Chiaki had an interview about CherryMaho 🍒, and he was asked about BL in general, so that was an interesting read!
Some highlights:
Mentioned how his first BL role was alongside Ryouta with Makonyan as his friend (on the Kare no iru seikatsu BLCD), and that's exactly what's happening in CherryMaho too.
Said he knew 'Yaoi' before he knew 'BL'. When he was on his first year of middle school he was reading a manga that had nothing to do with BL and the word 'Yaoi' came up. He didn't have a smartphone back then, so he was just wondering: "What is Yaoi?" XD A few years later, when he was in high-school, he learnt that Yaoi meant love between men. And when he was talking to a female friend who liked BL he told her: "So you like Yaoi", and she replied: "What is Yaoi?" (because then BL was already the mainstream word for that).
He said that he first appeared on a BLCD as a mob chara, and was impressed by his senpai's work. He said Makonyan was the main in this BLCD, so based on the years, even though I can't remember it, I think he's referring to the Koubutsu wa Mayonakano Uchini Haranonaka BLCD. (At first I thought he meant Kurui Naku no wa Boku no Ban β 3, but that one came a year after.)
He thinks both him & Ryouta were chosen as main for their first BLCD together because it was a pure story so having two seiyuu doing it for the first time was just right. I must agree xD And, he's happy and think it's fate that the three of them (with Makonyan) are together on another project, because it is still very memorable for him <3
"Me and Ryouta have a really relaxed relationship... even during the break in the recording, we felt very comfortable, and I feel like we got to know each other even more through this work." <33
He never once mentioned their 'other' Cherry BLCD rofl, neither the interviewer, he only kept bringing up their first BLCD together. Maybe because it's too hardcore haha.
When recording BL, he's really happy being able to act face to face with his co-seiyuu. What he enjoys about BL is the freedom to improvise ("creating pauses between lines and breaths to match the expressions of the other person").
He's never been to a training school so he had no idea how to make kissing sounds! He learnt from watching and imitating his senpais~
He mentioned the different settings to different BLs, for example Omegaverse and Dom/Sub (he's done both). "it is necessary to have a thorough understanding of the worldview before preparing for the role." I felt like a proud mother, really!!
Regarding BL situations: "...I like stories that develop from friendship, so a childhood friend, a high school student, confesses his love just as the sun is setting after school, but it doesn't really come to fruition several years later…" Kyaaa!!
"When people of the same sex have friendship or hostility, they can build a relationship of equals, but when it develops into a relationship, they are forced to lead, protect, and be protected. I find BL interesting in the way relationships change as emotions change. I really like friendships between men, as well as the development of hostile relationships that temporarily turn into cooperative relationships, and I'm even more attracted to works that are an extension of that. I believe that there are changes in relationships and changes in emotions that would never occur between people of the opposite sex. I feel like there's something appealing about that."
Welp, that was almost the whole article, not really highlights LOL But those were my fav parts anyway. (Quotes are not my translations but Google's).
CHIAKI!! ILU SFM!! PLEASE KEEP DOING BL FOREVER!!

Growth of omegaverse in commercial BL
As with most things in Japanese BL, omegaverse first boomed in doujin works around 2014-15 period and then spread to commercial works. 2015-16 was a pivotal year for child-rearing and omegaverse BL with the publication of Welcome Home (ただいま、おかえり Tadaima, Okaeri byIchikawa Ichi.
It has been serialized in Fusion Product's Omegaverse Project anthology magazine since November 2015 and has been collected in four tankōbon volumes [first volume was published in 2016]. The series is published in English by Manga Club. An anime television series adaptation produced by Studio Deen is set to premiere in April 2024. (source: wikipedia)
In 2022, by May, 80 works had been published. Previous year, there was a dip in number of new omegaverse works published after rapid increase since 2019. In 2020, 8 times more works were published with omegaverse setting compared to when it debuted.
How does this compare to the total number of BL publications?
The proportion of omegaverse continues to be small compared to the total. In 2020, there were 160 omegaverse works out of nearly 3500 BL works. One out of every 20 BL works belongs to omegaverse. This is fairly significant for a single setting / sub-genre.
Year-wise trends and corresponding popular pairings
[Total number of works only indicate how many iterations of that pairing showed up in the market, it doesn’t indicate how well they did commercially or popularity-wise. Popularity is discussed below.]
2015 – Diversification Era
×Ω 9
β×Ω 3
α×α 1
Other×Ω 1
2015 was the year when omegaverse works began to appear in the commercial BL market, emerging out of doujin BL boom. While α×Ω pairing was obviously the first kind of pairing to become popular, β×Ω pairing wasn’t too far behind.
Omegaverse is not limited to α×Ω pairing alone. The wide range of possibilities omegaverse offered was explored early on. It can be said that the [pairing] diversity is one of the reasons for its explosive popularity.
There seems to be high affinity between BL and omegaverse, as both share unique worldviews and settings while being highly versatile, ranging from fantasy to modern day works.
It was the period when omegaverse was being tested as a setting based off on how far narratives can go without breaking the premise that Ω is the uke and α is the seme.
Overall tendency was to highlight the discrimination against Ω and the preferential treatment towards α in an easy-to-understand manner. Omegaverse as a setting was in its infancy. It was probably thought that exaggeration [of key characteristics] would popularize omegaverse.
Notable works:
Romantic Joutou
sayonara koibito matakite tomodachi
2016 – Early Odo Reversal Era
α×Ω 13
α×β 2
Ω×α 1
β×Ω 2
β×α 2
α×α 1
Ω×Ω 1
Most highly rated work of that year kashikomarimashita destiny - Devotion to death is an α×β work. Seemingly, breaking the rules can be considered a standard practice in the omegaverse BL.
As omegaverse become more popular, many a masterpiece such as Kuruinakunowa Boku No Ban and Tadaima Okaeri were created.
Compared to previous year, 2016 was witness to many epoch-making works such as Pendulum - Beastman Omegaverse, which married beastman setting with omegaverse setting.
Another notable work is Boku No High Spec Kareshisama that had a path-breaking Ω seme. It also had a β×α side pairing.
The works published in 2016 pretty much covered every possible combination in the Omegaverse.
2017 - Serious Works Era
α×Ω 17
α×α 1
Ω×Ω 1
α×β 1
β×Ω 3
Ω×α 1
In 2017, the omegaverse became even more popular than in 2016.
Continuing from the previous year, omegaverse kept exploring various possibilities. It was in 2017 that omegaverse established itself as a new genre that goes beyond the framework of special settings.
The first volume of Akabeko's Shonen no Kyoukai series, published that year, brought omegaverse close to the real world. It was around that time the setting of [secondary] gender tests being conducted at schools, which later became commonplace, first appeared. Consequently, compared to the previous years, more realistic and serious works were produced.
It’s no longer about “poor Ω and alpha who has it all”! The number of characters that went beyond typical omegaverse attributes increased, and genders combinations also diversified.
There was no set standard marking this period. The foundation laid in the years before finally paid off and the sub-genre flourished and spread.
2018 Omegaverse Boom Period
α×Ω 20
α×α 1
β×Ω 1
Other×α 1
α×Other 1
In 2018, the number of Omegaverse works has increased explosively! Total number of omegaverse BL works produced that year was more double that of previous year. A variety of settings and fetishes emerged due to an overwhelming increase in the number of artists.
While α×Ω continues to enjoy steady popularity Megumi To Tsugumi at the top, other types of pairing were also increasingly well received due to the appeal of particular works.
The aforementioned Megumi to Tsugumi and Omae No Koi Wa Ore No Mono had Ω who did not conform to the ‘cute and protected’ image instead were bigger and badder than your average α.
Omae No Koi Wa Ore No Mono
The number of works that had gap between gender attributes and individual characteristics increased. Settings also diversified. The buds of the previous year have bloomed, including beastmen, threesomes, and inc3st!
Around this time, works published the previous year or earlier got sequels and CD dramas. It also became a trend to have spin-offs of α x Ω works to have other pairings...
2019 Back-to-roots Era
α × Ω 23
Ω×Ω 1
β×Ω 2
α×α 3
α×β 1
The total number of omegaverse works in 2019 surpassed previous year count by nearly 80 books. In addition to the continuation of popular works from the previous year, it was no longer unusual to see α×α pairing or β-seme.
Marriage themed work Yukyu Omega was published.
The first volume of the child-rearing omegaverse series Kiraide Isasete was published in 2019.
It was the year that the omegaverse wave entered a new stage, just like the lives of the characters in them. That year also saw the publication of Ousama Alpha To Puppy Love that explored the themes of child-rearing and childbirth, which were relatively untouched in other BL settings prior to the omegaverse boom.
2020 Odo Omegaverse Era
α × Ω 23
β×Ω 1
The total amount of work increased yet again in 2020. The popularity enjoyed by α×Ω pairing was stronger than ever. Many of the popular series featured α×Ω pairing too. Of course, there are some works featuring other pairings, but the omegaverse odo (royal road progression) is still strong.
Even with α×Ω pairing, the attributes that were once like a chasm between characters started to come together「圧倒的攻め×圧倒的受け」「精神的にはほぼ攻め×攻め」.
The fact that some of the most popular works from the past have continued churning out newer volumes suggests that the omegaverse genre in BL will continue to grow!
There have also been some bold stories with enigmatic developments, such as Rebirth, reasserting the endless possibilities of the omegaverse.
2021 – Meta-omegaverse Era
α × Ω 17
β×Ω 1
Ω×α 1
In the year 2021 too α×Ω pair reigns in popularity. Works with a strong storyline continued to be well-received, continuing from the previous year. Works with a strong meta element, such as Kamisamananka Shinjinai Bokua No Eden was published that year.
Boku No Tsugai Ha Thoroughbred Omega explored whether or not to disclose gender – bringing in the choice not to tell. This thought-provoking addition to omegaverse is probably a reflection of reality.
2020 also saw more works that places emphasize on different scenarios and have less explicit content than in the past. In recent years, various other verses have sprouted from omegaverse such as Dom/Sub verse.
2022
α × Ω 18
α × β 2
α×Others 1
The omegaverse has established itself as a major [sub]genre. It is expected that α × Ω pairing will continue to dominate!
Fusion with new genres is steadily progressing! The Mibu No Tsugai series is a time travel BL that combined omegaverse with historical setting (late Edo period). It is clear that the omegaverse setting has become so well-established that addition of elements and setting do not affect accessibility of the subgenre.
Other notable works:
Omega Ni Dake Ha Naritakunai – isekai into an omegaverse manga
Kuzu, Omega ni Tensei by Saitou Kuzu – isekai into omegaverse
Omegaverse is easily malleable and combines well with other sub-genres and settings.

Since I am already here, I will also indicate some of my favs:
A relationship between Alphas:
Define The Relationship
A relationship between Alpha and Omegas that I personally find interesting:
Love Shuttle
In this one there's also an AlphaXAlpha relationship but I didn't read that one, I prefer the Omega and the Alpha of that one.
Kurui Naku No Wa Boku No Ban
This one is interesting, it talks about bonds and social roles, I like it. And since we're at it.
BetaXOmega:
Kurui Naku no wa Boku no Ban Beta
In this one we have a bond being broken and an Omega choosing a Beta instead of an Alpha.
AlphaXBeta:
Kashikomarimashita, Destiny
I don't like the OmegaxAlpha of that one, but the AlphaxBeta relationship is amazing.
Mr Beta
This one is cute, your honor, I call it cute.
Those are the ones that I personally like and always come back to or still read. And like I said, I never found one with OmegaXOmega. But those also explain certain dynamics and are the ones that engage outside of the same same that always find.
hey gang. give me your best shot at explaining omegaverse lore. its for science.
#personal#well if you're in the rain why not getting wet#I already admitted that I like it anyway#admittedly I only know ONE manga with a soul bond but then people will really call me furry therefor y'all don't deserve my hidden one#the indulging ones I keep for myself kkkkk#I lied Mr Beta have soul bond explaining moment

BLCD Review: Kurui Naku no wa Boku no Ban; β3
Title: Kurui Naku no wa Boku no Ban; β2 (狂い鳴くのは僕の番;β3)
Author/Artist: Kusabi Keri
Release Date: 2021/04/21
Cast:
Shingaki Tarusuke + Nakajima Yoshiki x Kobayashi Yuusuke
Furukawa Makoto x Shirai Yuusuke
Kawahara Yoshihisa
Synopsis: Third installment of the Beta series nobody asked for.
Review Proper
It’s Controversial Reviews: Season 3!
It took me 5 months to get to this point. Five. EDIT: It’s now been EIGHT MONTHS. My known dislike for this series aside, I’ve actually listened to Torokete Otoshite Jigoku Made before this, which Shingaki Tarusuke and Tachibana Shinnosuke stars in, (courtesy of my lovely Mimi) that I was horrified to listen to Shingaki here. He did pretty badly on that one, and I had a big feeling that he was going to sound bad here, too. I was even contemplating on just skipping this one altogether ‘cause I also knew that I was not going to enjoy his performance in Tsunaida later. Ono, Shingaki, is something the matter? Wasn’t SatoTaku the one struggling in 2020 and you two were the highlights? Why is it reversed now? Lmao.
Going back to the plot, I won’t talk about it too much ‘cause I don’t want to spoil it for anyone else since it is the third and last volume. Not me really wanting to just post memes about how much I hated this shit and call it a day. I will say that out of all the omegaverse series spin-off that came out when this did, this was the most unmoving and not well thought out—it’s literally a poor man’s Romantic Joutou. And, although it ran for three volumes, it was so rushed regardless. But I guess it wouldn’t be a Kusabi Keri work if it wasn’t. 🤷 Man, and here I was readying for another bar fight with the people who come to my replies trying to defend whatever the fuck the omega’s name here was, but they’ve disappeared.
Listen, the villains here are so un-fucking-believable, it’s almost funny. Co-workers throwing shade at that pussy ass bitch right in front of his face and their bosses? Excuse me? That never happens! And all the more that it won’t ‘cause it’s no secret that Utou dotes on their omegas. The fuck is that? Shiratori, the main antagonist, also has the lamest reason behind his revenge on Utou. “HoW’s It FeEL? To have your work and the person you love get taken away from you?” SCRATCH WHAT I SAID IN THE BEGINNING OF THIS PARAGRAPH. I’M SPOILING IT SO YOU DON’T HAVE TO READ IT.
Listen, listen. Shiratori really was pissy seeing how Utou hangs out so freely with omegas because he was in love with his TWIN BROTHER WHO HAPPENS TO BE AN OMEGA THAT GETS SENT AWAY TO BE PAIRED WITH SOMEONE ELSE BECAUSE THEIR DAD DOESN’T WANT TO ACCEPT THEIR RELATIONSHIP. I MEAN, DUH?! See, I would understand if Shiratori was jelly seeing Utou fucking any one of his many siblings who happens to be an omega, BUT NO! SHIRATORI’S THE ONLY BROTHER FUCKER HERE! He literally has 0 justifiable reasons behind his actions! What kind of dumbass villain is that, Kusabi Keri?! I mean, I don’t condone the isolation of his brother and their father’s discrimination towards omegas, but their father probably didn’t want to risk a scandal about his sons fucking each other, right??? This ain’t about your genders, dumbass, it’s you being a brother fucker!!!
AND, JUST LIKE WHAT I EXPECTED IN MY REVIEW FOR THE SECOND VOLUME, UTOU REALLY DID APOLOGIZE FOR EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENED WHEN NONE OF IT WAS HIS GODDAMN FAULT! LITERALLY NOBODY ELSE APOLOGIZED EXCEPT FOR HIM! WHAT THE FUCK?
And I know some of yall might like boohoo sex, but all of it was so rushed, I had vomit coming out of my nose from cringing. Don’t even get me started with that part when they have boohoo sex in front of Shiratori—
Breathe, Cheska, breathe.
Okay, enough with the plot. Let’s jump into the technicalities now ‘cause too much rage is not good for my fragile health—fuck that. I just remembered how Kawahara underperformed here when he wasn’t even a lead. I hate this franchise. Anyway, everyone else did great as expected. I honestly loved how Shingaki’s Utou proposed to Sumi here. It was the smoothest thing wtf, and it’s literally the sole highlight of this whole shitshow apart from Karasuma-san’s and Takaba’s appearance. As for the accuracy to the manga, I can’t say much since I haven’t read the raws until I started typing this review. I actually couldn’t move on with my review because of this very reason. I mean, who the heck would want to go through that hell for the second time?
I do have to admit that it’s a bit confusing to only listen to the BLCD without knowing context ‘cause there were instances where they would be warning Utou and Sumi about the consequences of voiding Sumi’s bond with Shiratori, and they don’t explain it fully. I might have missed it along the way, but I only remember the doctor saying “surgery” and “it had to be removed”, so I thought that Sumi’s dick was gonna get removed HAHAHAHA my dick fell off. I did manage to piece together that he was never gonna get another bond, will forever have his heat, and that he probably won’t live a long life, but lmao deserved.
I hate this for the nth time, and I hope Shingaki and Makonyan recognize my undying love for them. Also, I do have to add that we gotta stan Shirai Yuusuke’s Karasuma-san because that man omg. You gotta listen to him say, “I’m gonna have a smoke” and end up smokin’ dick instead.
I’m still mad that Otou-san and Sumi were able to have children while Miyabi and Takaba could not (I am hopeful tho). They deserve it, dang it.
In conclusion, I hate this plot-wise, but if you’re a fan of this, break a leg. It’s a pretty good adaptation. Thank fuck it’s the end and I can now delete Sumi and Shiratori’s existence out of my life. If you’re in search of another good omegaverse adaptation which features betas, I’d highly suggest Romantic Joutou and -wait for it- Kashikomarimashita Destiny. Both are award-winning, so satisfaction guaranteed!

Day 185
Today's manga/manhwa: Kurui Naku No Wa Boku No Ban
(Kuru-i ce?)
I had a hard time choosing one that does not make me a degenerate and I actually enjoy and this is one that's on a greyish line. Like, yeah, we have the classic assault and harassment of all kinds but there is a good message there like something that the mc says at some point "treasure yourself more" and we all do sacrifices but is it really worth it?. But yeah, it's buried under all those steamy scenes. And btw, it's an omegaverse (you're welcome). I don't recommend it tho it's maybe too much for some people.

SUMI (omega) x UTOU-SAN (beta) !!! 😭💖
🚨 possible major finale spoilers cuz I’m an emotional wreck don’t say I didn’t warn ya so if don’t wanna read it keep scrolling down🚨
Omg I cannot believe the series is done!? It’s been like , what 3yrs since I read this !? I’m too lazy to look up when it was made sorry mangaka .
And this pairing story had lots of twists and turns !! Lots of tears !! Really good angst scenes which had a happy ending I never imagined but did love !! By far , I do love the fact Utou-san told Sumi he loves him and said to be his family !! Aah !! Utou-san family is big so i hope the extra shows Sumi’s interactions with them.
Karasuma (omega) x Takaba (alpha) show up in the end too with the couple (they’re at the beach) but wait...omg whose 2 kids are those !? Plz , let one of them belong to Sumi and Utou-san!!! I know in omegaverse beta impregnating omegas are rare so plz create a miracle for them !!! Esp for Utou!! Edit 15min later: ima fucking idiot and idk if I’m remembering this right so anyone correct me if I’m wrong . I forgot that Karasuma might not be able get pregnant !! I forgot why though (if anyone remembers let me know)!! I just remember Karasuma and Takaba met with Takaba’s dad (hes an omega so technically gave birth) and Karasuma cried in the park trying to say that he might not be able to bear kids 😢 but Takaba said he didn’t mind and he was more than enough (to love and live together)!! ❤️ that’s true love too!! So I’m hoping now that one of them is their kid !! Two miracle kids , one for each of the couple!!! Edit 5min after editing it: AAAHHH!!! 😖 I think them kids to belong to Sumi and Utou instead of one kid each pairing 😢😢😢 BUT IF THE EXTRA CAN CONFIRM THAT BE GREAT 👌OTHERWISE RN IMA BE IN MY STATE OF DENIAL AND HOPE FOR A MIRACLE .
If ya wanna know why...read the series (if you’re the fan like me, read the finale now) !!!

Hi! Omg your website is just what I need. Thank you for this!! I am wondering if you can recommend some manga on omegaverse where the omegas are actually cherished and precious. The only one I found so far (which started my interest in omegaverse) is Dependency X. But it's not complete yet and the pace is quite slow. I love "Love is an Illusion" by Fargo but I don't think it talks much about omega. Thank you in advance!
I love omegaverse. I have actually not read Dependency X yet because I want to wait for it to finish uploading so I can binge read the entire thing lol. Here are some omegaverse recommendations where the omega is cherished and precious. Hope these help!
TADAIMA, OKAERI (10/10): This is all caps for a reason. This is the definition of precious and cherished. Misaki is an omega and his husband Hiromu is an office worker. The story revolves around their everyday lives as a married couple and the parents of an adorable two year old. There is also a side couple in this manga universe and that omega is loved too. If you read anything on this list it should be this. It’s such a fluffy manga it will give you cavities from the cuteness.
Abarenbo Honey (10/10): I loved this manga! The omega, Kuma, is a delinquent who always find himself in fights. The person he’s usually fighting: Hachi. The two boys are fighting one day when Kuma suddenly goes into heat. At first their instincts take over and when their minds clear Kuma is wearing Hachi’s bite mark. Kuma starts wondering if Hachi actually likes him and Hachi goes above and beyond to show Kuma he’s serious he is about them being together.
Kurui Naku no wa Boku no Ban (10/10): Miyabi believes that the only way for omegas to get ahead in the world is to sleep their way to the top and so he does. One day Takaba enters Miyabi’s office and finds himself falling for Miyabi. However, Takaba isn’t simply lusting after him. He wants to show to Miyabi that he is more then someone to sleep with. This one might be a hit or miss depending on if you’re willing to wait through the slow burn to get to the happiness.
Romantic Joutou (9/10): Kei is an omega who only dreams of being the perfect bride, but he is thwarted by his own body. It makes him go into random and super strong heats. Thankfully his best friend, who’s a beta named Tsugitsugu, helps him through it. Tsugitsugu loves the daylights out of Kei and would give him the world if he asked, but Kei’s so wrapped up in his “perfect bride for a perfect alpha” he doesn’t realize how much he needs the beta too. After some failed attempts to find happiness Kei finds he keeps looking for Tsugitsugu.
Kashikomarimashita, Destiny (9/10): Omega Aoi is a young master that has an unrequited love with an Alpha named Jirou. After the death of his father, Aoi goes to work for Jirou’s family. Jirou and Aoi don’t fit the usual omega/alpha roles. Aoi is smart and brave and lives as a strong omega. Jirou starts to realize that the resentment that he has had for Aoi was silly and now he starts to see how wonderful Aoi really is. I know that sounds angsty, but it’s actually pretty relaxed. There is also a side story with Aoi’s butler who is a beta. He fears that being a beta has robed him of his happily ever after since omegas and alphas look for each other, but betas are forced to be alone. Kudou is an alpha and Jirou’s friend/servant and he starts to fall for Aoi’s butler.
Sayonara Alpha (10/10): I love this manga, but I know some people flip because the alpha, Haruka, is underage for most of the plot, but I promise nothing wild happens while he’s underage. It tells the story of a high school omega, Chika, who stumbled into his fated mate..the only problem his alpha is only a kid. Chika is very respectful of the age gap and it tells an adorable story about how Chika learns about the personality of his alpha as they wait for time to pass so they can be together. It’s about love and sacrifice.

It’s the 1st October a couple of days ago, aka Glasses or Megane day in Japan.
This is because 10.01 = 一〇.〇一 which kinda looks like glasses ┐( ̄∀ ̄)┌
Anyway, a few mangakas posted some artworks on twitter to commemorate that day. This one is from Kusabi-sensei and the original post can be found here: https://twitter.com/keri_ksb/status/1046806640480026624

Note
why do you hate karasuma from kurui? i'm curious as majority of the readers actually like him
I just hated his personality with a passion. ʅ(°_°)ʃ And I couldn’t bring myself to finish the first Kurui or read the chapters/scenes that were about him in Beta unless Sumi or Utou were involved.
