Koshotengai no Hashihime ~Noma~ (Adelta) Review

I just finished playing Koshotengai no Hashihime ~Noma~, Hashihime's portable version which is available on the PS Vita and Nintendo Switch! This game does contain some extras the PC version did not have, like some post-game content. This includes the short stories which are also available in Japanese on the official website. I did read these before, but they added voice acting and many new CGs, so I had a lot of fun playing these!
I was surprised when I saw that the game was also available in English and Chinese because all the other Nintendo Switch ports I've played so far were only available in Japanese. I decided to play the English version this time and the translations almost seems exactly the same as MangaGamer’s version of the game? I noticed a few differences when I compared both versions, but in general I think the translaton was quite good! 
Because most routes didn't have that many 18+ scenes in the first place they really didn’t cut a lot of content if I compare it to the original game, though I still recommend playing both versions if you want to get the full experience. I also like how VN Switch ports in general allows you to skip forward and backwards really easily, so you can always go back and re-read lines.
The five routes (contains some spoilers!) It has been a long time since I played this game for the first time but I had a lot of fun re-playing it and understanding references I missed the first time. Minakami’s route is a good introduction to Hashihime’s story and worldbuilding, I remember I couldn’t stop playing the first time because I was so curious how Tamamori was ever going to prevent his death. The extra story was interesting too, especially the one in which you see everything from Minakami’s perspective.
Kawase’s route remains my favorite route because I just love his attitude and slowly discovering more about the character. Kawase and Tamamori’s arguments are also always funny and I like how they secretly both care a lot about each other. The extra story was super funny, Kawase I can’t believe you let some creep record your ‘’intimate moments’’ with Tamamori only to take the recording with you and watch it at home... (of course Tamamori did not appreciate that). Is this the real reason why he asked for help setting up a home-cinema...?

Hanazawa’s route has always been quite controversial, but I do think his route is interesting in its own way. In the final route it's mentioned that Kawase, Minakami and Hanazawa are all based off the works of real authors (Kyouka Izumi, Ruikou and Oshikawa). Oshikawa, whose work inspired Hanazawa's route, was a writer who would write many stories about the Russian - Japanese war, but he was also the pioneer of Japanese science fiction writing and seemed to love kaiju stories. I think his style can definitely be recognized in Hanazawa's route (the military parts, but also his ending when they end up in the past and fight monsters), so I think those are some really interesting details. 
I think Hikawa’s (Or Hakase’s) route is very unique because it’s the first route in which another character can immediately time travel together with Tamamori. The extra story shows how their relationship is still very awkward even after the good ending, but I think that’s expected from Hakase who likes Tamamori a little bit too much lol! I miss Hitotsurugi and Sazan... They were such nice characters so it’s kind of a bittersweet ending.

The last route (or Kaoru’s route) is pretty short, which is a bit of a shame because I do think it’s an interesting timeline in which all of the other main characters died a long time ago. Kurosawa Rinko confirmed that it's not like the other routes didn't really happen, they just take place in different timelines (although Kaoru route seems to be the original timeline). It definitely adds some variety to the routes and endings and I enjoy seeing older Tamamori...!

Overall I definitely think this game becomes even more fun if you're familiar with some of the novels and authors the writer references in the story. It's not a necessity of course, but to me personally it was even more fun than the first time I played this game years ago! I also like how the Switch port now has a full glossary, the PC versions did explain terms, but the glossary is even more useful. 
I love Taisho era Japan VNs so I definitely think it’s great this game is available in multiple languages, even the Switch port. I own a few other portable versions of BL games like Taisho Mebiusline and Omega Vampire, but these versions are a little bit hard to recommend to people because of the language barrier. When you play on PC it’s at least possible to use some kind of translation software, but I don’t think there’s a way of doing this on a console.

I didn’t think it was real. but it exists. I can’t believe I finished a route and I’m smiling… instead of curling up like a wounded animal in the woods. BL is real… boy’s love is real!!!

Esta la Short Story que venía en la edición 108 de la revista Cool-B, y la segunda SS de Yomi/Juro desde que empezó este proyecto de "reclutamiento" de Kaijus pensados por los fans
así que si les gusta el Yomi/Jurou, seguramente les va a gustar
*aclaro que esta no es una traducción sino un resumen de lo que trata la historia*
al final me salió un poquito largo para ser un "resumen" pero quise hacerlo porque Yomi/Juro es mi segunda pareja fav de UrC

la historia empieza con Juro diciéndole a Yomi que se despierte
la voz de Juro suena como si hubiera encontrado "algo divertido" pero Yomi no sale del futón y le pide que le traiga una taza
Juro le pregunta que si se siente mal y Yomi dice que le cuesta respirar
Juro le dice que no se levante y que le va a preparar un "Sayu" (una bebida hecha al hervir agua y luego dejándola enfriar a unos 50°C)
Yomi le dice que no hace falta y que un taza vacía basta
Juro, sin entender la situación, le trae la taza y Yomi comienza a "drenar agua" desde la punta de su dedo
Juro le pregunta que qué esta haciendo, y entonces Yomi explica que se está "deshaciendo del exceso de agua en su cuerpo", que la sensación de opresión en su pecho es causada por baja presión y que cuando los vasos sanguíneos se dilatan las vías respiratorias se inflaman, lo que le dificulta la respiración, por lo que remover fluidos reduce la inflamación, y dice que el único lugar en donde hay un cambio de clima tan significativo es en la tierra
Juro le pregunta que si está mejor, y el texto dice que Yomi tiene un dolor de cabeza que no se puede quitar, un dolor que, sumado al ritmo de las manecillas del reloj, le hace sentir como si lo pincharan
* Nota *
(digo "texto" porque la SS se cuenta desde el punto de vista de Yomi, y en algunas partes él no habla sino que piensa para sus adentros)
y dice que si cierra los ojos, un "hilo amarillo" flota detrás de sus parpados
estos hilos se enroscan unos con otros formando un misterioso patrón (que parece ser un número)
"99999"
Juro le dice que si con eso (drenar el fluido) no se cura, entonces la causa podría ser un resfriado y se va a buscar medicinas, a lo que Yomi responde que, por ser un extraterrestre, no sabe si la medicina humana funcionará
Juro responde que "para enfermedades de la tierra, usas medicinas de la tierra" y le pregunta que si mayormente él se ha curado haciendo eso (drenando los fluidos)
Yomi dice que sí, y que es la primera vez que no ha funcionado
Juro le dice que si la causa no es la baja presión entonces es mejor devolver los fluidos (a su cuerpo) y le da unas hierbas medicinales chinas
Yomi se las toma junto con los fluidos y se acuesta
entonces, Juro dice su nombre y Yomi de repente tiene un dolor en el pecho, como si lo pincharan con una aguja, y el número (99999) se le viene a la mente otra vez
Yomi le dice a Juro que, por alguna razón, se le viene a la mente cuando escucha su voz, y le pregunta que si tiene alguna idea, a lo que Juro responde que no recuerda, que no le suena de nada
Yomi no entiende si se trata de "cinco nueves en fila", o si es "99 999"
le dice a Juro que está mejorando, y le pregunta que qué era lo que le quería decir (al principio cuando le dijo que despertara)
Juro le dice que ya no importa, se disculpa por haberlo despertado y le dice se va a ir a echar otro sueñito 🥱, mientras mira su carita durmiendo 😴
Yomi vuelve a tener el dolor de cabeza y vuelve a ver el número
se levanta al mismo tiempo que Juro se acuesta y se quedan mirando con los ojos redondos ⊙ˍ⊙
Juro le dice que se ve extraño, y Yomi le pide que vuelva a decir su nombre
Juro lo hace, y Yomi otra vez ve el misterioso número y tiene el dolor de cabeza
se da cuenta de que esa es la señal/presencia de un Kaiju, que el dolor está "vinculado al nombre" y el número probablemente es la "cifra del daño" (la cantidad de daño recibido)

Juro le pregunta si otra vez está escondiendo algo y le pide que le hable con honestidad, después de llamar su nombre repetidas veces, a lo que Yomi, con todo el dolor del mundo, le dice que no (no está escondiendo nada)
Juro le dice que el día anterior fue a la oficina de correos a comprar estampas, y que le pidieron insistentemente su nombre y su foto, pero que él se rehusó (al parecer era el visitante No. 10,000)
Yomi se sorprende y le dice que irá un momentito a la oficia de correos, pero Juro le dice que descanse en santa paz, lo levanta y lo pone de vuelta en el futón
le pide que lo deje hacer de enfermero encargarse de él, que si no confía en él, mide la temperatura de su frente y le frota los dedos de los pies
el texto dice que Yomi no puede decirle al "noble" Juro (que está intentando darle calorcito) que ÉL es la causa, que todo se solucionaría simplemente con decirle que se abstenga de decir su nombre, pero que no puede decirle algo tan frío a Juro, tampoco quiere que se sepa que en "ese mundo" todavía quedan Kaijus
(recuerden que había "dos tierras", una en la que habían Kaijus y la otra donde "no habían", pero si que quedaban...)
Yomi decide entonces decirle a Juro que todo era una "mentirita", que sólo fingió estar enfermo para que Juro cuidara de él
Juro vuelve a decir su nombre, se va corriendo al pasillo y luego regresa con un tazón humeante 🍵
hizo "papilla de huevo", diciendo que de vez en cuando él debería cocinar, pero que "fracasó" en cocinar el arroz y entonces decidió por lo menos hacer "Tamagoyaki"
¿cúal fue la sorpresa?
pues que resultó que el huevo tenía "doble yema"
"dos yemas en un solo huevo", eso era lo que quería decirle cuando lo despertó al principio, y explica que es una particularidad de las gallinas jóvenes que no están acostumbradas a poner huevos, y que lo mismo pasa con él (no poder cocinar bien), pero que lo hizo para él, que está enfermo
le dice que se lo trague, que se duerma y que se mejore
Yomi le da las gracias, sabiendo que si decía su nombre Juro de regreso llamaría el suyo, pero que aún así, quería escuchar su voz, y entonces explica que el número "99999" es donde "se detiene la cuenta"
que si es un "ataque" basado en los "sentimientos excesivos" de Juro, entonces se puede dejar como está
un "amor" que es capaz hasta de "ponerlo enfermo"
una "presión" que recae sólo sobre él
en resumen, no es un "dolor" que haya comenzado ese día

no sé si soy la única que piensa esto  ̄_ ̄||| pero incluso en el mismo juego, la "obsesión" de Juro por Yomi era hasta "creepy...?"
me parece que Juro tenía demasiada "dependencia" de Yomi, y esto a su vez también molestaba a Yomi

la razón por la que le puso el ojo a Juro, fue porque quería darle un "empujoncito" a su espalda, que se veía "modesta"
pero que al parecer nunca se imaginó que Juro tenía una pareja (Yomi) en su casa, y que estaba siendo "presionado" por una "gravedad" como la de un agujero negro...

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Tamamori. The humor is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of yaoi most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Tamamori's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation - his personal philosophy draws heavily from Kuroiwa Ruikou's literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realize that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Tamamori truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Tamamori's existencial catchphrase "Nyahaha" which itself is a cryptic reference to Yumeno Kyusaku's Japanese epic Dogra Magra I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Kurosawa Rinko's genius unfolds itself on their computer screens. What fools... how I pity them. 😂 And yes by the way, I DO have a Tamamori tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.

Dramatic Create will release Adelta-developed “mysterious and psychedelic boys love” visual novel Hashihime of the Old Book Town Append for Switch on December 16, the company announced. It will be available both physically and digitally in Japan, and presumably digitally worldwide. It will support, English, Japanese, and Chinese (Traditional and Simplified) language options.
In addition to the multiple language options, the Switch version will also include brand new content from original writer Rinko Kurosawa, a new key visual, a glossary and voice save function, and a short after-story where the love interest characters are playable.
Hashihime of the Old Book Town first launched for PC in August 2016 in Japan, followed by PS Vita in September 2018. An English version was released for PC via Steam in September 2019.

Jinbochou, Tokyo June 1922, Taisho Era The Rainy Season
Tamamori came to Tokyo with his sights set on getting accepted to the Imperial University.
However, he doesn’t pass the entrance exam, and is so undisciplined and wrapped up in endless fantasies that he’s kicked out of his boarding house after only two years.
Through a stroke of luck, Tamamori begins to live and work at Umebachidou, a used book store.
There, he enjoys whiling away his time as a “student preparing for entrance exams” and taking advantage of friends who are also from his hometown.
But one right after the other, mysterious deaths befall those friends and, realizing he’s been repeating the same rainy three days over and over again, Tamamori finds himself racing throughout Jinbochou to scoop them.
In this pop-occult mystery that surrounds the deaths of his friends…

BL game: Uuultra C review

Uuultra C is a BL game by Adelta* (who are also known for their game Hashihime of the Old Book Town) that was released this year in September.
„The year is Showa 45 March (aka the 1970s)
Shoutarou is living together with his lover Kozuka Akira in Soshigaya** in Tokyo. The world is facing a problem with an infection that turns humans into monster. On one hand people are pressing for acceptance, on the other hand a threatening atmosphere is spreading. Shoutarou is one of them who yearns for justice. However, after being poured over with monster blood, his everyday life is starting to change”

The plot is basically hero x monster. Usually visual novels have one main protagonist and a main story you follow with different choices you make on the way, but this game is different. There are 3 different protagonists and no choices in the game. You must play the first route first and when you complete it you unlock the second and the third route. The first route is basically the main story of the game and the 2nd and 3rd story are the same story, but with a different main character, told from a different perspective, so you will see different parts of the story with each route.
If you played hashihime already you will know the authors writing is complex and sometimes you have no idea what the heck is going on, which is the case here, only worse. After playing the first route I was really confused, the story is a big mess, and the pacing is sometimes really fast. The problem was there is not really a “goal”, so you have no idea what is supposed to happen. And I’m not saying this is bad or anything but I and the friend I played the game with were really, really confused after the first playthrough. BUT after playing the second route, things started to make sense, the pacing was slower, and more parts of the story were explained. The third route explained the story even more and after that you had a better understanding of what was actually happening. I think this is a game which story you must play more than once for a full understanding. Still I really enjoyed the story and the whole hero x monster thing the monsters were my favourite.
I will not go into detail about the characters, because this will review would get way to long - but the concept of 3 main characters was refreshing (btw there is only one guy for every main character, you can’t choose who they will date). The first couple is the fuwafuwa cute couple type, the second was the “we promised we would get married as children, but my first love is actually a guy” onee san***x tsundere type (my fav btw) and the third I can’t really tell, because it’s a spoiler for the plot but it’s kinda smaller top x bigger bottom (which turned out to be disappointing in my opinion. The main had a thing with a woman and they had more screen time than the actually pairing? Why?).
Now to a more positive part of the game: The art, which was beautiful. There is more art than in any other game I played - there are almost 2000 CGs for the game (and I’m not talking about the one where they just change the face expression or something, I mean totally different pictures). There is no gallery in the game so fingers crossed for an artbook.
The music was also really catchy, I enjoyed the BGM and the opening + every ending. If you would like to listen to some tracks, you can listen to them on their website.
*Did you know that the story and art was done by only one person - Kurosawa Rinko? I don’t know if she produced everything herself like she did with Hashihime but still pretty amazing.
Overall, I really enjoyed the game and I recommend it for every BL and/or hero fan Or you are like me and are not really into heroes but monster are your thing

**Soshigaya is a place in Setagaya, a special ward in Tokyo. After searching for the place on Wikipedia I found out that Uuultra C is probably inspired by the Japanese television series “Ultraman” which aired in the 1960s. The main character is also fighting monsters, and has similarities in appearance with the heroes in Uuultra C :D
