Maxi and his old crewmates. Kyam and Yagaji are among them, and you just might be able to spot a few of the others in the ending of Maxi’s Soul Chronicle. I recall a Cadena mentioned in SC6, whom I think is either of the two women in this. The most I can find are mentions of her in the relationship charts in Legend of Soulcalibur and in New Legends of Project Soul (spelled “Kadena” though). The latter happens to be my only source for this image (page 47), shrunk-down as it seems to have been. The cropping is... well, that’s how it looked on that page. Style-wise, it looks like it’s from Soulcalibur’s gallery, but it hasn’t turned up in of the slideshows I’ve been able to find on YouTube. I’ve looked through the Soul Archive website via the Wayback Machine before, but no such luck. Even TinEye came up empty for me.

Nearly a year after my last Kyam / Unbidden Audio release, I'm happy to say that UBA-009 will be released on Fri 17th November (Bandcamp), and Fri 1st December (General release) - "Fixations" explores abstract / industrial halftime territory, whilst "Slow Blink" offers contrast via rolling breakbeats, and hypnotic drones. https://unbiddenaudio.bandcamp.com/ Big big thanks to BBC Radio Wales' Adam Walton for the recent airplay support.

A child that faces a bedridden life. A girl with intellectual disabilities raped by a family member. Victims of domestic violence or reproductive coercion. There are a variety of distressing reasons women have later stage terminations.
There is no easy definition of when an abortion is considered “late” or “late-term”. It is generally considered anything after 20 weeks’ gestation, but the states and territories have a patchwork of legislation with various milestones.
What is clear is that later terminations are the new target of anti-abortion activists, now that abortion has been decriminalised across Australia.
On Wednesday South Australia’s upper house voted on legislation that would force women seeking an abortion after 27 weeks and six days – an extremely rare occurrence – to be induced, to deliver the child alive, and keep it or adopt it out.
It was narrowly defeated – nine were in favour and 10 opposed from the 22-person house. The president only casts a deciding vote, while a prominent Liberal critic of the bill, Michelle Lensink, is absent for cancer treatment.
The Liberal frontbencher Ben Hood, who introduced the bill, says the woman’s right to end a pregnancy is kept because the pregnancy ends when the baby is born.
“The innovation of this bill is that it allows a mother to end her pregnancy throughout all nine months and indeed right up to birth,” he says.
The Greens have a different label for it: “forced birth”.
About 1% of all terminations are carried out after 20 weeks.
According to SA Health data gathered in the 18 months after abortion reform in the state, fewer than five terminations were performed after 27 weeks.
Terminations at that point can only be done with the approval of two doctors, and only if it is necessary to save the life of the pregnant person or save another foetus, or poses significant risk of injury or mental health of the pregnant person, or if there is a significant risk of serious foetal anomalies.
Hood said in the upper house on Wednesday night that his bill did not “force birth”. He said any termination at 28 weeks already involved “birth” because women had no other option in how to remove the foetus from the body.
“The only difference is that the baby will have a chance to live,” he said.
He has previously said that, once born, if the baby “isn’t compatible with life”, it would then be given palliative care.
He said on Wednesday night the babies would be admitted to neonatal units, “receiving the best medical attention available if the mother does not wish to keep the baby”.
Adoption would be a compassionate alternative, he said.
Hood indicated on ABC radio that he was not abandoning his mission.
The attorney general, Kyam Maher, says the “Trumpian” bill would wind back abortion care and poses a “real and significant danger, not only to the physical health and safety of all women, but to women’s fundamental right to bodily autonomy”.
He also hit out at the vitriol, nastiness and inflammatory attacks deployed in the campaign.
“I’d encourage those who’ve been involved in this sort of debate to reflect on whether the hyper polarised US style of personal politics really reflects well on SA,” he says.
The bill bears similarities to so-called “born-alive” laws, which have percolated in the US for years. A federal “born alive” bill in Australia was found to have no legal, ethical or medical basis to support it.
The Katter’s Australian party leader, Robbie Katter, has proposed similar legislation in Queensland.
Both Katter and Hood have thanked the anti-abortion activist Joanna Howe for her work on their legislation. Howe wants “an Australia where abortion is unthinkable”.
Hood thanked Howe on Wednesday and said the other people who informed the bill wanted to remain anonymous. Several earlier speakers noted that Hood’s bill was drafted by Howe and anonymous experts while the review that informed decriminalisation involved thousands of experts and many respected institutions who did not remain anonymous, and that it involved months of investigation and a 560-page report.
Abortion has also crept up as a serious issue in the lead-up to the Queensland election after Labor accused the Liberal National party of a “secret plan” to limit abortion rights and the LNP failed to quell the speculation.
The various campaigns have been accused of using misinformation in an attempt to limit access to terminations.
Reasons women might need a late termination include foetal abnormalities, life-threatening conditions, and psycho-social reasons such as the baby being the result of rape or incest.
‘We can’t do this to the baby’
Tiffany’s first baby had spina bifida.
Her baby would have been paralysed from the neck down. She chose a termination. Six years later, Tiffany* was pregnant again. At the 20-week scan, she was told this baby also had spina bifida, but it was not as bad.
“They said wait another two weeks, we’ll do another scan and we’ll go from there,” she says.
“You’re stressing, you’re freaking out. Two weeks felt like an eternity.”
After waiting two weeks and undergoing another scan, Tiffany was again told it didn’t look too bad and she should do another scan in two weeks.
“At 24 weeks, it got worse,” she says.
“He started developing fluid on the brain. It was affecting his nerves, down the spine. It went from numb toes to ‘he’s not going to be able to walk’.”
Another two weeks, another scan. “Everything was failing,” she says. “We did all these tests because I needed to make sure I was making the right decision … we sat down and said ‘we can’t do this to the baby’. He’d be bedridden, have surgery after surgery, a lifetime of hospital visits.”
At 28 weeks, she had the procedure.
An SA Law Reform Institute review of abortion law heard about a girl with an intellectual disability who had been sexually abused by a family member and did not realise she was pregnant until late in the pregnancy.
She made it clear she did not want the pregnancy to proceed. If she had not been able to have an abortion, if she had been forced to have the child, it would have had a “severe and adverse affect on her”, the institute said in its report.
Jacquie* and her husband had a two-year-old and another baby on the way.
They did the usual testing, including a 16-week scan and an amniocentesis. “We got the results back and they said everything was fine,” she says. “But I had a gut feeling and remember saying to my hubby that something was just off.”
At 24 weeks, they got a call. “They said they got the results wrong,” she says. “We thought, ‘shit’. So we were told at 24 weeks that our child did have Down syndrome and we had to make a choice within 24 hours.
“We just had to make the decision around our family and what was best for us. To this day we never say it was the right decision. It was the best choice for us at that time. We had to think about our little one.”
Jacob Mangelsdorf is a counsellor at Red Tree Foundation, an organisation which supports people grieving the loss of a child.
He says the parents that come to him are suffering an “incredibly complex grief”.
“We’re not talking about an easy choice. We’re not talking about something that’s without a high level of complexity,” he says.
“It’s not just losing that baby, it’s about processing that loss and the decision, [thinking] ‘in some ways I made that choice to end that baby’s life’.
“There’s always that little part of their brain grappling with that. It’s really important to acknowledge that the mum at that point has had 20-something weeks to bond with that baby.”
Tiffany says hospitals and health authorities need to do better in supporting women going through horrific experiences like hers. And people need to stop judging others, she says.
“Everyone has an opinion and their own beliefs.
“But if you’re not in my shoes, you don’t know.”

ASCARI Ecosse
Ascari (the name is either a contraction of Anglo-American Car Industries or a tribute to Alberto Ascari, the two-time, Ferrari-driving Formula One champion, depending on who you listen to…) made its home near Banbury, an area thick with Formula One teams and engineering know-how.Its first car was the FGT, a Chevrolet-engined concept racing car that so impressed multi-millionaire inventor and racing driver Klaas Zwart that, like Victor Kyam, he bought the company. He went on to race the FGT in the British GT Championship in 1995, winning at Silverstone but failing to qualify for Le Mans. The Ecosse was the road-going version of the FGT. With more than a hint of McLaren F1 about it, it was Ascari’s first production car. Launched in 1998 it featured a spaceframe chassis, a fibreglass and Kevlar body, and a BMW 4.4-litre, Hartage-tuned V8 engine mated to a ZF manual gearbox. It wouldn’t surprise us if Ascari lost money on each one, so exquisite is the engineering. With 300bhp on tap, it is said to have a top speed of 200mph thanks to slippery aerodynamics and a weight of just 1,250kgs, which is all the more impressive given that it has leather trim, air-conditioning and a carbonfibre dashboard; this was a proper supercar rather than a stripped-out racing machine made legal. The engine size was later increased to 4.7-litres and 400bhp, and the more powerful car could reach 60mph in 4.1 seconds – and if that’s not quick enough for you, the final cars boasted a 420bhp, 5.0-litre BMW V8 and two of the concluding run even had a six-speed sequential gearbox from Quaife…The firm, who ceased trading in 2010, is thought to have built only 17 cars, of which no more than seven are thought to still exist, making them a very, very rare sight indeed.

TMOHS HONORIFICS REFERENCE
a few of my buddies supported the idea of me making a bit of a reference for how the tmohs characters canonically refer to each other. so, i decided to do just that! i'm really only going through and picking out relevant characters, as non-relevant characters aren't really given names to be addressed by. everything under the cut because this is long. anyone is free to reblog this.
CHARACTER DEFAULTS: - KYON by default refers to people by just last name. he seems to add -san onto that if the person is older than him. - HARUHI will use lastname-san on average, but tends to jump to just last name or first name. she's inconsistent, though. - YUKI and KUYOH will not refer to anyone by name if they do not know their first and last name. if their first/last names aren't known to the audience yuki will describe them "the cat" / "that human" / "that time traveler" or solely refer to them by their pronouns when it is clear in context. - MIKURU is polite by default; lastname-san. - ITSUKI is polite by default; lastname-san. will occasionally refer to people by their full names when monologuing. - RYOKO and EMIRI often use lastname-san but will refer to people by full name on occasion. especially when discussing things in the context of their goals. - TSURUYA is similar to kyon with a tendency towards giving people nicknames. - FUJIWARA more often just describes people, usually in a derogatory manner, rather then call them by name. when he does use names, it seems he defaults to just last names without honorific or using their full name. - EVERYONE ELSE can be assumed to use lastname-san for people by default. it's just polite.
KYON IS REFERRED TO AS... - KYON by the majority of people. we do not hear his real name even once in the series, thus no one is seen using it for him. though we can assume teachers and his parents do. - KYON-KUN by mikuru, tsuruya, and his little sister. - KYOROSUKE once by tsuruya - NOTHING by yuki, emiri, ryoko, and kuyoh. these few only refer to kyon in the second person “this/that person/human” or just “you”. as we do not see them talk about him when he is not present we are unsure how they reference him when he is not around, but we can infer that they do not use “kyon” as it is a plot point in “snowy mountain syndrome” that yuki would have not called kyon by his nickname. - KYAM by T. (NOTE: she once also called him kyami). - SENPAI by yasumi. no name, just senpai.
HARUHI IS REFERRED TO AS... - SUZUMIYA-SAN by everyone who isn’t yuki or kuyoh. if a major character isn’t mentioned as doing otherwise below, this is what they call her. - SUZUMIYA by taniguchi and fujiwara. kyon also calls her this at the beginning of melancholy before getting to know her better. - HARUHI by kyon (NOTE: kyon once considered starting to call her by “haru” or “haru-chan” but decided against it). - HARU-NYAN by tsuruya- and kyon’s sister who picked it up from her. tsuruya will switch between this and suzumiya-san. - HARLS by tsuruya. - HARU by T. - FULL NAME by yuki and kuyoh. a lot of supernatural characters (especially aliens) will occasionally use her full name as well, but it is not anyone else’s default. - ??? we do not see yasumi refer to haruhi, so we do not know what she calls her. it can be assumed it is either suzumiya-senpai or haruhi-senpai, but it’s hard to say.
YUKI IS REFERRED TO AS... - NAGATO-SAN by everyone who isn’t kuyoh. if a major character isn’t mentioned as doing otherwise below, this is what they call her. - NAGATO by kyon and taniguchi. - YUKI-CHAN by tsuruya (she switches). - YUKI by haruhi (NOTE: haruhi called her yuki-chan and yuki-san both exactly once at the beginning of the series, but has never used either since then). kyon’s sister also calls her this. - YUKKIKO by tsuruya (she switches). - NAGATOCCHI by tsuruya (she switches). - FULL NAME by kuyoh. a lot of supernatural characters (especially aliens) will occasionally use her full name as well, but it is not anyone else’s default. - ??? we do not see yasumi refer to yuki, so we do not know what she calls her. it can be assumed it is either nagato-senpai or yuki-senpai, but it’s hard to say.
MIKURU IS REFERRED TO AS... - ASAHINA-SAN by everyone who isn’t yuki or kuyoh. if a major character isn’t mentioned as doing otherwise below, this is what they call her. (NOTE: while this is kyon’s default, when he first met her he called her asahina-senpai before switching to this). - ASAHINA-SENPAI by yasumi. - MIKURU by tsuruya. - MIKURU-CHAN by haruhi. (NOTE: mikuru signs a letter to kyon referring to herself as mikuru-chan). - FULL NAME by yuki and kuyoh. a lot of supernatural characters (especially aliens) will occasionally use her full name as well, but it is not anyone else’s default. (NOTE: itsuki once tried to refer to mikuru by her full name, but kyon told him not to say her first name. he has never done this since and sticks to asahina-san).
ITSUKI IS REFERRED TO AS... - KOIZUMI-SAN by kyoko, unlike other characters this is not usually how he is referred to by default. - KOIZUMI-KUN by haruhi, tsuruya (she switches), mikuru, and kyon’s sister. a majority of the female characters in the cast have this as their default. - KOIZUMI by kyon, the student council president, and all members of the agency. T also sometimes calls him this. a majority of the male characters in the cast have this as their default. - ITSUKI-SAN by tsuruya (she switches). - IKKI by T. (NOTE: she will sometimes add his last name: “ikki koizumi”). - FULL NAME by yuki and kuyoh. a lot of supernatural characters (especially aliens) will occasionally use his full name as well, but it is not anyone else’s default. - ??? we do not see yasumi refer to itsuki, so we don't know what she calls him. it can be assumed it is either koizumi-senpai or itsuki-senpai, but it's hard to say.
RYOKO IS REFERRED TO AS... - ASAKURA-SAN by everyone who isn’t yuki or kuyoh. if a major character isn’t mentioned as doing otherwise below, this is what they call her. - ASAKURA by kyon, haruhi, and all members of the agency. taniguchi sometimes calls her this. a majority of the male characters in the cast have this as their default. (NOTE: kyon and haruhi sometimes call her asakura-san, but not very often and never when she’s around) - FULL NAME by yuki and (presumably) kuyoh. a lot of supernatural characters (especially aliens) will occasionally use her full name as well, but it is not anyone else’s default.
TSURUYA IS REFERRED TO AS... - TSURUYA-SAN by everyone who isn’t yuki or kuyoh. if a major character isn’t mentioned as doing otherwise below, this is what they call her. - TSURUYA-SENPAI by T. - TSURUYA by T and haruhi. - TSURU-CHAN by haruhi.
EMIRI IS REFERRED TO AS... - KIMIDORI-SAN by everyone who isn’t yuki or kuyoh. if a major character isn’t mentioned as doing otherwise below, this is what they call her. - FULL NAME by yuki and (presumably) kuyoh. a lot of supernatural characters (especially aliens) will occasionally use her full name as well, but it is not anyone else’s default.
SASAKI IS REFERRED TO AS... - SASAKI-SAN by everyone who isn’t yuki or kuyoh. if a major character isn’t mentioned as doing otherwise below, this is what they call her. - SASAKI by kyon, taniguchi, and fujiwara.
FUJIAWARA IS REFERRED TO AS... - FUJIAWARA by a majority of people in the past (who aren’t yuki or kuyoh). if a major character isn’t mentioned as doing otherwise below, this is what they call him. - FUJIWARA-KUN by sasaki.
KYOKO IS REFERRED TO AS... - TACHIBANA-SAN by everyone who isn’t yuki or kuyoh. if a major character isn’t mentioned as doing otherwise below, this is what they call her. - TACHIBANA by kyon. - FULL NAME by yuki and kuyoh. a lot of supernatural characters (especially aliens) will occasionally use her full name as well, but it is not anyone else’s default. this is also the way itsuki and fujiwara are seen referring to her most often, though itsuki also uses “tachibana-san.”
KUYOH IS REFERRED TO AS... - KUYOH-SAN by everyone who isn’t yuki or kuyoh. if a major character isn’t mentioned as doing otherwise below, this is what they call her. - SUOH-SAN by kunikida, but he also uses kuyoh-san.. - KUYOH by fujiwara, taniguchi, and kyon. - FULL NAME by yuki. a lot of supernatural characters (especially aliens) will occasionally use her full name as well, but it is not anyone else’s default.
YASUMI IS REFERRED TO AS... - ??? we do not know the usual default for her, since she only interacts with the brigade. we can assume it is watahashi-san, based off average language conventions. - YASUMI-CHAN by haruhi and mikuru. - YASUMI by kyon
- FULL NAME by itsuki, surprisingly enough. yuki does not ever address her by name, it is unsure if this is just a coincidence or intentional giving yasumi’s true identity. however, it is not unsafe to assume kuyoh and yuki may refer to her this way as well given their defaults.
OTTILIE IS REFERRED TO AS... - T by everyone who isn’t yuki or (presumably) kuyoh. if a major character isn’t mentioned as doing otherwise below, this is what they call her. - MYSCLUB T by kyon (but he mostly calls her T, i just thought this was a funny instance). - LIE by tsuruya. - FULL NAME by no one that thing is so fucking long. i think yuki should use it for shits and giggles tho.
TANIGUCHI IS REFERRED TO AS JUST TANIGUCHI BY EVERYONE. KUNIKIDA IS REFERRED TO AS JUST KUNIKIDA BY EVERYONE. MORI IS REFERRED TO AS MORI-SAN BY EVERYONE. (NOTE: kyon theorizes itsuki may not be so formal with her behind closed doors.)
KYON’S SISTER IS REFERRED TO AS LIL’ SIS (OR “KYON’S SISTER”) BY EVERYONE.
FOR EVERY OTHER CHARACTER, REFER BACK TO DEFAULT OR LOOK AT THEIR CANON TITLE (EX: THE COMPUTER CLUB PRESIDENT).

SA's bill to ban conversion practices 'worst in Australia'
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/sas-bill-to-ban-conversion-practices-worst-in-australia/
SA's bill to ban conversion practices 'worst in Australia'
Survivors of harmful LGBTQ “conversion” practices have given a scathing review of the South Australian government’s draft legislation to ban the practices.
Conversion practices – sometimes referred to as “conversion therapy” – seek to change or suppress a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity.
Major medical bodies, including the Australian Medical Association and Australian Psychological Society, all condemn the practices as ineffective, harmful and dangerous. Many subjected to them have higher levels of depression, PTSD and suicidal ideation, research shows.
The South Australian Labor government introduced the draft bill to ban the practices earlier this month.
Attorney-General Kyam Maher said the legislation sends a message to LGBTQIA+ people “you are loved just the way you are”. Maher said the legislation aims to protect people “from abuse at the hands of the small number of groups who perpetrate these practices.”
‘Loopholes, limitations and ambiguities’
However survivors from South Australia and nationally, who want the harmful conversion practices banned nationwide, say the state’s “tokenistic” bill is “deeply flawed” and will instead allow conversion practices to continue.
The draft bill has “loopholes, limitations and ambiguities” that will “embolden those who engage in conversion practices,” according to a joint statement from groups including SOGICE Survivors and the Brave Network.
“The bill’s definition does not account for the coercion, manipulation and conditioning that invariably precede conversion practices, known as ‘inducement,’” they warn.
The bill allows all conversion practices to continue if they occur on a single occasion. It does not allow independent third-party reporting.
“[The bill] sets an impossibly high bar for enforcement,” the groups report, and even give cover for the practices to continue.
‘Worst in Australia’
Russell Hoile, a conversion survivor advocate based in Adelaide, said the government has failed to understand the issue due to a lack of consultation.
“It is not fair for the government to ask us to welcome this bill,” he said.
Veteran South Australian LGBTQIA+ campaigner Dr Michael Pilling said the government had failed to consult with survivors of conversion practices.
“It’s shameful that the first Australian state to decriminalise homosexuality, is now positioning itself to be the worst in Australia on conversion practices,” he said.
It’s understood the bill is up for debate in the South Australian parliament on Tuesday.
Dr Pilling, national group Just.Equal and survivors’ groups say the bill must be amended and strengthened before it passes the state’s upper house.

Some observations on this section relationship chart in Legend of Soulcalibur. (Showing only the Ryukyu Kingdom half from page 15. The rest deals mostly with the Korean characters.) The darker green section is about Maxi himself (in the red-lined box) and his pirate crew. From left to right:
Maxi's father was a merchant connected with the royal palace. (I'm paraphrasing.)
His dying wish was for Maxi to see the vast world.
Maxi's crew form out of his father's merchant fleet. (Loosely paraphrasing.)
Out of all the named characters here, only his sworn brother Kyam (キャン) is in the darker green box with the rest of the crew.
Yagaji (ヤガジ), who made Maxi's nunchaku Fatibal, disembarks from the ship owing to his injuries. (I can't find specifics for the life of me.)
There's also Cadena (カデナ)... or Kadena in New Legends of Project Soul, but I'll get to that. She started tagging along after being rescued as a castaway by Maxi's father. She became a pirate, but ended up staying behind because she was too young. (Probably the reason for this throwaway line from Kyam in Maxi's Soul Chronicle after Lyla is invited aboard: "Tch. Cadena's gonna be jealous.") Also, she had a bit of a crush on Kyam. (Rough translation: "faint awakening of love".)
Li Long, under the alias Zhang Wu (張武) taught Maxi nunchaku techniques on a ship out of Japan. Bold move of him to use the name of the assassin sent after him for deserting (he's mentioned elsewhere in this book).
On the right, we're back on familiar territory with Astaroth wiping out (most of) Maxi's crew. And Kilik's friendship with Maxi.
I cut it off, but that bit at the top right is about Xianghua mistaking Maxi for Li Long. (I swear I'm not misreading that.)
Speaking of Yagaji and Cadena/Kadena, according to New Legends of Project Soul (page 121), they got together at some point and had a son Shushin. It seems that Sushin was meant to figure in a side-plot involving the invasion of Ryukyu by the Satsuma Domain's forces.

COVER-UP?
South Australia has delayed the introduction of its state-based Voice to Parliament, just months from the referendum to decide whether to create a national Voice.
The SA Government had promised to establish the state-based Voice, and said it would dispel fears and give people comfort ahead of the national vote.
But Aboriginal Affairs Minister Kyam Maher said the establishment of the South Australian Voice was “causing confusion”, ahead of the referendum.
Could it be that the introduction of this state-based Aboriginal Voice would expose the negative reality to Australians before the referendum?
This SA Voice was never taken to a state-referendum and the current polling for the national Voice is nose-diving. Thus it’s likely this has been buried for political reasons, akin to a cover-up, before the national vote.
