Heyo! Director's commentary on the start of The Last Cold Week in November? Especially the way it starts in medias res. Also this section specifically:
because a) I love the past/future line, you nail Venti's sort of learned helplessness when it comes to time, and b) I love the way he then goes through multiple senses to ground himself in the present without you spelling out what he's doing.
I still need to leave comments on your fics and read Believe in Love's Harbour- huge apologies for procrastinating that- but I've revisited the first two KVCU fics more than once. They're good shit.
Before the ramble- thank you so much, I love hearing that. Honestly just interacting with my socials and talking to me about kvcu is kind enough, though I'd be delighted to read your comments. BILH is kinda my baby at the moment, so I hope you enjoy it when you do read! I worry it has a bit of a slow start, but I think what it builds to is ultimately worth it. Thinking about kvcu part 1 over a year later is so weird. I think it holds up just fine, I reread it myself recently (I reread my works from time to time to refresh myself on stuff I established before when writing newer stuff), but this fic is probably the laziest with the actual writing since it was my return to writing after years of not writing anything. I think before this fic the last thing I had written was a ghost chapter of my partner's taz balance x ndrv3 rewrite. There are echoes of things in this fic I had intended to spell out in future installments that I ended up not going through with (my opinion/perspective on Kaeya ended up changing) and now those things are just In There, but they're probably things only I would notice.
I tend to start a lot of fics in media res because I like to begin stories with a scene that will be setting up the themes. The intro of November was written later (the sequence where Albedo shows up to the party I believe was the first scene I wrote for this fic) but I knew with Venti as my POV character I needed to check in with him first. A quiet, introspective moment of what could possibly be going through his mind would ask the reader the question of why is the chipper Anemo Archon so downcast? Well keep reading and he'll tell you! That said the themes in part 1 were less established than later stories I wrote, but I did manage to bring it back around for the conclusion!
As for the focus on his senses, I'm 90% I wrote that because I've been in CBT and practiced mindfulness for my own mental health. I get the impression that Venti detaches from reality easily since he doesn't experience time the way a normal person does, but doing tactile things like touching surfaces + focusing on smells and sounds keep him checked in with everyone else.

The Birthday Song(s)
I often listen to music while I’m writing, and it’s nearly always to one of my two favorite college radio stations: WPRB in Princeton, NJ, or KVCU in Boulder, CO. No Spotify or Pandora for me.
I often listen to music while I’m writing, and it’s nearly always to one of my two favorite college radio stations: WPRB in Princeton, NJ, or KVCU in Boulder, CO. No Spotify or Pandora for me. The other day the DJ Dana K from WPRB decided to celebrate her birthday by playing during her two-hour show songs only from the year she was born. What a cool idea, I thought. I’d never looked back at…

SOME LISTS BY DINA HORNREICH
In a not-so comprehensive (mostly desultory) manner I have thrown this list of current zeitgeisty kinds of things that I encountered in one way or another that had various compelling bits, chunks, and other substantial nuggets (if not their complete entirety) of a musical persuasion that provided something engaging, amusing, enlightening, challenging, discordant, or otherwise worthwhile for my freaky mind, body, and soul to chew on in this last year of 2019. There are always tons and tons of things that I missed and/or never got to (but always meant to) so not exhaustive whatsoever. More a reflection of where I’ve been these days and how I’ve gotten here... (and will try to remain, if circumstances allow.)

● 2 Dope Queens (HBO Season 2, Episode 3)
● Trinkets (Netflix Series, Season 1)

● KGNU 1390 AM (local station)
● Radio 1190AM KVCU (local station)
And to go full circle around in the weird miasmic disorientations of blogs/zines, and every tool in between...I could mention the writers at Bust, Bitch, Pitchfork, even… DAGGER. But credit for discoverability also includes the vending platforms of Spotify/Bandcamp/Apple Music/Soundcloud themselves (and their haunted algorithms) as well as musicians’ various social media counterparts (which may or may not include their publicists) on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc. (and where does YouTube fit in exactly?) which means the industry will eventually eat itself. Happy New Year, ladies and germs. Who knows what the next decade will bring? Whatever it may be, let it be progress rather than random changes for no apparently good reasons.

I remember being quite taken with this song, they played it on KVCU radio all of the time. Sara Lapsley, who proved to be quite a capable songwriter, used to be in Kreviss, an impressive army of guitar-weilding broads whom you should check out.
you told us to stop split up and form teams well son, there's great lengths and then there's extremes I'm sure we'll reach them I'll ply her with treats and I'll teach them there's two of us that's one too many but someone has got to run free it's fun to watch them run free free, yeah power and the glory make me treacherous magazines make me literous but you will see clearly transparencies are easy to see through and saturday was nothing new a semi-circle of friends a tattered string of loose ends and loose means birds fly and actors try out for tragedies written on a whim defined by the fact that no one's listening they told us to stop split# up and form teams I could go to great lengths while you go to extremes

And have a ⭐, go off about something of your choice too
Ok, getting around to this almost a full day later, had to think about 1 thing to really gush about from 1-2 since I know you haven't finished 3 yet. Gonna go with this passage from Jealousy's Storm because I kept coming back to it as I was thinking about what to share.
(Alt text managed to get the whole thing even!)
I love this sequence. Fun fact Jealousy, Jealousy was the working title for this fic and it was originally much shorter and something I wrote in my phone notes after I finished Last Cold Week just to play with new ideas to keep writing. Objectively that version of the fic was... less good. When I started on the new version that would eventually become this fic, the last scene is what I started with, then I worked backwards to fill in the necessary chain of events, then edited the final scene to make more sense with what I came up with. But this passage stayed almost untouched the entire time, because it just worked really well for me.
I am a big sucker for quiet moments like this where an action is betraying the emotions. Kaeya won't admit he's in love with Venti for a while yet but the minute he sees him, wet and pathetic, outside his door he doesn't even question trying to shelter him, even if he just tried to push him away. And Venti chooses to go back to Kaeya's after insisting that he shouldn't! They both act according to feelings they won't put into words yet and barely skirt around not addressing here.
Also this moment is the first time I used nini in a fic publicly. Hilichurlian for powerful wind, I developed this extremely fanfic-ey pet name when I first started playing them like dolls in my head, but hesitated to use it right away, wanting to wait for the right moment. Venti implies Kaeya's called him that before, and that's cause in my head he's been saying it for as long as they've been friends, initially just because Kaeya probably thought it was funny to use Khaenrian to address him, same principle as his other notes in the language and his 2021 Windblume poem.

New Radio Home Info
by Andy Schlichting, WBB SID
Colorado’s women’s basketball team has a new radio home for the 2017-18 season, moving to 630 KHOW on AM radio. All but four games will be broadcast on the new home; however tonight’s season opener at Samford is one of the four that will be on 1190 KVCU. Here are the four games not on 630 KHOW:
11/10 at Samford (1190 KVCU)
11/24 vs. Mississippi Valley State (1190 KVCU)
1/12 vs. USC (1190 KVCU)
1/19 at Arizona (1190 KVCU)
Those four games have previously-scheduled conflicts on the new radio home.
As a reminder, live audio for all games is available for free online through cubuffs.com/showcase.
In addition, all home games and all Pac-12 games are either televised on Pac-12 Networks or streamed online for free through Pac-12 Plus.
Tonight’s game at Samford, which tips off at 5 p.m. MT, will be streamed on the SoCon Digital Network.
