shoutout to the p4 party rebalance mod giving naoto basically every element's ultimate skill.
Tumblr media
she deserves it-
#rambearling#persona 4#p4#totally gonna use that mod my next playthrough. i need to be able to actually use yosuke the whole game#i wanted to but my friend told me he sucks and to use kanji instead 😒 /lh /silly#which. tbf probably for the best i didn't have good elec coverage on yu for like 90% of the game-#i still don't have good wind coverage though and i'm at the final dungeon. i just have like. magaru on izanagi. and garudyne on naoto#i might still have a mothman with something idr-#will probably wait until it gets updated to have a working full izanagi moveset though i have used him the whole game this playthrough#but he uh. kinda fucking sucks-#my moveset for him is like. zionga magaru media herculean strike. and then a bunch of stat moves i don't remembear-#thinking about it there's probably guides for this kinda thing online i was just fucking around and finding out#the closest i got to actually optimizing skills was fusing black frost for the shadow mitsuo fight gggffgffgdgdg-#black frost is my hecking mvp this playthrough i bearsically just use him and izanagi honestly#i don't know what i'm doing when it comes to fusing personas tbh. when i'm in the velvet room i kinda just make whatever looks cool#and then 90% of the time i don't use it cuz i have izanagi and black frost hhggfhfvfd-#basically the only thing those two can't do is light. and almighty but that's beary situational. naoto covers both of those-#and then teddie heals and has multitarget ice skills and kanji has actually good elec skills + more phys skills 👍#i'm good at this game i swear i know it really doesn't sound like it from these tags-#i beat kusumi-no-okami my first try and my friend says that fight's hard soooooo. yea 😎

somewhat coming back from the hiatus by breaking down Sumi's name cause I thought it would be fun (and because I kept asking myself why I went with 'Ku'sumi instead of 'Ka'sumi.
And, honestly? The answer is more straightforward than you think; I named her after Kusumi-No-Okami, as in the boss from Persona 4 Golden. That's it, that's the post.
Although, in hindsight, it kind of worked out and fit her character anyway. I could have gone with 'Ka' meaning flower or blossom, but instead I stuck with the 'Ku' syllable for her first name, meaning anguish, pain, hardship, all terrible things that make you feel terrible.
Which then, that syllable is followed up by 'sumi' meaning clear or pure. Tie that together with the 'Ku' syllable and a reading of her name might mean something along the lines of 'clear of anguish,' or something like that. Rather fitting for someone whose profession it is to clear others of their anguish.
Then, there's her surname, which for the most part is just straight up No-Okami (of the Gods) but without the hyphen. If I recall why I threw the 'Ki' syllable in, it was to represent the whole mental aspect that Ki represents. Like how you think of Ki in DND or Dragonball. That kind of deal, kind of intending for her surname to be Kinokami, meaning in some way God of the Mind. Is it a little much? Maybe. Maybe it's completely inaccurate and cannot possibly mean what I meant it to mean.

for all the deserved salt i give marie. there’s serious no worse written character who is so shoehorned in and forced on a protag as there is her. i didnt even romance her and on v-day she implied to have kissed me after giving me chocolate and telling me to close my eyes. there is so much about her that DEVALUES what persona 4 is and means. there is so much about her that shouldn’t exist within this game. she was never a thought from the original, and so obvious with how shoved on you and the rest of the team. don’t wear the colors you like, that’s green that’s still red. i’m not going to learn your names. i’m not going to be nice to any one of you. also i’m so gorgeous i’m going to make the least implied sexual character try to sneak a peak at me in the bath. and then i’ll create a lightning storm bc aren’t i just that amazing? “i hate you all. i hope you die” girl you make me wanna die having any scene where you’re in? i don’t know why anyone would tolerate the literal abuse this character puts on others. none of the IT would like her? she’s the most entitled character to yu’s time and affection despite the fact that each time i can be mean to her i was. i’m basically implied to be dating her from our first meeting. it’s kinda sick tbh. but she’s just so important to my destiny.
why does izanami even have to exist when perfect, i’m wearing my bargain bin hot-topic, is here to do the job for her? izanami is a terrifying character in every aspect of her role. but no, marie comes along and says: i’m a caged bird. you have to let me die. i came in here to die. pls don’t save me. i love how she stole from 2 female characters in this one timeslot alone, a third if you count izanami. naoto’s character has little screentime and her reason for going into the tv knowing she may die in the process of being kidnapped to discover the truth was reworked into marie. then, we’re going to use the same motif yukiko had on marie too. marie marie marie, you’re just so lovely. everyone loves you so much. it makes no sense? there’s no build up. there’s no depth. she’s a terrible character based off of my immortal and i hate that yu has to be the one to suffer her affections.
Kusumi-no-Okami is the only boss besides Izanami to have defeated the entire Investigation Team. i’m not even sure how to call bullshit here. bc there’s so much wrong with this statement. The fight ends with Yu using Izanagi-no-Okami to impale the shadow and free Marie. if you were gonna stab her, she wouldn’t exist anymore. izanagi-no-okami stabbed izanami, she died. it’s literally a metaphor for the righteous sword of god purging evil. marie is the evil from mankind. if she was going to kill everyone, yu would have awakened to his power a month earlier to save everyone. i don’t think he would ever spare marie for doing it. he takes things too personal. kill his friends, kill yosuke, well you can just die. it’s bullshit.
p4 is a coming of age story if there was one. the fact you add a character who is done up with anime tropes, make other characters suddenly super OOC to fit her in. she takes away from so many. including the sagiri and why adachi and namatame were picked in the first place. she is constantly insulting the velvet room, a manifestation of YU’S HEART. for a guy you’re said to love? you’re really an asshole. it hurts so much having to hear that with all the time and things i’ve poured into the velvet room. the amount atlus did for akira and minako/minato. it’s not even funny. you are literally insulting a person’s true emotions and true feelings by calling it cramped and stuffy. teddie has a scene in the limo, and it’s one of the sweetest moments of his character bc he says he never wants to leave it’s warm and nostalgic. there’s nothing good about marie’s character so i don’t see why fandom just adores her to the degree she is. she’s terrible in every scene to every single character even to where she’s literally the implied love interest? if that doesn’t make me sick idk what does. they do the same with sumi in 5, but somehow it feels worse with marie. bc even if you’re dating someone, you’re still dating marie. how fun.

want to take a crowd vote and see how people see Marie. You don't necessarily have to know the game or anything about her at all. Just look at her from her promo art, game screenshots, spinoffs, merchandise, etc. Just pick out the very first color that comes into your mind when you see her. Alright? Thank you foryour participation

Mun Plays Persona 4 Golden
Hahahaha! I did it! I finally finished the game!
Picking up where I left off, I continued the story up until Adachi was confirmed to be the killer, where he fled into the TV World. After giving chase, he fled further into his own dungeon. And for the first time, I did something a little different; I didn’t go in as soon as possible. Instead, I waited a few days to max out Marie and Naoto’s Social Links. It only took a few days and after that, I went into Magatsu Inaba. Well, up until the second floor with the exit being barred. I wandered the floor in a slight confusion until I just so happened come across the hole in the middle that I was supposed to jump through and wound up in Magatsu Mandala. I want to mention that the general feel and aesthetic of the dungeon was rather unnerving. The colors, the police tape, messed up walls and ground, and whatever made up the backdrop. It looked like a city, but also the black and red patterns seen when entering a dungeon in the TV World.
Anyway, when I reached the 4th floor, Adachi proposed a “game”. Reach the end without fighting any Shadows. I actually ignored him, thinking it was just flavor text. But when I fought a Shadow, I got kicked out of the dungeon and had to start over from the beginning of Magatsu Mandala. Eventually, I reached the end and fought the Envious Giant. It was kind of a pain, but I beat it. And instead of walking all the way back, I just used GoHo-M to warp out and enter the dungeon from the beginning at Magatsu Inaba and returned to the 2nd floor, finally reaching the portal and accessing the third floor, where Adachi was.
I kinda stomped Adachi somewhat with Yoshitsune and a powered Hassou Tobi. But I still had to try against him. Right after that was Ameno-sagiri. Again, I used Hassou Tobi, but had to actually try I also found myself using Satan more often (I got Satan just before entering the dungeon). And by the way, I had Kanji, Naoto, and Teddie in the dungeon. Eventually, I managed to win. And to my surprise, after completing the dungeon, time skipped ahead to Christmas (which I spent with Rise, of course). And I spent New Year’s with her as well. And with her grandma out, she proposed spending time at her home, only to tease by wondering if Yu had something on his mind. (Rise: If you’re thinking something naughty, right you hand. *raises her own hand*). But after a while, I turned the game off.
The next day, I spent a bit more time with Dojima, eventually maxing out his Social Link, but was unable to do the same with Nanako, as it took a while to get my Expression to the proper level. I also managed to get everyone’s Third Personas. Eventually, the group went skiing. Naoto is absolutely adorable, seeing her struggle to ski properly. Skipping a little bit further, I got lost with Rise, finding an abandoned shack Actually a toolshed. And while there, a TV turned on. This brought about the Hollow Forest Dungeon
I won’t lie, I wasn’t a big fan of this dungeon. I went with Kanji, Chie, and Yosuke and it somewhat worked out at first, since I quickly figured Physical skills were best, as I could use more while Rise would heal after battles and possibly get Cups during Shuffle Time. It didn’t exactly work out as planned. I eventually encountered the Heaven’s Giant sub-boss and it was a REAL pain to deal with! It’s strong against Physical, but Nullifies everything else. Meaning if I’m not using Physical skills, I have to use items gained across the dungeon to temporarily remove the Null status from a specific element for a few turns. Eventually, I defeated it and moved onward to the end, finding Marie, who reveals her name as Kusumi-no-Okami. The fight against Marie wasn’t too bad, but the fight against Kusumi-no-Okami was something else.
Just like the Heaven’s Giant, it Nullified everything. But unlike the Heaven’s Giant, when I mean “everything”, I mean everything. Even Physical. So I had to use my items to remove its Null for the specific element. It went on for so long (and I didn’t have a lot of them anyway), by the time I finished, I had so very few of them left. If I hadn’t defeated her when I did, I most likely wouldn’t have been able to win.
And with that done, I once again continued the story as normal, up until March 20th. I kinda had to look online to figure out what I was supposed to do for the True Ending, but only very briefly. I continued until I reached Yomotsu Hirasaka and brought in Yosuke, Chie, and Yukiko. At this point, I was quite overleveled. Like, about level 95. Skipping ahead to the end, I reached Izanami and the fight was difficult. Not so much the first phase, but the fight against her true form, Izanami-no-Okami, that was difficult. But through perseverance, strategy, and some luck (and good stats and Rise), I managed to win. At the end, all the Social Links I maxed out (i.e. the Investigation Team, Dojima, and Marie), gave Yu the strength to stand, transform Izanagi into Izanagi-no-Okami, and defeat Izanami with Myriad Truths!
And after that, Yu returned to Inaba after about a year and almost instantly, I noticed Namatame delivering speeches. And at Junes, it wasn’t too hard to notice Yosuke and Teddie, but the real surprise was seeing the rest of the Investigation Team. It took me a while before I noticed that Yosuke changed his hair slightly. Same with Chie. Her hair was hardly different. But the biggest change came from Kanji. Okay, I knew about the change, but didn’t actually see them until just now. Black hair with a different style, wearing glasses, and even completely different clothes. And Naoto looked absolutely radiant and beautiful. She was cute before, but it’s nice seeing a slightly older Naoto. And I do know she grows her hair much longer in the future. And I couldn’t tell if Teddie had any physical changes. But anyway, back home, I also saw Nanako and she was absolutely adorable!!! Weirdly enough, her hair reminded me of my own sister when she was younger. I also got to see Marie working as a weather reporter. And with that, I let the credits roll.
When they were finished, I completely turned the game off and went to the Vita store to buy Persona 3 Portable. Once I bought it, I waited for it to download. Heck, I was typing this while waiting for the game to download.

really seems like they're gonna force Nyarlathotep out of P2 and into P5 for god knows what reason, considering the return of P2's Hastur and the tentacles that wrap around Cinderella in some new screenshots. any thoughts on the shameless rehashing of a more talented writer's work for not even a new game but an enhanced rerelease?
Atlus re-release additional content is basically on the same tier as the various (Persona) spinoffs, and haven’t there been allusions to Nyarlathotep in the fighting games or something? No? Well, apparently that was just Kagutsuchi. I’m way behind on my Persona fan theories, it seems. But there were fierce Nyarly rumors surrounding the Arena games before their releases.
Tumblr media
Seems similar here. @b-reis tells me the new dungeon features the following enemies in encounters besides Byakhee & Hastur: Dionysus, Chimera, Bugs, and Nebiros. That’s so far. If there’s a theme here, what is it? A wine and ecstasy god, a monster, a teddy boogeyman, and Hell’s necromancer. It could literally be anything evil.
The idea of Nyarlathotep being the puppet master behind the entire Persona series to me is akin to the old “Hijiri is Aleph” theory (which I hope I’ve thoroughly debunked by now), mainly in that it seems way more important to overzealous fans (and those of the minority that care about the P1/2 story) than the actual writers and developers. If there is a Nyarlathotep, it would probably take on an all-new significance and context different than P1/2′s. But I wouldn’t hold your breath; Atlus likes to make their trailers and promos intentionally misleading (Catherine: Full Body).
Tumblr media
Also, who remembers Kusumi-no-Okami? I sure as hell didn’t! I don’t think I’d ever seen this boss until b-reis showed it to me. And, like, the amount of time I’ve spent since P4G’s release searching for all things Megami Tensei means I should have encountered it. Or maybe I did, and just forgot. Either way, that’s Atlus re-release stuff in a nutshell: mostly poorly written and conceived, disposable, and ultimately forgettable padding to bare-minimum justify such a double dip.

So between P3P and P4G specifically, which one do ya prefer?
If it’s a question of just P3 vs P4? P4 no question. If it’s FeMC vs P4MC? Depends on what I’m feeling like tbh klsdjf;jf (aka which I’m playing and getting the biggest feels from).
But if it’s which is a better “enhanced ver”......well....
P3P no question.
P3P (and FES) Have been the only re-releases (of Hashino era games) I believe 100% do justice to the OG while adding onto new stuff (my imperfection gripes about P3 aside). Aigis' SL is great, fits really well, and in all honest it was a dumb decision it wasn't in the original to begin with. Metis is great, the absolute best thing to come out of the Answer, the best variation on a Positive Shadow (screw you Shadow Futaba you make no sense). The Answer itself I feel is very consistent with P3's Journey (right down to Yukari being a bitch and being forgiven for it no matter how horrible she is, not that's a positive but at least the game is consistent, and that’s what I’m looking at atm, P3P/FES are consistent with it’s new content in relation to the old content, aka it doesn’t feel out of place), and it's fun to see everyone's flashback and going through their grief. And Hamu? What can I say about Hamu. I love her. She both embodies the 0 fool and the fully actualized 22 Fool. You can play her similar to Minty or you can play her as his EXACT opposite. If he encompasses the theme of death, she's the theme of life (both P3 have life/death theme since they go hand in hand but some fans forget that). The butterfly effect is great, I love I can SL all my teammates, Rio/Saori's SLs are great. I'm happy you can save Shinji especially since it makes sense (out of all the fake out deaths in Persona games, it is the most realistic). She gives a new fresh take on P3 while still keeping it in line with the themes. (aka, it’s suppose to have differences but not stray to far, and it does just that).
P4G......................... has things I like. >_> I like the gameplay changes (tho I'm fine playing the original, it's not make or break for me). I like some of the new events, both story and side SL stuff. But I hate some of the new events, both story and side SL stuff. I don't really like Marie. I have a lot of mixed feelings on her. I don't mind her in spinoff titles, I don't mind her in general as a char.....but I hate what they gave me. For me to like Marie, she needs to 1) have more interaction outside her SL with the main team (it just feels like they should just suddenly care for her) 2) Not be the "good part of Izanami" (will get to that), but instead just have her be an avatar/henchmen of Iza, aka she's NOT Izanami-no-Mikoto, she's just Kusumi-no-Okami, 3) Tone down the tsundere ness (the P4G one, the over the top "you found my poem" kind? Mostly seen in PQ1/2? That's fine, I just find she can be a biiit mean in her SL tho.....like...her attitude in the SL, esp at the beginning always has me going “Ok so like....WHY should I hang out with you? You’re just being difficult, it’s not fun” and I don’t like that).
I really don’t like what they did with Izanami. Iza is not a bad person...god..des......or whatever. She was misguided, she wants the best for humanity but doesn’t know what the best way is so she makes her weird little experiment happen. But then Marie comes along and now SHE’S the one who want’s the best via protecting them, while Iza just grants wishes. And it feels like they took a character who was pure grey neutral, and turned them into the “evil/evil-shadow” side. For a character that was suppose to help explain Iza more, she just muddied it for her. The only real stuff we learn from Iza is Iza’s reaction to Marie, otherwise it’s mostly spent on Marie and this “Izanami-no-Mikoto” they’ve pulled out. I’d rather have a Gas Station Attendant SL to give me insight on Iza than Marie (Hell, I’d love a side with Iza ending! And it’d fit right in with P4, we could even have two variations, one where we lead the world to shadow ourselves and one where we become a minor god alongside her and let the human world live peacefully for a bit....until we decide to maybe do the experiment again). Even then, we could still have Marie be just a minor goddess separte from Iza, who is helping Iza (even if she has amnesia because she forgot why, possibly because she believed in Iza’s way until she went against it so Iza wiped her memory because she still needed her), and it’s because Iza wants to help humanity and grant their wish, but Iza’s not sure what that is so she concocted this WHOLE THING to do just that. Keeps it from coloring Iza as evil, AND it actually adds characterization to the Saragiri’s more (because if Marie was a follower/shoot off of Iza, that would explain why the Saragiri’s are with Iza......considering in mythos the Saragiri’s are like....Iza’s children....yeah 8U)! Basically, it adds to what is established rather than takes it away! (which is what FES/Portable did)
(tldr; the above paragraph: Izanami has her children helping her out because they align with her for one reason or another, no Avatars, no “we’re facets of just one being,” just one big family mess)
Anyway back to ranting, one last issue with Marie as Izanami, by the end she’s like “I’m Izanami-no-mikoto” but then just becomes the town’s minor goddess of Inaba and.......shouldn’t she be OP? It feels like they made this very complicated......and it shouldn’t be..... I wanna say I need to replay it but.....it gets convoluted ;w;
I also don’t like how the game fucks you over if you choose the very wholesome friend route with Marie (I really like her friend route a lot, she’s just so happy and it’s cute). And it really is a big spit in your face with your choices mattering.
There’s also the fact....that Marie feels like she’s suddenly more special than the other girls (with the whole her grabbing the MC and hugging him, and Rise getting jealous, and being forced to have a valentines day date with her)..... And that leaves a bad taste in my mouth with that sudden favortism. “But Silly they did that with Aigis.” But......it’s different (and not a “I like Aigis more” it’s different, but it’s “It’s executed differently”). 1) Aigis is integral to the story, AND it was established in the OG game (this is the biggest point), 2) Despite the romantic coding, we don’t actually get a chance to date her in the Vanilla version, and even when we do in FES/P3P we don’t get to have the bonus date afterwards other chars get. So you can give the MC SOME leeway that while he holds Aigis very dear, it’s still a platonic relationship on his end (or at least, they don’t get the time to explore a true romance because the SL is so late in the game and then they’re dead).
But the root of it is the first part....aka...........Aigis already existed, how the game treats Aigis IS the basis of P3. It’s not for P4. The diff is a new person suddenly comes in and is like “I’m more special than all of you!” and pushes the girls to the side....and that’s not cool to the OG stuff. It feels a bit insulting when the new stuff starts to shit on the old stuff by ramming it into it. And I think that might be why P4G/P5R have a few issues, it takes a wedge and tries to hammer it into a story that.....got through itself without the add ons (I’d say “fine”, but that’d be implying I think P5 is “fine”....P4 got through fine, P5 had a whole ton of issues and P5R did not fix them in the slightest.....really just “cutting the grass while the house is on fire” kinda deal there).
“Well P3 did just fine without the Answer or FeMC! Why do you consider it fine then?” Because The Answer was a sequel, it didn’t wedge itself into the original game. And P3P started the game over from scratch, you start from the beginning. Sure a lot of things weren’t changed *sobs* but the things that were, were not because it felt like the devs were pushing the new “better” thing in anyone’s face. But because it was a natural change that needed to be made thanks to the diff MC.
Basically, Hamu/Metis felt like it had a whole game/scenario catered to them and the rest of the cast. Marie feels like she’s on standby until her scenario shows up and changes things fast and drastically (Hamu’s was slowly throughout the course of the game, IF the big options were made, showcasing the butterfly effect), and anyone who isn’t the MC feels.....left by the wayside.
