and almost claustrophobic.
Spotting the doors leading to the backyard, which seemed surprisingly empty, you slid through a group of dancing people, desperately wanting to escape.
Feeling your costume catch on something, you had to tug yourself away, before accidentally running into someone just as you reached the doors.
"Oh sorry!" your voice almost mimicked the strangers, as you both apologized as your eyes met.
You smiled, "Excuse me" you added on.
"It's okay" he smiled sweetly, his voice soft.
Your eyes drifted down to catch his costume, and you felt yourself freeze as you noted the lightsaber hooked on his belt. His eyes grazed over you as well as he had the same exact reaction.
Your eyes quickly met again as your voices called out at the same time "You!"
You rose you brow in surprise and he chuckled "I've been hearing all night about someone I wore matching costumes with."
You smiled and let out a soft laugh "So have I!"
His smile widened a bit, and you realized just how attractive he was. He was intimidatingly attractive, actually, you told yourself as you suddenly felt a bit shy.
You cleared your throat a bit "Nice costume, it looks like really good quality"
He grinned down at his costume before he looked at you "Thank you. Your's too!"
You smiled, starting to feel a bit self-concious as his eyes seemed to have looked you over slowly.
Suddenly, he spoke up, his voice full of excitement "You're lightsaber! I have the same one at home!"
"You do?" you asked intrigued as he nodded with excitement "I collect a lot of Star Wars stuff" he confessed, and you saw a tinge of embarrassment cross his features.
'Cute' you thought as you grinned, "I collect a lot of stuff too! From Star Wars and other movies"
His face seemed to brighten a bit, as he wondered what else you might have in common.
As a loud song came on, you winced a bit as you looked towards the now cheering group of drunk people.
Seonghwa cringed as well, before he looked over at you and leaned closer. You turned and met his gaze, alarmed by his sudden closeness.
"Were you heading outside?"
You nodded, unable to find your voice as your eyes remained locked with his.
"Me too." Hearing a drunken scream you saw him wince as he motioned his head towards the door "Shall we?"
You let out a soft chuckle and nodded. You watched him opened the doors, stepping aside so you could go out. You muttered a thanks as you made your exit, your heart hammering in your chest.
The cool night air washed over you and seemed to sober any ounce of drunkenness you might have held before.
There were only a few people scattered around the back yard. A few in the pool, and some playing a nearby fooseball game.
You looked back at the house and shook your head softly, "I'd hate to have to clean up after this."
The man laughed and agreed, as he stopped beside you. Looking back over at him, your heart jumped a bit as he was already looking at you.
He seemed to realize this too before he adjusted himself "I'm Seonghwa by the way."
You smiled at him "I'm Y/n."
His smile widened as you introduced yourself. Seonghwa's heart was beating fast, as his face felt hot, he hadn't drank much at all, so he knew it must just be you affecting him this way.
His eyes glanced over at a nearby couch surrounding a firepit. Feeling a bit brave, and far too intrigued by you to just walk away, he met your eyes again.
"Want to go sit?"
You looked back at where his eyes lingered and you smiled before nodding softly. Following him over to the couch you took in a deep breath, calming yourself.
It hadn't taken long for you and Seonghwa to fall into deep conversation. You had a lot in common and found subject after subject to rant about to each other. From movies, to music, to friends and dreams, you wouldn't be surprised if you lost your voice the next morning with how much you seemed to be talking
So lost in each other's conversation, you hadn't noticed when the music died down, or how the back yard had emptied, leaving you two alone. Inside the house, nearly 70% of the people had gone home.
Nor had you noticed how much closer to two of you had become, literally.
When you sat down, you had sat on the seperate chair beside the couch, feeling too shy to sit beside each other. But now, you were both leaning forward, sitting beside each other on the couch now, faces merely a foot apart as you raved about a recent move you had both seen.
Seonghwa's arm was draped across the back of the couch, behind your shoulder, something he hadn't even noticed because it felt so natural already. When his knees brushed yours as you sat facing each other, you barely noticed.
"Y/n!"
Your voice cut out mid-sentence as you heard a familiar voice call out. Looking over, you see her walking across the yard, red solo cup in hand.
Her eyes moved to Seonghwa and you saw the look on her face that screamed 'Holy shit, he's gorgeous.'
Seonghwa however, did not see this, as his eyes became glued to you again, after only having glanced towards your friend when she first came out.
"Oh, hey!" you greeted.
She leaned on the back of the couch before Seonghwa finally looked over at her. They introduced themselves to each other before your friend looked him up and down.
"Oooh, you're the one that people kept thinking matched with Y/n."
Seonghwa chuckled and nodded his head "Yes, that's me."
She met your eyes, and a knowing look passed over her face, that you promptly ignored.
"I was surprised to see you out here though, you never stay at parties this long."
"What do you mean, what time is it?"
She rose her brow "One in the morning"
Your eyes widened as you looked over at Seonghwa, who had a similar look on his face. He took out his phone and you saw the time flash across his screen. 1:14am.
"I got here at nine" you said out loud to no one in particular.
She nodded, "And you've been out here...chatting" she glanced at Seonghwa "for about three hours."
You and Seonghwa locked eyes and he smiled somewhat shyly as he looked down at his lap.
"Oops." You chuckled as you looked back at your friend who wiggled her eyebrows.
"You said you were only staying until eleven, since you have work tomorrow"
"Oh God, I have work tomorrow" you put your hand on your face as fatigue washed over you, surely only because you now knew what time it was.
Seonghwa smiled as he watched you, thinking of how cute you were. Though, he also had to work tomorrow, and showing up to early morning dance practice after a late night was not his ideal.
You met his eyes, "I should go."
Seonghwa nodded his head "I should too, I also have work tomorrow." he chuckled.
You smiled at him as mutual shyness seemed to wash over both of you. Your friend looked between the two of you and smiled before standing up straight.
She tapped your shoulder, "Come find me after you say goodbye we can get a ride together."
You nodded at her as you looked back at Seonghwa. Both of you began to rise as you let out a soft groan.
"How did I not realize it had gotten so late?" you chuckled softly.
Seonghwa smiled, "We were busy."
He hadn't felt as though time had passed at all when he was with you. He got so lost in talking with you, so lost in you, that he didn't realize there was anything going on around him at all.
The way he was staring fondly as you made your breath hitch. You smiled at him as you felt your ears burn a little hotter.
"Yeah. It's been a while since I've met someone I could talk to about all of that stuff."
He grinned, "Me too."
Seonghwa, realizing you were about to say goodbye, felt panic rise in his chest. He didn't want to say goodbye, at least not forever.
"Uh- can I- do you think I could get your number?"
Your heart leapt as he asked, and you resisted the urge to respond with as much excitement as you felt.
You nodded, "Yeah"
"Great. And maybe...we could go see that movie next week?" he asked, referencing the movie you shared excitement about earlier.
You nodded a bit more fervently this time, "That would be fun"
He nodded in agreement as he pulled out his phone. When you exchanged numbers you began heading inside, noticing immediately how the party had ceased since you were last inside.
Music was no longer playing. Empty cups and plates were scattered around, two people were passed out on the couch as the disco ball spun slowly on the ceiling.
You winced, "Yikes"
Seonghwa laughed before you looked back over at him "I should go find my friend"
He nodded, "I'll text you tomorrow?"
You nodded with a bright smile and Seonghwa almost felt like swooning at the sight. As he began to walk away, he gave you another glance as he waved.
You waved goodbye before you spotted you friend watching you with a grin from across the room.
When Seonghwa disappeared out the front door, you made your way to your friend who rose her hand.
"If you tell me you didn't get his number, I swear to God-"
"I got his number" you cut her off.
"Yes!" She cheered dramatically "I cannot believe how gorgeous he is."
"Right!?" You said with a restrained excitement.
"Are you going to see him again?"
You nodded, "He asked me to see a movie next week."
She clapped her hands as she led you to the door "You have to tell me all about him on the ride."
You nodded as you thought back on your night, and Seonghwa. You had never clicked with someone so fast before, it almost felt too good to be true. Almost.

I Am Grey - Prologue
A/N: Please give this a chance! This is my first Star Wars fic, but honestly not my first fan-fiction or story in general. I hope you enjoy this intro into this young Skywalker's world. Please give me feedback. This is just a beginning. I'm bad at summaries, I apologize. Also, requests are open for almost anything you want including Kylo and Star Wars. So you can do that too. PROLOGUE PART TWO
KYLO REN X COUSIN!OC
Summmery: J. Skywalker was kidnapped by the First Order after the destruction of her father's Jedi temple at age 10. She was perceived to already by powerful by Snoke. She just needed promting to the dark side, which proves to be harder than anticipated. As the girl grows older, it becomes apparent that she's not of light or dark.
Pages - 4.6
Words - 1612
Warnings - Burning Buildings, Death, Crying
____________
Run.
That's all that repeated in the young girl's head. Run. Run. Run. All she could feel were the fires nipping and licking at the walls and growing near herself. All she could hear were the terror filled screams that echoed the temple walls and the sizzling of a lightsaber. All she could smell was burnt flesh and smoke. And all she knew was pain and horror. Her senses were overtaken with horrible things that she was certain would haunt her forever.
All of this only made her more eager to escape the collapsing building. She sprinted like a bolt of lightning to the main entrance, hoping it wouldn't be guarded by the people who had done this. Out. She had to get out.
A scream slipped past her lips as part of the ceiling came crashing down in front of her, narrowly missing her form, the fires burning her thin arm at the proximity. She whimpered as tears filled her vision, but she couldn't let the pain stop her. She spun on her heel and began to dash towards the next nearest exit that she knew of. It was awhile away, but it was her only shot.
She hadn't noticed that the screams had stopped, or that the fires had continued their dance on the temple more harshly than before.
Her legs began to ache, wanting her to stop and take a break, but she couldn't take a break. She couldn't die. Run. Keep running. She reminded herself, dodging a few small pieces of the ceiling and jumping over a large piece of fallen wood.
Her eyes darted around, observing her surroundings as she ran, until she saw something that halted her for a second. One of her best friends lie, eyes wide open in terror, staring at the ceiling. It didn't take her long to realize why he wasn't moving. She cried his name, going to run up to him until another piece of the ceiling landed in her way. She still needed to run.
"I'm sorry." she whispered to herself, sobs racking her body as she turned and continued her race to the exit. She needed out of this dreaded, destroyed place.
Along with the intense feeling of wanting out, she felt the need to scream for her father. She hadn't been able to find him. Where had he gone? Did he leave her? Did he die like her friend had?
Questions circled her mind, but ended quickly upon the site of the corner that would lead immediately to the exit.
She sharply turned the corner, only to be greeted with the exact opposite of the freedom she hoped for, having to skid to a stop to avoid running into them.
In front of her stood 6 tall figures clad in dark fabric. One, whom stood at the front, was holding a blazing lightsaber, which she had almost ran into. Something about him seemed familiar, but she was too panicked to care. This was dangerous, these were the men that caused this. She was sure of it.
Soon enough she realized she had frozen too long, the heat and smoke was starting to overpower the adrenaline. She snapped back to reality when the one in front took a threatening step forward. She darted as fast as she could to the side, turning down a not yet destroyed hallway. She turned her head to glance behind her, only to trip and tumble to the ground.
Coughs racked her body and tears slipped down her face at the impact. She couldn't get back up. It was too much. The smoke. The heat. The pain. She was only 10. Her right arm sent shocks of pain everywhere, legs and lungs aching. Then she remembered her father. What if he was still alive? She couldn't give up on him.
She moved her arm to push herself up, only to feel a force push down on her, slamming her back to the ground. Loud, elaborate footsteps closed in on her. The men in black had found her.
Voices spoke through modifiers, but the girl could only catch a few of the words spoken as black dots slowly clouded her vision.
"Is this the girl?"
"Yes." This man seemed to hesitate only slightly, "It's her."
"Grab her, make sure she sees a medic. Supreme Leader will want her well."
The pressure lifted all at once and she released a breath she hadn't known was being held. Her vision came in and out of focus, the black spots growing and appearing with the beat of her heart. Catching a glimpse of black fabric once again before the ground moved away from her at an alarming rate.
No. She was being lifted by leather hands. Her bright, pale blue eyes blinked slowly at the man who held her, only seeing a black and silver mask. It took her a second before the full panic settled in and she weakly tried to push and wiggle away and out of the man's grip.
It was a useless effort, the man not showing any signs that he noticed the girl in his arms. She looked around, her vision blurred and spotted. She was being carried out, out of the collapsing building that was once practically a home. No sign of her father anywhere. Where was he? At this, she pushed harder, hitting the man's chest and helmet (which only bruised her frail hand), and flailing her feet, "Let me go!" she needed to find him.
The man snarled under the mask, muttering something she didn't hear. Then, the helmet turned to her, his steps still proceeding forward. The eyes behind the mask were likely glaring daggers at the young girl, she guessed from the intensity of the supposed stare. He held her tighter, almost threateningly, "Stop struggling, it's pointless." That voice, even with the modifier it sounded familiar to the young girl. She stilled, blue eyes wide with fear and a hint of curiosity. "W-who are you? You sound familiar...." she muttered, her voice clearly laced with exhaustion and her previous terror.
They were nearing a ship. The man turned back to look forward, not saying another word to the girl as more tears streamed down her small, red cheeks. His grip loosened, but the girl didn't fight this time. Instead, she allowed her head to thump against his chest in exhaustion. She didn't have the energy to fight anymore, she just wanted sleep. Despite that, she willed her eyes open, resisting the urge to fall into the blissful feeling of sleep.
The rest of the walk was silent, her soft gaze resting on her knees, not knowing what to do but think. She could use the force, sure, but this man seemed to be far more experienced then her. Actually, most people in the temple were. A few were in their early twenties, a few in their late teens. A couple were only a few years or so older than herself. She was only 10. She wasn't fully trained yet, even with her father being a Jedi. She barely knew how to hold up a table without dropping it a second later.
The man's boots clunked against the ramp to the ship, alerting the girl away from her thoughts. She lifted her head, looking behind the man. Crying all over again at the sight of the temple almost fully destroyed and engulfed in flames. She didn't know where her father was, or if he was alive.
A part of her knew he was alive, a part she knew her father would call the force. The thing that he had been teaching people in that very temple. A place she had practically been her whole life.
The scene was soon gone, the ramp of the ship closing up and sealing the little girl's fate. She was stuck. She looked up at the man, her blinks slow and tired. He looked back at her, his expression hidden by the mask. It wasn't an intense gaze this time, it was something different, it calmed her even though she couldn't see his face.
Slowly and carefully, the girl was sat down onto a long metal bench that was connected to the ship's interior wall. Though sleep sounded amazing, the girl forced her eyes open.
The man kneeled down to her height, tilting his head at her slightly, as if waiting for her to either speak or pass out. She chose the former. "You never answered my question." her voice squeaked.
The man's mask tilted down to the ground, the modifier concealing a sigh. After what seemed like a few silent seconds, his head raised and the girl's defeated eyes locked with where the eyes were supposed to be on the mask. With his intentions clear, he came just a bit closer to her, reaching his hand out.
Her breathing quickened more, but didn't move away, just staring and waiting.
With his hand floating next to the girl's head at the ready, he finally spoke,
"Go to sleep, J."
Within barely a second, it was obvious why he had his hand outstretched to her. Her eyelids closed and her body slumped to the side, the man quickly catching her and laying her down more gently on the metal. The girl was unconscious.
Though in the split second before sleep was forced upon her, a thought had flashed through her mind.
Ben.

Being Luke Skywalker’s Daughter would include...
+ I’d like to think that you are a little older than Ben, but not by so much so maybe just like year or two or even a couple of months
+ your mom left you and Luke when you were little (i actually don’t know what happened to Luke’s S/O, i’m making something up)
+ Since your mom left, Luke enlisted Han and Leia’s help to raise you
+ It was all good
+ When Ben was born, you were so excited and loved having him around
+ And when you guys were a bit older, Ben looked up to you
+ You both are basically best friends
+ Carrying on
+ Besides Leia, Han and Ben, you and your dad where on your own
+ You two were close
+ Having light saber fights with stick you find on the ground
+ Having girl talks with Aunt Leia
+ So you and Ben go training with Luke at the same time
+ But your dad had still been teaching you about the ways of the force and the Jedi since you were a little kid, so you were more advanced
+ When you and Ben go build your light sabers, his is the classic blue and yours is a stunning purple
+ Training and learning the ways of the Jedi would be the most fun
+ I think that Luke would be a strict teacher but like would have a soft spot/ make an exception for you and Ben, but still teach you well
+ Since your older than Ben, you complete your training earlier, gaining the rank of Jedi Knight
+ (Luke was emotional)
+ You help your dad train the students
+ And you also help Ben train extra after a day of lessons
+ Due to this, you were the first one to see Ben become more and more aggressive
+ You confront him about it, but he tells you its nothing
+ You also tell your dad about it
+ He grows increasingly worried too
+ Your discussing this same thing with your dad the day Ben sets fire to the Jedi Temple
+ He tells you to grab as much stuff of yours and his as you can and run, run and run until you can’t see the the temple anymore
+ You give him a hug and take off
+ You eventually make your way back to Han and Leia’s place and tell them what happened
+ Leia somehow already felt it, but Han is distraught
+ You move in with them
+ You comforted Leia when he left, and helped her start The Resistance
+ You miss your father, but keep strong because it what he would’ve wanted
+ You became her second in command
+ You also led your own Squadron, Green Squadron
+ You accompany Poe, who was your best friend at this point, on the mission to find the map that led to your dad, on Jakku
+ Unluckily, both you and Poe get captured by the First Order
+ While your both being tortured for information
+ You feel an awkward sense of familiarity around Kylo Ren
+ When he took his mask off, you gasped
+ It was Ben
+ He talks to you softer than he does to Poe, though still with a rather harsh tone, still sort of looking up to you after all these years
+ Poe and you are rescued by an FN-2187, a storm trooper who wants to refuse the First Order’s demands and help you two escape
+ You all cram yourself into a TIE fighter, with FN and Poe flying the thing while you controlled the main guns
+ “What’s your name, trooper?” you asked him
+ “FN-2187″ he answered “The only name they ever gave me” he said with a slight smile, while still flying the ship precisely
+ “Well we don’t like that.” said Poe. “How about Finn?”
+ “I like that!” Finn said “What about you guys?”
+ “I’m Y/N, this is Poe” you said
+ “Nice to meet you Finn!” Poe said
+ “Nice to meet you too, guys!”
+ Unfortunately, the TIE crashes on Jakku
+ You and Poe wake up at the same time, but there is no sight of Finn for miles
+ You both come to the conclusion that he’s gone
+ And thankful for him to help you guys escape
+ You were able to get a ship and return to The Resistance
+ Leia was glad to have you guys back, her best pilots
+ When Maz calls for help on Takodana, you and Poe are the first ones to volunteer your squadrons
+ And you go, where is fortunately where you find Finn again, and reunite with Finn, in a hug
+ Finn gives vital information to the Resistance, and they plan out the way to rescue Rey and destroy The Finalizer
+ When the mission is done, Rey approaches you with the news of her going to find your dad
+ You were training in the forest with your light saber
+ When you hear her voice “Y/N? Y/N Skywalker?”
+ You freeze up and turn around to face her
+ You turn of the sharp purple blade and answer “Yes? You must be Rey” you finished, shaking her hand
+ “I wanted to ask you to come with me to find your father. You know the mission?”
+ “Of course I know” she backs away
+ you sigh “But I’ll go. I need to see him again”
+ You say your goodbyes to Poe and Finn, although he’s in a coma
+ You give one last goodbye to your Aunt Leia
+ “Bring him home, Y/N. He is the only one who may be able to save Ben.”
+ “ I will Aunt Leia. I promise I’ll try.”
+ She gives you a kiss on your forehead
+ And you leave with Rey, to find your dad

“Commander y/n,” a voice calls out to me.
“Yes?”
“Your presence on the Korr mission has been authorized by the Supreme Leader,” General Hux commands.
“Oh okay,” I nod, accepting the instruction.
“We take off in 48 hours. The mission will be three days long. Prepare however you must.”
“Yes, sir. May I ask who else will be on this mission?”
“The mission has been restricted to you, me, General Ameen from the Star Brigade, and the Supreme Leader, of course,” Hux discloses. The Supreme Leader. Of course. I gulp.
“If there are no further questions, I will leave you with your mission packet. We will meet at the Hanger in Zone F.”
“Yes sir. I will make sure to become familiar with its contents.”
“I’ll see you in 48 hours, Commander,” Hux nods. I return the nod and walk back to my station.
It’s the day I’ve been waiting for since that bizarre meeting almost a month ago. I’ll have to brief my unit and prepare them for my absence. I’ll also need to study my mission materials. I’ll take a look at those during my lunch hour and whatever I don’t get to I’ll go over tonight. Shoot I also need to pack a bag too. And I should probably send Balia and Karmir a message letting them know I’ll be on mission for the next few days.
Kylo and I have been talking about this mission for a while. Sometimes we talk about it in his office during brief one-on ones to discuss strategy and other times we talk in his library about what we think might happen when we get to Korr.
“I haven’t been to Korr in years.”
“Do you miss it?”
“Sort of. I guess in a way it was like my second home, but I've heard it’s changed a lot in the past few years and with the rebel base there now, I don’t really know what to expect.”
“Does your cousin still live there?”
“No, she and my aunt and uncle moved away a couple years ago. Does your friend from Jedi training live there?”
“I wouldn’t know. We fell out of touch shortly after Jedi training,” he says solemnly. I reach for his hand and he sighs.
“Do you miss him?”
“Not anymore.”
“Why do you say that?”
“We were very good friends at one point. He was perhaps the closest confidant I ever had, until I joined the Dark Side that is. I wanted him to join me, but he refused. He said I was no longer the man he once thought I was. He ended up joining the Rebel Forces and I haven’t heard from him since.”
Conversations like that were shared between Kylo and I. For the past month, I’ve snuck out practically every other night to see him. About a week and a half in, there was one night I almost got caught. When leaving my quarters, a pair of stormtroopers happened to be patrolling the area and asked my whereabouts. I panicked at first, then lied and said that I was going to retrieve something I had left in my office by accident. They bought the lie, but they still didn’t let me leave. They said that leaving your quarters was prohibited for the night in my hall due to maintenance of some sort. After that night, I talked to Kylo and his solution was to have his assigned stormtrooper guards escort me from my quarters to our meeting locations.
“Kylo, it’s not fair. At any given time, no one questions where you’re going or why. I don’t have that luxury. You’re putting me in a position to get in trouble.”
“But if you’re escorted by the guards then our problems are solved: no one will question your whereabouts.”
“I’m not a child. I don’t want to have to be escorted anywhere. Plus, I already feel bad making them look after us when they could be doing something far more important.”
“I know, but let’s look at the alternative. What does it look like for the Supreme Leader to be knocking on the door of a commander’s quarters after hours?” I freeze at the thought. I’ve never let a man in my quarters before. Friends sure, but there’s usually other places to spend time, I never really had to worry about that before.
“For the time being, there are only a few places on the ship where we can be together and only a few ways we can make that happen. This is our only option.”
After that night, I received a personal escort to see him in his library or some secret location on the ship that I have no idea how he knows about. Sometimes we talk and eat. Other times we read or play card games I’ve taught him. There’s only so much to do when you’re dating the most famous man in the Empire in secret, but it’s enough for now. To my surprise, he’s quite a lot of fun to be around and we have a lot more in common than I would have imagined.
Sometimes I wake up to a handwritten letter from Kylo delivered to my quarters. It’s usually just an invitation to our meeting place that night, but on days we don’t meet up, his letters say things like ‘I look forward to our next union’ or whatever random thought he wishes to share with me. It’s safe to say I’ve kept all of them in a collection stashed at the back of my closet. It makes me feel like a teenager again! Sometimes I reread his notes and run my finger along the chicken scrawl of his handwriting. No one ever said the Supreme Leader was perfect, but it does amuse me. My own handwriting isn’t much neater, but it just feels so Kylo to see his written thoughts like that.
Tomorrow will be the first mission that I go on with the Supreme Leader. This is also the first trip I go on with Kylo. I prefer to only think of the former because it’s much easier that way. Plus, it feels weird and kind of early to think about taking a trip with Kylo after only a few weeks of getting to know each other. For now, I need to focus on getting things in order and having a good night's rest. Oh stars, please let this be a good mission.
---
I groggily make my way over to Hux, Kylo, and a man whom I’m assuming is General Ameen huddled next to two cruisers. Take-off time is way too early.
“Ah, Commander y/n, now that you’re here and we’re all accounted for, we can prepare for take-off. I was just giving General Ameen and the Supreme Leader the coordinates I received from the Amian leaders on where our designated landing spots are located. Each cruiser seats two and since General Ameen and Supreme Leader are the only ones pilot trained, we’ll each be flying with them. I will fly with General Ameen and you will fly with the Supreme Leader,” Hux instructs. Um… WHAT? I want to protest and look at Kylo and ask why I got paired with him, but if I react like that they’ll definitely know something’s up. I would never question a direct order otherwise.
“Yes sir,” I respond. Up until now, I thought we were doing a good enough job at keeping this a secret. I thought we were acting normally enough at work to not make anyone suspect us. Fortunately it’s not like I work one on one with him all the time so there’s less of an opportunity for most people to see us and suspect something. But this mission is bringing us closer together and that could be enough to make someone like Hux suspicious.
“Commander y/n,” Kylo commands, taking me out of my worried trance. I see Hux and Ameen heading toward their cruiser and Kylo walking toward ours. I jog to catch up while deciding just how I’m going to ambush Kylo about this seating arrangement. We enter the ship and the panel closes shut. We take our seats, him in the pilot and me in the passenger.
“I didn’t know you received pilot training,” I wonder aloud.
“Man of many talents, remember?” he says with a smirk and I nod tensely, still furious at the situation and by extension, him.
Kylo puts on his headset and turns on the microphone. He barks commands to Ameen on the other side. They both press random buttons across the control panel and then look at one another. Ameen salutes and flies off. Kylo does the same and soon we’re reaching light speed. I stare out the window and admire the blurring starlight.
Kylo conveys several more commands and directions and I look over to him. His fluffy black hair sticks out of his head set in the cutest way. His hands gracefully and methodically scatter about the control panel. After our first dinner together, I made it a point to jokingly gift him a bottle of hand lotion and he’s been using it ever since. “It actually feels so much better when I wear my gloves now,” he commented, like it was the biggest discovery ever. The thought makes me smile.
Seeing how animated he gets while flying is something new. It’s kind of adorable, like watching a little boy play flying an imaginary airplane. He makes a joke to Ameen and he laughs from whatever Ameen had said in response. Seeing him so in control and in his element makes something in my heart stir. It’s a side of him I realize has always been there, but now, I am one of the select few who is privileged enough to see it.
“Haha, okay. Tell Hux not to eat all the snacks… Yes, okay… I’ll sign off for now… Yes… Yes, Commander y/n and I will see you two on Planet Korr… Okay, Supreme Leader signing off,” Kylo exclaims into the microphone. Then he turns it off and hangs up his headset.
“The mic is off right?”
“Yes my worried darling, no one can hear us right now.”
“Okay.”
“Sorry about all that. Ameen is a bit of a joker, but he’s funny enough that I don’t even mind.”
“I’ve never met him before embarking on this mission.”
“Oh yes, the brigade he leads works in a different region of the ship.”
“Oh okay,” I respond. I’m not really up for the chit chat.
“Yeah, I think you’ll like him. He’s a very smart and cunning leader.”
“Mhm.” I turn to look out the window and distract my thoughts with the stars.
“Hey, is something wrong, y/n?”
“Kylo, why did we get paired up to ride in the cruiser together?”
“Oh that! That’s actually a funny story.”
“It’s not funny to me, Kylo. If people find out–,”
“Y/n, please, I haven’t even told you what happened yet. Just hear me out okay?”
I glare upward at him with furrowed eyebrows, eyelashes pressed against my upper eyelids. “Okay.”
“Well, believe it or not, I'm not the only one who's taken notice of you. General Hux thinks you're a very fine up-and-coming young leader," he says the last part in a voice mimicking the stern but calm general. I can't help but laugh at how accurate he sounds.
“He told me that he sees a lot of potential in you and that you could benefit from some mentorship. I agreed with him and he suggested I take you under my wing. I rejected his idea, for obvious reasons, but offered that maybe we first bring you into meetings where you could meet other leaders or work on assignments with more responsibility, like this one. He still insisted we spend some one-on-one time, I guess to impart any wisdom a supreme leader might have. But I promise this wasn't my doing.”
Wow, I can’t believe it. Way to go Hux for being my wingman, cheerleader, and coach. I'll have to thank him for that when I get a chance.
“Y/n”
“I had no idea. I can't believe he said that ,” I say, reflecting on the image of Hux and Kylo talking about me behind closed doors.
“Wait, did he really say that or are you just making that up because you actually pleaded to him oh please, please let me sit next to the beautiful wonderful y/n on this mission,” I say mocking him in a high pitched voice.
“First of all, I do not sound like that,” he scolds teasingly and I chuckle.
“I know, Kylo. I know I just… Things are really good right now and I’m afraid they won’t last long.”
“Nothing good can last forever,” Kylo dictates and it makes me shrink in my seat. I can feel my bottom lip quiver and I start blinking really fast. He must take notice of my reaction because then he adds, “Sorry. That was something I heard a lot growing up, it’s kind of instilled in me... I find it to be true, but still, I want this to last as long as possible too.”
I think about his words and can’t imagine how much it must’ve taken for him to admit that. We sit in silence as I reflect on what just transpired. Once I get comfortable again, I start a conversation.
“So how long have you been a pilot?”
“Longer than you can imagine, little star. I always wanted to learn how to fly when I was a boy. The first chance I had to attend pilot training, I seized it. It’s served me pretty well since.”
“Do you think we’ll be able to do anything fun on this mission?”
“Y/n it’s a mission. What do you think?”
“Yeah but we aren’t going to be on duty the whole entire time. We’ll have some personal time right?”
“Is this your first mission?” he quickly looks over at me before returning his gaze to the path ahead of him.
“Kylo, you don’t get to be a commander without going on a few missions!’
“I don’t know y/n, I guess it just depends on how things go. Perhaps if they go smoothly, we might have some time to spare for fun,” he shrugs.
“Hm.. okay.”
“Why do you ask?”
“Um… I was just thinking about…,” I start, trying to find a subtle way to introduce my idea to him.
“Thinking about what?”
“Well… maybe if we had some time to spare… we could do something fun.”
He gives me a side eye paired with a growing smirk.
“Okay,” he says with amusement. “What kind of something fun were you thinking about?”
Oh Kylo, I have quite a few things in mind, but there’s one in particular I want. I think back to a night we shared in the hidden chamber in his library with the windows to the stars and nebulae. It was almost a week ago when we shared our first kiss in that very room. We had shared embraces, light touches of the hands, and things like that before, but it was all building up to that one hypnotic evening.
I was going on about something unimportant, so unimportant that I don’t even remember what it was anymore. And then, he interrupted me by grabbing my face and pulling me into an absolutely face-melting kiss. “You talk too much,” he had whispered in between soft kisses. I’d brought my hands up to his neck while his snaked around my waist, pulling me toward him. The heat from his body seeped into my own. The scent of soap, musk, and possibly a hint of cologne on his body was enough to make me feel delirious and thrilled by the surprising act. When his tongue slipped its way into my mouth, it was game over. I mimicked his movement and our mouths were in a perfectly choreographed routine. Our lips danced and tongues explored the other's mouth. We stood there devouring each other. I raised my fingers to card through his coarse hair. With a light tug to the locks, a groan involuntarily escaped from his lips and traveled its way into my own mouth. Oh. Oh. Wow. Heat spread throughout my entire body and a wave of thrill overcame me, making me smile into the kiss. Kylo’s ungloved hands pressed into the soft and clothed flesh of my waist. We stood like that for several moments. It felt like a lifetime and at the same time, not long enough.
“Kylo,” I whispered between kisses.
“Hmph,” he responded.
“Kylo,” I repeated, slightly pulling apart from the kiss. He whimpered. We remained holding each other, with our foreheads touching. I looked at him, waiting for him to open his eyes.
“Maybe we should… stop… for now,” I whispered, holding his face in my hands. I rubbed my thumb in small circles along his left cheek. I made sure to place gentle touches along the part of his scar I could reach. He nodded ever so slightly and leaned into my left hand. I drew my right thumb over his lips and he pressed a light kiss to it. His eyes fluttered open slowly.
“That was… otherworldly, y/n” he says in a low sexy growl I don’t think I’ve ever heard him use before. I wonder where he learned to kiss like that? Hypothetically speaking, because I never want to know the answer to that. But man, did he kiss me like his life depended on it.
“I could say the same. All this time, I never would have guessed the Supreme Leader was such a good kisser,” I quipped.
“Next time you question my authority I’ll have to attack you with…,” he roars then exclaims, “kisses!” He leaves several pecks all across my face and a long languid kiss on my lips.
“The kinds of things we do in your library... in the hidden chamber,” I say nonchalantly. He raises an eyebrow.
“Oh, those things,” he nods with curiosity. “To that, I say… keep it in your robes y/n this is a work event,” he yells and sends me into a fit of giggles.
“Wow, okay is that what we’re doing? Fine, if we’re going to wear our professional hats right now, why don’t you impart some of this alleged Supreme Leadery wisdom on me,” I tease.
“Oh you want wisdom, well, tip number one, don’t date someone you met at work, it never ends well.” I swat at his arm.
“Kylo!”
“Kidding, kidding. Um, let me see… There’s a… well… no.”
“This is it? This is the wisdom General Hux was raving about?”
“No, no. I… C’mon y/n, throw me a bone. What do you want to know?”
“I don’t know! I guess is there anything you would tell your younger self if you could?”
“Hm… Well, there is something. People told me this all the time, but i didn’t listen. It’s true what they say, you know. It does get lonely at the top... Keep those friends of yours close. You’re going to need them where you’re going,” he says and it strikes me odd. He can be so callous in public yet so endearing in private. His statement also makes me wonder just how much he’s had to go through all alone.
“I’ve known Balia and Karmir for ages, they’re my best friends in the whole galaxy. I can’t wait for you to meet them someday,” I comment.
“If they are people you keep close to your heart, then I wouldn’t mind being acquainted with them.”
“They can’t wait to meet you too. When I told them how good of a kisser you are, they were so shocked.”
“You told them WHAT?” Kylo angrily shouts.
“Kylo, I’m just kidding,” I plead while stifling a laugh. He exhales in frustration.
“I only told them we kissed, not that you were any good at it,” I tease again.
“Y/n! Why would you do such a thing?”
“Kylo, I’m sorry. I’m kidding, for real this time,” I assure and place a hand on his thigh close to his knee and squeeze. “I swear I didn’t tell them anything about the kiss. In fact. I actually haven’t told them much of what’s happened between us. I promised myself that I wouldn’t say much beyond if things are going well or not. The less they know the better, plus it’s still early enough that I want to keep things to myself for a bit longer.”
He sighs in relief.
“I see. But if you keep joking like that, you’re going give me a heart attack before we even land on this planet,” he gruffly responds.
“I know. It’s so funny to see you get all riled up though,” I smirk and he glares at me before turning his gaze back to the path.
“This is going to be a long mission, isn’t it?” I ask. He looks over at me and I give him my softest eyes and pout my lips a bit. I’m sorry, I try to convey with my face.
“Yes,” my expression brings a half grin to his face,”but there is no one else I’d rather have by my side,” he says, holding back a smile.

Commander
Kylo Ren x Reader
Part 2 of 4 [Cinderella - Kylo Ren] in my Wishful Thinking series- This is a completely ridiculous self-indulgent, smut filled catastrophe. All stories in this fairytale AU are interlocking and part of the same continuous plot, but can be read as stand alones. Basically, reader is the main character of all these fairytale-esque situations that she finds herself in and gets to bang all the dangerous, hot men.
Part 3 of 4 [Sleeping Beauty - The Witcher/Geralt of Rivia] - Morning
Part 4 of 4 [Beauty and the Beast - The Winter Soldier/Bucky Barnes] Castle
Part 1 of 4 [Little Red Riding Hood - Dean Winchester] Red
Warnings: Shameless Smut & dirty talk/cursing. 18+ only!
Word Count: 1.7K
Summary: Cinderella AU. After your encounter in the woods, you find out you’ve been invited to a party being thrown by the Commander of Starkiller Base.
After spending a few moments adjusting your dress and smirking to yourself about your road-side run-in, you were back on the road to your grandma’s house.
Up ahead, parked in the driveway sat your cousin’s car. You parked, killed the engine of your Corvette, grabbed the basket of muffins off the passenger’s seat, and walked inside.
Your grandma was ecstatic about the muffins and seeing you, but not quite as ecstatic as your cousin. She eyed you with a wide-eyed expression and nodded to speak to you in the next room.
“What’s going on?” You asked her cautiously.
She thrust her phone into your hand. It was lit up with a series of messages from multiple people that were mutual friends of the two of you. Different variations of:
Is she coming to the party?
Have you been able to contact y/n?
Does she know about his invitation?
“Have you checked your messages lately?” She asked, bubbling over with excitement.
You furrowed your brows, confused, “No. I’ve been driving. Plus, I was passing though that stretch of woods where there’s no phone signal. I haven’t gotten any messages until now—”
You trailed off as the phone in your purse buzzed out of control, trying to catch up with all the messages coming through. You all but ran over to your phone and that’s when you saw it. It was one of the first notifications you tapped. A formal invitation to what was obviously a very exclusive party being thrown by none other than Kylo Ren, the commander of Starkiller base.
“This can’t be real,” you said, looking over to your cousin.
She nodded her head in excitement, “Oh, its real. Apparently, he saw the article about you and your Corvette restoration in that car magazine. He’s throwing this whole party just as an excuse to meet you.”
“What? No way. How would you even know that?” You said skeptically.
“Well,” your cousin trailed off, “My friend Jenny’s brother has a friend that’s girlfriend is an engineer on Starkiller base and even though it’s supposed to be hush hush, the whole base is buzzing with the fact that as soon as he saw you in that magazine, he was absolutely captivated.”
This news made your stomach flutter and you thought back to the wish you’d made earlier. You’d wished to have more run-ins like the one you’d had with Dean. A thrill shot through you at the memory of Dean bending you over your Corvette’s hood, not even an hour ago and the unknown thrill of meeting the infamous Kylo Ren later tonight.
The Commander was rumored to be extremely handsome. Tall with long dark hair, but the rumor was also that he could have a mean streak.
“Wait, isn’t he supposed to be an asshole?” You asked.
Your cousin shrugged, “I don’t know, but he’s definitely your type. Tall, dark, broody, and sad.”
You had to laugh at this, “Okay, well,” You tugged at your wrinkled, sex ravaged dress and hair, “lets make this pumpkin ready for a party.”
-----
Later that evening, clad in a shimmering pale blue evening gown with a slit nearly to your hip, you entered a grand ballroom that dripped in elegance and excessive wealth. You’d heard that his mother’s side of the family came from money, but even that knowledge didn’t prepare you for what you saw.
“I’ll be right back, I’m going to grab us drinks,” Your cousin said as she rushed off to the open bar.
You watched her disappear into the sea of beautiful dresses and expensive suits before panning your gaze around the room. You didn’t exactly know who you were looking for, you’d never seen a picture of the Commander, only rumors of what he looked like.
Something made you turn your head, a feeling, a calling, an urge. Something you couldn’t quite explain, and that’s when you saw him. Without a shred of a doubt this was the man you were looking for.
He radiated power. Tall with dark hair long enough to tough his shoulders, his dark eyes bore holes into you like he wanted nothing more than cross this room and rip your dress off. Honestly, you’d definitely let him if he tried because the rumors were nothing compared to the real thing. This man not only radiated power, but raw sex. Something about him made you want to throw all caution and manners out the door and fuck him immediately. Maybe you were just feeling extra bold, empowered by the secret wish you’d made to yourself.
Your secret thoughts made your core ache and once again you felt a wetness pooling on your thigh. You sighed, maybe you should start wearing panties if this was going to become a regular thing. No, no, definitely not. Not wearing panties worked out very well for you earlier today.
Kylo Ren continued staring at you from across the room, but now his gaze warmed you up from the inside out, literally. You felt hot. You felt—something.
You gasped at the sudden onslaught of pressure on your clit. It nearly brought you to your knees and took everything you had not to cry out in pleasure.
Kylo began to cross the room, never breaking eye contact, and smirking all the way.
When he reached you, you were on the verge of losing the feeling in your legs. He scooped an arm around you, and held you against him as if the two of you were dancing. You felt warm breath against your ear and heard his deep voice whisper.
“You better watch out, thinking such dirty thoughts that loudly.”
You whimpered. Of course, why didn’t it cross your mind before? He had jedi training, he could read minds, hear thoughts, and probably a slew of all sorts of other things. Such as use the force in very sneaky, savory ways. Like right now.
“Do you want me to keep going?” Kylo whispered with a tiny nip on your ear.
You couldn’t speak so you just nodded your head.
He chuckled under his breath, “I thought so.”
The pressure on your clit sped up. It felt like an invisible finger working you under your dress. You were so close, but trying not to scream at the top of your lungs at how good it felt.
“You’re so close, I can tell,” he said darkly, “If you can come without screaming in front of all our guests, I’ll take you in the back and you can scream as loud as you want.”
That did it. That’s what pushed you over. You exhaled in a loud huff that was drowned out by the music playing on the speakers as ecstasy washed over you.
“Good girl,” Kylo whispered as he took your hand and led you through a side door that opened into an empty hallway.
No sooner had the door closed behind the two of you was Kylo’s real hand under your dress, “Mmm…” he said as he slipped a large finger inside you, “Even better than I imagined.”
You gasped and clenched down in pleasure, “Kylo—”
“Commander,” he corrected you.
Your eyes widened and if possible, his stern command made you even more turned on, “Commander, please do that again.”
“What? This?” He said as he added another finger and began to flex in in a come hither motion.
“Yes!” you panted, “Yes, that.”
“Hmm,” he hummed under his breath, “Such a needy little thing, aren’t you?” He pumped faster, “Just had this pussy fucked earlier today by someone else and already needy for my dick, aren’t you?”
Your mind was fogged with pleasure. All you could do was pant, “Yes, Commander.”
He must have liked that because he pressed a kiss to your neck as he worked his fingers faster, bringing you to another orgasm. Your screams echoed out down the empty hallway.
Before you came down from your high, you felt something stretching you from the inside. A tiny whimper left your mouth.
“You like that?” He began undoing the snaps to his suit pants and unbuttoned his shirt revealing a muscular frame and a very hard cock.
Kylo ran a hand under your dress though the slit and wrapped his palm around your thigh. He backed you into the wall and hooked your thigh under his forearm. He pushed into you roughly and kissed you on the mouth at the same time as he began hard deliberate thrusts that rocked your whole body.
He felt so good.
“I’ve been thinking about having this tight pussy wrapped around me since you walked into my party with all your dirty little thoughts. When I realized how bad you wanted to be fucked, I didn’t want to waste any time with formal introductions. I know you, y/n, and I know you already know who I am,” he growled as he continued to roughly thrust into you.
His skin clapped against yours, echoing in the hall along with your breathless pants and whines. You were so close and you could tell that he knew it. He was getting off to the fact that he was getting you off.
“Scream for me, y/n.” he demanded as his dark eyes stayed locked on yours.
“Commander!” you screamed as you came hard.
Kylo wasn’t far behind, his hips stuttered and he didn’t pull out. He came deep inside as he pressed you harder against the wall.
You waited for him to pull out but he stayed inside for a few more seconds as he wrapped both arms around you, holding you gently. A stark contrast to the rough sex you’d just had. He nuzzled your neck and you could’ve sworn you heard a whimper come from him as he kissed from your neck down to your throat.
He gently pulled out and sat you on your feet as he cupped your face in both hands and kissed you softly.
“I can’t let you go, I need you, y/n.”
Before you could process what that could mean, he passed his hand in front of your eyes and you instantly fell asleep. He lifted you bridal style and began walking in the direction of the tallest tower…

Biting Dust - Ch. 5
Life ain’t too easy for a woman, ‘specially not a woman on the run like you. With a bounty on your head and gunpowder in your nose, you’ve grown adjusted to a life of solitude away from the hustle and bustle of civilization. That is, until you meet one particular man who’s got a face you’d only ever seen in your dreams – or on wanted posters. And when he offers you a proposition that sounds too good to be true, well. You don’t think your life will ever be the same again…

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Red clouds of earth kick up behind your horse’s hooves as they gallop far past the town line, hootin’ and hollerin’ all the while. The wind whips your hair around, your bonnet flung right off your head, held onto your person only by the wide ribbon that’s kept it tied ‘round your throat. Adrenaline pumps through your body, makes your vision spotty, makes your heart beat fast fast fast, ridin’ like lightning away from Ragrock.
Kylo’s right beside you, makin’ just as much damn noise as you, his crooked teeth gleamin’ gold in the blazin’ Arizona sun. You ain’t never see him grin this big, as he shouts and jeers too, challengin’ the canyons and the desert, darin’ them to take this moment away from the both of you.
“I can’t fuckin’ believe you!” You laugh, voice nearly gettin’ lost in the wind, cheeks hurtin’ from the way you’re smilin’ so much, “Goddamn you’re so -- so -- stupid!”
Kylo laughs at that too, a deep rumblin’ sound that feels so much like thunder that you’re sure it’s shakin’ the earth. Or maybe that’s Sam and Agnes, the way they’re throwin’ their heads back and whinnying and stampin’ their hooves into the caked dirt below. Either way, it’s a good sound, one of them sounds that makes you ache in your bones; you can’t remember the last time you heard someone else laugh so genuinely.
“Yeah?” He finally decides to slow Sam to a halt, and you do the same, tuggin’ on Aggie’s reigns to get her to calm just a little bit, the horses powerful legs comin’ to a gentle trot, both you and Kylo gulpin’ down air.
“Yeah. Why the hell did you bring us through there knowin’ there was bad blood?” You reach into the saddle bag and pull out a canteen, measurin’ a careful sip or two of the fresh river water, before decidin’ to pass the jug over to Kylo himself.
Gratefully, he takes the same size sip as you, and you think that’s mighty chivalrous of him once again, on account of he’s a much bigger person than you, and should clearly need more water. Still, you don’t protest when he hands the canteen back to you, the lid screwed on nice and tight to avoid spillin’.
“It was the only place I could think of that’s close enough.” He shrugs, and you frown ever so slightly at that, knowin’ that really, as long as you stay close to the Colorado River, you’ll have just about anything you need.
Well, almost, anyway.
“Close enough for what?” Your curiosity gets the better of you, especially when he starts rummagin’ around in his own saddle-bag for somethin’. You lean over, tryin’ to be nosy and get a peek inside, but he only clicks his tongue against the roof of his mouth, and you duck your head, embarrassed at bein’ caught.
“For this,” Kylo doesn’t make you wait though, pullin’ out a couple boxes of bullets, but much more importantly, “And these.”
When Kylo pulls out the burlap sack filled with coins, your eyes widen. Right there in his fist has to be over five hundred dollars in gold and silver, more money than you’ve ever seen in one place save for the banks you burn. It makes your mouth go dry, and you wonder how he got a hold of it all, if he took it from the cash register by force, or if he stole it discreetly.
“Holy shit, no wonder you were takin’ so damn long.” You urge Aggie a little closer to get a better look, darin’ to stick your hand in the bag and scoop up a handful of the coins. They were heavy, heavy and real.
“I figured you wouldn’t be opposed.” Kylo speaks quietly as your hands let the coins fall between your fingers, clinking together back in the sack. He gives you the sack then, lets the weight of it rest in your hands, clearin’ his voice, “We’ll need it for Ruby City.”
Without a thought, you push it back into his hand. He was the one who had stolen it, it belonged to him. Yes you were out of money, your own coin purse completely empty, but...but you had more pride than that, to accept someone else’s hard earned coin. Even if he had earned it wrongly, it was still his.
Besides, you reckon as you shake your head when he tries to give it back once again, Kylo was right -- it’s less suspicious to travel with a man, and if you’re traveling together, he better be the one to handle the money.
Kylo seems to read your thoughts, and he just nods, before taking a couple coins out and handing them to you, fifty bucks weighin’ on your palm.
“Just take the fuckin’ money.” He says with a small smile. “I won’t hear any ‘no’, it’s yours too, for helpin’ me by distractin’ the townfolk.”
You sigh, and reluctantly put the coins in your own small purse. For the first time in a while, the fabric is bulged out and heavy. Kylo puts the burlap sack back in his saddle-bag, and you resolve to ignore its existence until you need him to pay for a room at an inn somewhere.
“Should’ve warned me that you knew the damn bartender.” You scold him then, a little disgruntled that he had kept that information from you. If you were going to be a distraction, you would’ve liked to know exactly who it was you’re distractin’. “Should’ve told me y’all hated each other.”
You don’t tell Kylo that you were flirtin’ with that Armitage, certain that he wouldn’t like it. He sure as hell didn’t like it when Amos was gettin’ a little too friendly with you, anyway, and he was just a stranger. To your surprise though, Kylo scoffs out a laugh, and fishes out his old cigarette from the inside of his boot, lightin’ it with a match and puffin’ smoke through his nose.
“Hate?” He’s got humor in his voice as he urges Sam forward, needin’ to get back towards the water’s edge before the sun sank too low in the sky, “Nah, Hux and I go way back. He’s a good friend.”
You level him a dirty glare at that, if only he had told you he coulda’ saved you a world of panic! You think about the way that Armitage shot out his own windows, the way that Kylo managed to murder Armitage’s brother without any guns of his own, and all the damn fallout that came from it.
“Didn’t seem to be actin’ like a good friend when he was aimin’ his shotgun at your face.” You point out, thinkin’ to yourself, men are so goddamn strange.
Kylo laughs again, and you find yourself growin’ dangerously used to the sound, so you just sigh and shake your head. He smokes and smokes, both of your horses leadin’ you closer to the water, havin’ galloped away from it ever so slightly.
“He likes when I come rollin’ through, trust me. He always complains about how quiet his lil’ town of Ragrock gets, likes to give the folks somethin’ to gossip about every now and again.” Kylo explains, patton’ Sam’s neck and flashin’ you a gold-tipped smile.
“So he really wasn’t going to kill us then?” You raise an eyebrow at him.
“Oh no he probably would’ve if I let him.” Kylo answers quickly, “‘Specially after what I did to Brian. But he’ll be fine with it in a couple weeks once folks tell him I wasn’t the one that started nothin’.”
You stare at him for a little while, and he can feel the weight of your gaze on him, but he only gives you a crooked smile and a wink. You weren’t so sure what that wink meant, but if you had to guess, it could really only mean trouble.
“You’re somethin’ else, you know that?” You lick across your teeth to prevent yourself from smilin’ and givin’ him the satisfaction of knowing that he entertains you. The grin he gives you tells you he knows it anyway.
“Nothin’ that you can’t handle though, I reckon.” Counterin’ with a slight smile, Kylo ducks his head and blushes, and that alone is enough to make you tap your heels against Aggie’s hide, to get her to go gallopin’ down the canyons again.
-----------------------
Some hours later, when the world around you starts to cool off from the settin’ of the sun, you and Kylo set up camp near the river. He had gone ahead and scouted the spot out, made sure there weren’t any folks who had already laid claim to that particular stretch of the bend, no one that could go cousin’ any trouble.
There was more than enough money now, to buy new stocks of food whenever y’all got to the next stop along the route, but that didn’t mean that you were about to let Kylo blow through the supply. So instead, you ask he hunt you down another rabbit for dinner, which he does in less than a half hour, impressin’ you once again.
It’s quiet, out there by the river. The sky has faded to a gentle purple, the silvery moon high in the sky. You’ve got a fire made, nothin’ too big or roarin’, just tall enough to heat up the cast-iron pot that you’ve got hangin’ over it by an iron stake. That rabbit is stewin’ in the pot, along with some water, beans, cut up carrots and a little bit of rice. You stir the pot, listenin’ to the sound of the river as it trickles past.
The sweet sound of a harmonica sounds then, and your gaze snaps up to see Kylo with the instrument against his lips. His eyes are closed, and he’s breathin’ nice and even, the high tune of a melody makin’ your throat choke up. It was a tune you knew all too well, once upon a time, a long time ago.
You stir the stew, chewin’ on the side of your cheek, until somethin’ in you compels you to sing. Your voice is a little rusty, but it doesn’t deter Kylo one bit, in fact, when he catches wind of you singin’ along to his tune, he plays a little louder, a little clearer, switchin’ to the harmony as you take over the melody to the sad cowboy song that you once used to teach yourself,
"O bury me not on the lone prairie."
These words came low and mournfully
From the pallid lips of the youth who lay
On his dying bed at the close of day.
He had wasted and pined 'til o'er his brow
Death's shades were slowly gathering now
He thought of home and loved ones nigh,
As the cowboys gathered to see him die.
"O bury me not on the lone prairie
Where coyotes howl and the wind blows free
In a narrow grave just six by three—
O bury me not on the lone prairie"
"It matters not, I've been told,
Where the body lies when the heart grows cold
Yet grant, o grant, this wish to me
O bury me not on the lone prairie."
Kylo sets down his harmonica then, and you blink away a light mistiness in your eye. It ain’t good to dwell on the past, you know, but sometimes, times like these, you can’t help but think ‘bout it. Kylo’s blinkin’ away somethin’ too, you notice, so as you stir the stew and determine the rabbit and vegetable and rice are all as cooked as they need to be, you ladle a big bowl for you and for this man who has become the closest thing to a companion you’ve ever had in your life, and you take it over to him.
He doesn’t move, doesn’t speak, not for a while. You simply sit down next to him, as close to him as you’ve gotten since that time in the river, and hand him the bowl and spoon. He accepts it gratefully, his own gaze cast into the fire, and not for the first time, you wonder what’s goin’ on in his head.
After a couple bites of the stew, you rest your head on his shoulder. It’s a tentative motion, a hesitant one. Kylo holds his breath, you can feel it in the way he tenses ever so slightly, but he doesn’t tell you to move, and that’s as good of an invitation to stay as any, you reckon.
“You can’t go lookin’ at me like that, by the by.” Breaking the silence, you slurp down a spoonful of stew yourself, lookin’ into the comforting vision of the flames which flicker and flare gently in front of you.
“Hm?”
“If we’re meant to be cousins,” You explain, voice soft and kind, knowin’ that you’ve been too hard on him these past couple days. “You can’t be givin’ me those eyes of yours. Folks might see through the ruse.”
Kylo surprises you by shruggin’ with his other shoulder, his cheeks crinklin’ into a smile. His dimples crease, and he chews on his lip a little, keepin’ his eyes down as he blushes.
“Folks marry their cousins all the time, it wouldn’t be so strange.” Kylo nearly whispers, almost like he’s afraid to speak the words, rushes quickly to try and change the subject as soon as he’s said it, “Hell, my mother almost married her own damn brother on accident -- but that’s a long and complicated story.”
“Oh so we’re married now.” You smile, feelin’ the heat rise to your own cheeks. It’s less of a question and more of a statement, the way you say it, and you find that against your own better judgement, you like the way it sounds. You like the idea of it, and that makes butterflies spark up in your stomach, a feelin’ you ain’t so used to.
“We could be.” Kylo doesn’t dare look at you, idly stirring his bowl, “We could pretend, anyway.”
You think for a second about what that might be like -- but then you shake your head a little and sigh, “I made a promise I’d never be a meek housewife.”
“Ain’t no one here callin’ you meek.” Kylo reassures you, and now it’s your turn to duck your head, to rest it against his shoulder a little more. Your heart beats wildly in your chest, you wonder if he can hear it out there in the quiet of night.
“Be my cousin, for just a little while longer.” You whisper, a silent plea to just give you some more time, “Until we make it to Ruby City.”
“I can’t get a good read on you.” Kylo hums, and you’re relieved to hear that he’s not got an angry or disappointed edge to his tone.
He really does respect you, you realize all of a sudden. Maybe it’s foolish to come to that conclusion so soon, so quickly after you’ve met him, but you can’t help but come to it nonetheless. He’s done nothin’ but respect you this whole time, and you don’t know what to do about that. It’s never happened before.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” You ask, a hint of a smile on your lips.
“It means that you’re the most mysterious damn woman I’ve ever met.” He replies easily, a smile on his own.
“I have to be.” Shrugging, you eat another bite of the stew, wishin’ you had some spices to throw in it. You hope Kylo doesn’t think it’s too bland -- before growin’ bashful again, at the thought that you want him to enjoy your cookin’.
“Why’s that?”
“Because the more people that know about me, the less safe I am.”
“I told you -- ”
“I know, you ain’t gonna hurt me, I know.” You interrupt him, before sighing, wondering if you were really going to do this, if you were really going to tell him. “That’s not what I meant.”
Kylo senses a shift in the air, a change in the atmosphere, and his teasing playful smile melts into something a little more somber, more serious. He watches you, and waits for what you have to say, and you decide that what the hell -- if you couldn’t tell Kylo, you couldn’t tell anyone at all.
“I didn’t always used to be an outlaw, you know.” Setting down your bowl of stew, you fidget with the hem of your blue dress’ skirt, and look into the fire, your memory transporting you to a place and time that felt like a million years ago. “There was a time, a long time ago, that I was a school teacher, in a tiny town in the middle of nowhere Utah...”
-----------------------
You were young, when you started teachin’ at the school. It had always been your favorite place when you were growin’ up, and when the teacher herself got married and moved away, you jumped at the vacancy at once. This was the only way a young woman like yourself could earn a living with her clothes on, you knew that, and though you were barely older than the students that came to your classes, you took your job seriously.
It had been a bright sunny morning in Spring the day you turned sixteen, when the bells tolled for all the school children to come rushing to your door. Standing outside the single room schoolhouse, you had a cheerful smile on your face as you welcomed the students that you had come to love and care for, as they bounded up the few steps and into the wooden building. Ranging in age from as young as five, to as old as twelve, two dozen students took to their seats, fresh faced and recently washed, hair combed for their lessons.
“Good mornin’ class!” You walk to the front of the room once the bell finishes tolling, picking up a piece of chalk and writing out the first line to a popular sea shanty turned folk song, your delicate cursive spelling, ‘O Bury Me Not On The Lone Prairie.’
“Good morning Miss (L/N)!” The class responds in happy unison. One of your students, a young girl named Wendy quickly gets out of her seat to place an apple on your desk before hurrying back.
You smile at her, at all of them, having grown so fond of this mis-matched group of kids that have been placed in your care for the weekdays.
“I trust y’all had a good weekend?” You ask them, met with a chorus of overlapping affirmations, and you chuckle at their response to immediately wantin’ to tell you all about everything they did on their days off. “Good, I’m glad. Now if you would buddy up and please take out your textbook, we’ll pick up where we left off on Friday.”
The McGuffey reader was your go-to book to teach the children with, it had everything you needed -- reading, writing, and arithmetic that was easy enough to understand by even the littlest of your students. It was broken down into repetition, phonetics, and even had lines to trace the letters and numbers, but more than that, it was the book you yourself had learned to read by, so you were familiar enough with it.
“Who would like to be the first to read what I’ve got written up on the board?” You ask, once they’ve all opened their books to the appropriate page, a handful of eager students at once clamoring to volunteer.
And so, like any other day, the morning turned to afternoon, and the afternoon turned to evening. When the bells rang to dismiss the class, the children groaned, knowing that meant they had to go home where their family would likely put them to work in the field or in the kitchen for an hour before supper.
“Thank you for another wonderful day children, y’all be good for your parents now, you hear?” You try to encourage them to cheer up, even if it did warm your heart that they liked learning from you so much. “Oh, Rickie? Could you come here for a minute? You’re not in trouble, I promise.”
Sitting at your desk for a moment, you saw the earring that you had stashed in your drawer from the evening prior, and you fish it out as the ten year old skips over to you, his mousy brown hair flopping around as he does. You smile, thinkin’ that he might do to ask for a trim when he gets home.
“Yes ma’am?” Rickie stands before the desk, and you hand him the earring, his eyes going wide as he recognizes it.
“Could you do me a big favor and deliver this to your Mama? She must’ve dropped it here last night and I’m sure she’s goin’ crazy lookin’ for it.” You smile, and he nods happily.
“She sure is! Earned myself a smack upside the head I did, when she thought I snatched it from her dresser!” Rickie laughs, clearly glad to have been vindicated.
“Well I’m sure she’ll be sorry when you bring it back to her, let her know I was the one who had it, not you.” You smile back warmly at him, but he’s already runnin’ out of the schoolhouse, callin’ another thanks and a goodbye behind him as he goes.
Only a moment or two before the last of your students are gone, is there a knock on the door.
He doesn’t wait for an answer before coming in anyway, and you look up with a frown to see who would be so rude as to invite themselves, until you recognize the sheriff and put a forced smile upon your face.
“Hello sheriff, how are you this fine evenin’?” You present yourself as politely as possible, as the man’s spurs clink while those heavy boots of his walk across your floors, trackin’ mud in from the outside with little care.
You didn’t like him, the sheriff. Didn’t like the way you caught him starin’ at you sometimes, didn’t like the way you caught him starin’ at the girls in your class. He was one of the oldest fellas in town, maybe three times your age. He’s starin’ at you now, eyein’ you up and down in a way that makes your skin crawl.
“I’m doin’ well honey, thank you.” The sheriff chews on some tobacco, a habit you can’t stand, before pointin’ out the door behind him and askin’ with a stern voice, “That boy wasn’t givin’ you any trouble, was he?”
“Rickie? No of course not, he’s a good kid.” You’re quick to reply, not wantin’ to cause any trouble for the young farmboy. You and the sheriff look at each other for a moment or two, before you grow more and more uncomfortable, busyin’ your hands with the worksheets that’ve been left on your desk to grade. You clear your throat, “Is -- has somethin’ happened?”
“Naw, I just wanted to come by and see ya before your night class starts.” The sheriff’s spurs clink clink clink over to the desk where he sits himself down, right on the wooden table-top.
“Well, here I am. Can I offer you somethin’ to drink? Coffee?” You try your best to be polite, hoping that one of your night students -- adults from the town who never got to go to school when they were young -- might show up and come to your rescue.
“Not tonight, thank you.” He replies, making you sigh out with relief against your better judgement. He doesn’t notice, instead you can feel his gaze on your chest, “But, if you’re free this friday evenin’, I’d love to take you up on that offer.”
“Oh...I see.” Bile rising up in the back of your throat, you shake your head and try to reject him as politely as possible, voice clipped yet firm as you move from around the desk to the chalk-board where you erase the children’s lesson and prepare for the adult’s. “Sheriff, I’m sorry but, I’m not quite interested in seein’ anyone at present.”
“And why’s that?” He doesn’t leave you alone, and you begin to panic with the way he’s steppin’ closer to you, knowin’ that if he traps you against the board, there won’t be a clear path to escape.
“Well it ain’t allowed for a woman to be datin’ while she’s a schoolteacher.” You explain, your voice starting to wobble.
Something about that makes him chuckle, somethin’ sinister, his blackened teeth from all that damn tobacco too close to your face when he grins.
“Must be awfully lonely,” Sheriff runs his hand up your arm, “Missin’ the comfort of a man at night.”
“It’s not.” Your body shudders in revolt, and you try to side step him, blood pounding in your ears, eyes wide in distress as you feel sweat bead up and trickle down the back of your thigh, “I appreciate your concern but -- ”
“Let me just get one kiss then.” He doesn’t let you go that easily, grabbing your arm harshly and dragging you over to one of the desks where he pushes you with a rough shove. His hand grips your cheek too hard, forcing your mouth to pucker as you fight him.
“Sheriff, I said no -- please get away from me -- I don’t -- don’t touch me!!” You knee him hard straight in the groin, your panicked scream alerting the adults who had thankfully, miraculously, decided to show up for evening class early.
“Miss (L/N)!” A couple of cattle ranchers kick the door open and run to your side, tugging you away from the sheriff who laughs loudly. You smell the stench of alcohol on him, realizing he’s drunk as all hell, and cling to the strong rancher, tears threatening to spill over your eyes.
“Don’t you ever fucking touch our teacher again!” One of the ranchers, a nice man named Francisco, holds you tightly, protectively. You always liked Francisco, he treated you like a daughter he never got to have. The other, Jedidiah, stands firmly next to you, so ready to lunge at the sheriff that you can’t help but feel immense gratitude towards them.
“Everythin’s just fine son, run along now.” The sheriff chuckles, but neither Francisco nor Jedidiah move a muscle.
“Sheriff I think you need to leave.” Mustering up as much of your courage as possible, you speak clearly, willing your voice not to shake as the safety of Francisco’s arms give you strength, “Class begins soon, I’m sorry.”
The ranchers stare the sheriff down, and he stares back, before noddin’ with a sick understandin’ that you reckon means this won’t be the last you see of him. Spittin’ his tobacco onto the floor, that same floor he sullied with the mud under his boots after the children had so lovingly cleaned it with you, the sheriff turned on his heel and left, pausin’ at the doorway for a moment to send you a dark, threatenin’ chuckle, “You will be.”
“Are you alright Miss (L/N)? Did he hurt you?” Jedidiah takes his cap off and kneels in front of you, tryin’ to appear as non-threatenin’ as possible. Francisco releases his hold on you, and checks you for any marks or signs of stress, but you just let out a shudderin’ breath and shake your head. You’re not sure which question that’s meant to answer, but they don’t press you.
“Who do we call when the sheriff’s the one acting out?” Francisco wonders aloud, and you feel like there’s lead in your belly, because he’s right.
The only way you’d likely be able to avoid the sheriff and his wrath would be to leave town altogether, and well, you couldn’t do that. Who would keep after the students then?
There wasn’t any trouble during the lesson that evening, much to your satisfaction. The later it got in the night, the more you felt relieved, surely if the sheriff was going to cause trouble, he would’ve done so by now. Your students can tell that there’s something off about you though, a few of them approachin’ you after the class was done, wonderin’ if there was anythin’ they could do.
In hindsight, you wonder how different your life would’ve been, had you asked to stay with one of them for the evening, or had you asked one of them to stay with you.
The chokin’ woke you up, before anythin’ else. Smoke, thick black plumes of it pouring out of the windows, the doors. Smoke in your lungs that had your body joltin’ up and out of the little bed up in the attic where you lived above the schoolhouse, had you rollin’ onto the floor in a panic.
“No!” You shout, as the heat of red orange yellow flames begins to lick up the walls, eatin’ away at the wood structure of the building, the whole thing two steps from bein’ a blazin’ bonfire out in the field, “Oh god, oh god no!”
Frantic, you run, mind going blank, trying to focus on grabbin’ the important things, only the important things; a photo of your family, the money out of the dresser, a copy of your favorite book. That was it, all you had that you could think to grab, before trying for the door.
The handle burns, and you scream, shaking the pain away from the blisteringly hot doorknob. You’re fucked, oh you’re so fucked, you think as you back up enough to barrel your way through the door, the wood shattering and splintering. The fire reached all the way up to the attic, there was nowhere you could escape. You could jump out the window, but you’d break your neck landin’ on the hard ground. Outside, someone yells, revelin’ in the way that you scream.
“If I can’t have you, ain’t nobody gets to have you, hear that? You hear that bitch?” The sheriff cackles tauntingly, and the fear of death drips icy cold down your back, compels you to run as fast as you can down the wooden rickety stairs, into the blaze.
If you can just get out, if only you can get out of this building, maybe you’ll survive, maybe you --“No!”
One of the stairs has shattered beneath your feet, your foot stomping straight through it, trapped. You cough and hack up the smoke, it’s stinging your eyes, it’s in your lungs, soot in your mouth, you can’t see, oh god it’s so hot, the flames are surrounding you, and your foot is stuck through the stairs.
“Please, please come on you’re strong enough for this, you have to be strong enough for this, come on.” You sob, willing yourself, yanking your foot out in harsh movements as the laughter screeches around you in a drunken stupor.
Eventually, in all your efforts, the structure of the stairs give away entirely, and you try to grab onto something as the floor falls beneath your feet, sending you crashing down into the classroom below. The fire’s taken everything here; the wallpaper, the tables and chairs, even the shiny apple that Wendy sat on your desk, all reduced to ash, cracking and spitting in the flames.
You’ve hit your head from the fall, you can’t move. Somethin’s pinned your legs, you can’t feel nothin’. At least there ain’t any smoke down here, all of it risin’ up up up through the building. The smoke pushes the bells, make them toll. You wonder if they’re callin’ the Reaper, tears slippin’ down your cheeks.
“All the books, oh the poor children.” You whisper, thinkin’ of them all, watchin’ as the textbooks singe to nothingness, knowin’ that soon your body will follow, “Who’s going to teach the children?”
-----------------------
Kylo’s arm is around you, you realize, out there in the present. He’s stock-still, face gone pale, somber. He’s crying, you realize, jaw clenched tight, the muscle in his cheek flexing from the force of it. You’re crying too, wetness on your face. You watch as a tear plips into the rabbit stew, and you’re not entirely sure if it’s one of yours, or Kylo’s.
“The rest of the town came to my rescue, once the flames got so bright you could see ‘em from across the fields. They thought I was dead, when they found me.” You clear your throat, rememberin’ the details of the story that you had only found out after the fact, “I was covered in soot, breathed too much of it in, I wasn’t wakin’ up. I later found out that the sheriff didn’t let them give me a funeral, just told them to stick me in a coffin and gave me a shallow grave.”
Kylo remains quiet, but the arm around you tightens. You’re reminded of Francisco then, how he had protected you. You wonder where he is, what he’s doing. If he ever got to have a daughter.
“I was glad for that part at least, it wasn’t too hard to dig my way back out when I woke up. I must’ve only been there for a couple hours, the dirt wasn’t packed tight or nothin’, thankfully.” You sigh, not knowing when to stop, now knowin’ how to do any of this, how to be vulnerable like this. You ain’t had to be vulnerable in a long, long time.
“Must’ve been out of my mind, I had never thought about killin’ anyone before, you know. I was more angry about the loss of the school than I was for my own life, if you can believe. I hunted him down, the sheriff. He thought I was a ghost, and he hid from me. I found him in the end, doused him in kerosene and lit the sonofabitch on fire right on his front porch.”
You lean your head on Kylo’s shoulder, and ever so gently, he rests his cheek against you back.
“I was sixteen then, and “I’ve been burnin’ shit down to the ground ever since.” You whisper, voice almost lost by the trickle of the river as it flows down to Colorado.
“I’m sorry.” Kylo says, snuffling into your hair a little bit, holdin’ you close, a silent promise.
“It ain’t your fault.” You reply, fightin’ that sour feelin’ in the back of your throat, nudging your face a little closer into his neck.
“If I had been there, I would’ve helped you.” He says, even though you both know that there ain’t no changin’ the past.
“You’re here now.” You pull back enough to look at him, really look at him right in the eyes.
“Yeah, I am.” He nods.
You wonder, sometimes how life might’ve been different, but after all is said and done, this is the life you’ve got.
Kylo lies down then, one arm extended out from his body, an offer.
You don’t think twice about it, when you lay down next to him, your head usin’ that arm as a pillow. It wraps around your shoulder, tuggin’ you to Kylo’s chest, and for the first time in a long time, when you sleep, you don’t dream.
"I've always wished to be laid when I died
In a little churchyard on the green hillside
By my father's grave, there let me be,
O bury me not on the lone prairie."
"I wish to lie where a mother's prayer
And a sister's tear will mingle there.
Where friends can come and weep o'er me.
O bury me not on the lone prairie."
"For there's another whose tears will shed.
For the one who lies in a prairie bed.
It breaks me heart to think of her now,
She has curled these locks, she has kissed this brow."
"O bury me not..." And his voice failed there.
But they took no heed to his dying prayer.
In a narrow grave, just six by three
They buried him there on the lone prairie.
And the cowboys now as they roam the plain,
For they marked the spot where his bones were lain,
Fling a handful o' roses o'er his grave
With a prayer to God his soul to save.

Interconeccted, chapter (1) kylo ren x reader
a kylo ren x reader fanfiction. warnings: this fanfiction will develop dark themes as it goes on.
chapter 2: here
through which two force-sensitives could influence each other or even feel each other's physical, emotional or mental pain.
“The food we’ve managed to get will last us months.” Your cousin cheered.
You hum back reading one of the few books in the abandoned pile. All of them were quite dusty after finding them scattered on the ship you rested on. It was titled; The Forgotten History of Jedi
“Now we’ll just have to sneak it back.” She mumbled.
Shea grabbed the heaping bags and stepped out, putting them on the horse.
“Lets go!” She hollered, annoyed.
You reluctantly placed the book in your bag, leaving the rest behind. You sat up on the horse and felt sadness erupt through you again. The both of you live on your own in a small village, a very isolated one for sure. ‘Adventure’ like this didn’t happen often, only every few months. She thinks she knows well. She is the older cousin and the only one to take care of you after your family died of famine at your young age. It wasn’t common for families to survive on this planet, there was little to food and yet your family was not rich, and barley had made enough to get by so ultimately you and Shea are still struggling.
As you rode the horse back to town heat licked at your sunburned face and coiled around your limbs. Looking up at the bright sky and everything seemed to have a glaze. The headache that the heat brought felt unbearable. You suddenly felt your thoughts slip away, a blackness coming over you. Like a blanket, but not a blanket of warmth but a blanket of coldness making you recoil in fear. Suddenly, a sharp pain drove through you. Collapsing and falling on the hard gravel beneath you both. Pain sizzled through your legs up your chest increasing in small waves across your face. Swiftly your body curls into a small ball while the pain burns and radiates.
Everything became fuzzy; then nothing at all.
You woke, everything feeling broken and detached. The familiar decaying ceiling in your eyesight. You had bandages wrapped tightly around your head, assuming that was from the fall you sat up slowly. The headache was unbearable. Looking around you were alone and Shea’s bed across from you was empty.
You called for her but your response was silence. Glancing at the chipped and broken clock, noon just hit. She’s probably at the market selling junk.
There was water beside your bed, hesitantly reaching for a sip the glass slipped. Pain coming over you in sparks. Reflecting something sharp, making it worse each time it touched. The glass broke and made a loud shatter. You didn't wanna bother cleaning it up. It ended as soon as it started, although the headache was worse, the pain had subsided.
Swinging your legs over the bed and walking into the crooked kitchen catching yourself from tripping on your own feet. You lived in a small hut outside the village, fairly run down and little to no insulation. You were hungry, you hoped she would return soon as you looked at the empty containers.
You remembered the book from yesterday, your memories did feel fuzzy. You walked over and grabbed the book, returning to your room and sat on your bed.
The Jedi are the opposite of the Sith, another group of force wielders, the Sith use their passion, and other strong emotions to fuel their power.
Turning the page brought you to the index.
History Of the Jedi
Force Chosen
Movementuls
Force Bond
It caught your eye, going to the page number.
Common to occur between Jedi Masters and their apprentices, a Force bond, also known as Force chain or Jedi kinship, was a link through which two Force-sensitives could influence each other or even feel each other's physical, emotional or mental pain.
Stronger force bonds need a balance of the light and dark sides. Weakers have light and light; dark and dark.
Turning the page again you felt your fingertips burn.
Another page flip.
Fighting or hardship together with the forcebond causes their powers to become amplified as the bond between them grows stronger with every passing moment.
It is known for the beginning of a force bond to include physical pain bursts and may cause the pain to double by the effect of altering two minds.
This can’t be real, the tales were true about the force. Mother always told you and your sister it was a hoax, a scam. Something the galaxy could never accomplish.
Suddenly loud crashing and screams were heard from the village. Fear choked you as the face of your cousin appeared in your head. This must be another attack from the first order. You’ve heard hellish tales about them, they must be looking for someone.
You stumbled to the window looking out. Your heart sank. Everyone in this village has had a family member snatched. Giving a child freedom to roam was asking for the first order to take them.
You ran outside, grabbing a knife from the kitchen. Clutching onto your shirt you held it up to cover your mouth, wind was blowing furiously from the ships landing on your planet. Blasters were shooting civilians and they were taking men and children. You snuck behind ships, running over loose rubble and tumbling down steep sand, feet slipping as your throat shocked and inhaled deeper, faster crying for Shea.
You caught yourself off guard. A stormtrooper spotted you and yelled out. Your adrenaline demands you to run, you keep running but you know your time is up. Out of the corner of your eye you see something sharp and red shooting at you. You try to jump out of the way but it's too late. You scream and collapse to the ground as your wrists are bound and you are guided onto a ship along with other kidnapped citizens.
The whole thing felt fuzzy, and soon enough the doors closed and the ship took off. You woke to the doors opening once again, but now being inside a landing bay for ships. You must be on the imperial navy ship. Only bad things have been heard to be done here. A stormtrooper barked orders for everyone to stand, they grabbed each person kidnapped and pulled them into different lines, Men and women. A stormtrooper tugged harshly at your shirt shoving you into the line of other girls, everyone was terrified. You were all barked at again to follow each leader of your group. Still handcuffed you walked down the hallways of the imperial ship. It was dark and tourture filled.
You were halted, all of you given a number by a droid.
“CLASS: FEMALE: TROOP” “ID: 2310984”
You watched those numbers inbrand into a storm trooper suit, then gave them to you. You wanted to die. Your new life you must act as you can cope with being caged, now fed on a schedule as farmyard pigs, and spoken to without the slightest trace of love.
It has been a month in this hell-hole. You still havent seen a trace of Shea. Your life feels so meaningless, perhaps it's because there is no love here, no hugs or kind smiles, no-one to tell you everything will be okay. And then there are the eyes of everyone here, alive and dead, as if they are so desperate for this nightmare to be over, to be able to leave this place.
You started off your morning like all the other mornings. The female base dorms are cold and dark. You never manage to sleep so breakfast feels like an eternity to arrive. You are given cold scraps of food each morning, along with water. You are in stormtrooper training for the next 2 weeks. You still don’t know what to expect after this, perhaps things will lighten up and you will be brought more light into your new dark life. You are taught daily the mantra not to feel bad for the killings of villagers. Not to feel guilt anymore, not to feel human emotion. You’ve seen so many things this past month you want to forget, one thing still burns within you.
The image of General Hux and the Commander Kylo Ren. You were with your cohort of Stormtrooper Trainees going to retrieve practice guns. The mantra settling in your head once again, You are stormtroopers. You are the keenest weapon in the Emperor's arsenal. Do not fail him. Do not fail me. Your world felt in slow motion as you walked past the commander.
Your heart felt like it stopped beating and your whole body felt heavy, like it was pulling you. The shackles on your handcuffs strained and made noise.
Panic. It drove through me fast and hard.
Breath. It felt so hard to capture.
Movement. Something I could conjure once again.
Force you've never felt before, a force that was screaming at you to run but as if your body were reborn in its most perfect form.
You coaxed yourself to sleep each night trying to re-feel that day. To grasp those feelings of warmth and pulling you felt for that short moment. You needed to be close to him again, your body screamed and ached for it each day but you were still met with the same cold mattress each morning.
The helmet of Kylo Ren was all you saw each time you close your eyes. Suddenly you were brought out of thought by an announcement calling a meeting for all stormtroopers led today by General Hux and Commander Kylo Ren.
You and all the other female soldiers in your dorm put on your uniforms quickly, your heart pounded as you put on your helmet. Your leader lined you all up and made your way to the docks outside where all thousands of them were perfectly lined up. One screw up and your life will be over.
About a half hour later of stormtrooper groups getting led in to get ready for the announcement General Hux with Kylo Ren stood at the podium. Your heart started to pound rapidly as you kept your composite and stayed as still as you could. Anxiety crept up as you started to shake. Kylo spoke, his voice altered from the mask.
“As commander of the first order, we will be initiating an attack on the desert planet of Jakku tomorrow morning. Trainees will not be sent out but will remain on the ships as extras if needed. We are in search of Lor San Tekka. We believe he has a piece of the map leading us to Luke Skywalker.”
You began to zone out as Kylo stepped down from the podium and General hux began to preach about the attack. Your mind felt fuzzy as you kept your gaze on Kylo through your helmet. His cape flew furiously in the wind, flapping and whipping.
The more you stare the more dizzy you feel. A sharp pain woke you out of your trance. It was on the side of your head, like a headache of a million arrows shooting at you. Your arm fell down slightly but you picked it back up hoping no one had seen the slip up.
You kept your eyes on Kylo, and you swear you felt your heart drop out of your chest at the sight of him clutching the side of his head staggerly. He stumbled and looked down at the ground still clutching his head.
You gasped quietly as your heart pounded, the pain you had felt stopped completely the moment he felt it. Soon enough he stood and gathered his composter.
You felt yourself not being able to breathe properly, not being able to conjure what just happened. Then, suddenly, he turned his head towards your direction and the cold eyes of the helmet stung into you.

note: hi i’m back to writing. i posted why i was gone here. sorry this is a short chapter, the other ones will make up for it! i love u all sm!! ty for waiting ♡
- chapter list -
CHAPTER FORTY-EIGHT
The first thing that runs through your mind when you wake up is why the room smells so strongly like disinfectant. It’s making your head thump terribly or maybe it’s something else causing this migraine...
The ache behind your eyes worsens when your heavy eyelids lift to open. The light above you is much too bright. You groan and bring your hand up to shield your face but why does your wrist feel so heavy?
You peek at your hand, seeing that a tiny tube is lodged into the top of your hand and is taped securely against your skin. Your eyes follow the clear tube up to the connected bag full of liquid on a metal hook.
You finally realize that this is not your room. It’s a hospital room. Really?
The memories start to rush back; The mission, the fighting, the Resistance...
Panic strikes you and your breathing quickens while your eyes glance around the familiar room when they adjust to the light. Damn it!
You sigh and look up at the bright white ceiling. The soft beep from your heart monitor is making you angry, why is it to annoying?
The door opens, a woman walks in with a tray of syringes. “Oh, you’re awake?!” She says happily then scurries to your side.
“How’s your pain? One to ten.” She asks you to rate the pain you’re in.
“It’s a seven. Just my head. It hurts.” Your voice is hoarse, “Do you have water?”
She nods as she writes down on a little notepad, “Yes, let me administer some pain medication through your IV first.” She grabs a syringe and connects it to the tube.
She slowly pushes it into your body, you can feel the medicine traveling through your veins. It’s a cold feeling that soothes you.
You almost sigh in relief, “Thank you.”
The nurse smiles and nods as she walks over to the sink to get you a cup of water. “Drink this slowly. You may get nauseous at first.” She hands you the styrofoam cup carefully.
Once your hand wraps around it, you bring the rim to your lips to take a big gulp.
The cold liquid travels down into your stomach, the feeling makes you want to hurl.
The nurse takes it from your hands and lays it down on a little table, “You know the man that brought you in, the Supreme Leader... I’ve never seen him while working here. I’ve only heard rumors that he is scary and tall. A very powerful individual.” Her voice trails off and you go to tell her how wrong she is but she continues.
“But, when he came in with you yesterday. All of those rumors felt like lies. I’ve never seen someone so scared to lose someone. Everybody on this ship are emotionless and stone cold. Be lucky that he loves you like that. Don’t get me wrong, he is still very tall and intimidating.” She chuckles as her hands move around to take care of you.
The words make your heart flutter in the best way possible. She smiles even more at your reaction, “Wait, where is he?” You ask and she perks up.
“I should probably go alert him that you’re awake now, hm? If you need anything press the nurse button on the side of the bed.” She says as she walks out of the room.
You take a deep breath, wishing you could just be somewhere else than this hospital room. It’s boring and it’s letting in bad memories of last time you were in a hospital room on a ship like this.
Slowly, your emotions take over your senses again. Your hands are shaking, your bottom lip quivers and your eyes are filling up with tears.
The last time you were in a room like this, it was against your will. You’re grateful he saved your life but what would have happened if he didn’t?
Then you remember Ailla, your previous nurse and her floating assistant droid. Your first and only friends you’ve made on a ship like this. The last time you saw her was when you were taken by the stormtroopers and put into a holding cell.
Kylo was so different back then. He was rude and cold to you. He starved you until you gave into his ultimatum to join the First Order and somehow you even fell in love with him.
He’s become more open with his emotions, letting you know when he’s happy and that he loves you and you’ve gave birth to his children. It’s insane how the universe works.
You let out a shaky breath you didn’t know you were holding. You’re glad you took the opportunity or you wouldn’t have your two sweet little babies. You’d probably be dead.
Your eyes fly open, taking a sharp breath as you look around your room. You fell asleep. The lights in the room have been dimmed but you spot a dark figure sitting on a chair in the corner. His head is hanging as he his elbows rest against his knees. It’s Kylo.
It’s almost like he knew you‘re awake, his head snaps up then he stands to walk quickly over to the side of the bed. His hand grasps yours instantly, “I didn’t want to wake you. You seemed so peaceful.” He mumbles, you squeeze his hand in response.
“How long were you waiting?” You ask softly, your voice is timid and still hoarse.
“Only about forty-five minutes.” He nods his head slowly, his dark eyes look over you in the bed. “I didn’t want any of this to happen.”
You grumble softly to yourself, making his head pick up to give you a confused look. “How are the kids?” You change the subject.
His facial features soften but his eyebrows are still furrowed in thought, “They’re fine. I have the droid watching them for the time being. I’ve had things to do around the ship.” His thumb absentmindedly rubs across the skin on your hand and over the medical tape holding the IV in place.
“I don’t want you to come with me anymore on these missions. It’s not safe and I don’t want anything to happen to you again.” His eyes glance at you before returning down to your joined hands, almost like he didn't want to see your response.
“What? No, Kylo. I’m not doing that, I want to be by your side.” You scoff and shake your head. You attempt to scoot your body up so you could sit up but some wires kept you tied down. His eyes fall over your pained face.
“I want to go back with you. We were so powerful together, didn’t you feel it?” You’re almost begging him by now.
“There’s no doubt that we were powerful beside each other but it’s not safe.” He replies coldly. “I said no.” He’s serious now.
Your eyes squint into slits, your mouth hangs ajar for a moment then closes. “Well, I don’t agree with you.” You blurt out, making him take a sharp deep breath through this nose, making his nostrils flare.
“You need to listen to me, Y/N. You’re not leaving this ship unless it’s approved by me.” His voice raises which makes you angrier.
“You can’t hold me against my will anymore.” You spit back angrily which makes him groan. He pulls his hand away from yours to take a step back from the bed, his hands rub over his face in frustration.
“Why do you have to be so stubborn?!” He yells into the air, the veins popping out in his neck as he stares at the ceiling. Your body winces at the sudden raise of his voice.
“I am not stubborn. I just want to be able to use that kind of power! I think it’s unfair that you’re going to withhold me from bettering myself.” You push a button so the bed would sit you up.
“See, that’s why I don’t want you to. It’s not making you become a better you,”
His voice lowers almost to a whisper, “The power you yield is incredibly dangerous and it will corrupt your mind. All you will think about is that one thing. You’ll forget about your children, you’ll forget about me. You’ll turn into this person that everyone fears. Do you really want that?”
The change of emotion in the room makes your face go completely still as you stare at him, the tears break free from your waterline when you try to blink them away. Your bottom lip subtly quivers as your emotions flood your body.
“I’ll come by later to take you back to our quarters.” He stands up straight, his dark eyes glance over your features then he turns to walk out of the room.
When the door closes behind him, you let out a sob. Your arms wrap around your body to try and console yourself, your knees slide up so you could cradle them against your chest.
Why does life have to be this way? Why can’t you just exclaim your feelings and not be told you’re wrong?
Your eyes catch something laying on a table beside your bed. It’s your pile of clothes you were wearing when you were brought in, your dusty saber is laying on top of the equally dirty clothes.
Maybe you could just leave now and not wait for him. Although that will piss him off even more.
You gulp and shake your head. There’s no reason to do that to him and betray his orders once again.
You slowly feel your emotions wear off, your body becomes cold and distant from your own conscience. It feels almost as if you turned your emotion switch off in your brain, but why would you do that?
You’ll just have to wait for Kylo to come fetch you from the med ward. Hopefully, everything will be back to normal soon.

Pairing: Poe Dameron x Skywalker!Reader
A/N: Two fics in one month? Inconceivable
Summary: This takes place during the Rise of Skywalker around when Leia dies. Her niece is on base when she dies, and Poe returns from Endor to find her in mourning.
Request: SkywalkerReader! Reacting to Leia’s death and Poe comforting her?
Word Count: 1.5k
Warnings: I cried while writing this, so that doesn’t exactly bode well
* * *
Y/n Skywalker, the only daughter of The Last Jedi.
When her cousin destroyed the Jedi Temple, and her father left, her Aunt Leia took her in; she was 16. However, Leia had been acting as Y/n's mother figure for as long as she could remember, as her mom had died in childbirth, and Luke had never felt as if he could take care of Y/n on his own. In fact, at the Battle of Crait, when her father's figure appeared, he offered more attention to the resistance soldiers than to her.
Leia had both raised her and trained her in the ways of the Jedi. She meant the world to Y/n. Leia was the reason that Y/n never turned to the dark side.
So when somebody came into the makeshift base hospital on Ajan Kloss where you were on bed rest by her order, waiting for a leg wound to heal, bearing the news of her aunt's death, you threw a Kylo Ren sized fit. Same tree, similar apple, right?
“Colonel Skywalker? Are you awake?”
“I am now,” You sat up and immediately, dread washed over you. You could feel the loss of Leia in the universe, you could sense her death, yet still, you asked...
“What happened?” “The General- Your aunt, she’s dead.”
You couldn’t feel the burns and deep cuts on your leg any longer; you couldn’t feel anything. Suddenly to the poor captain in front of you, you looked strikingly akin to your cousin. You rose out of the bed and approached him.
“Did no one think to retrieve me before she departed?” “Y/n-”
“Colonel.” “Colonel, I can’t explain it, it has something to do with the force. But she just walked away and all of a sudden-” “Leave.” “I’m sorry? Colonel-” “I said leave.”
Unlike your cousin, you didn’t need to yell or make some sort of flash of anger to scare somebody; it merely took a look and the right tone. However, this wasn’t something you felt equipped to handle. First came your uncle’s death, then your fathers, both of which you were prepared for in some sense. But Leia’s? You should have been able to say goodbye, you could have helped, you could have done something, but nobody came to get you. You needed her, you didn’t know who you were without her around to help you. After who knows how much time brooding you stormed out into the woods of Ajan Closs.
Your mind was flashing with visions of a planet or a moon you hadn’t seen before, an ocean, some sort of star destroyer, of Rey, of Ben, and of your grandfather. Your face was streaming with tears you weren’t even aware of. You couldn’t feel. You were so angry, with yourself, with your aunt, and your cousin. You felt the grief and pain as the last piece of family you had was ripped away from you. The anger was over taking you and you could only imagine that this was how Ben felt on that fateful night.
You had been fighting this darkness for who knows how long. It has been eating away at you. From the visions, to Kylo Rens appearances to her at night trying to pull you to the dark side.
Unbeknownst after making your way to some clearing, you started taking down trees, throwing rocks, stopping rain, and starting it back up again. You were taking out your anger on the nature that lied before you. It was its own poor luck for being there. You fought the elements for what could have easily been hours, and eventually, you dropped cold in a ring of fire.
* * *
You awoke in a bed that wasn’t yours, not one in the hospital but in one of the residential buildings on the base. Everything hurt; it desperately reminded you of training.
“Y/n?”
It was Poe’s voice that called your name as your eyes fluttered open.
You were choked by tears when you saw his face. You could see the pain that engulfed him not only from the news but at the sight of you.
You were sure that you looked worse than how he had left you which was saying something.
He was sitting in a little chair next to the bed, his bed, that you were lying on.
“Y/n. Chewie, Finn, and I found you in the woods after we landed, you were in this clearing, and you were, or, are really banged up. What happened? Was there some sort of invasion?” You knew he was asking to give you a reason to explain, of course there was no invasion he would have already heard.
“Poe, I don’t know what I’m gonna do with her gone.” You didn’t know what else to say. You had neither the will nor the energy to ignore what you were going through. This wasn’t the same as your father's death; this was far worse.
“Does it make it worse or better to say I don’t know?” He asked with kind eyes.
He stood and gestured for you to sit up. He proceeded to sit so that you could lay your head on his lap.
“Both?”
He gave you a little chuckle.
“It’s not easy, I know, but you have to know that the last thing she wants is for you to destroy yourself.”
“Of course, but how? She’s the thing that kept me together Poe.” “We’ve got each other, that’s how. You aren’t alone, Y/n, you’ve got Rey, Finn, me. We don’t give up on this because she’s dead. And even then, you know better than anyone she isn’t really dead. She lives on in the force.”
“Poe, since when were you such a strong believer in the force?” “Since you showed me. Y/n no matter what happens, I am here for you.”
“And, what happens if I turn into Ben? Without her here to guide me, to keep me from turning away from the light.”
You had been dreading this day ever since the day your father tried to kill your cousin, your twenty-third birthday. It was Ben Solo’s twenty-third birthday the day he became Kylo Ren, the day your grandfather and the darkness took over. Not only was today your twenty-third but it was three days after Ben’s. Leia knew you worried for this day, and she always reassured you that you were strong in the light and that you wouldn’t stray.
“What I did last night in that clearing, I didn’t know I possessed such darkness.”
“That wasn’t darkness that was suffering.” “Ben was suffering and look at what he did. The people he murdered-” “But you’re here right now, aren’t you? In my arms. You aren’t with the First Order or on Exegol with the Sith. You are here, Y/n,” He saw a look on your face he had seen many times since getting to know you. “You aren’t your family. Not Darth Vader, Kylo Ren, or even Luke. Y/n, you may be a Skywalker, but you make your own legacy.”
“Kiss me, Dameron,” you said and angled yourself up so that he could fulfill your request, which he did.
You both shared your mourning and pain in that kiss. Not knowing what was to come with Leia gone, but reminding each other that no matter what, you would be able to find peace in one another’s arms.
“Leia always knew this day would come, she’s prepared you in every way she knew how.” You nodded. “Do you really think I can do this Poe? Be a Jedi Master, fight?”
“Y/n do you think I can lead?”
“Of course Poe, you’ll make a great General.” You were a little confused by his change of topic. “Why do you think that?” He asked as you sat up.
“Well Leia chose you for a reason didn’t she? She trained you, and, oh,” It may have taken you a moment but you realized what he was doing.
“Exactly, and Y/n you’ll always have me. No matter what. And hey, I expect the same from you,” He said in an attempt to lighten the mood which you took as an opportunity.
“You know the General gets a bigger room?” You said, referencing the one you were both in now. “And I’m not sure you’ll know what to do with all that space.”
“What are you insinuating Miss Jedi?” “Well its not as if there’s a Jedi Counsel around to chide me for being with the man I love, Mr General”
“Love?” “More than anything in the whole galaxy.” Poe leaned over to give you another kiss, he twisted to meet your lips. It was passionate, filled with love. It unraveled the knot in your stomach and dispelled the darkness you thought was overtaking you. Your nostrils were filled with Poe’s musk, oil from working in the hangar, leather, and cedarwood. You were in love with this man and you knew that as long as you had him you would be alright.

I Am Grey - Prologue Part Two
REPOSTED ALL TOGETHER - THIS IS ALL OF PART TWO REPOSTED! ENJOY! IF YOU HAVEN'T READ IT, FEEL FREE TOO!
A/N: I don't know if you're supposed to do it, but I did it. I made a part two to the prologue because I'd like the actual chapters to be when she's older. This is the beginning and it explains stuff so that you're not confused later. Sorry it took me awhile. ALL 4631 WORDS
Prologue Part One
This one is long, I hope you like it. It's gonna get funny and exciting when she is older, for this, she is just a scared little kid. Be excited for the next chapter, because trust me...she is not the same. ;)
Flames. Screams. Horror.
It replayed in her mind over and over again. The running, the bodies, the heat. The memories tortured her young mind, floating in and out of sight. Her dreams drifting darker than ever before.
Turning a familiar corner, coming face to face with not the 6 figures from before, but just one. Her cousin, Ben. He was clothed in his white and tan clothes from before.
All she felt was betrayal, pain, and....curiosity. Why? Why was he doing this? Why had he destroyed everything she loved? Before she could react, Ben stepped closer and an evil look crossed his pale face.
From out of no where, he pulled her father towards them both, igniting a lightsaber and plunging it into Luke's stomach. She tried to scream, tried to move, but found that she could do neither. All she could do was stand and watch as he twisted his lightsaber deeper into her father.
He pulled the lightsaber out, her father falling to the ground before his body disappeared. He stepped forward only once before-
J awoke with a gasp, pale blue eyes wide with panic and heart pounding hard in her chest. Her gaze darted around the room. It was a medium sized room, but to the little girl it looked massive.
Almost everything was either black or a shade of grey, including the bed she now noticed she was laying on. It was big enough to easily hold two grown adults, and three or four of J. The rest of the room was bare except for the dresser and two doors.
Her eyes finally drifted to herself, examining the damage she knew was there. Her right arm was tightly wrapped from her elbow to her wrist, a bit of the wound peaking out onto her hand, where she noticed light bruises on her knuckles. In her other arm, an IV had been placed. Someone had tried to fix her up, she'd thank them if she could, but no one was there.
She stayed, staring at her injures for a few moments before trying to sit up. The thick, black blanket fell from her torso and she took note of the new cloths. And unsurprisingly, it was all black. A plain black shirt and pants, and with the blanket pulled down some more, black socks. "This place seems cheery..." she sarcastically mumbled, her voice sounded rough and unused.
J thought about getting up and searching around, but was afraid of moving the IV. She cleared her throat and tried to call out. "Hello?" she was quiet at first, perhaps too quiet, so she tried again, louder this time, "Anyone here?"
She nibbled at her bottom lip, watching the door carefully, but no one came through. It seemed like she waited for hours, when truthfully it was only minutes. The young girl was getting restless, she needed to go. J took a deep breath, slowly moving her legs off the side of the bed. Her legs dangled, not nearly touching the floor.
Her eyes glanced back at the blaster door, no one came through. She moved herself down, feeling the cold floor through her new socks, before putting her full weight on them. Her legs wobbled and ached, her hand shot out and grabbed quickly onto the IV pole, using it for support.
Deep breath in...deep breath out, She told herself, Baby steps. One. Two. Three.
Woosh!
Her head whipped towards the door, stands of hair falling in front of her vision. The door had shot open and in came a terrified looking woman. Behind her was a man dressed all in black with a familiar mask hiding his face. Her eyes widened in recognition, before her gaze turned back to the female.
The woman approached J quickly, causing the young Skywalker to take a few shaky steps back. "You're not supposed to be out of bed ma'am." Ma'am?
"I-I called out a-and no one answered. I was just-"
"Let's get you back in bed." the woman cut her off, seemingly ignoring J's excuse.
"But I don't want to get back in the bed..." J mumbled, sounding like the sad child she was, taking another step back as the woman reached for her, "P-please don't touch me."
The woman looked more frustrated this time, going to move forward, but a hand stopped her. The leather glove was clamped down on the female's shoulder. His helmet turned to look at her before stating, "Leave. I'll request you back in a few minutes." It was simple, but clear. The woman nodded, the scared look back on her features, and then she scurried away. The doors shut harshly behind her.
J hadn't moved during the exchange. Her breathing was fast and her eyes were wide in fear like they had been since that night. He turned to her, silent as he himself moved forward. J didn't move away this time, looking up at a mask which held the face of her cousin under it. The person she used to look up to. For whatever reason, J had loved Ben since the day she was born. Her very first smile was directed at him. He had been her best friend in her 10 years of life.
And he had taken away everything she ever held close to heart.
He took another step, and with these new thoughts in mind, she stepped back as well, but her foot had gotten caught on something. She stumbled back instead, head hitting the wall with a thump. She yelped out in pain, crumpling to the floor. Her vision was fuzzy and a headache had started it's way through her head.
Her vision soon cleared, and her eyes were met with the emotionless mask of Ben. He had crouched down to her height, seemingly staring at her. She stared back, hands dropping from her head and to the freezing ground. It was an uncomfortable silence that fell upon them.
She would have wondered why he was wearing a mask, but it clicked as soon as she thought of it. He was 5 times scarier with it. Without seeing a face, without seeing emotions, it left an odd feeling of suspense that hung thick in the air.
Oddly, the stillness of it all was calming in a way. Her heart rate slowed and her breathing returned to it's own sort of normal. The first movement made in what felt like minutes was the tilt of his head.
"Better?" was all he asked, though the question didn't sound like he was concerned. It sounded almost condescending. J's eyes flickered to the ground as she nodded. He shifted, elbows resting on his bent knees, head straightening back up.
"You're hurt." he stated, "And that woman's a doctor. Let her do her job, J."
"But-"
"J." it was a clear warning.
"Fine! Whatever." she snapped, looking up with a little glare she managed to muster up. He didn't say anything, and didn't move. She couldn't get to the bed with him in front of her, "You need to move, ya know."
Unknown to her, a smirk had formed on his face. It was amusing to see her try to be intimidating. She had a long way to go. He swiftly pushed himself up and took a few steps back, gesturing towards the bed with his hand.
J let out a sigh, placing a hand on the back wall while her other hand gripped the IV stand tightly. She slowly pulled herself up, legs wobbling and head pounding, her eyes closed as pain became clear on her face. She wanted to fall back down, to insist on staying on the ground, but she felt like she had to be stronger than that.
She placed a hand on the back of her head, taking a deep breath. She opened her eyes, blinking away small tears. It was only two small steps till she reached it. J let go of the pole, sliding herself back onto the bed, that felt way more comfortable than it had before.
She watched as Ben's hand came out to the side, opening the door for the doctor. Without saying a word, and moved to stand at the end of the bed. The woman walked over a bit hesitantly, J noticed the supplies that she now brought with her.
She allowed the doctor to gently grab her burned arm, slowly unwrapping it to reveal that the whole back of her forearm was covered in healing burn scars. They were still a bit pink. "Woah..." J's airy voice was evidence of the shock that overcame her, seeing her own arm like this.
"It's still in its healing phase, but it will scar." The doctor informed her, grabbing a tube of some sort of gel, "This'll sting." she than began to apply it to the burned skin. J let out an audible hiss, her eyes clamping shut immediately. Saying it stung was an understatement.
Eventually, she felt fabric against her skin. The doctor was wrapping it back up. The pain subsided and J opened her eyes. The female lifted her small hand gingerly, checking over the fading bruises, which raised the question, "How long was I asleep?"
The doctor was about to answer, when Ben did it for her, "A week."
"A week!?" J repeated in surprise.
This time the doctor got to answer, "I gave you some medicine, to speed up your healing. The coma is a side affect." She dropped J's hand and placed the tube and gauze back in her small bag, "Everything is healing nicely, I'm going to recommend some more rest, and eventually you should be back to normal." The woman hadn't looked at J's face the entire time, she observed.
The woman went to walk away, but J quickly reached out with her uninjured arm and tugged on the fabric of her shirt, "What's your name?"
The doctor turned to her, finally meeting J's eyes, "Dr. Tendo." J finally took notice to how the doctor looked. She had neatly pulled back red hair and chocolate brown eyes. Her face was round and soft. She was beautiful. She had been too caught up to really look at her before.
The young girl offered her a small, weak smile, "Thank you for helping me, Dr. Tendo." She gave J a kind smile back, before turning away and leaving with the slam of the doors behind her. "Bye." she mumbled to herself.
Ben had watched this interaction intently. Snoke had insisted that he keep his cousin alive. He claimed she would one day be powerful and they would need her on their side, considering it easier to manipulate her at such a young age. But from what he just watched, he doubted it would be as easy as Snoke thinks it will be. She's drawn to the light....though, he could sense something else. Something hidden.
J shifted so that she was sitting cross-legged on the bed, staring at her hands in her lap. She could tell he was thinking, with how his helmet was tilted slightly downwards and he took a familiar stance. She imagined that look on his face, the one he always got when he was in deep thought. His face was serious, but his eyes showed that he was clearly not fully at attention.
But he wore a mask now.
After a few moments, J decided to speak up, "Hey, Ben-"
"Kylo."
"What?"
He turned towards her this time, "My name is Kylo Ren." He stood up straighter, "Ben, is gone." he stated definitely. J didn't fully understand what that meant, giving him a confused look.
The modifier hid the sound of his sigh before he clarified, "I changed my name." It didn't sound as cool, but at least J understood now. She made an 'oh' face, than asked, "Why?"
"I needed to destroy my past, who I was, to become what I was always supposed to be." He phrased it the best he could, watching her reaction carefully. She seemed to understand, pondering over something in her head.
"So, you're gonna be different?" she asked, tilting her head to the side much like he had earlier, though her's was more out of curiosity. He nodded, but didn't say anything.
"Oh, okay." She muttered, "Well....then, hey Kylo. Why am I here?" her hands messed with the fabric of the blanket, "You didn't take anyone else, and I know it's not because I'm family, because I didn't see my dad." she looked up from the bed.
"It was an order, from the Supreme Leader." he answered, "Whom we are supposed to speak with later today." this had J more worried than before. Supreme Leader? Who was that? And why did he give the order to kidnap her? "I'll be back in a few hours. I suggest you get more sleep." he finished off, turning away and walking to the doors.
"Wait!" she called. He halted, but said nothing. "W-why.....Why did he order you to take me?" she asked, confusion taking over every other emotion.
It was silent for a few seconds....
"You'll see."
She didn't know when or how, but she had drifted off to sleep at some point. This time it was a decently peaceful, no dreams plaguing it.
Two rather large hands grabbed onto her and began to shake her lightly. Her eyes slowly blinked open, a noise of confusion leaving her lips before her eyes readjusted to the light. "It's time."
The familiar mask of Ben Kylo appeared in her vision. "Oh..." she mumbled tiredly, rubbing her eyes. His hands wrapped around her upper arms, pulling her to sit up. Without warning, he grabbed her uninjured arm and pulled out the IV. "Ow!" she whined, giving a little pout.
He said nothing, only grabbing something from the floor and tossing them to the young girl. She barely caught them, one falling onto her lap. It was a pair of tan boots. They were a soft and comfortable fabric, and she recognized them immediately.
"These are actually mine..." J observed, turning them to look at the bottom, her initials engraved in the bottom. They had been her favorite, but had gone missing awhile back. "How did you find these?"
"They were never missing."
She looked up at him in confusion, before it clicked. This whole thing must have been being planned way before that night, it wasn't a split second thing. He took her boots to make sure they didn't get destroyed. He knew how much she loved them, perhaps this was a small sign of any care he had left for her.
A small smile crossed her little face before she pushed the blankets away from her, slipping the boots onto her feet. They reached up to her mid-calf and were only a bit too big, her father claimed that it was so she would be able to grow into them. She tightly fixed the straps, making sure they wouldn't be too loose.
She swung her legs over the edge of the bed and hopped down, wobbling at first. The pain in her head had resided, making it easier to focus on her steps. "Follow me." he spoke, heading out the door, his cape dramatically swinging out behind him.
J's steps were smaller than his, which made following him harder. She was several feet behind him, and trying her hardest to catch up with him.
It seemed like forever when they finally reached their destination. A large metal door opened to reveal a bland, gigantic room. In the very middle sat a man half the size of the room, it took her a second to recognize it as a hologram. He had an oddly shaped head and a piercing gaze. He was terrifying.
"Supreme Leader." Kylo greeted once they approached the hologram. J stopped a bit behind her cousin, subconsciously trying to hide behind his tall frame.
Snoke gave a nod to the knight, before bringing his attention to the small child cowering behind his apprentice. "Move out from behind him, child." he ordered in a calm voice.
J nibbled on her cheek, fidgeting with the fabric of her shirt. Kylo stepped to the side, looking at the nervous and scared girl. Her eyes darted from him to the large projection before gazing at the floor, moving forward with shaky steps.
The hologram bent farther down in the chair, as if to examine her, "So small for someone so powerful." he spoke, leaning back up and turning to Kylo. "I would have come in person, but my ship is under repair at the moment." he explained, though J had a feeling he really didn't have to. Kylo remained silent, nodding in understanding.
The humanoid switched the topic quickly after that, "I ordered you both here to inform you on my decision." He stated, leaning back in his chair, "I believe it would be beneficial to separate the two of you while you continue your training, Ren."
J stopped her fidgeting, freezing on the spot. What? Her breathing picked up, eyes wide. Alone. All alone. She didn't want to be alone. She couldn't, not now. Not after all of this.
"Where will you be sending her?" Kylo asked, the modifier seemed to hide any emotions he could have been feeling in that moment. Truly, he felt a twinge of worry, though he would never show that.
"Her assigned ship is relatively new. It's name is still being decided. You will be given the location and updates, but that is the extent of it." Snoke answered, "She will still be trained by me personally, but it will be...modified." Kylo gave a nod, while J was getting frustrated that she was not being included in a talk about her. What if she didn't want to go?
"I must go now. Ren, I trust you to finish off the plan. Her transport should be here in less than a week. I trust everything will be taken care of." Snoke's image wavered before fully disappearing.
"I'm leaving?" she asked, though it was rhetorical.
Kylo's mask turned to her, before his whole body turned towards the exit and he stomped over to the door. Yes, stomped. J followed after him, observing how his fists clenched at his sides.
She wondered what had him so worked up.
It had been roughly three days since she had spoken with the Supreme Leader. Kylo had dropped her off back in the room she was staying at without any words, and she hadn't seen him after that. Some clothes had been dropped by for the couple days she'd be here. Surprise, they were black. Much like most of the base.
The days here were repetitive and honestly, quite boring so far. They went like this: wake up, get checked over by Dr. Tendo, eat, talk with Dr. Tendo (they had created a friendly bond over their time together) , occasionally walk around the base, and sleep.
Today, she was in the 5th step. She wore a black shirt and pants with her tan boots, but with a black jacket this time. The wardrobe was slowly growing.
She stuffed her hands in the pockets of the jacket, strolling around the hallways. Her legs had started to feel better, so this was more enjoyable than the first time she had tried. She blew a piece of blonde hair out of her face before turning an unfamiliar corner, which caused her to bump straight into another person.
She yelped as she stumbled backwards, blurting out a "Sorry!". She looked up to face the mask of her cousin, "Oh, hi." she mumbled, eyes glancing to the side.
"What are you doing outside your room?" his modified voice asked, sounding curious, but also annoyed. J awkwardly shrugged, "I got bored."
Under the mask, he rolled his honey-brown eyes at her response. He had been coming to get her anyway, "You won't be for much longer, your transport will arrive in an hour."
Panic spread through J, she knew it was coming, but she didn't expect it so soon. Even though her days were boring, at least she wasn't alone.
"I may not be bored...but I'll be alone." she stated, her voice laced with sadness.
"They'll be people." he responded.
"Not one's I know!"
"You'll get to know them!"
"I don't want to!"
"J!"
"BEN!"
"DON'T-" he growled loudly, clenching his fists. J had jumped, cowering from the loud noise. He took a deep breath, knowing that lashing out and hurting the girl wouldn't work out well. He resisted the urge to grab his lightsaber and carve dents in the wall, and tried again, "Don't call me that. And I suggest you stop arguing. You're going on that ship, whether you want to or not."
Her eyes watered, but she nodded, staring at the ground and her boots. A small, hidden part of him wanted to do something...anything to make her feel better, but he pushed it deep down.
"You have time to say goodbye to Dr. Tendo, but then we have to wait at the bay. It's been requested that you leave as soon as possible." he stated, watching the girl shift feet.
"Okay....but I don't know where she is...." her voice was quiet. He nodded before turning on his heel and walking the other way. She followed quietly, assuming he was showing her where to go.
She knew he had been when they arrived at the med-bay. She moved in front of him, looking around until her eyes spotted the familiar bright red hair. She was looking over something on her data pad. "Dr. Tendo!" J waved, giving a weak smile.
The ginger perked up, smiling before turning her head towards the little girl's voice, smile faltering when seeing the dark clad figure behind her.
"Hello J." she greeted politely, walking over to the two, "I talked to you a few hours ago, what's up now?" she asked, trying to ignore Kylo's presence.
J's smile disappeared completely, "Well...I-I'm leaving...soon." she looked down at her fidgeting hands, "I came to say Goodbye. And thank you for taking care of me."
Dr. Tendo glanced over at Kylo, than moved her eyes to the little girl, and surprised her by wrapping her arms around her small frame. "It's been a pleasure getting to know you J, I hope we see each other again soon."
J felt awkward at first, but than found comfort in the hug. She squeezed the doctor's waist, holding onto her tightly. She didn't know what to say, so she just held onto her like her life depended on it.
Dr. Tendo could tell that Ren was becoming impatient, causing her to place her hands on J's shoulders, gently moving her away, "You should probably go...but first, I'd like you to have something." she gave the girl a small smile, sliding a bracelet off her pale wrist and onto J's.
It was an open bracelet, silver until one of the end forms into a golden moon with a silver inside. The other end forms into a small heart with a diamond in the middle. It was beautiful.
"I love it." the girl said in amazement, looking back up at the doctor, "Are you sure?" Dr. Tendo gave a soft smile before nodding,
"Yes, now go on, I'll see you again one day."
J nodded, turning her head to Ben Kylo. His blank mask stared right back at her. She sighed, turning away from the doctor completely, "Let's go." she mumbled, staring down at her wrist.
Ren showed her silently out of the med-bay, and down a couple hallways, before J tugged on his arm, "Wait," she sighed, continuing when he turned to look at her, "Can I see your face before I leave?" she asked, awkwardly glancing away.
He stayed silent for a moment, seemingly contemplating. He glanced around, making sure they were alone, than his hands lifted to the helmet. It released a hissing sound and J stared up at him with anticipation. He slowly pulled it off, ebony hair falling out to frame his pale face. His honey eyes stared down at her.
He was definitely the Ben she grew up with, but he had a different look in his eyes. Something she couldn't decipher. She was happy to see his face, but also saddened and slightly scared. It didn't matter though.
Even though what he did was awful, he was still the person she had looked up to her whole life. In a split second decision, she jumped forward, wrapping her arms around his waist and holding him tightly. Her face pressed against his stomach.
He stood still, honestly surprised, arms out away from his sides as the small girl hugged him. He stared down at her. He didn't want to do this. He didn't want to send her away on her own, she had clung to him her whole life. They had formed a special bond.
He let out an almost audible sigh, glancing around once more, before dropping his helmet and moving his arms down, placing his hands on the girl's shoulders, nudging her away gently. She reluctantly let go, looking down.
Kylo crouched down to her height, trying to meet her gaze, "You will be fine. This will not be the last we see each other. It may be months or years, but one day....you will be back." and with the last of the light left in him, he pulled his cousin to him, returning her hug from just seconds ago. "But don't expect me to be the same."
With that, he let go and slipped his helmet back on. He stood to his full height, "follow me."
Within minutes, they were at the docks, her ride just arriving. He nudged her forward as the door hissed and opened to reveal the inside of the ship.
A Storm Trooper stepped out of the ship and motioned her forward. She glanced back at Ren, a look of sadness, before turning forward and walking.
She walked until she reached the Trooper. "Skywalker?" he asked. J nodded, "This is my transport?" He nodded as well.
She kept walking at that, a feeling of nervousness flooding her. The Trooper followed behind her, and the door closed behind them.
J immediately went to a nearby window, seeing Kylo still standing where he was. She tilted her head slightly to the side, pressing her right hand onto the window.
"Bye Bye Ben."

TURN IT OFF — PART ONE
summary — in which a gemini wedding doesn’t go as planned
word count — somewhere around 2.5k
paring(s) — vampire!poe dameron x fem!witch!reader / rey x warlock!ben solo
warning(s) — angst, a wedding, blood
notes — heavily based off of jo and alaric satlzman’s wedding scene from the vampire diaries. also the solo twins are in this so ben and kylo are different people in this
The wedding of Ben Solo and Rey was an event you worked your ass off to plan. Even though you was a witch, a wedding was something you wanted to plan naturally. No magic involved. Being a Gemini witch, however, did have its perks but it have many more disadvantages.
You were not born a twin, however Ben was a twin. They weren't 22 yet, which meant they were safe. But when they do turn 22, Ben and his twin would have to do something called the Merge. It's when two Gemini twins merge their magic. It's a battle of will and power.
The strongest twin will absorb the other twin's magic while the weaker twin dies. Then the victorious twin will lead the Gemini coven until the next line of Gemini twins are born. Now, Ben's twin— Kylo Ren— was put into a prison world because Kylo killed his foster family.
He was a sociopath. And the Gemini's locked him away. Ben and Lysa lived their lives free of Kylo Ren's shadow. Ben met Rey through you and they fell in love. You also had your own fair share of love with Poe Dameron.
You exhaled quietly and rubbed your hands together nervously, looking at the altar you prepared. You were wearing your bridesmaid's dress since you were the maid of honor. The dress was a nice lavender color and nearly touched the floor.
"Hey," A voice said from behind you. You turned around and smiled, already knowing who the voice belonged to. "Hi," You replied. Poe Dameron walked up to you, "You look nervous."
"It's not even my wedding and I'm anxious," You joked, laughing softly. Poe sighed happily and moved a strand of your hair behind your ear, "It's beautiful. Almost as beautiful as you."
You scoffed, "Get your twentieth century pick up lines out of here," You smiled.
"Oh come on, that line would've killed in the 90's," Poe replied.
"It's not the 90's, babe," You countered. You and Poe leaned in for a kiss. Another voice shouted your name, making you and Poe pull away from each other. Ben Solo beamed happily and walked up to his cousin.
"Hey, Ben," You smiled, hugging him.
"It's beautiful. You outdone yourself," Ben replied, hugging you back. You shook her head and pulled away from Ben, "It was nothing."
"So," Ben asked, looking over Poe and you, "When are you two gonna seal the deal?"
"We can't," You said softly. You and Poe looked at each other sadly and then Ben frowned, "Right."He said, "I'm sorry I forgot. He's immortal. And you're not."
"Yeah..." Poe mumbled.
"But that doesn't mean we don't love each other," You said, trying to lighten the mood again. "Right, Poe?" You asked, looking up at him and grabbing his hand.
"Of course," Poe answered, interlocking his fingers with yours.
"I'm gonna go finish getting ready," Ben said, "It's good to see you both." You and Poe smiled and Ben left you two alone.
"We could still do it," You said once Ben was out of earshot. Poe shook his head, "I'm not letting you throw away your magic for me. You love being a witch."
"Yes, but I love you too," You replied, letting go of his hand and turning her body to face him. "And if being with you means I have to give up my magic... Then fine. I'll give up my magic."
"Can-Can we talk about this later?" Poe asked. You nodded in agreement, "Yeah... The-The wedding starts soon... So... I need to go find Rey and make she's ready."
"Hey," Poe said softly, "Just because I don't want to turn you doesn't mean I don't love you." You nodded, "I know. You're just thinking about what would happen after... And I understand. It's risky turning a Gemini witch."
"I love you," Poe said.
"I love you too," You replied. You backed away from Poe and walked down the hallway toward the dressing rooms. You opened the doors and saw Rose fixing Rey's hair.
"Hi," Rose said, looking over her shoulder. You smiled, "Hi." You moved next to Rey, "How you feeling?" You asked.
"Good. I feel fine," Rey replied.
"That's good." You said softly.
"What about you?" Rey asked, "Are you okay? You don't sound happy."
You shook her head and smiled, "It's nothing."
"No," Rose spoke up, "What wrong?"
"It's just... Me and Poe, I guess." You replied.
"Is everything okay between you two?" Rey asked, worried. You nodded again, "Yeah... We're fine. I think we're good."
"You sure?" Rey questioned, "You've been acting weird ever since you agreed to plan the wedding."
"It's just..." You shrugged, "I might not get to do this. So... If I can help my friends do this then... That's enough for me."
"Right," Rose nodded in understanding, "He's immortal and you're not." Rey sighed and turned around, causing Rose to drop her hands from Rey's hair.
"Is that why you're upset?" Rey asked, grabbing your hands. "Because you and Poe might not have the chance to live a normal life?"
"I want a life with him. I really do... But... Normal just seems weird when it comes to our current lives." You answered. You sighed and smiled weakly at Rey, "I'm happy for you."
"I know you're happy for me," Rey replied, "But I know right now you're not happy. Have you talked to Poe about this?"
You nodded, "Yeah... We've talked about it." You shook her head and pulled her hands away from Rey's. "You're getting married. We're not talking about my relationship until after you've said 'I do'." You said.
About an hour later and the wedding was about to start. The sun had gone down and the moon was just rising. You were talking to Poe while drinking a glass of champagne. You finished your glass and waited in the back for the music to start.
Ben was standing by the reverend in the front, waiting for the ceremony to start.
Everyone began finding their seats and you exhaled shakily. "You ready?" Poe asked, handing you a small bouquet of flowers. You nodded and took the flowers from his hands.
"Yeah. Let's do this." You replied. The music started playing and you and Poe hooked your arms together and walked down the aisle. You and Poe unhooked their arms and walked to opposite sides of the altar.
Finn and Rose walked out after them and then did the same thing you and Poe did. After a moment, Rey appeared in the doorway and walked down the aisle. She smiled at Ben as she got closer and he happily returned the favor.
Rey walked up the small flight of stairs and in front of Ben. They turned to each other. "Welcome family and friends on this magical evening," The reverend began. "To the wedding of Ben Solo and Rey. I believe Ben and Rey have prepared their own vows."
Rey turned to you and you stepped forward and took the bouquet of flowers from Rey's hand and backed up again. Rey and Ben grabbed each other's hands.
Ben cleared his throat, "Neither of us should be here right now. We've spent our live dodging fate... And beating the odds. But because we did... I got to meet you. The most beautiful, hilarious, and intimidatingly brilliant woman I have ever known. You've inspired me. You've shown me that happiness is actually something that I can have in my life."
You glanced past Rey and Ben and met eyes with Poe. You smiled at him and he smiled back. "And so," Ben pulled the ring out from his pocket, "I promise to be with you and love you and dodge fate with you..."
Ben picked up Rey's hand and slid the ring up her finger, "For the rest of our lives."
Rey smiled as a single tear rolled down her cheek. Ben beamed at her and Rey couldn't keep her smile back. "Rey?" The reverend asked.
"Oh God," Rey said, "That's gonna be tough to beat." Rey sighed softly and grabbed Ben's hands, "Here goes. You are—"
Suddenly the doors flew open, catching everyone's attention. Kylo Ren stepped into the room and looked around.
"Oh my God," You whispered shakily.
"How are you here!?" Anakin Skywalker shouted, standing up.
"It took my forever, but I finally escaped your prison world," Kylo said.
Ben put a protective arm out toward Rey. "I was gonna wait until the 'till death do us part' bit, but... Seemed a little on the nose." Kylo added.
"Anyways, you all should watch what you put in your drinks. You don't know who could link all the Gemini's together." Kylo pulled out a knife and stabbed his hand. You exclaimed in pain, as did all the other Gemini's in the room.
You looked down at her hand and saw blood coming from her palm, although there was no wound, the pain felt too real. Ben winced and Rey looked at Kylo then Ben fearfully.
"What are you doing?" Katnina Arami asked.
"Isn't it obvious?" Kylo asked, "I'm killing you all." Kylo raised his hand and a loud ringing echoed in everyone's head causing them to scream in pain. Nearly half of the people in the room passed out from the pain. Kylo jerked his hand, causing the window to shatter inwards.
Kylo turned the knife on himself and stabbed himself in the heart. You screamed in pain, as did Ben along with the Gemini's in the room. "No!" Poe shouted. He used his vampire speed to get to you before your body hit the floor.
"Oh my God!" Rose shouted.
"Ben!" Rey yelled.
Poe bit into his wrist and held the open wound to your lips, "Come on, drink it. Come on..." Poe mumbled. You slowly grabbed Poe's wrist and pulled it closer to your mouth, drinking a couple drops of his blood to try and heal you.
Rose rushed down to Ben and Rey and tried to stop the bleeding from Ben's chest. "Why isn't she healing?!" Poe asked, turned to look at Rose.
"I think their lives are linked to Kylo's. Whatever happens to him happens to her and them..." Rose explained, crying softly. "I don't know what to do... I'm sorry."
Poe looked back down at you, "No, no, no, no. You're not dying." Poe said softly, "Not like this."
You coughed up some blood and cried in pain. "It's okay, I'm here," Poe said. Finn hurried to Poe and you as best as he could.
"It's..." You whispered, "It's okay..."
Poe brought you closer to him, "You're not dying like this," He said softly. You slowly moved her hand on top of his, "It's okay..." You managed to say softly, "I love you..."
"I love you too..." Poe replied, moving your hair from your face, "I love you too..." Poe could hear your heartbeat slowing down by the second.
"Ben..." Rey cried, her hands on either side of his face. "I'm sorry..." Ben whispered weakly. You exhaled softly and her hand fell from Poe's and onto the ground. Ben's head turned to the side and he closed his eyes.
"No!!" Rey screamed. Rose wrapped her arms around Rey in a comforting hug.
"Hey..." Finn spoke softly to Poe. Poe shook his head and lifted you up to him, he cried into your shoulder. Finn put a comforting hand on Poe's shoulder while also trying not to cry himself.
Poe pulled away from your corpse and looked around at the damage. There were dead bodies scattered around and glass littered on the floor. Then, you gasped for air and Poe looked down.
Finn, Rose, and Rey turned their heads in confusion. You coughed and groaned in pain.
"Holy crap..." Finn whispered.
"How are you here?" Poe asked softly, cupping the side of your jaw. You winced in pain and Poe saw a glimpse of what looked like vampire fangs.
Then he remembered you died with his blood in your system. "You need human blood." Poe said softly.
"Poe, what just happened?" Rose asked.
"She died with my blood in her system. She's in transition. She needs human blood." Poe said. Rose turned around and offered up her bloody hand, "Here."
Poe gently grabbed Rose's hand and led it to you. You looked at Rose's hand, smelling the blood on it. "It's okay. You need this to survive." Poe coaxed.
You took Rose's hand and licked a stripe of blood on the side of her thumb. Rose pulled her hand away and your eyes turned red and grey veins ran down from the bottom of your eyes.
"Poe?" You asked softly.
Poe helped you sit up. You looked around and barely remembered what happened before you died. You thought this was all a nightmare and you would wake up soon.
"What... What happened?" You asked.
But you were wrong.
"I'm sorry." Poe began, "Kylo came and he... He killed the entire Gemini coven by linking them together with some linking spell."
You shook her head in disbelief. You couldn't believe it. Your family was dead? Your witch coven was dead? Killed by someone you thought they handled a long time ago?
"No..." You shook her head, "No, no, no. You're..." You wanted to say 'lying' but you knew they were telling the truth.
"I'm so sorry, baby..." Poe said softly. Then Poe remembered what it's like being a newly turned vampire. "Hey," Poe said, gently grabbing the sides of your face, making you look at him.
"Listen to me, every emotion you're feeling right now it's heightened. It's bad, I know. You're feeling a lot of pain, right?" Poe asked. Now that he mentioned it, you did feel a lot of pain.
Your chest hurt, physically and metaphorically. Physically from being magically stabbed and metaphorically from your heart aching from losing your family.
Your mouth hurt. It was probably the vampire fangs growing in but damn did it hurt.
What you couldn't feel was your magic. It was the one thing you would have to give up to become a vampire. Your magic. You couldn't be a witch and a vampire at the same time. "But, you're gonna get through it, okay?" Poe added.
You had no idea what to do. You wanted to scream and cry. You wanted revenge. But the person that killed you and the Gemini's was already dead. You needed someone to blame. You thought it'd be easier to blame someone.
But you couldn't find anyone to blame. You pulled away from Poe and turned toward the ruins. You stood up on wobbly legs and Poe helped you stand on your own.
Behind you, Rose, and Finn stood up on their feet and watched the two vampires while Rey stayed by Ben's body. You took a couple steps forward before you turned back around.
"Why did this happen?" You asked, tears falling from your eyes.
"I don't know," Poe replied.
"They're all dead." You said, "My coven... My family. What am I supposed to do now?" You asked.
"I don't know what to do," You continued, "How am I supposed to— They were... I-I can't... I don't know how to..." You trailed off.
You began sobbing as you fell to your knees, overwhelmed with all kinds of emotions. Poe rushed to you and hugged you, bringing you close to him which allowed you to cry into his chest.
"I know... I'm sorry..." Poe whispered, stroking your hair.

It was all over. We had just been told that our message had been sent out to any remaining allies, but no one was responding. We had all hoped that someone would answer our pleas of help but I guess all hope was now lost.
"That's it then. The end of it all, the spark has faded, the galaxy has lost all of its hope". My aunt Leia stated solemnly as she sat down and leaned against her crutch. I walked up to her and took her hand in mine and leaned my head against her shoulder trying to hold back my tears. Suddenly I felt a presence nearby. I looked up and saw a hooded figure coming towards Aunt Leia and me. The hooded figure stood in front of us and revealed himself and I just stared in utter shock, it was my father.
Luke Skywalker.
"Luke" said my aunt softly. He gave a weak smile and knelt down beside us and before he could say anything my aunt interrupted him "I know what you're gonna say, I changed my hair".
"It looks good". Said my father. The two of them smiled at each other then dad continued solemnly, "I'm so sorry Leia, I can't bring him back".
"I know. I've been blinding myself hoping that there was still goodness in him, which only blinded me from the truth. My son is gone, forever".
"No one's ever really gone". Said my father. He then placed in my aunt's hand a golden strand dice that once hung from the Millennium Falcon. He then placed his forehead against his younger twin's and kissed it before turning his attention to me. "Come here kid".
I then flung myself at him and softly cried into his chest. I hadn't seen my father since the temple was destroyed when I was very young and on that day after almost losing me, he sent me to live with my Aunt Leia where I had been helping the resistance while he was away in hiding blaming himself for what he had done.
"I've missed you so much father".
"And I've missed you my little Starlight". He separated from me and cupped my face in his hands and from then on we were talking through our force bond telepathically.
I looked at him in horror and tears weld up in my eyes but my father looked at me with stern eyes telling me that he wasn't going to change his mind, this needed to be done and this was the only way to do it. I closed my eyes and lowered my head as tears fell down my face.
Like he did to my aunt, my father placed his forehead against mine and kissed my forehead but he lingered there for a moment before finally separating from me and walked towards 3PO who said.
"Master Luke". My dad winked at him before walking out of the base.
As we all gathered at the exit to see my father stand before the First Order army, I stood by Finn and Poe and Finn said.
"Is—is that....."
"Yeah Finn it's him. Luke Skywalker, (y/n)'s father". Poe said. He looked down to me and wrapped an arm around me and rubbed my shoulder comfortingly.
You see when my father first dropped me under my aunt and uncle's protection, of course Uncle Han left and in his grief of failing Ben, he went back to smuggling and we never really saw him until just a few months ago at Maz's home planet. And my aunt Leia became invested in being the General for the Resistance to distract her from her grief.
Of course she never neglected me no never, but I was always alone and depressed after that and only at just 7 years old. It wasn't until I accidentally bumped into rookie pilot at the time, Poe Dameron. At first I was afraid he would get mad for bumping into him like most of the rookies were at the time, but he helped me up and asked me if I was the one that was okay.
As time went on, Poe became like the Big brother I never had, he was the one who taught me how to pilot my first X-wing at 9 years old. Whenever he wasn't busy with missions for my aunt, he'd always take the time to hang around me and be the male figure I needed in my life.
We then saw all the AT-AT's firing every single gun they had at my father. I turned away as Poe brought me close to him to further avert my eyes from seeing anymore until the firing stopped and when the dust cleared my dad still stood strong with not a scratch on him as he dusted his shoulder off.
Poe then took out his binoculars and he then said to us.
"It's Kylo Ren, he's coming out alone".
"We need to help him" stated Finn.
"No we don't" Poe said.
"What are you talking about he's out numbered we've gotta have something that can help him...."
"No Finn!" I exclaimed. The two of them looked at me and I continued, "This is something my father needs to do alone, he knows what the outcome of this fight will be, and he's willing to take it. While we make our escape". I lowered my head as I remembered our force bond conversation from earlier
*Flashback time*
'When Ben and I begin our duel, you and the others need to get out of here'.
'What? But what about you?'
'I think you know the answer to that sweetheart'. I stared at him and my eyes widened with horror as I begged him.
'No. No! No daddy I just got you back please you can't! You can't die! Please there has to be another way!'
'There's not. You feel it as I do that I need to finish what I started. You and Rey are now the last Jedi, complete the mission that I cannot anymore, reconnect with the Force. Revive the Rebellion, and bring balance to the Galaxy'. Tears slipped down my face as I begged to him.
'Please don't leave me again'.
'Never. I'll never leave you again. I will always be there for you, just like your mother and your Uncle Han'. He stroked my cheek and said to me one last time, 'I love you my little Starlight'.
*End of Flashback*
"My dad is buying us time to make our escape, we must take it now so that his last stand won't be in vain". Everyone just stared at me in silence before Poe said.
"She's right. We are the spark that'll light the fire that'll burn the First Order down. Now there's gotta be another way out of here".
"But sir there are an infinite amount of tunnels the probability of finding the exact one are....." At that point I toned 3PO out as Poe began to shush him until it was completely silent.
"Where did the fox creatures go?" At that moment we noticed that the entire base was clear of the creatures we shared shelter with. But we soon heard one of them up ahead who barked at us and ran off.
"He wants to lead us out of here!" I exclaimed. Everyone then turned to Leia and she said.
"What are you all staring at me for? Follow him". She gestured to Poe. We then followed Poe's lead as he tracked down the fox who lead us further into the cave but we soon came across an exit point that was completely sealed with thousands of giant boulders. The fox stood on top of one of them and managed to squeeze through the only exit point big enough for him alone.
"No! No! No!" exclaimed Poe. We were trapped. Cornered like rats with no chance of escaping. Even if we all tried to clear it up, the First Order would find us long before we could even clear this path and slaughter us all.
"Wait (y/n) you trained as a Jedi right? Can't you move these rocks?" asked Finn.
"I haven't been able to use the Force since the day my cousin burned down the temple, plus I was and still am a beginner. There's no way I can do this".
"Just try (y/n)" my aunt Leia said. I looked at her worriedly but she looked at me with 100% confidence. I turned towards the boulders and rocks and closed my eyes and began my breathing.
Slow and steady, relaxed and clear mind. I raised my hand and tried to reach out with the Force. But due to the fact I haven't been strongly connected with it to begin with and that I haven't continued my training, all I could was create an even bigger rock slide.
Everyone backed away as some of the rock began falling towards us then all was quiet once again. Exhausted and now on my knees I panted as tears filled my eyes.
"I can't—I can't do it I'm sorry! I'm sorry".
"It's okay kiddo, you tried your best". I heard Poe say as he knelt down beside me and placed his hands on my shoulders comfortingly. Suddenly the rocks began moving again but this time they moved outwards and were levitating through the air.
I felt a strong Force connection just ahead and as we all ran out of the base, there stood Rey with her hand extended using the Force to free us all. Finn and Rey ran up to each other and hugged one another missing each other then she led us to the Falcon that was parked just up the hill.
As we all boarded the Falcon, I stopped in my tracks as I felt something. Like a piece of my heart was torn away but at the same time there was peace and no more suffering. In that moment I knew and I could tell from Rey's face, she felt it too.
My father, Luke Skywalker was gone.
We were the last ones to board the Falcon and as we stood there, I soon saw my former cousin Ben Solo standing there at the base and he turned and saw both me and Rey. She and I glared at him as she pressed the button to seal the door and soon we left Crait.
Once we were all free and safe from the First Order, I sat beside my aunt Leia and I could tell by her face that she knew what happened to my father as well. I leaned up against her and she wrapped an arm around me as Rey came up to us and she said.
"He's gone".
"We know" my aunt said.
"But it wasn't—there wasn't any suffering there was....peace".
"Yeah that's my dad for yah". I stated. She looked at me and she started apologizing but I stopped her before she could say anything, "I know my father better than anyone else. He does things for the greater good, and stubbornness runs in his blood whenever he thinks it's for the best and won't say a word about it to anyone. I'm glad you found him Rey, and thank you for bringing him back to me, even if it was just through the Force". Rey smiled then she said.
"Oh I almost forgot, your father wanted me to give you this. He gave it to me as soon as my training began, told me to tell you to read the note when you're alone". I looked to my aunt Leia and nodded at me to go and soon I was walking along the hallways of the Falcon until I reached a private wing and sat down and took the note that was taped onto the wrapping package. I opened the note and it read.
My only child (y/n),
I know these last few years had been hard on you. Your mother gone and I'm not being there to raise you and protect you like that father I once was to you. I can't tell you how many days go by that I don't regret letting you go.
I was only thinking of your safety, your well-being and thought it would be best if you were with the real heroes of the Resistance than a failure of a not only as a Jedi Master but a failure as a Father.
Enclosed I leave you one last gift. Now depending on big you are when you get this it may have to wait a few more years but I'd entrust this gift to only one person and that is you, my daughter.
Make me proud and become a far Greater Jedi than I ever could. And know that I will always be with you, for I am now One with the Force and the Force is once again with me.
Your father,
Luke.
I set the note down and unwrapped the paper to reveal a shocking discovery. My father's lightsaber that he himself constructed after he lost his father's during the battle of Cloud City before he went to rescue Uncle Han from Jabba the Hut on his home planet of Tatooine.
I held it in my hands and ignited it revealing its green glow. I smiled and pressed on the button again deactivating it and I said out loud.
"Thank you Father, I'll make you proud". As I walked back to join the others I could hear my father's voice say.
'I always am'.

Ben so-Williams? is the Disneyland Kylo- Disneyland actor! ben x reader -p1
you work at galaxies edge, you have a crush on the Kylo actor, what's awesome about that? he looks and sounds exactly like Adam driver, and! his name is ben.
You sighed, gripping onto your backpack nervously and stepping into the cast member locker rooms.
You looked around, smiling as you spotted your cousin Alex (I’m using my cousin's name deal with it!), who was getting into her work shoes.
“Axe!” she looked up, her long dark hair getting in her face, breaking out into a smile as she saw you
“(y/n)!!” she yelled, standing and bolting over to you, crushing you with a hug “you’re here!!” you laughed, rubbing your head into hers, grinning as you pulled away.
“so first day after training! How excited are you!?” you bounced in place, hardly able to stay still.
“Super, I’ve always dreamed of working here, and now I also get to work at star wars land!” Alex giggled.
“Well, say hi to Ben for me when you get there” you snorted, rolling your eyes.
“Ben Solo?”
Alex grinned like a cat “nope, Ben Williams, he’s the Kylo actor, straight up looks and sounds exactly like Adam driver, there’s even a betting pool saying that he’s his long lost twin”
You snickered “how old is he?”
“24” Alex said, turning to walk back over to her locker and placing her backpack in.
“Then he couldn’t possibly be his twin, Adam driver is older” you reasoned, Alex nodding along with you.
“That’s why I say he’s his younger brother who was given up for adoption” you groaned, pushing her shoulder.
“Whatever, I need to get ready to clock in”
“Alright see ya!”
You turned, glancing down at your phone you had 10 minutes before you needed to clock in.
You looked up, slamming into a black brick wall.
“oof!” you fell back, almost falling to the floor before a strong arm wrapped around you waist and caught you. “shit thanks ma-“
You looked up, Kylo Rens mask looking back at you, it was tilted slightly, the actor lifted you back up, setting you on your feet.
“you okay?” a quiet deep voice came from within the mask.
“uh-uh ye-yeah, I’m good thank you, sorry about that” you stuttered, brushing a stray hair back.
“shit I gotta go clock in, thanks again!” you pushed past him, hurrying to your locker.
The Kylo actor turned slowly, tilting his head as he watched you run away.
“cute” he mumbled, shifting his helmet and following the first order officer actor to get ready to walk around his land.

Biting Dust - ch.4
Life ain’t too easy for a woman, ‘specially not a woman on the run like you. With a bounty on your head and gunpowder in your nose, you’ve grown adjusted to a life of solitude away from the hustle and bustle of civilization. That is, until you meet one particular man who’s got a face you’d only ever seen in your dreams – or on wanted posters. And when he offers you a proposition that sounds too good to be true, well. You don’t think your life will ever be the same again…
Outlaw!Kylo Ren x Reader
Tumblr Masterlist | Available on AO3
7k; cw Graphic descriptions of violence/gun violence/blood & injury
-----------------------
There’s a distinct energy in the air, gettin’ on up in the morning. Still surprised he ain’t shoot you dead yet, you give Kylo nothing more than a nod of acknowledgment, before goin’ about your business, wadin’ ankle-deep into the water. The water, crystalline and deep, light sparkling off the meandering currents like diamonds, you’re reminded of the way Kylo looked, when he was lookin’ at you.
Shaking your head, you sigh. Whatever had happened yesterday had happened, and it was in the past. Had you dreamed about it? About him? Had your visions been plagued with the look on his face as he came across your stomach? As he nearly sobbed for you, lickin’ at your pulse like some wild thing?
Of course.
Of course, but as much as you wanted to ride on that high of victory, that first test, that first challenge of trust, you knew that his turn would be a’comin’ real soon. You tip your face up to the sky, let the crisp blue of Arizona shine down on your closed eyes, seepin’ up the warmth.
You splash the sleep out of your face, and if Kylo’s watchin’ you real careful like, if somethin’s on his mind, he’s got the smarts to keep it to himself.
It’s silent, for a good part of the ride. Y’all had skipped breakfast, forgoin’ the previous day’s precedent of boiled coffee and a cigarette, instead wanting to keep moving. Always on the move, you were. It wasn’t always that way, but well, that’d been the way for so damn long now, that the time before feels like a dream. Feels like someone else’s memories playin’ in your head.
If only that was the case, you think dryly.
Kylo’s contemplative on his horse, for a real long while. You wonder what he might be thinkin’ about, if he’s thinkin’ about you. You had tried wakin’ up before him today, but it was to no avail. Did the man ever sleep? Surely he must’ve, he was only human after all. You catch his eye awkwardly, the both of y’all looking at each other and then looking away, embarrassed at bein’ caught.
It would seem as though that mutual embarrassment was Kylo’s sign to say something finally, breaking whatever tense mood this had become.
“So Cousin,” Kylo’s voice shocks you for some reason, almost like you had forgotten how deep it was, almost like you’d forgotten that another person could speak so clearly, so confidently to you. “What’s your name?”
He’s referring to the cover story, of course. You remember the way he so sharply denied answering for his age – or maybe was it bein’ a brother that he objected to? Either way, the venom that had stung still lingers in the back of your mind, so you find it best not to press the subject, and answer with the moniker you’ve come to use;
“Mary Elizabeth Sampson.” The words just sound right, rollin’ off the tongue. It was a normal name, nothin’ so outlandish like Angel Eyes. No, Miss Mary Elizabeth Sampson was a proper name, could be found in just about any school house – you immediately cut that train of thought off, instead deflecting, “What’s yours?”
“Benjamin Whitlocke.” Kylo tips his hat, and gives you a real cheeky smile, the kind that shows off his dimples and them crooked teeth as he winks, “But you can call me Benji.”
Sonofabitch is charming, you’ll give him that.
The ease at which Kylo spills the name from his lips relieves you. He was just like you, wasn’t he? On the run and undercover in more ways than one, always another name, another identity in his back pocket. Not that anyone would believe him if he went around introducin’ himself as Kylo Ren – that man was a legend.
This man is…well.
He’s charming.
You commit the name to memory, not that anyone is likely to ask. Folks tended to not ask about things like that, things like the who the when where why how, usually only the what. Still, it’s good to know, good to make sure y’all are on the same page, so you don’t go gettin’ yourselves shot on accident.
“Alright Benji, where’re we from?” You keep your face turned towards the horizon, towards the little town that you’ll be passin’ through. It’s coming up, just out there, just around the canyons. “And where’re goin’?”
“Genoa, Nevada. Right near the Carson River Valley, just shy of Reno.” Kylo’s quick with this one too, and you accept it as an acceptable answer. You had no problem adopting his story, somethin’ about it made you feel more at ease. You could trust yourself to not fuck it up – but trustin’ someone else? Not likely. Especially when Kylo gives you a glance with his good eye and asks, “And well, best to tell the truth ain’t it? Colorado?”
You had told that kind woman back at the inn that you’d be headin’ to Colorado, it didn’t seem worth it to lie once you’ve already told the truth. The truth is easy, don’t got nothin’ to hide if you’re tellin’ the truth.
“Sure is.” You eventually respond. When you ask the next question, you ain’t askin’ for any other reason than your own edification, “What’s the name of this lil’ town you’re sayin’ we’re comin’ up on?”
Kylo shrugs at that, and you shoot him a dirty glare. Immediately he puts his hands up to prevent you from throwin’ a fit about not knowin’ where the hell he’s taking you.
“Well I ain’t so sure what they call themselves on the map, but everyone I ever spoke to only knows it as Ragrock.” He explains, and you sigh, not likin’ that answer one bit.
“Ain’t never heard of Ragrock, are you sure it’ll be there?” You don’t recall such a name bein’ written on that map you’d taken, as a matter of fact you don’t recall a town bein’ out here this way anyway.
Don’t jump to conclusions, you think, as your finger itches for the trigger of your six-shooter that you’ve got right on your hip. Don’t jump, he could be telling the truth, he hasn’t done you wrong yet.
“I’m sure. It’s mighty small but it’s got what we need.” Kylo speaks confidently, making you raise an eyebrow at him.
“Oh yeah? And what exactly is it that we need?”
“Well now I don’t know about you, but I sure would like to stock up on some essential supplies,” Kylo licks across his teeth, breath still sour from morning. “Namely bullets. Some food and a good drink too while we’re at it, but mostly bullets.”
“How much shootin’ have you been doin’ to be fresh out?” You frown, and he rolls his eyes. For a second there, you think he’s about to laugh, but the most you get is a sharp huff out of his nose.
“Angel I’m never fresh out, believe me.” Patting his hip, you hear the telltale jangle of rounds secured to his belt. “I just don’t like gettin’ low, that’s all. And besides, I have a feelin’ we’re gonna need ‘em. We’ll keep a low profile and all, but Ragrock has a habit of bein’ a bitch sometimes.”
“Yesterday you said there were only three public buildings.” You point out, how much of a bitch could a small town like that be?
“I sure did.” He misses the point, “Bar, drug store, and jail.”
“Damn.” The word is out of your mouth before you even think it, and you immediately kick yourself.
Kylo does smile then, gives you a big knowing smile, and something about it soothes you just as much as it unnerves you. You had been half-jokin’ when you told him your name was Angel Eyes, and you had hoped he’d be inclined to accept it as a joke. No one had ever seen you, your face was never done right on the wanted posters, to him you had hoped you were just another woman out in the west.
But when he smiles at you like that, it makes you think he knows.
“Closest bank’s not gonna be until we cross over the border into Utah.” Kylo says real quiet, and you give yourself away by snappin’ your teeth shut, shootin’ him the dirtiest look you can muster.
“What do I care about banks for?” You’re too defensive, and you know that, but dammit you’re defensive anyway – especially because you are Angel Eyes and what if he’s a bounty hunter of some kind? What if he poses as Kylo Ren to get close to outlaws just like you and rake in the big bucks? What if -- ?
“Didn’t say that you did,” Kylo shrugs again, “Was just makin’ conversation is all. Anyway, we won’t be needin’ to worry about banks for a little while. I’ve got enough money on me.”
You have half a mind to halt Agnes right then and there, surprise taking the place of any paranoia.
“You do?” Frowning, you watch as he rifles through a little purse that he pulls out of a small pocket in his waistcoat.
“Yep.” He shows you, lets you peer inside at the many bills folded neatly together, “Just about a hundred dollars between it all.”
You do stop Agnes then, halting her reins sharply in a way that makes her whinny in protest. Kylo stops Sam too, already confused about what he did wrong, about why you might be angry with him. That only makes you a little angrier.
“Where the fuck did you get that kind of money?” You demand, wondering why the hell he hadn’t said something before, why he had so little on his person if he had the money to afford better.
“Does it matter?” Kylo shrugs and you sigh with an exasperated roll of your eyes.
“Yeah it sure as shit matters! We can’t go ridin’ into a small town with that much money lookin’ like we do. They’ll suspect us straight off.” You groan.
You’re in your riding clothes once again, but you know that even when you change into your blue dress, neither of you will look rich enough to be carrying around one-hundred dollars. That was a very special class of person, a class of person neither of y’all happen to be. Anyone who saw would immediately peg y’all as thieves.
“Well it ain’t like I’m gonna walk in and flash some bills in everyone’s face.” Kylo mutters, expression souring, “Maybe I’m a gambler and got lucky over a deck of cards, they don’t need to know where it came from.”
The thought fills you with panic, with dread.
“Are you?” You’re askin’ before you even know that you’re doing it, voice gone hoarse from the memory of a long time ago, the memory of a poker table endin’ badly, the memory of a card game lost, fire and screaming and --
“No.” Kylo answers with enough passion and angry heat that you think maybe he’s got some bad memories too. You and Kylo stare real hard at one another, and eventually he puts the purse back in his little pocket and says real soft, “My daddy was, and that’s enough for me to never want to bet so much as a dime.”
As much as you hate admittin’ it – and though you’d never say it to his face – you find yourself likin’ Kylo a little bit more now. He nudges Sam with the heel of his boot, thinking that now that this face off has met its end, you can continue down towards the town.
-----------------------
Squinting against the rippling heat waves of the summer sun, you notice that the town’s buildings are starting to appear as small pricks on the horizon, way out in the distance, shimmering like a mirage. Now’s as good a time as any, you figure, because if you get any closer they might send scouts to come investigate, and you’re not in any mood for an investigation.
“Hold on.” You say, and Kylo stops immediately. Sam huffs out a little chuff of annoyance, but Kylo ignores her.
“What’s the matter?” He’s got a sharp edge to his voice, his good eye immediately scanning around and around for danger.
“Ain’t nothin’ the matter, I just have to change, that’s all.” You explain, and it’s almost funny the way that Kylo’s shoulders drop, tension saggin’ away from them.
You hop off of Agnes altogether. Looking around, you realize very quickly that there’s nothing to change behind, nothing to give you cover. But then you wonder if it really matters, Kylo’s already seen you naked after all. You wonder if he’ll want to look again, if he’ll get his eyeful of you the way he had yesterday, but you find that as you start undressing, he’s got his eye trained just off to your right, respectful.
“Into that blue dress of yours, right?” He clears his throat, busying himself by fiddling with some tobacco and a piece of paper, rollin’ up a cigarette.
“One of us has to look civilized.” You tease him, “Make yourself useful and keep a lookout.”
He does something then, that makes you wonder just what the hell he’s playin’ at. Kylo guides Sam to come stand beside you, effectively sandwiching you between your horse and his, creatin’ a barrier from the outside world, a shield of sorts. You never would have expected such gentlemanly behavior from him – from anyone.
But here he is, protectin’ you from the hungry gaze of the sun and the sand, as you step out of the calf-tall boots you wear, unsnap the buckles of your suspenders which hold up the worn linen trousers that once were a rich black, but now have sun-bleached to an off-blue grey. You unbutton your shirt, long sleeves slippin’ off your arms and exposing your skin to the harsh rays of the sun for a few moments, and all the while, Kylo doesn’t look.
You’re wearin’ nothin’ but your corset and smock, and he doesn’t look.
“You know, when we cross into Utah, we’ll have to pass through Ruby City.” Kylo says instead of starin’ at your body, instead of tryin’ to get a glimpse. “That there’s a proper city, has a train station runnin’ through it and everything. It’s got all sorts of stores and things like that. Maybe you could let me buy you a new dress, let that blue one retire for a while.”
Switching your corset from the sturdy riding support-piece that you wear for something more fashionably structured, still he doesn’t look. The smock sits nicely off your shoulders, your decolletage and cleavage on full display as you snap the hooks and eyes of the corset into place, steppin’ into the petticoat that you’d just cleaned by the river.
“No.” You say easily, echoin’ a sentiment you’d give him before, “I don’t need you doin’ anything for me, I told you already – ”
You struggle for a minute, pullin’ the dress over your head. When it’s freshly washed like this sometimes it was a little stiff from dryin’ in the sun, and you have to wriggle it around to get it to sit properly.
“Well what if it ain’t a need but a want to do it?” Kylo’s hands startle you for a minute, as he leans down and helps set the seam of the yoke on your shoulders properly, “A gift from me to you.”
You tense up immediately, and he drops his hands, not wanting to offend or upset you.
“Ain’t never been a man who gives a gift without expectin’ somethin’ in return.” You reply quietly, a resolute shake of your head.
He’s quiet about that for a while, watching you now that you’re all covered up, watching as you do up all those buttons on your front, as you step into boots that are a little more lady-like, even though you despise that term.
He watches as you trade your wide brimmed hat for a bonnet, hair tucked neatly away instead of the way you usually let it be exposed and free.
“I’m not like them,” Kylo appraises you, fixes your bonnet a little so it ain’t crooked as you tie the ribbon underneath your chin, “Whoever it is that done hurt you so bad.”
“I don’t know that.” You point out, swingin’ your leg up over Agnes’ sadle and rollin’ the stiff joints of your shoulders. Your tone is light, not wantin’ to get into too much heavy right before headin’ into the town, “For all I know, you could be worse.”
“I’ll prove it to you, you’ll see.” Kylo smiles, and you almost want to accept that as a challenge, almost want to dare him, just to see if he would.
-----------------------
Kylo wasn’t lying when he said the town was small. There it was, the single street town, in all its glory. Looking to the left, you can see the way the canyons split and wind alongside the river, houses and homesteads and farms dottin’ the red red earth. Looking to the right, you can see more houses still, but farther apart, nothin’ but cacti and tumbleweeds between them.
Along this single road are actually five buildings; the drugstore and a jail to the left, the saloon and a big fancy house to the right, and a church right down at the end of the road. Well, it wasn’t so much a road as it was a dirt path, but still. And because of how little there was, it was all spread out, takin’ up as much space as possible.
No one was around, but if all the noise from the saloon were anythin’ to go by, you’d reckon that the entire town of Ragrock had gathered there.
Given the placement of the sun up in the powder blue sky, it was fixin’ to be about lunchtime. And considerin’ neither you nor Kylo had had anythin’ to eat today, you’re just glad that the ovens would hopefully be workin’, and that you might use some of Kylo’s money for somethin’ hot and fresh.
“I’m going to pick up some things from the pharmacy, why don’t you go get us a table?” Kylo’s thinkin’ the same thing, and you shoot him a wary eyebrow.
“Do you think they’ll let me in?” You knew that in most places, women weren’t actually allowed inside saloons unless they were whores or ‘Shady Ladies’. And while you were certainly a Shady Lady, you didn’t need nobody knowin’ that.
“In a town this small, impropriety extends to the womenfolk, no need for worry.” Kylo waves your concern off, and you wonder whether to believe him or not.
“What’ll you have to drink?” You decide on takin’ him at face value, it hadn’t steered you wrong yet. Kylo lets out a little laugh at the question, and you roll your eyes, hatin’ how damn cocky he gets when he gets his way.
“Doubt there’ll be much of a choice, but if rum’s on the menu, you sign me up for a glass of that.” He licks across his teeth again, and you part ways for the time being.
There’s only one place to hitch the horses, and that’s damn near the other end of the town by the church. Must not be Sunday, you figure, since the building is empty. Keeping track of the days of the week was somethin’ that had been gettin’ harder and harder, and usually it was only times like these when you’re in a town, that you’re able to figure out when the hell on the calendar you are.
Bein’ that it ain’t Sunday, your earlier suspicion is correct – everyone in the town is in this saloon. From the town elders to the children, boys and girls alike, everyone’s gathered together in the shade of the big wooden building. It’s only one story you notice, which means that there ain’t an inn or a place to sleep above it, which could pose somethin’ of a problem for you. You resolve to get chummy with the boss and see if he can’t suggest somewhere that you and Kylo might be able to rest your heads later on in the evening when the time comes.
The bar is nearly full up with customers laughin’ and talkin’ to one another, card game tables are set up on the floor, some folks winnin’ and some folks losing. There’s a three-person band up against the wall, a pianist a harmonica player, and a fiddle player, and the music instantly lets you know that this is an Irish town.
No rum then, sorry Kylo, you think with a bit of apprehension as you step foot through the swingin’ café doors. Unlike the saloon in the other town, no one pays you a lick of attention here. It ain’t until you make your way up to the bar as a matter of fact, that you start gettin’ eyes.
“Well hell-llo there honey.” A large portly man with a great big gold tooth right in the middle of his face gives you the once-over, “Are you lost?”
Your eye twitches ever so slightly at the petname, but you put on a cool face and bat your lashes, knowin’ just how to play this particular game.
“No sir, my cousin and I are just passin’ through.” You explain, lookin’ for someone who works there, “Might there be a spot open for us to have a drink and crust of bread?”
“For a face like that, you bet your ass there is.” The bartender, a man with slim sharp features stands up from wherever he was crouchin’ behind the bar counter. He wipes the counter with a fresh cloth before slingin’ the thing over his shoulder.
The bartender puts a plate of food in front of you, some buttered bread and nuts that you happily crunch down.
“Watch your fuckin’ mouth, that there’s a lady.” The portly man with the gold tooth points a finger in the bartender’s direction, makin’ you chuckle.
“Naw it’s alright, I ain’t so proper that a couple cuss words will do me any offense.” You wink at him, watchin’ as he gets off his stool at the bar, and offers it to you.
You sit on the stool in his place, and he leans up against his elbow on the counter. You try not to wrinkle your nose at how bad his breath smells, keepin’ up that pleasant smile.
“I’m Amos, why don’t you let me buy you a drink?” He asks, and your eyes flick to the doors with hesitation.
“That’d be mighty kind of you, thank you Amos.” Knowing to never ever refuse a drink or else risk gettin’ branded as disrespectful, you chew on your lip, “Although, I should probably wait for my cousin. He’s just over yonder at the drug store, but he’ll be right back when he’s done.”
“Well when he comes on in I’ll buy him a drink too!” Amos lets out a hearty laugh, slaps a couple coins down on the counter.
“I speak for the both of us when I say we appreciate the generosity immensely.” You smile, wondering what the fuck is taking Kylo so long.
“What’ll you have?” The bartender accepts the coins, pulls a big glass out from behind the counter and gestures to the three different barrel taps he’s got on hand.
“I ain’t picky.” You shake your head, not wantin’ to be fussy.
You’d had a taste of just about every kind of alcohol there was, from Pabst and Budweiser to home-distilled ‘shine. There wasn’t nothin’ you couldn’t swallow, even if you did prefer water above all else. The bartender fills up the glass with the frothy gold of some home brew, and knowin’ the norms, knowin’ how it’d be a sign of weakness to sip your drink, you throw back a big gulp, wipin’ a droplet or two away from your chin with the back of your hand, much to the cheers and applause around you.
“Damn! A woman who can hold her liquor deserves it, don’t you think, ‘Tidge?” Amos slaps the bar top, regardin’ you with another hearty chuckle.
“I sure do.” The bartender, ‘Tidge, gives you a freckled smile.
You look over your shoulder once again, and still no sign of Kylo.
Well, you think to yourself, if he’s going to take his sweet fuckin’ time, then you might as well get comfortable. Besides, couldn’t hurt to get on the town’s sweet side, in case you ever need to come moseying back through this way.
“I like that name, is it short for somethin’?” You turn your attention back towards the bartender, admiring his features.
He’s handsome, in a gangly sort of way. Those cheekbones could cut a man from how sharp they were, everything about him angular and severe, right down to his eyes, a swirling blue-green-grey that you couldn’t quite place. And then of course his hair, a bright orange with more yellow than red in it, you’re sure you’d be able to spot this man from just about anywhere in the town – maybe that’s why he was bartender.
“Armitage, but ain’t nobody calls me that unless I’m in trouble for somethin’, ya see.” He winks at you, his accent lilting and even as he wipes wipes wipes the counter and nonchalantly asks, “What might your name be?”
“Mary, and my cousin’s Benjamin.” You lie straight through your smiling teeth, and he smiles back.
He’s about to open his mouth to say something else, when another employee, a server of some kind, sticks his head out from a side door behind the counter and whistles for Armitage’s attention.
“Hey boss!” The server calls, “There’s a man out here askin’ about some cattle, says he wants to talk to you.”
At that, Armitage throws the towel down and groans, checkin’ the pocket-watch he pulls out of his vest.
“Aw shit,” He mutters to himself, callin’ back, “Tell Joey I’ll be right out! Pardon me Miss Mary, but business is business.”
You only nod, liftin’ your glass of half-drunk whiskey in response, and Armitage leaves.
The swingin’ doors of the saloon give way once again, and this time, finally, Kylo arrives. You can see him through the reflection of the tarnished silver mirror that sits up on the wall behind the bar, likely for reasons like this; so even the regulars at the bar can get a looksee at whoever happens to be comin’ and goin’.
You take another swig of your drink, watch through the silver as Kylo is stopped by a gentleman by the door.
“Hold on there partner, check your guns in.” The gentleman says, a hand on Kylo’s massive chest, stoppin’ him from walking in any further. “Thems the rules.”
You try to hide your grin at the fact that you had been so underestimated to not be stopped, but then again, Kylo was really askin’ for trouble just by walkin’ in, what with his naturally intimidating demeanor. You wonder if he’s going to fight the old man on that, but shockingly, he hands his pistol over without any hesitation.
“Whatever you say, sir.” Kylo gives a nod, before searching for you with a tentative, “Mary?”
“Over here Benji.” At the sound of your ‘name’, you turn and throw a hand up for Kylo to see.
“So this is the cousin, eh?” Amos slurps his beer loudly, as if sizing Kylo up and down, trying to figure out if that’s a fight he would win.
“Yep.” You reply, tryin’ your damn best to not regard Kylo with anything more than platonic interest as he weaves his way through the saloon.
Heat burns in your cheeks from how he doesn’t take his eyes off of you, even in that menacing scowl he’s got plastered to his face, he doesn’t once look away. To him, you could have been the only woman in the entire saloon, and for all he knew, you might as well be. Even without his gun, Kylo still looks like the most deadly man in the entire bar, just from sheer stature and attitude.
It’s a good look, not that you’d tell him that.
You don’t get a chance to tell him anything, because as soon as he comes and sidles up next to you, he slips an arm around your waist, protective – possessive, sizin’ Amos up and down in reutnr, a challenge of his own.
“We were startin’ to think you didn’t exist.” Amos grunts into his glass.
“Here I am, in the flesh.” Kylo’s voice is deep, deadly. It sends a shiver up your spine, you can feel the crackle of tension radiating off of him, so to mitigate any potential disaster, you push a full glass of whiskey into his hand, makin’ Kylo smile softly at you and asking, “How much for the drinks…?”
“This kind gentleman here took care of them for us.” You nod carefully towards Amos, who is lookin’ a lot less friendly right about now, now that he’s got his eye on the way Kylo pulls your body a little closer to his.
“Oh, well in that case, your next one’s on me.” Kylo pulls out a coin, balances it on his thumb and flicks it up into the air.
Amos catches it with ease, and grunts out something that you think might be a thank you.
“Benji, is it?” Another man’s voice sounds from just behind the two of you, and both you and Kylo freeze up for a split second, before quickly recovering and tryin’ your best to act natural.
“Depends on who’s askin’.” Kylo responds, turnin’ to see who might be inquiring about him.
There’s a table just off to the side, four chairs, only three of them filled. A gruff lookin’ man with ruddy red hair and a freckled face cracks his knuckles, gestures to the empty chair across from him. You swallow, lookin’ at the pile of cards that have been left abandoned on the table.
“We’ve just lost a player, if you’d care to join.” The man says.
You knew enough to know that when a man offers somethin’ like that, it’s more of a dare. And there ain’t no faster way to get into a fight, than by shyin’ away from a dare. Kylo knows this too, and despite the conversation y’all had earlier about him not bein’ a gambler, he knows he can’t not play at least one hand.
“Alright, but just once.” He says as much, using your presence as an excuse, “Wouldn’t do to go leavin’ my cousin all by her lonesome.”
Giving him a very cautious look, you will him not to do anything stupid. Armitage will be back soon and hopefully he’ll bring some protein with him, and you can enjoy a proper lunch and inquire about a possible place to stay for the night. It would be bad, for anything to happen now.
Kylo walks over to the table, takes the seat.
“What’s this?” He points to the little pile of cards, and you get the uneasy feeling that something bad is going to happen anyway, despite your silent pleas.
“That’s the hand he left behind.” The gruff man smokes on a fat cigar, blows smoke out of his nose, sucks across blackened teeth.
Curiously, Kylo lifts the cards just enough to see somethin’ that he don’t like, and he immediately puts them back down on the table.
“I’d rather not take ‘em, if that’s alright. Deal me a new hand.” Kylo requests, and that, it would seem, was the wrong move to make.
You hold your breath, eyes boring into the back of Kylo’s skull, hand itchin’ for the gun you’ve got hidden on your person, the gun that you’d be willin’ to throw Kylo at a moment’s notice, should he need it.
“It ain’t alright.” The gruff man shakes his head, his eyes grey like steel as he regards the pile, “You seen ‘em, you play ‘em.”
“That don’t seem fair.” Kylo points out, crossing his arms over his chest.
“I don’t give a shit about fair.” The man is unmoving, unwavering, not once breaking eye contact with him as he repeats, “You seen ‘em, you play ‘em.”
“And if’n I don’t?” Kylo asks.
The clinking sound of a holster buckle is what captures everyone’s attention, every single person in the saloon.
Amos, the card table, all the women and children, hell even that three-man band stop playin’, and all turn to look at him, at Kylo, who is now standin’ on the other side of the table, starin’ down the barrel of a gun.
The gruff man stands too, holds the gun level in one hand, holds the cigar in his other.
You itch to throw your gun to Kylo, itch to shoot the man dead yourself, but you don’t move a muscle.
Nobody in the entire saloon moves a single muscle.
“Now I don’t want this to get ugly, particularly not in front of my sweet cousin right over there, so I’m gonna give you a chance.” Kylo has the nerve to say, as he puts his hands up in good faith. He speaks lowly, quietly, so low that the saloon goes silent to hear him. “I’ll give you three seconds to go on over to that there desk and deposit your gun with the clerk at the door, which you shoulda done upon entering as is part of the rules of this here establishment.”
In response, the gruff man only pulls back the trigger, a mockin’ tone to his voice when he echoes Kylo’s earlier words of, “And if’n I don’t?”
You’re just about to lunge in and help him, when all of a sudden, Kylo lifts his leg and slams his boot down on the table, and before you can even shout to ask what the fuck he’s doing, you realize that the long wooden plank wasn’t secured down enough to be stable, and by kicking down on his end, the other end of the plank flies straight up, knockin’ the man’s hand upward, the barrel of the gun pointed right at his chin, the jolt of movement firin’ the trigger, bullet shootin’ straight up through the man’s head.
The crowd is stunned, speechless, watching in shock as the plank levels out on the table again, as Kylo kicks it down down down again, three more bullets flyin’ up through the man’s skull, blood spattering spraying onto the faces of the people in the general vicinity, screams and gasps at the hot hiss of red landin’ on their clothes.
Everyone is frozen, watches as the man’s body finally gives way to death, and thuds and thunks down to the floor.
The top of this man’s head is completely blown out, and Kylo doesn’t even so much as blink an eye, even now that he’s got blood on his own clothes.
“Y’all saw how I warned him?” Kylo barks out to the crowd, and they recoil more from this than they did from the shooting.
“We saw.” They reply nearly in unison.
“Anybody got anything they want to say about it?” Kylo dares, but when no response comes, “Good. Now where’s the fuckin’ bartender when you need him?”
Almost as if on cue, Armitage comes back through the side door, clapping away dirt from his palms.
All eyes shift to him, and Armitage has a look of confusion on his face for one second, one split second, before it morphs through devastation, to rage.
“Brian!” He calls out with the sort of anguish that makes you think Kylo picked the wrong gambler to kill.
“Oh shit.” You mutter under your breath, especially as Armitage jumps over the bar and rushes to the fallen man’s side.
“Which one of you sons of bitches killed my brother??” Armitage screams, so red in the face that you’re afraid he’s going to burst.
It’s then, that Armitage whirls around and gets an eyeful of Kylo – the kind of eyeful that means he knows that ain’t no Benjamin.
“Oh shit!” You hiss, hand slowly, carefully, creepin’ towards your gun.
“You!” Armitage seethes, leveling a bloodied finger in Kylo’s direction as he races back to the bar to grab a rifle, checks the chamber to make sure she’s fully loaded, and immediately fires a shot that blast through the wood of the table, sending the crowd shouting and screaming, racing out of the saloon to avoid bein’ struck. “I thought I told you to never step foot into this goddamn place again!”
Kylo makes a mad dash for you then, grabs you by the arm and yanks you back back back as Armitage reloads his double barrel.
“Why the fuck didn’t you tell me you knew him?” You seethe, smacking at him, wanting to punch his fucking teeth out, wondering why he led you into the belly of a hornet’s nest.
The blast of bullets shatters the window above you, and you both duck your heads so as to not get struck by the falling glass.
“No time to explain, on my count, you make a run for the door and get the horses.” Kylo mutters, entirely too calm and collected, making you want to punch him even harder.
“Here take my gun – ” You offer him, but as another explosion sounds off a little too close to you this time, Kylo unveils two more guns of his own.
“Don’t need it,” Kylo grins, and for the first time, you see a sparkle in that blind eye of his. He scoffs, “What, you didn’t think I’d hand them all over, did you?”
You just widen your eyes at him, incredulous.
“Three, two -- run!” Kylo shouts, popping up over the makeshift barrier he’s yanked you behind, and immediately starts shooting, giving you the cover you need to make a bolt for it.
The band strikes up again, piano and fiddle and harmonica filling the emptiness of silence, punctuated by the sounds of struggle as a great big fights breaks out among the drunks and gamblers that Kylo has so offended.
It feels like a battleground, the way you dodge the bullets that zip past you. If you had made any friends in the time sittin’ at that bar, you’ve lost ‘em now, that much is clear. Amos has no reservation aimin’ straight for your heart, but your quick fingers pull your trigger before he can even manage, his dead body stumbling and tumbling like a bowling ball, knockin’ down the pins of his friends as they try to pin you with bullets of their own.
Run run running, you try to shove your way through the panic of the crowd who keeps scramblin’ like chickens with their heads cut off, screaming and hollerin’ from the way that bullets keep hittin’ and springin’ off metal and blasting into wood, holes riddlin’ the walls, lettin’ streams of sunlight in.
You shoot and shoot, punching and kicking your way through the crowd, knowing that behind you, Kylo can’t be too far.
You can tell because you can hear his grunting shouts, his adrenaline filled calls of rage as he too blasts bullets into the bodies of men, overturning barrels and tables, crashes and explosions going off behind you.
On the single street, you can see some of the townsfolk racing to the jail, and that sends a spike of terror down your back.
The jail meant one thing, and one thing only – the Sheriff.
Panic simmers and bubbles up through you, and you keep running, running towards the church where your horses have been passively entertaining themselves with a trough of water and a bucket of feed.
“Aggie! Sam!” You whistle for their attention, and at once, they turn their big heads to look at you.
Agnes braces herself for you to hoist yourself up onto her saddle, and you frantically undo the tie of their reins around the posts that they’ve been good enough to not wander away from. Holding Sam’s reins in your hands, you kick your heels into Agnes’ side, and great big plumes of dust and dirt kick up under the horses’ hooves as the great beasts immediately break into fast fast fast gallop.
Racing closer closer closer to the saloon, you can still see them fighting and shooting at one another on the inside.
“Come on, come on!” You’re screaming at Kylo from down the road, demanding that he hear you, that he get outside already, because you can’t slow these horses down once they’ve gotten like this, and you can’t turn back once you’ve passed the saloon, not with the commotion from behind, not with the way the Sheriff is now shootin’ at you, at your horses.
“God dammit get out here!” You scream again, lookin’ behind you, takin’ aim and shootin’ the Sheriff clean at the wrist, blowin’ his hand off, the gun explodin’ off with it, bullet ricocheting off one of the hangin’ signs, bouncin’ back and hittin’ the Sheriff in the chest.
You’re almost at the saloon, almost there, and Kylo still ain’t out front, heartbeat pounding pounding pounding in your chest as you approach the doors closer and closer, as you can hear the sound of gunfire and broken glass from inside – but then -- !
Then there he is!
You see him running through the saloon towards the front doors, and somehow, impossibly somehow, as you pass the doors, you throw Sam’s reins, and Kylo catches them, his long legs running alongside Sam’s breakneck pace, jumping up onto her without her slowing down one bit.
“Yes!!” You let out a triumphant shout of adrenaline, before whipping Agnes’s reins and urging her ever faster.
You and Kylo grin at one another, victors in this chance game with death, cheatin’ your lives once again, as you ride ride ride out into the desert, not lookin’ back to see if anyone follows.

Safe and Sound
Rey x Skywalker! Reader
Fandom: Star Wars
Summary: After a nightmare, Y/N’s concerned about the safety of her father and girlfriend
Warnings: This is kinda angsty(is that a warning?)
This was requested by @themagicgirl01 Hope you like it!
Y/N was completely surrounded by darkness, and the silence was deafening. Her head whipped around when the familiar hum of a lightsabre filled her ears. She saw a red blade, before her cousin Ben Solo - Kylo Ren - appeared. Y/N tried to take a step back, but was frozen in place.
Then Rey was standing in front of Kylo. A few moments passed, before Kylo’s red blade had completely cut Rey in half, and Y/N felt herself scream, yet no sound came out.
Then her father appeared. He was standing completely still in front of Kylo. Another moment passed, before Luke was impaled by Kylo’s lightsabre.
‘No!’ Y/N screamed, and this time, it was heard, and Kylo turned to face her. Time seemed to stop as he slowly walked towards Y/N. She tried to get away, but she was still frozen in place. He slowly raised his lightsabre, and swung down toward Y/N’s neck.
Y/N woke up with a start, sitting up in the bed. She was breathing heavily, and tears were welling in her eyes.
‘Y/N?’ Rey’s voice sounded through the room, exhaustion clear. ‘Is something wrong?’
‘N-no, I’m fine. You can go back to sleep.’ Y/N said, placing her head in her hands.
‘No, I don’t think you are.’ Rey sat up. ‘What’s wrong?’
‘I had a nightmare.’ Y/N sighed. ‘Ben, he- he killed you. And dad.’
Rey wrapped an arm around Y/N’s shoulder and pulled her close.
‘It’s okay, I’m safe, and completely fine.’ Rey said.
Y/N closed her eyes and reached out with the Force. Luke was safe, she could feel it.
‘And I can feel dad’s presence in the Force.’ Y/N said. ‘He’s safe too.’
‘Everything’s fine. It was just a nightmare. Nothing more. We’re safe.’
Y/N took a deep breath, and laid back down, Rey laying down next to her.
‘What would I do without you?’ Y/N asked. Rey smiled, and placed a kiss on Y/N’s nose.
‘I definitely wouldn’t feel as loved as I do every day.’
