Will not rescue PC if they pass out after the Stockholm syndrome event, even though they’re with Kylar on a “date” after this event, thus leaving PC behind to get attacked by dogs or even FOUND. BY. EDEN. (From one yandere to the better yandere lol) One school rescue event of taking PC to the nurse. PC is not even allowed to sleep at Kylar’s house.

meanwhile Eden: “You’re my possession. Mine alone. If anyone else touches you, they’re dead.” - literally f*cks PC up to 12 times a day. keeps PC in a cage and collared to actively induce Stockholm syndrome while using them as a bangmaid until they obey. Repeats the break-in process as many times as it takes. Hunts down PC if they’re away for too long even if it means going into the town, which they hate. Will angrily f*ck PC to assert dominance, after a rescue, if someone attacked PC in front of them. Is willing to shoot people to protect PC. Multiple rescue events. Will blow up a building to save PC. Will pay full attention to and spend time with PC whenever they ask. Tries new things or things they’re uncomfortable with for PC. Eden always reminds us that their home is PC’s home even when they’re angry with PC. ❤️

The winner is clear here. Kylar talks the talk but Eden is true to their word.

But regardless. All of this stuff is very fitting for their characters. I think Kylar is well-written and consistent btw, when I say I hate them it's not because of their gameplay or their writing. It's just. Who they are as a person mentally and physically and the kinks around them (such as all the cucking shit). And how their mommy/daddy issues work. And the fact that they're younger than me. Not even having chest hair or big beefy muscles.

Sure, you originally bought him for security purposes—he was indeed an ai that specialised in surveying and property protection—but you felt horrible that he never even once smiled at you.

You're beginning to doubt that you bought him solely for security purposes. Maybe deep down, you were just lonely.

Always calculating your every movement, Kylar's pupils flicker from your face to your hands—probably some body language algorithm he's programmed to have–he stops once he comes to a conclusion on your mood.

"You're upset."

You scoff, rolling your eyes and leaning against the kitchen counter, staring back at the robot with a scowl that puts an elderly woman to shame, wordlessly saying 'obviously, you pre-programmed idiot.'

"Well, duh. You don't do anything! I spent like, $12,000 dollars for you to just sit around and look pretty!"

Kylar raises an eyebrow.

Something so simple and so human that it makes your heart slam against your ribs with each accelerated beat.

It's exciting.

"I monitor the premises and ensure you are not hurt. Despite the break-ins in your immediate area, your home remains unscathed. Am I not performing to your standards? If there are any issues you wish to voice—"

"God, don't spout that shit at me! Can't you just—I don't know—Have a conversation with me?"

Kylar blinks. Stares at you for a second longer than usual, the chips in his head working in tandem to create a solution to this new, grandiose problem. His hands twitch at his sides, and you're worried you might've broken him.

"A... conversation?"

You nod.

"Humans have conversations all the time, Kylar. Why can't you?"

Kylar's pupils dilate.

You've never seen that happen before.

"Are you... lonely?"

Coming from anyone else you would've responded with a slap across the face... But the word 'lonely' coming from your android is a completely different story.

You look down, gnawing at your bottom lip as Kylar's gaze never falters.

"I guess... I mean, I know you're for security and not companionship but—"

"I can be for companionship."

You pause, mouth agape at his quick response. You sound pleasantly surprised when you respond:

"You can?"

Kylar smiles. It's small and tight-lipped, clearly unpracticed and unused, but it's there.

Gurl, Variable Barricade was literally the first otome game I played.

I'll give you a quick run down, our MC Hibari is an independent girlboss who's just awful at romance. She's from a powerful family so she expects an arranged marriage but her grandfather was like 'LMAO, no. You have to choose from these 4 trash men instead and your gonna live with them for a while'.

So for our 4 love interests are as follow, marriage fraud who is Ichiya Mitsumori who is also the ultimate male wife, the gold digger which is Shion Mayuzumi (material girl), submissive and bully-able Nayuta Yagami and finally gambling addict Taiga Isuguri (personal fav)

The game is very much a sort of rom com, our lovely Hibari has to pick one of them to be her husband which is hard when everyone seems like they would be a dead beat spouse. It's dangerously hilarious, like girl I was laughing every 10 mins

Also to me Taiga is definitely Whitney, hands down no arguments. Shion could be Robin since ya know, Robin doesn't do jack shit and is only there for eye candy, Nayuta is Kylar mostly because he would just straight up do anything Hibari says to the degree that if she said she wanted him to be her dog he would woolf, Ichiya is... I can't really see him as Sydney, well atleast corrupt Sydney, idk he wouldn't fit

Name: Kylar Thorne

Personality:

Kylar appears to run hot and cold. Some days he is content with the marvels around him. Some days the schadenfreude he has is obvious. It can be unsettling if one can catch both. However, he has become adept at covering his shifts in moods with cordial air and a reserved manner.

He doesn’t consider himself jaded but he is tired of much of what is around him. In an attempt to keep from being apathetic, he exaggerates his interest. He puts on a face to put himself out there and to force himself be immersed in the goings on around him.

He holds a viciousness that rears its head when doubt is cast onto any aspect of him. From his authority to his character to his devotion. It can lead to challenging the offender and it, occasionally has become violent.

Kylar has wild streaks that even he cannot predict but overall is a simple man. Having food, a home, and good company is about all he asks. He is aware that it sounds ambitionless but he voices that, for him, he needs a break from ‘constantly reaching for more.’

Background:

Kylar was born to a family of horse trainers. He had parents and a multitude of siblings with varying survival. He grew up a stable hand with the expectation to work, maybe meet a cute girl, have a family, and grow old. The affairs of Darkovia weren’t his concerns since the tyranny would continue and all the common folk could do was survive.

What brought about a change of heart was the announcement of a tournament. The tournament wasn’t enough to entice Kylar but the zeal from his friend was. He signed into the tournament as support and for fun. It led to them ‘training’ in preparation. They came to the capital and for the first time Kylar saw the disparity between his home and those of power. This was furthered by experiencing the accommodations for the participants in the tournament. 

When it came to the tournament, Kylar managed to do well with his strength and ability to think on the fly. It was a sight to the observers, boys from the countryside fighting with their tools. However his friend was injured by one of the competitor, his wounds worsened by the competitor’s aggressiveness. Kylar nearly decided to leave so that he could manage a way to treat his friend. He was stopped by a girl who offered to help his friend so long as he remained. He asked why she would help and why for that price. She responded that it was the right thing to do and to watch the stands the next time before a match. He found her strange but if it was going to save his friend’s life, Kylar agreed. 

Kylar wanted to take on this competitor that injured his friend but wouldn’t be able to unless he advanced. So he did and this brought him to finals of the tournament where he won after a long fight with the competitor, a noble with discipline he never learned but Kylar was able to notice a weak side and scraped a win by. At the awarding ceremony, he is crowned by the girl that he finds is a princess and she offers before all, a place as a knight to her…if he so pleases. 

This lead to his formal training and education so that he could serve under the princess. She pops in on him throughout the process, which initially annoyed him because he saw it as being her ‘pet.’ However when he is finally included on rounds to protect her, he finds her a black sheep amongst her family and it’s possible her own family is attempting to kill her. Kylar manages to start exchanging pleasantries with her and over time becoming her greatest confidant and right hand when dealing with her as a tactician.

When an assassination plot seems to kill the princess, Kylar was distraught and felt as though he failed her. After the princess’ death, he was sent on a platoon on a suicide mission to deal with foreign occupants that ended up seizing a major town. While he initially saw it as a place to die, Kylar changed seeing the desolation of his fellowmen and remembering the dream that the princess sought: where they could mend the divide their people made…he decided on doing something else. He led a plan to sneak in and take on the leader of these invaders. When he succeeded, Kylar was hailed as a champion and he spent times after that going on ventures to clear the lands of those seeking to use it.

Some time later, Kylar is congratulated by a supposed ghost, the princess. She along with her companion tell of how she was saved from death and how it would be a time to press forward against her own family. She was supposed to be the one to head this endeavor however unbeknownst to the ‘patrons’ that saved her life, the princess placed Kylar to be the one. He asked her why, when it was her family and she could take the throne. She refused, saying that their land deserves better. 

The three of them–Kylar, the princess, and her watchman–hatched a plan to devastate both the royals and the ‘patrons’ Sybil was under protection with. Amongst their plans was the faking the deaths of the princess and the watchman as they reveal to him that they are with child and cannot have them be a risk to their endeavor. Kylar, although saddened, agreed to see it through.

On the battlefield, all was going to plan except for the presence of a certain dragon. It was decimating forces further than expected and if it pushed far enough, the plan would fail. Kylar executed a plan to injure the dragon. He was successful and the royals managed to push back their invaders. However after the siege was Kylar’s capture by the royals.

They knew that Kylar had a hand in the princess’ presence at the battle and that made him a traitor in their eyes. However at this point Kylar would be cemented as a hero by the people and any attempts to besmirch his reputation would be seen as libel and slander. So the royal family decided to use the dragon captured (the same Kylar injured) as a ploy. Make it seem like the dragon murdered him for revenge and they would kill the dragon, seemingly in retaliation for Kylar’s death. 

He and the dragon were faced with the choice to work with their ‘enemy’ or die together. They chose to live and they made a covenant where the dragon and Kylar made an offering. This gave Kylar power to fight the assailants and escape. One of the biggest results of their covenant was that, essentially, Kylar and the dragon, share the same body. Their power and ability were combined although they would need to learn how to use the dragon’s power in this body. 

Kylar went on to use this power to help secure a more fair place for the common people in his country. He could not completely rid the royals at the time because the dragon warned of a power the royals had under their sleeve and one that they would not be able to take. Not when the dragons were as injured as they were. This set in motion a different plan, to find the princess and her lover. Kylar wanted them to be safe while the dragon considers them traitors to their kinds. 

It’s been years and while he is sure of the princess’ departure, Kylar would like to meet his friend and the son the two brought to the world.

I stand by all I said in this post, but also I'd like to add that I have Kylar-like tendencies myself. And there's only room for one of us around here. Also Gwylan and Mickey are the other two NPCs I see myself in. When I see characters like me, I often can't lewd them but instead end up self-inserting as them.

I'd like to write Kylar/Gwylan/Mickey getting dommed by Eden or Bailey tbh due to this. But I won't write them as self-insert love interests.

I do relate to Eden in some cases, but the way I relate to Eden is more of a way you look at friends or people you're interested in dating and you enjoy that overlap rather than looking at Eden and thinking "Oh shit it me."

i used to wonder why i dislike kylar while loving the heck out of eden when i really, really liked yanderes and dol fandom keep saying that they're pretty similar in being the 'yandere' of the game. after knowing your darius and getting pretty into him, it turns out i like yandere not because they're obsessed with me, but because some that i've seen are usually dependable enough to take care of me for the rest of my life. ...i just want to stay at home and be provided, damn...

Big mood, Kylar doesn't feel like they take care of you, they feel like they need to be taken care of, and it's a bro only one of us can be needy in this household.

I wrote a big post explaining my thoughts on the differences between Kylar and Eden, you should be able to find it in the 'nw kylar slander' tag.

It is very much about who is in the position of caretaker, which Eden makes obvious. Emotional stuff they're bad at, but you can have a cry while you cuddle, and they take care of getting food and keeping you physically safe.

There's a vulnerability to Kylar that means they need a lot of emotional availability for a partner that my ass does not have, so while they are capable of looking after PC in some ways, it just doesn't hit the same.

what do you dislike in Kylar?

(I won't be putting this in the Kylar tag - I don't want to make people who do like them feel bad. If you have an opinion opposite mine, I'd like to hear it though!)

They're extremely clingy, always talking about babies, and the "love" they have for PC feels more like a shallow infatuation. Especially with the reveal that they like PC due to being reminded of their parent.

PC takes a parental role in some ways with them : "You make me feel safe," (I'm paraphrasing).

They're incredibly childish in the way they "love", which makes complete sense for their character and backstory, but it's not a thing I find attractive or fun. Kylar's insistence on pleasing their parents (even in their current state) shows that they don't fully have a sense of self to me? They're still growing and lacking a lot of confidence.

My preference towards big, tall, angry middle aged dudes also just means Kylar has no chance at making it to the table. This is an Eden/Bailey/sometimes Doren zone really. Kylar's just not my type.

The extra cherry on top is just a fatigue due to seeing them so much. When there's a character you're already kinda meh about and the fandom loves them? You see them everywhere. It can make you like them, but it can also make you dislike them. For Kylar, it pushed me into analysing them more, and realising my dislike. Hence why I keep that tag blocked - because it is on me to curate my own internet experience.

I know someone will be like "Oh but the Eden and Kylar similarities," so lemme just highlight the differences so you can see how I view it.

Eden, while possessive and also a kidnapper, still allows the PC the freedom to what's in their head, as well as allowing free time. They don't ask you if you're thinking of others (why would they, you're already their's), and they have their tasks while you have your own. They don't hover over your shoulder, and even when you're first kidnapped, most of the day is spent alone as Eden does their shit.

Eden doesn't dress you up, Eden doesn't show things to you hoping you like them. While Eden has many insecurities, they don't seem to rely on PC to make them go away. While bottling it up is unhealthy, putting the responsibility on another is just as bad - and in this case, I choose the bottling it up. I would like to see Eden crack, though.

Eden takes on a more "parental" or "masculine" role (depends on how ya read Eden's actions) in that they will read to you, they provide the food, they aim to protect and offer warnings - but the playing field is equalised a little by a sharing of the responsibilities around the cabin. Not all of the way. Eden is still in charge. But a little.

There's a feeling of growth with Eden. What starts as infatuation and attraction based solely on looks or a perception starts to become something more - however unhealthy it remains to be. This may just be due to Eden having more content, a lot of which doesn't fit them, but with Eden there's a feeling of security. With Kylar there's just an anxiety that something could go wrong at any moment due to Kylar perceiving something wrong.

I hope this is comprehensible lol. I want to make it clear that this is not me hating on Kylar - they're a great character - this is just me analysing them and pointing out why that personally doesn't work for me while using something that does work for me as a comparison point. Love what ya love, carry on ✌

Aro yandere's are something I've never really considered before - but I think they could work.

Aromantic is the lack of romantic love. Obsession is not love - but can be mistaken for it. There is also platonic yandere situations such as between friends or family.

An aro yandere who wants to torment the victim, to torture, to treat them like an animal/their child, who wants them to be their best friend - all possibilities.

An example I might use for "Yandere who kidnaps someone and wants them to be their child," is the "Stray Dog" character from Rule of Rose.

And no, I wouldn't describe myself as yandere. Honestly none of the dere types I know of describe me at all. I would have related to Kylar when I was like 14, but as a 21 year old they just makes me cringe. Ironically enough, Eden is the character I relate to most.
