Reblogging to clarify that I am, of course, not the arbiter of neglected children of alcoholics; I’m sure plenty of people with situations similar to mine don’t feel the way I do, and that’s okay!

I really dislike Atsuko

In all fairness to her and anyone who likes her—which is completely fine obviously—my reasons are personal. When I watched this for the first time, I couldn’t tell you how angry it made me to see her neglect Yuusuke while being an alcoholic (or as they sanitize it, a lush).

This is the only opinion I have that I haven’t seen come up yet (I’m sure it’s been talked to death at some point or another). I guess I’m surprised that more people aren’t like, wow that’s awful, she was so neglectful that yuusuke almost lost his body. He acts out because she’s neglectful (and he has no father figure of course). In the first episode, it seems so clear that she doesn’t parent him much, rather he feels he must be responsible for her.

Now, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with people not feeling the same way I do. I’m certain there’s things in the manga that aren’t in the anime, so perhaps my opinion would be different if I read it. But speaking exclusively in the context of the show, it bothers me that I don’t see anyone mentioning that hey, she’s super fucking neglectful.

And you can like her anyway, but I wish more people would just call it what it is—a shitty, neglectful, alcoholic parent. I have one, and let me tell you, Atsuko straight triggered me.

And no one has to agree with me either. Like I said it’s very personal and I don’t expect others to feel the same way. But like idk if you DO feel like me, I SEE YOU
