#kyle the boov

This is my redrawn/redesigned artwork/concept art of six alien/dimensional creature characters of mine (From left to right: Qualord, Octara, Palsofie, Osi and Moza; except for Kyle from Home) in my unnamed Crossover AU project from my previous old one (below) I did back in 2017.

And plus, the name of the society was immediately changed from "Team Alien" to "Offcast Gang", which means that every alien/alternate/dimensional creature character of mine (except for Kyle) was immediately expelled from their home planets/dimensions for their reasonable methods, that they stubbornly refuse to give disciplined and excessively limited rules and the legislations of their native homelands (mainly due to Octara becoming self-willed and independent from her ominous ink-based Octarian homeland in Octo Valley due to an event after the first Splatoon game) and then they become individual and separate from their disposable ones on further journeys throughout the galaxy.

And yet, regarding my old OCs next to Kyle, I wanted to introduce you:

Qualord - he’s the probable leader of the Offcast Gang. Moreover, he’s a dog-like big buff alien who once lived planet Fosian with some inhabited by the same species as his was called as Fosikos. He was banished from his own planet to across the galaxy for piloting his spaceship when he refused to continue participating in the hostile and conquering Fosiko armies and even marauding and poaching societies against other alien societies/groups such as the peaceful and passive society of cat-like alien individuals called Felicuses in the separate planet Catsmos.

Osi - he’s a little armless bipedal and one-eyed monster, who was once a former doctor/medic and scientific expert on his underground homemland called Monotopia on an unknown fantasy-like planet in the Universe B2, but was expelled for his excessive and genetically characteristic habits for being too much smarter and more worthy than his fellow Fuulscat individuals, who seem too much stupider than him. Moreover, he speaks with a distinctly elegant voice, similar to a voice of an elegant but historical human scholar, and he also enjoys reading many types of books as well as novels.

Palsofie - a dwarf dragon-like alien prisoner (with an iron mask that allows him to cover his mouth from endless fire breathing) who escaped from Aguaali Prison on the planet Srewxi, even he was a former member of the Horly Gangs (a criminal and robbery organization together with four of different alien species) until he was caught and arrested by the police after a bank robbery incident. Though, he speaks in a muffled gibberish, as the mask completely hinders him. Also, The name of his alien species is Karstak.

Moza - she is a fairy/pixie-like small winged creature, who occasionally lived in a small town called Laafitown (covered beyond the grass near the edge of the forest) on an unknown fantasy-like planet in the Universe B2, the same place as Osi did. Yet, she must possess various types of magical abilities (especially nature elements, for example) using pollen-like materials from each used bag and wand or other items she received from her fellow wizard, Slateous, and others. Also, the name of her species is Laafiza. And an interesting fact, some people (including Kyle) who first saw Moza, accidentally confused her with a child, but in general, Moza is an adult, it's just the case that she is naturally chibi-like smaller in stature, like her fellow Laafizas in general.

Octara - She is a 25-year-old female Octoling and was one of the former commanders of the Octarian Armies in the Octo Valley. Then, in the first Splatoon game incident, specifically when Agent 3 (now, Captain in the third game) was fighting against DJ Octavio during the final boss, the pop idol duo, Squid Sisters (Callie and Marie) performed the Calamari Inkantation to get Agent 3's support and even that attend the Octolings (including Octara and Marina) get inspired by this performance to their new feelings within, After that, they managed to escape from their undervalued and unprofitable homeland and assimilating into Inkling culture, hoping to start anew. Even for Octara, it still opened up her new destiny to become self-willed and independent, to do things on her own terms than her fellow Octolings did, and then a few years later, at the age of 21, she finally left Inkadia via a passenger spaceship to travel across space and galaxy to another dimension called Universe A2 on the planet Alteria, so that Octara needs to get a new job at an environmental company called Squi Inc., while it is run by the CEO of this company, actually the politely noble Twintacle Octotrooper, Iroham Toutentakuru. Also, when she is assigned as a member of the Offcast gang, first of all, as she and her comrades first met Kyle during their events, but first Kyle was like the first secretly in love with Octara because of her physical appearance and so on, and she also has a crush on him back during their bizarre and comedic adventures, moments and journeys throughout the galaxy and he even saved her during a battle against a volcano-like destructive entity, Vulkaavr in the Osi and Mosa's universe, and eventually she and Kyle became together and married after all.

And besides, I had fun redrawing some of my characters in their new but better look than before. And I was even lucky to draw Kyle again after a long time.

The Home Netflix Series Is Underappreciated And Here’s Some Reasons Why

Ok, so you may be thinking: “Home was an OK film, but not exactly the best thing Dreamworks has made, why would I want to see a cash-in show based on it?” which is a perfectly valid thought to think. However, let me make a bold statement here: THIS SERIES IS BETTER THAN THE FILM WHICH IT IS BASED UPON.

I know, I know, I may sound crazy. But hear me out. We all know Dreamworks has produced a lot of netflix shows recently based on their film franchises, like the Puss In Boots and the King Julian series, and I have no opinion on those since I haven’t watched them, although I do watch Race to the Edge and I doubt they’re as good as that. However, it’s interesting that I chose to watch Home over these other shows, since I know the Shrek and the Madagascar franchises much better than the film Home. I think a large factor that helped this decision was the fact that:

this series is in 2D animation.

Yup, you heard- er.. read me, unlike most other series based on a 3D Dreamworks film, this series deviates from the film’s animation style and takes on not only a 2D style, but a style all of its own. It’s so colourful and vibrant and bouncy and all-round gosh darn gorgeous! You can really tell that the animators, like everyone else who works on the series, have put so much passion and effort into it and every other component aside, it’s an absolute joy to watch. I actually follow one of the storyboard artists here on tumblr and it’s from him that I found out season 3 is coming soon!!

Reason #2: the characters/diversity

The main characters are Tip, a young girl of colour, and Oh, a cute lil alien. There’s also Tip’s single mother Lucy who went from being a rather one-dimensional character in the film (her personality was just caring mother imo) to a fleshed-out, completely crazy and strong and lovable character in the series (she’s seriously completely insane sometimes and I love it. also they decided to give her pink hair and i have no idea why but i fully support that decision).

Tip is such a good protagonist not only for representation as a black girl, but her personality is also so unique. She’s imaginative and energetic and strong-willed, and also doesn’t fall into any gender stereotypes; she’s interested in both “girly” things and “boyish” things. The only “problem” with her that’s more of a personal thing is that she’s on the brisk of puberty and the show really wants you to know it. Almost every episode she has to say something about boys or crazy emotions etc., and tbh maybe that’s a good thing bc it’s realistic and stuff??? I’m not sure. I remember seeing on imdb once that a few people who work on this series also worked on Pubertina (which I swear was that Smosh animation), so I’m wondering if that’s where the inspiration came from lol. I also love how she’s animated; she’s a weird crazy child and they’re not afraid to use animation to their advantage by making her facial expressions as exaggerated as needed. Also the actress who voices her is absolutely PHENOMENAL and her characterisation of Tip is spot on. All of the actors are amazing tbh.

The secondary characters are also amazing and so much more fleshed out than their film counterparts, such as Kyle, and oh my gosh I LOVE Smek! A former villain now working at the local store is an hilarious plot line. There’s also new characters like Sharzod, whom I also love for their sass.

In terms of diversity, the background characters come in all shapes and sizes and colours, and that’s just the humans! Whilst there’s no explicitly LGBT+ characters or moments that I can recall, it is explained that there are seven Boov genders, and when Tip is informed of this, she makes sure to use the correct pronouns. This is so important, especially for children, as it introduces them to the idea or possibility of a gender spectrum outside of our binary. Also Boy George has a character in one episode so that’s pretty cool lol.

Reason #3: the music

I don’t even need to explain this part to you if you go find the full theme song and listen to it now. You’ll understand. The actress who voices Tip was actually on X Factor I believe, and they have definitely utilised her glorious talent well as there are several musical numbers within the series, all of which are bops. There is a season 1 album which I bought, but I wish they’d release a season 2 one as well!!

Reason #4: the humour

The tone of the show is definitely comedic, however there are also moments of drama and emotion. The comedy is absolutely hilarious in my opinion, but I’m not sure how to describe it. Sometimes it’s parody, but mainly it’s....idk...just crazy? I know I’ve used that word quite a bit in this post but I’m not sure how else to describe it. I think a reason why the humour works so well is because every single component of the series (the animation, the acting, the writing, the sound, etc) compliment each other wonderfully; they’re like different musical instruments that sound good on their own, but create a glorious symphony when combined.

In conclusion, there’s so much more I could say about this series, but I’d better stop myself before I write too much. I’m honestly surprised I love it so much because usually I don’t like shows that don’t have a main constant underlying plot, but this series still manages to pace itself so well and is an absolute pleasure to watch again and again. I implore you to check it out for yourself, and share it as much as possible! More people need to talk about this!!!!

This is my OC based on the 2015 Dreamworks movie ‘Home’, Dr. Maximilian, or Malware Max!

Back in the late 2000’s, Max was one of the Boov’s most brilliant and accomplished scientists, he was the one to find a source of clean, renewable energy in soap. The one downside was that he was just kind of a creepy weirdo with a god complex that every one was pretty scared of, especially smek. Max’s pet project was finding a way to push Boov anatomy to absolute perfection. So, inspired by a VHS tape he found of human ballé dancers (one of the Earth Objects the boov were studying at the time), he created a mech suit for himself to replace his own body, and by “replace” I mean fully replace! He managed to convert his consciousness into digital code as well as stuff most of his internal organs into the suit. When he first debuted his transformation in 2007, Smek was so horrified by it that he ordered Max to be shut down. And that’s how it’s been for 13 years until Oh, Tip, and Kyle were looking through an old storage unit and found the decrepit mech suit and powered it back on, not knowing that a conscious boov was lying dormant inside of it. Once reactivated, Max’s new goal was to get revenge on Smek and kill him as soon as possible and by any means necessary!

All this is for a graphic novel fanfic I’ve been working on all summer called “Home: File Corrupted”! I’ll post the first few pages on here and maybe Webtoon as soon as I can! This is a big project that’s gonna take a long while to fully complete and I hope you all enjoy it!

I really like the idea that Kyle was constantly nudging Oh in the right direction when he was Captain. He knew Oh was best fit for the role because of his knowledge on humans and his courage to own up to his mistakes, but Oh’s own confidence often kept him from asserting the same dominance on their race that Smek had. He doubted himself and often tried to leave the decision making to other boov because he was so used to making mistakes and everyone scolding him for it. It was harder for him to break away from that norm because he was exposed to it more than the other boov, so Kyle would find himself being the one to encourage him to keep trying.

Sometimes Kyle lost his patience, but that’S what you get when you decide to actually be best friends with Oh.

Oh and Tip rarely find any Boov that likes being hugged or is kind to them. They’re not too bad just not very caring sometimes?? Sharzod (up top) doesn’t like Tip, constantly makes fun of her and tries to keep Oh for herself. Kyle, like most Boov, doesn’t like being touched, sometimes. He won’t even accept a hug from his friend Oh. Smek on the other hand doesn’t mind it at all and he’s the villain! Kinda. He’s not used to anyone being kind to him. He actually seems like he doesn’t know how to be kind. He’s lived most of his life being a spoiled and cowardly leader. He’s learned how to be a good friend though thanks to Oh. At least until Hulio ruined it.
