Mayor David Bing (November 24, 1943) is a retired Hall of Fame basketball player, former mayor of Detroit, and businessman.
After starring at Syracuse University, he played 12 seasons in the NBA as a guard for the Detroit Pistons, Washington Bullets, and Boston Celtics. He averaged over 20 points and six assists per game and made seven NBA All-Star appearances, winning the game’s MVP award. The Pistons celebrated his career accomplishments with the retirement of his #21 jersey. He was elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and named one of the NBA’s 50 Greatest Players of all time.
He founded Bing Steel, a processing company that earned him the National Minority Small Business Person of the Year award. Soon the business grew into the multimillion-dollar Detroit-based conglomerate, the Bing Group, one of the largest steel companies in MI.
He entered Detroit politics as a Democrat in 2008, announcing his intentions to run for mayor in the city’s non-partisan primary to finish the term of Kwame Kilpatrick. After winning the primary, he defeated Interim Mayor Kenneth Cockrel, Jr., and was sworn in as mayor in May 2009. He was re-elected to a full term. He thus did not seek re-election in 2013. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence

Changes Happening Fast: NYC Mayor Adams Makes Big Immigration Move After Phone Call With Trump

On Thursday morning, one day after the election and after speaking on the phone with President-elect Donald Trump, New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced that he is not renewing a controversial -- and expensive -- food voucher program that provided debit cards for migrant asylum seekers.
"As we move towards more competitive contracting for asylum seeker programs, we have chosen not to renew the emergency contract for this pilot program once the one-year term concludes," Mayor Eric Adams's Office said in a statement.
The program has reportedly cost the state of New York $3.6 million since March. It provided money cards to 2,600 families with around $350 per week for a family of four to buy food and baby supplies. The program was pitched as a way to save taxpayers money because previous methods produced waste when prepared food was not eaten or was deemed "culturally insensitive."
New York's immigrant crisis has seen over 200,000 immigrants flood New York City since 2022, with more immigrants than New Yorkers in the DHS system—65,000 in the city's care—and their cries for help to the federal government being largely unheard.
While Mayor Adams is stuck to the main Democrat fighting points—abortion, protection of immigrants, and the rights of the LGBTQ community—he congratulated Trump on his win and said that he spoke with the president-elect on Wednesday, and they discussed how they might work together to better New York.
“I communicated with the president yesterday to state that there are many issues here in the city that we want to work together with the administration to address,” Adams said. “The city must move forward and that is what our call is to do.”
He refused to answer questions about Trump's deportation pledge and if he will cooperate with authorities despite New York being a sanctuary city, causing a stir among left-wing circles.
Mayor Adams has learned the hard way that the fantasies of the Left are much harder to live out in reality. It's easy to talk about immigration when it doesn't directly affect your city or state on a large scale. New York has gotten a small taste of what border states live with every day. Adam's actions may show that he is ready for decisive change -- and perhaps some relief.
The story unfolding between Mayor Adams and Donald Trump in recent months has been an unpredictable alliance after Trump expressed empathy for Adam's legal challenges, which the president-elect believes were in retaliation for the mayor criticizing Biden's immigration policies.

Then, in late October, during the height of the election, Mayor Adams condemned the inflammatory, hyperbolic speech of Donald Trump.
“I have had those terms hurled at me by some political leaders in the city, using terms like Hitler and fascist,” said Mr. Adams, a former police officer. “My answer is no. I know what Hitler has done and I know what a fascist regime looks like.

During Trump's first term, he commuted the sentences of former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich and former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, who were both Democrats. It has been speculated that he could pardon Adams too.
While Trump has not specifically commented on whether or not he would pardon the mayor, he has been explicit on his plans to clean up the national immigration crisis.

It would surely help folks understand how he got in over the wonderful
@mayawiley
.
We all were scratching our heads over that mess.
And I’m not saying that New York with maya Wiley would have changed New York for the better or worse but after having Eric Adams as the mayor and he’s been exposed as being corruptive, I wouldn’t be surprised if those who voted for him are like “geez none of this would have happened if maya was the mayor “
When people tell you that you should not only vote in every election but do your research they mean it and don’t just vote because of the candidate race or gender either, just because they are a certain race, gender or ethnicity or anything doesn’t mean a hill of beans if they are not really for the people who voted for them. Don’t believe me? Ask Michigan voters after they voted for Kwame Kilpatrick for mayor back in 2001 and again in 2005 and he turned out to be corruptive and he got a 28 year sentence in federal prison for similar charges that Adams is facing right now before President Donald Trump pardoned in January 2021 after he served 76 months of his 336-month sentence

Multiple rallies, US Steel, and several disgraced politicians
10:46 a.m. EDT: "Michigan GOP using ex-Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick in radio ad promoting Trump"
I truly did not know we were letting this man back into the state, but he keeps popping up this year like a bad penny. Detroit has had bad luck with mayors for most of my life, but this guy really takes the cake (Dave Bing is up there too, if not for the bankruptcy, then for his heinous mustache). As a child of the early 2000s that grew up with parents that watched cable news, I can say with complete certainty that if I ever hear the phrase "Sex and Texts" again, it'll be too soon.
1:04 p.m. EDT: "Feds move to take Rick Johnson's 40-acre property to satisfy corruption scandal debt"
Ah, it's been too long since Weed Batman has made the news. Michigan's GOP has always been an absolute clown show - if the above news story wasn't enough proof, I can tell you about Kristina Karamo and her fight against demons - and this guy is no exception. To get all the out-of-towners up to speed, he (the speaker of Michigan's House of Representatives) took a bunch of bribe money from dispensary owners before recreational weed was legal, then used it to (among other things) pay a sex worker who called him "Batman." He's currently appealing his sentence and refusing to pay the money he owes the state, hence the property seizure. Never change, Michigan.
2:23 p.m. EDT: "U.S. Steel CEO discusses Nippon merger in Detroit"
My father, a man who has spent a not insignificant amount of his life in and around US Steel plants, calls the company and its higher-ups "Useless Steel." I myself have made my way to the local mill, and besides being a great setting for pictures, I wasn't impressed. Biden is short sighted as usual; the company will fold without help in the form of either government or foreign money. Unfortunately, many politicians don't see the value in shining up the Rust Belt.
3:04 p.m. EDT: "Vance in Michigan: Trump needs more Secret Service protection from assassination attempts"
I mean, this is only true if you believe the Secret Service is invested in keeping him alive. I'm joking, but honestly, things are going to get worse before they get better re: the assassination attempts. I mean, two separate women tried to kill Gerald Ford, a man it's impossible to have any strong feelings about, so I'm predicting a few more attempts before November rolls around.
3:57 p.m. EDT: "Eastern Market cancels next tailgate after shooting, will work to create 'weapon free zone'"
Controversial opinion, but I think all of Eastern Market should be a weapon free zone. As I write this, I know the conclusion to this whole saga, but I'll save it for tomorrow.
9:37 p.m. EDT: "Trump in Flint: China will 'dominate' EV race, Michigan an auto industry 'afterthought'"
Wow, this is the worst thing to happen to Flint since Rick Snyder decided they didn't need clean drinking water! Again, joking here, but I just don't get this coverage. The rally was an unintelligible mess of unresearched garbage that (for some reason) prominently featured Sarah Huckabee Sanders. He didn't say this. He said a jumble of words that could amount to this if you squint really hard and pretend you're talking to a four year-old.
On a personal note:
I find myself both excited to spend time with my friends and eternally vexed by their need to bring their significant others with them everywhere. I understand the closeness one wants to feel with their partner, and in all but a few cases, I find my friends' partners delightful; I'm going to be a hater about it though. Oh well, maybe I'm just a bitter old spinster whose idea of a good night is eating soft pretzels and drinking vodka spritzes on a patio with her mom (which is coincidentally what I did tonight).
Until tomorrow,
DM
