𝓹𝓪(𝓰)𝓱𝓲𝓷𝓰𝓪

Two words, 𝓹𝓪𝓰-𝓱𝓲𝓷𝓰𝓪 and 𝓹𝓪𝓱𝓲𝓷𝓰𝓪. Breathe and rest.

For the past few months I could feel that my mental health status is declining. I could not acknowledge it at first for the reason that I think that it is a sign of a weakness and I cannot show weakness since I am a Mom, I am the first-born child, I am the eldest sister, I am a social worker, and I am a mental health professional worker. I cannot give up. I have a lot of responsibilities in ny shoulder and I have to fight.

But sometimes, the more I hold on, the more I push myself into believing that everything is fine it becomes worst up to the point where I became anxious and stressed over the things that I cannot control anymore.

I get tired. I cannot breathe. It feels like even the air that I am breathing is not for me anymore. I feel like giving up. But God is really good. I prayed and he send people to help me.

I always tell my parents my plans as an assurance that their daughter still has a plan on her life and they would always make me feel their support and love. They always tell me that I should wait and take my time. Really, it is just me who is putting pressure to myself since I saw people at my age or younger than me achieved greater things that I was so blinded by it that I cannot see how far I have reached. Thank you Mommy and Dadi Mey for always making me feel loved, secured and heard.

Myy brother, Karl, he may not give me advices but he is still there to listen and to comfort me. Also, to confront me when I did something off.

I felt suffocated until I got the urge to tell Ate JenyBeth how I really feel. People see me as a happy and jolly person but my thoughts are eating me. Thank you Ate Jen for saving me while I am drowning in my thoughts thinking I am not good enough and I am not worthy since I am always comparing myself to other people’s achievements. Thank you for reminding me that we are all uniquely good and that I am me.

I wanted to rest.

And God gave that to me.

Kim, Ate Ran and I really has a plan to go on a trip to breathe and to take a rest.

But the Lord is good. He knows what I need. He knows what to do. He has plans for me.

A week before our trip, my friends from work asked me to go with them at La Union. Nature healing really works for me. I can breathe and at the same time, I can rest. Even if it is just a day, I coul feel the serenity and the peaceful life I can have and I can choose.

The week after, our trip was pushed through despite of a lot of obstacles due to work schedule. Thank you everyone in the trip, our organizer and coordinator Macoy Adventure, the three couples who are our new friends now, Ate Julie and Kuya Noel, Kay and Ron, and Ate Sienna and Kuya Wil. Thank you so much to my friends who got really the best chemistry of each other, my high scool tropa John Robert, my college best friend Kim Aguilon, my college friend Allen Dela Cruz and my workmate Ate Ran Odango (sorry hindi ko kayo mahanap sa tags huhu).

My two weekends has been fun. A lot of realizations come in and I took my time to realize and acknowledge that: 1) This is just a phase, this will pass through. 2) Acknowledging that something is wrong with me is not a weakness, but a strong will to live and change myself for the better. 3) I have a support system. I am not alone not like what I used to believe. There are people who loves me, supports me and cares for me. ❤️

With all that, I am not ready again to face adulthood together with my role as a mother. I am now ready to breathe again and re-focus my mind towards my goals without looking or comparing myself to others. 💗 Self-love must really comes first in that I can also take care and love the people who is always there for me.

Stars Shine Bright at AOG 2024: Ivan Steve Mejica and Andrea Mavy Sutton Crowned Ambassadors of Goodwill

The stars aligned with the candidates who stood out in the annual search for Mr. and Ms. Ambassador/Ambassadress of Goodwill (AOG) 2024 held at Teatro Ibabawnon in Eastern Samar State University (ESSU)-Main on October 17, 2024 in the afternoon. 

The event would not have been possible without the cooperation and full force support of all the officers and members of the Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA)-ESSU Chapter headed by the very active and dynamic President, Ms. Pacita Mae Pajares, with the support and guidance of our college dean and our untiring instructors. 

The event was planned in advance for it to be fully prepared and to give every house team the time to choose their candidates who will represent their house in the search. Despite all the unexpected circumstances that had happened, the pageant was successfully done.

It started smoothly and all the candidates were stunning and good-looking with the poise of a true king and queen. When the time they first appear at their jeans wear, their introduction, all the supporters of the five respective houses, namely, Elaris, Verdantia, Sylvania, Arboris, and Luminara, let their loud cheers ring out the venue, which added to the excitement and intense feeling while watching the event. 

 And there were us, sitting not too far from the stage to give our full support to the candidates, especially to Kristelle (Elaris), Ivan Steve (Verdantia) and Chris John (Sylvania), our classmates who joined the said event. As a member of the House of Elaris, I admit that I was naturally biased toward Kristelle and Kuya Ralph.

Our candidates really gave a good fight, however, it wasn't their time yet, I believe. But still, they are already the Mr. and Ms. AOG 2024 of the House of Elaris from the time they accepted the offer to be our official candidates as nobody wanted to. And as part of the non-academic department headed by Kuya Yorie Abuda, our Vice President, I've personally witnessed their struggles in competing in this pageant, such as managing their time for studies and for the late-night practices, their pasarela, the pressure they felt, and the self-doubts they always shared with us. Thus, we made sure that they would feel supported in any way possible. Indeed, it was a win-or-learn memory for both of them.

Furthermore, our classmate, Ivan Steve Mejica from the house of Verdantia, was crowned the Mr. Ambassador of Goodwill 2024 and bagged several special awards, such as the Virtual King, Mr. Popularity, and Best in Barong Tagalog. On the other hand, our senior, Ms. Andrea Mavy Sutton from the house of Sylvania, was crowned as the Ms. Ambassadress of Goodwill 2024 and bagged almost all of the awards except for the Virtual Queen and Ms. Popularity award.

They've really impressed the judges with their beauty and wit, thus, they were chosen to represent the local chapter of JPIA in the upcoming Regional Mid-Year Convention in Tacloban City in November this year. Indeed, their determination and commitment have finally achieved great things.

Every one of them Lord helped and made my life beautiful. They stayed with me guided me helped me considered me and now I’ve hurt them all. Everywhere I went and go Lord I always hurt people. I am aware that I am hurting them but I don’t want it Lord. A WEEK OF SEM-BREAK AS A REGSAY

As a student that is dedicated to his studies also needs a break, especially after exams. According to the DepEd Order No 32 series of 2023, a mid-year beak for the current schoolyear 2023-2024 is scheduled on January 23-26 and on January 29-30. The given break was a blast, I got to do whatever I want like playing online games, gala with friends and spending a lot of time with my family. I also did some advanced reviews on the subjects and practiced on the recently concluded event namely “SCHOOL BASED PRESS CONFERENCE” where almost Regsay joined and competed, starting from Grade 7 to Grade 12 (the final year ate’s and kuya’s). By the way, I participated in column writing for the individual activity and collaborative desktop publishing for the group contest on the second day of the event which Saturday.

On the second day, I slept a lot (as in a lot) and I just played video games. But then something came in y mind (like what if’s) that if I want to improve my grades, my memorization skills, and especially improve my stock knowledge and also knowledge about the subjects especially the hard ones for me for the upcoming 3rd quarter, I need to study. So I kicked my butt of and started finding my sisters notes and Power Point then reviewed for hour, I also created some articles and searched lectures and the latest topics that the proctors might give us on the day of the contest that may help me enhance my Column Writing skills. I have found out that one of the latest topics that we might encounter are the presidential rivalry od president Marcos\Duterte and about the lotto schemes.

While I was reviewing, I realized that it was already Saturday, time is so fast right? So, I quickly prepared my things to bring on our boarding place which is near to our school.

On a special Sunday, my mom told us to get ready and called my family to go attend the mass at Saint Paul the Apostle Parish at 9:00 am near to Cabagan Square Park and then after the mass we headed to Xentro Mall, Cabagan for the advance celebration of my sister’s birthday which is de on Monday where we have classes. To be exact, her birthday really is on February 5 and adding to that it is her Chapter 15! We celebrated at Mang Inasal where we ate a lot the we also y some extra grocery for our boarding house and for our home too.

Then I came back to what I left which is practicing and reviewing like crazy. I slept over midnight because it is so near and I’m hoping that I’m one of the qualifiers.

On the last day of our Mid-Year Break I am very excited and nervous at the same time. I cannot wait to attend our School Based Press Conference. Also, my mom left first because they are also preparing for their class resumption and school-based press conference.

A week of Sem-Break is enough for me, because I’m a regsay who is an achiever and I am putting my studies first. I’m ready to sacrifice everything for the better future and for a high grade; and lastly, I always remember to value our future and remember that “Education is not a preaparation for life: education is life itself” by John Dewey. Also “the key to life is to develop internal moral, emotional G.P.S that can tell you which way to go” quoted by Oprah.

I'm so fucking-less tired today... I need to talk to Kuya Erning just to ask if he clean the water filter coz all of us is having a bit of diarrhea... But not accusing just simply asking...

The morning is not good today, it is like a showdown of poops of both nana and John... John poops is in the kitchen floormat but today is somehow huge and 2 poops on 2 other places....

Nana accidentally had her loose poops on the floor before going to the bathroom and inside the bathroom floor. It is really hellish this am... Not my ideal life... I'm earning nothing here hahaha This is my nana and family but I used to be spoiled but we can't afford yaya and helpers anymore...

The connection of electric on Uncle DD is back but it seemed everything were "intentional" scary character...

I need to get a job and I need money... Trying to make friends or get a bf to be my shoulder to lean on these days or a good hearted person to assist me on money... A philantropist with love and care...

Once again, this is not my ideal life... I always want to have love and security... I feel fear and I worry so much and I'm not happy...

I don't know if Mitch and some other people that I know from the past years of my life, are having that kind of "chaotic entanglement" and they used my name or me? Coz I was supposed to be the baby...The baby right?

The baby that can be used to link themselves on each other's mystery chain... An unfair entanglement at my back, just like my anger point on my Aunt Ten/Tin and the cousin that I like most my cousin-white, what happened from the past years? If they did have entanglement on people that I know or probably a past crowd or worst a crashing of each other's physical aspect like a blended toppings on the ice cream of first and 2nd degree cousin's. It is a mystery and unfair linking without my knowledge. WHAT IS THEIR PURPOSE?

Reportage : Surviving on Society's Scraps

Aiden and Richard are two siblings who live in the slums of Tondo, particularly in the Smokey Mountain area. They are part of a growing population of scavengers in the area, who search for recyclable materials within the mountains of trash that have accumulated over the years. On a typical day, Aiden and Richard can be found wandering through the heaps of waste, sifting through piles of debris with practiced ease. The smell of rot and decay fills the air, but they hardly notice it anymore. Through the different challenges and opportunities they face the life as scavengers and reveal the complex reality of poverty, resilience, and social inequality in urban areas like Tondo, highlighting the urgent need for sustainable and equitable development policies that address the root causes of poverty and empower marginalized communities to overcome their socio-economic barriers. Their eyes scan the endless expanse of garbage, seeking out anything that can be sold for a profit, they carry sacks on their backs, ready to collect anything of value.

The brothers' small frames and sunken eyes betray the harsh realities of their daily lives. Yet, it is clear that they have developed a certain resilience to their hardscrabble existence in the slums of Tondo. Aiden, the older of the two, is the more vocal of the siblings. He tells her younger brother that they wake up every morning at 4 AM to start their search for anything that they can turn into cash. They pick through heaps of garbage in Smokey Mountain, hoping to find something that is worth selling. Richard, his younger brother, is quieter but just as hardworking.

They both share the responsibility of sifting through the garbage, constantly on the lookout for anything valuable. The stench of the garbage is overwhelming, but the brothers always say "Sanay na kami ". Aiden tells me that they have been doing this for as long as he can remember, and it's the only way they know how to make a living. As they work, they chat and joke with the other scavengers around them. They are part of a close-knit community that has formed around the tough living conditions of the slums. They share meals and help each other out with their work. It's a hard life, but they know no other way.

At times, they come across items of interest - a piece of copper wire, a discarded machine part or even a discarded electronics device. These items are like gold to them, and they quickly add them to their sacks. Despite the harsh living conditions, Aiden and Richard are happy. They enjoy their work and the camaraderie of their fellow scavengers. They know their life is far from perfect, but they are proud of their ability to survive and provide for themselves and their family.

Despite the hardships they face every day, the brothers remain hopeful and optimistic. Aiden tells me that he dreams of being able to provide for his family someday. He says he wants to give them a better life than what they have now. Every day, they hope to find enough to make a decent living. Aiden always say to his younger brother..

"Pag nag sipag tayo at marami tayong nakuhang kalakal ngayon, bibili tayo ng masasarap at maraming pagkain".

And Richard replied.

"Talaga kuya, talagang sisipagan ko ngayon para makarami tayo".

As they go back to their small home, they are greeted by the warm embrace of their mother. She asks about their day, and they tell her about the items they found and the people they met. They sit down together to share a modest meal of rice and beans, grateful for the little they have. As they settle in for the night, Aiden and Richard can hear the distant sounds of the city beyond their home. For a moment, they dream of a better life, but then they remember the reality of their situation. They are scavengers, living in the slums of Tondo, but they are also survivors, and they know they will make it through another day.

It's a harsh reality that many people in the slums of Tondo face, with thousands of families struggling to make ends meet. But for Aiden and Richard, there is no other choice but to keep working hard every day to survive. Despite the barren landscape and scarce resources, I couldn't help but notice the fierce determination in their eyes, the resilience in their steps, and the unwavering support they offered each other. They scavenged tirelessly, always sharing their findings and working together to make the best of what little they had. As a journalist, it was an honor to witness their story and share it with the world, reminding us all that even in the darkest of times, there is always hope and humanity to be.
