Lenses list
A rundown of the Kaleidoscope (as of July 5th 2022)
Mauve Lens [Purple]
Aliases: The Mauve
Incarnations: An ornate purple shawl, scarf, or cloak.
Patron: Influence, gain, indulgence, prestige.
Nature: It is passive, blank, and supportive. It varies depending on whoever uses it and will forward their will. It is the most like a tool out of all the lenses; although most can be used in a similar way, the mauve does not posses or influence who it comes in contact with beyond the natural lure that comes with all forms of power.
Powers/Abilities: Granting influence. Subtly granting benefits to its chosen in ways that could appear as luck. It also can work more directly if commanded and constantly will work toward the desire. Even just as a cloak making them feel cool in a dessert or acting like armor when in danger.
Notable Users: Maeve Lolanthe Ambrosia (AKA Mary) used it to control and influence a large amount of people,
Found: First appears in Aristrone, an urban-fantasy set dimension.
----
Indigo Lens [Indigo]
Aliases: The Indigo, Forlorn
Incarnations: Deep translucent fabrics of phasing waves, evocative melodies of vocals or strings.
Patron: Memory, repression, grief, sorrow.
Nature: A neutral but powerful lens, passively and growing and drawing in. It washes over dimensions and slowly begins to drown them as it takes in the sorrow. The deeper into it you go the more lost you are.
Powers/Abilities: It drags in miseries and stories from all across the Over, other dimensions and worlds, and drags them in on its tide.
Notable Users: It can’t really be used but Karl listens to its stories and helps it not overflow.
Found: No set dimension of residence.
----
Azure Lens [Blue]
Aliases: The Azure, Eve, Creation, Epiphany
Incarnations: Inspiration, an unknown muse, especially to technical minds. Blue energy/technology.
Patron: Creation, creativity, ambition, advancement.
Nature: Aggressive but supportive. It’s a creative rather than outright destructive force but is single-minded and perseverance, as it’s a force. Much in the same way heat’s main goal is to be hot—it’s not going to stop and worry that it’s melting the wax that sustains it.
Powers/abilities: Pushes breakthroughs in the minds of innovators. Essentially speed runs the development of societies and can be channeled into a usable energy if worked with long enough.
Notable Users: Alex, Ywscore citizens, Orch inventor
Found: Resides predominantly in Ywuscore but eventually moves to Orch.
----
Teal Lens [Teal/Turquoise]
Aliases: The Teal, The Beguiling Mist, Siren’s Mask
Incarnations: A gas mask but with more colors and patterns as well as feathers attached to it, heavy blue-green mist, a cool feeling.
Patron: Emotion, sentiment, fortitude, reaction.
Nature: It’s a very active but undirected lens. It’s neutral although it’s rarely dormant. Unless left completely isolated with no one to reach, it will constantly be churning to the tune of the other’s emotions, including even animals.
Powers/Abilities: When used properly the lens allows mass manipulation of emotions through the creation of colorful mist. The mist is an extension of the user's own emotions- if the user feels angry, anyone who breathes in that mist will feel that same anger- and that emotion can stack on top of any amount of existing emotion already felt by those affected by the mist. This makes sealing the mask properly around a user's head important as they could get stuck in a feedback loop of emotion.
Notable Users: unnamed ancient leaders, a unnamed child.
Found: Currently unnamed dimension of residence - a world with villages on the surface and long tunnels of caves and underground water pools.
----
Celadon Lens [Green]
Aliases: The Celadon, Creeping Stone
Incarnations: A green spreading crystalline infection
Patron: Torpor, decadence, indolence, apathy.
Nature: Acts like a virus opposed to Crimson’s infection. It is a slow but strong moving lens.
Powers/Abilities: Takes over the body, infesting muscles and joints with its stone until people are crystalized to almost statues. It doesn’t have direct control over the mind but the brain will numb on its own with the body over time.
Notable Users: it can't be used traditionally but the theme park workers might count. Those who spread it would be the closest to a ‘user.’
Found: An unnamed dimension once filled with theme parks and bustling transports, now left a shell. Neglected metal oxidized into a green wasteland full of crystallized zombies.
----
Sun Lens [Yellow]
Aliases: The Violin, Euphoria, Symphony, The Fiddle
Incarnations: A violin with intricate carvings of spider webs all over, yellow strings and thread, gold and yellow flecks of light.
Patron: Music, joy, obsession, control.
Nature: Active and benevolent. It harnesses itself in pleasantness and hones in on whatever brings it about. It does not exist or notice in necessarily healthy or safety, however, so its influence is just as detrimental when left unchecked and free as the rest of the Kaleidoscope. Despite what you might think at first glance. The forced positivity becomes almost cult-like and even hostile towards well being of people. If you’re perfectly happy even with a broken leg, why would anyone bother getting medical attention?
Powers/Abilities: It can channel good feeling and guide. It’s a bit like Azure in how it interacts/influences the societies it reigns in, and a bit like Crimson in the way it spreads through and consumes people.
Notable Users: A musician named Penelope
Found: Currently unnamed dimension where it has overtaken the whole society in a euphoric brainwashed state of service and submission to its light.
----
Clementine Lens [Orange]
Aliases: The Clementine, Not.☆, Clem, The Unhuntable Beast, Pretty Kitty
Incarnations: a large creature that looks like a cross between a tiger, a boar, and a scorpion. It has tusks, orange fur with black stripes, and a scorpion tail, size between a car and a horse. Appears to fade in and out of opaqueness, almost like the texture of a portal.
Patron: Oblivion, unknown, hidden, introversion.
Nature: It’s a reclusive lens, will actively try to avoid things and need to be sought out. It’s like a wild animal trapped in a place it shouldn’t be. It’s the lens most closely tied to the Otherside. As a representation of Oblivion, which is nearly synonymous with inexistent, it’s the most uncomfortable to be out here and mostly needs to be comforted and drawn out in order to return it back to safety.
It's abilities include: traveling to different dimensions, poisonous scorpion tail, and unnatural abilities (ie. Speed, strength, agility, senses). Fazing and an inconsistent size. Ability to take people and things into never existing (only until it’s returned to the Otherside, in which case it simply becomes guardian of all things lost forever.)
Notable Users: None
Found: No set dimension of residence.
----
Crimson Lens [Red]
Aliases: The Crimson, Blood vines
Incarnations: Red flora, especially vines grown from an egg-like seed.
Patron: Power, passion, conquering, striving.
Nature: It is an aggressive lens, actively fiercely moving forward.
Abilities Include: It works by seeking out It works by warping your mind as a sort of infective possession, adding you to its empire. It can rebuild itself from the smallest seed, leaf, or root, growing it into a new egg.
Notable Users: More like it uses people than people use it. Notable people who’ve fallen to its control: Cue, Bill, and Rue.
Found: Appears in small bit all throughout the story. Is main insurgence comes later in the series, in Prowa.
----
Bonus:
Karl Opal [White]
Aliases: Karl, Prism, Thread, Journalist
Incarnation: Unlike other lenses he’s represented with multiple colors on top of his main one, generally opalescent. Created by the Inbetween to retrieve and return the Lenses to the Other Side, was incidentally made to be a person just from the way the pieces fell together. Think of it like evolution.
Patron: Trial and error, stories, rebirth, discovery, understanding.
Powers/Abilities:
Form shifting
Respawning
A very advanced memory when considering all he takes in compared to other beings.
Quick learning/adapting
Creation of portals through the Over (different from simply traveling through them: he can also bend the rules of moving things and other people between dimension, not just himself.)
Ability to herd and push the lenses as they manifest in the Over. Think of it like he’s a shepherd and Lark is a caretaker.
Access to the Inbetween.
Found: The Inbetween, with one or both his boyfriends (Sapnap & Quackity), or with one of his many friends. Pretty much everywhere or anywhere, but usually the first two.
Lark [Black]-
Aliases: Lark, Prism, Needle, Librarian
Incarnation: accidentally created when Karl was split into multiple versions of himself, is considered to be Karl's reflection/Inverse, depending on how you look at it, he either existed long before Karl as a form of the otherside but not as a person, or he is significantly newer if you count him being created as a sentient being as his true origin. They split the difference and call themselves twins. His purpose is to house, care for, and regulate the Kaleidoscope in the Otherside.
Patron: Order, endings, knowledge, balance, animals.
Powers/Abilities:
Power to freely through anywhere in the Over by going “behind” them rather than “through” them. (Imagine Karl’s portals are like a wormhole, Lark’s tunnels would be like a black hole.)
Metaphysically and telepathically linked to Karl
Essentially impossible to damage in any meaningful way
Para-omnipotence
Ability to watch over and maintain the Kaleidoscope (when they are in the otherside, where they belong.) Caretaker.
Access to the otherside
Kind of… IS the otherside. At least, a manifestation of the part of it that linked it to Karl.
Found: The Otherside or with Karl (as reflection or as person). Sometimes—very rarely—he can be found broken away from Karl to explore a dimension that especially caught his attention, usually one with animals.

The Story Of A Meeting
--------------
@inkytrinket-irii a thing I wrote, most of it is under the cut. Hope you enjoy it!
----------------
He was falling through the psychedelic swirls of his smoke. Time was passing in a moment and a minute all at once. He was everywhere and nowhere, scattered and compressed. He was falling through a paradox. He was the paradox.
And that's when he hit the ground.
The impact didn't hurt too much, probably due to whatever poor plants he landed on. He did however hit his head a little painfully. It wasn't a concussion, he got hit in the head enough to know the difference immediately, but it did make his vision spin and ears ring.
Taking a moment, Karl was able to look around. It was night time but a scattering of lanterns and a half moon in the sky showed the outline of his surroundings. It seemed cozy and warm, a thick forest to one side and a few stone houses dotted on the other. Lanterns and torches could be seen flickering in the distance. It was a very peaceful and serene picture.
It would make a lovely postcard.
The sound of a heavy door being thrown open had Karl snapping his head towards it. A figure, back lit by a lantern, stood in the doorway. Tall, broad, and the metal armor they wore glistened in the light. The sword they held also glistened in the light.
"Who are you?" They called in a commanding yet slightly confused tone.
Honk, must have seen the portal through the window, Karl thought to himself as he bolted towards the forest, I just got here! I can't get arrested for witchcraft. Yet.
He could faintly hear the person start chasing him as he leaped and stumbled through the trees. The blood roared through his ears. His clothes caught on the branches. It felt like fire was nipping at his heels. He kept running. Not out of fear but out of curiosity. He landed in this dimension and he wanted to know what stories it held.
It finally registered that the person was yelling something at him in what sounded like concern rather than anger or alarm. Karl slowed his pace the slightest bit.
Then ran straight off a small cliff.
His vision doubled and tripled as he blinked open his eyes. He didn't remember closing them. He definitely had a concussion. Something large was moving next to him and he could feel multiple legs start to poke at him. He could make out the fuzzy outline of what looked like a spider.
Hopefully it's poisonous, he thought to himself as he bared his neck to the creature, it'll get rid of this concussion faster.
----------(Sapnap's POV below)----------
"What in the name of XD are you wearing," Sapnap asked the strange man laying in front of him. The man did not answer. His chest was moving so he was breathing, thank XD, just out cold.
Sapnap had thought they might have died when they ran off the cliff. Finding them on the ground with a spider on top of them didn't bring much hope either. But by some miracle from XD, they had nothing worse then a bump on the head.
They were back in the guard house, the stranger layed out on the spare bed while Sapnap hurried around grabbing supplies. A potion of healing, a bottle of water, and a muffin. He figured they must be from the End Empire, considering the colorful goggles he had on, but it was the only real lead he had. The stranger was just too strange to pin down: the colors, the outfit, and no tails, feathers, or fur either.
Sapnap left the goggles on them but removed the coat, reasoning that it was unfortunately very common to overheat near Neather Waste Demons, like himself. He knew he had better control than most but medical training and protocols were created for good reason.
As he was folding the coat, a book fell out of it. It was leather bound and looked professional made. There was a green and purple square swirl painted on the cover and the title "The Adventurs Of The Cunning Pirate: Captain Puffy" was painted below. The back of the book declared that it had been written by "Karl Jacob".
"Karl Jacob," he tested the name aloud. He'd never heard the name before. It was just a bit too strange to be familiar but close enough that he couldn't just dismiss it entirely. "The name suits you," he said approvingly.
"Thanks, i picked it myself."
Sapnap nearly set alight out of fright. He hadn't expected him to wake up for at least a few more hours, much less speak clearly. He looked over to see him already sitting up with his feet hanging off the bed.
He rushed over and gently pushed them back down. "You shouldn't be moving around so much. You've been injured and need rest."
Karl seemed to consider this for a moment. "Fine. One condition," he broke into a wild grin, "you have to tell me a story."
A story? A strange request from a strange person. Sapnap was mostly relieved that he wasn't going to have to chase after him again. Running in armor was not ideal and even harder at night when you couldn't see anything.
"Alright. Drink some healing potion while I tell the story, it'll help the headache", he agreed. He grabbed Karl's book off the floor and started to flip through the pages.
"No, no, no, no!" Karl waved his arms wildly, "not my story. A story from here. From you. About anything you can think of! I already know that story, tell me one of yours."
Sapnap was taken aback by the sudden speech. He wasn't expecting the passion dripping off of every word. His story. It was one that everyone knew. Adopted by the king, grew up royalty, learned and fought hard to become the head knight of the Nether. Did-
Did he not know who he was?
It was a worrying and comforting thought. Karl’s fall might have done more damage than he first thought, or, and Sapnap really hoped this was the answer, Karl truly did not know the he was the prince or the head knight. Don't get him wrong, he wouldn't trade either position for the world, but people felt they had to act certain ways around him and that got tiring after a while. Predictable. This person didn't have a single reason to treat him any differently than any other guard and the thought was nice.
It wasn't lying if the subject never got brought up in the first place, right?
Sapnap was snapped out of his thoughts by a pillow hitting his face. He must have lost track of time. Karl was curled up in the blankets and pillows in a kind of make shift tent. The potion and the water bottles were both empty and there was no trace of any crumbs.
"Apologies," Sapnap saluted, "I'm not much of a story teller. I am a knight. I don't have many stories of my own." Not entirely a lie. There were no major battles or wars or giant monsters to describe. No exciting stories that he could think of.
"A story doesn't have to be grand." Karl said, as if he could read his mind, "It can be of anything. A bad start to the day, a small mistake, or a strange meeting! Like just now. You have a fantastic story to tell about me."
He considered the advice for a moment. It was as if a hundred possible stories popped into his head in an instant. That one petty thief that kept escaping jail. The lady he helped organize her fruit stand "by sound". Every accidental arson he's ever committed.
He settled on recounting the story of when he accidentally fell into a pit full of slimes. None of them were big enough to hurt him and instead lightly bounced off him. The bouncing was fine when there was only one or two but when over two dozen were trapped in a pit together? It took an embarrassingly long time to climb out.
He wasn't confident in his story skills and even to his own ears it sounded a bit dull but Karl seemed enraptured by it. It was like he was hanging off every word. He even clapped at the end.
"You did great! Wonderful descriptions, the slimes sound so cute and slimey at the same time." Karl praised.
"It was a first attempt," Sapnap blushed. It was strange to get compliments on anything other than his fighting skills, then again, it was all he ever really did.
"Would you mind if i write it down?"
Now that took him off guard.
"Write what down?"
"Your story. The one with the slimes. I like to collect stories. Just like that one," he pointed to the book Sapnap still held, "I suppose you could call it a hobby."
"I-" it was not something he expected to get asked. Truly, there must be better stories to be put to paper than his slime story. At the same time, something about it made his chest soar and blood pump. "You may. I'll go- um- find some paper."
He rushed out of the room and took a few deep breaths. At this rate he was going to burst into flames over a few simple compliments. He'd been complimented plenty of times before, people flirting with him got less of a reaction than this, why was it so different now?
Maybe it was because Karl seemed to like his mediocre story. Maybe it was because Karl complimented him on something that wasn't fighting. Maybe it was because he genuinely seemed to not know who he was and enjoyed his company with no strings attached. Whatever it was, he need to calm down and grab some paper and ink for Karl.
A quick search granted him what he needed and he marched back to the guest bedroom. Karl had disappeared from the blanket tent and his coat gone from where he had left it. His book was layed neatly on the top with a note.
"Dear, Anight," it read, "Since you gave me one of your stories, I'm giving you one of mine! I have to hurry back to my home house place of living so I can write down your story before I have to meet a friend of mine for tea. You can keep the book, I have an extra. I will stop by again in about a week to hear what you think of it. Hey, maybe if you're willing to spill another story, I'd be willing to share some more of my stories? See ya soon, -KJ"
A flurry of emotions surged through his chest. Worry over Karl’s still healing injuries and possible homelessness. Relief that Karl has friends he meets with regularly. Slight betrayal that he left without saying goodbye. Mostly confusion over who "Anight" was.
"Anight? Who is Ani- A night. A knight. But I didn't-" the realization slaps across his face.
He never gave Karl his name.
XD damn it.
---------
Wow, I had the first three paragraphs then I just did the rest in a few hours. Pretty proud of it. I've been wanting and meaning to get around to writing Sapnap and Karl's first interaction. It was actually supposed to be that Karl was the one who's name isn't learned by Sapnap, but it turned out the opposite way.
What do you think? Did you have a favorite part?

Hey, came up with some concepts for the sorta "heads of state" for all the different [non-nether] places in Quarry.
Tundra- main exports are ice and fish, leader ideas: polar bear, arctic fox, arctic hare,
Polar bear: very friendly, gives Bear hugs, older and wiser but with a youthful air to them
Arctic Fox: professional, young adult, new but mature, more elegant air to them, has a temper they're still learning to control/not rise to bait,
Arctic Hare: more rough and scrappy, impatient, not much here
Woodland- main exports are wood and honey, leader ideas: bee, cat, wolf
Bee: Queen bee, a bit bossy but knows when to back off, past mid-life crisis but not elderly, 40-50 ish, somewhere between a grandma and a CEO.
Cat: cozy but rough, a little over cautious, Motherly, maybe an actual mom?, has either 1 "mini me" child that mimics her all the time, or has like 35 kids and knows them all by heart,
Wolf: friendly for the most part, does not take insults well, but is very caring, always thinking about how different things will effect their country (AKA their pack), a bit "brooding" around New people, but very friendly once you know them
Mountains- main exports are rock and ore, leader ideas: ram/goat, mountain lion, mole
Goat: you know that one goat species that can walk on surfaces on 92 degree angles, that's them, is in their 90s with the agility of a god, lots of knitted stuff, grandmotherly but in a tough cookie kind of way,
Mountain Lion: quieter and reserved, you will forget they exist until they speak, when they do talk its with wisdom, slight mystic vibes, a bit of a recluse, either in their 20s or their 50s and no one knows which,
Mole: I know they technically don't fall under the expanded mob list, but hear me out, I imagine the mountains economy is majorly supported by their ore industry which requires mining, Moles are known for their extensive tunneling, I'm imagining a hearty old guy, used to mine in their younger years and absolutely does it when they can find time, is blind but no one actually realizes this until several years into them being leader because they have perfected walking around in mines with uneven ground and compare that to walking blind in a castle is a breeze, idea: Mole is married to Ram/Goat and they are a power couple, I'm loving this, maybe Mountain Lion is adopted child?
Jungle- main exports are wood and coco beans, leader ideas: parrot, panda bear,
Parrot: young and full of energy, is an inventor/engineer in spare time, a little all over the place, wears the Quarry version of old aviator goggles,
Panda bear: not a lot of ideas, Other than super polite and a little dorky, maybe a dad?
Mesa- main exports are clay and cactuses, leader ideas: vulture, goat, rattle snake
Vulture: think the current Queen if they lived in Colorado, beloved by the residents, a lot of people joke that they are basically a walking corpse, no one tells them that to their face, very good at their job,
Ram: rough as the terrain, headstrong with a good heart, doing their best, was probably on a ranch or farm before becoming the leader, just wants to shear some animal sheep, knows how to hold her ground but not always when to let some ground go,
Rattle Snake: very heavy focus on justice, think a hardened sheriff from the wild west became a knight and then was promoted to head of the country, takes no shit, rules are rules type person, I think the Mesa in general is a lot like the wild west but with swords and bows and arrows instead of guns, I like the idea of them being a copper head specially, those are poisonous, oh wait they are a reptile.... they don't have to be cold blooded, or maybe they have End ancestors and it showed up as scales
Plains- main exports are flowers and farm products, leader ideas: sheep, cow, bee
Sheep: young and kind, flowers woven into their hair, knows how to argue their point calmly but firmly, kinda came into the role with little training so they're still getting their feet under themselves, the first to offer aid, brings cookies to all the meetings, very good cook
Cow: hard work is the dream work, definitely works out, raised on a farm and it shows, very blunt to the point of possible rudeness, has a more relaxed vibe but knows how to buckle down and work hard,
Rabbit: relaxed vibes, if they need to they are not above karate kicking someone, they seem nice but is honestly waiting for the chance to go apeshit, I feel like they wear a hanker cheif around their neck, has like 20 siblings, they are either the middle child exactly or the eldest.
What do you think? I don't have any names yet, just concepts.
OO I love all of these! Tomorrow we should talk about how the government of each works. We’ve established The Nether Kingdoms, Mycelium Isles, and End (and have kind of settled on the tundra being a monorchy as well) but the way they all function is different and so fun!
Name ideas (first or last):
Tundra - Albedo, Boreas, Buster, Canis, Delft, Eci, Fleck, Glide, Gale, Lepus (good for hare), Looc, Bliz, Skate, Squall, Tuft, Zephyr
Woodland - Aspin, Ash, Aril, Axe, Balsa, Brook, Dia, Ekoms, Gala, Golden, Jepmit, Kauri, Nectar, Redde, Rup, Sap
Mountains - Cascade, Cliff, Crys, Cuiw, Emin, Halides, Horizon, Ingot, Ken (maybe for the lion?), Linn, Pix, Palisade, Ridge, Slate, Tiwwns, Uozijoh
Jungle - Aloe, Bean, Bromeliad, Cacao, Cain, Dart, Erythro, Flit, Howl, Kalei, Kunjt, Leuko, Melano, Mosy (I’m partial to this one), Passiflora, Sajow,
Mesa - Arid, Barrel, Bolt, Chollas, Clay, Crocker, Dustin, Eolian, Inlet, Kcits, Kiln, Par, Pane, Switch, Sirocco, Spike
Plains - Crest, Ivory, Moc, Neb, Oscine, Oxeye, Poppy, Rye, Scutch, Senooy Silk, Steppe. Spur, Sky, Kera, Zoysia

Could you do a little "lore recap" for Lark? He's pretty interesting but I wanted to know a bit more of his history, like how he came to be
Lark originally started (and I suppose technically stayed) as a fragment of Karl.
We were discussing troupes we could do in the very episodic format dimensions offers and were talking about the shattered personality troupe (where a character is broken into multiple parts of themselves, having each side become something tangible and literal, although often symbolic in some way).
We ended up combining this with the Otherside and thus was born the idea of Lark!
As we played around with the character he grew into something far more than a fraction of Karl but his origins of his consciousness remained the same as sort of a nod.
Lark came from when Karl was split. The inbetween and otherside are not black and white but more yin Yang. The bit of otherside that was in Karl grew his own consciousness when he was split and that consciousness sort of infested/taught
———
As he is now: Lark is a tool of the Otherside, similar to how Karl is a tool to the Inbetween. The main difference is that Lark is a personification while Karl is just an extension.
The Otherside’s job is to keep the lenses and hold them while the Inbetween’s job is to spin into existence and more or less keep what exists in balance.
- Ink
----------
Lark is also an animal lover! He doesn't quite have a good grasp at talking with people and tends to be unintentionally unnerving and scary. He has a tendency to adopt animals that he finds are hurt or mistreated and has a system for naming them, "Lark + #". The first animal he ever adopted was a lark (like the bird species) he named Lark 2 and is secretly his favorite.

So, we saw Sapnap and Quackity's reaction to seeing Karl die for the first time, so... what about the others like Quackity and Sapnap's friends and family (like Kid, Charlie, Schlatt, Bad, Dream and George)?
Thanks for the ask!
Let's go through this one by one.
Kid: he read through Karl's stories but he disregarded the ones where Karl died as fantasy. I feel like he's gone numb from so many strange situations that he wouldn't freak out right away. He'd see Karl die and dissappear and be in disbelief for a few seconds before breaking down crying. Everyone has a limit and Kid is still just a kid. Karl comes back quickly and comforts Kid. It's a lot of gentle explanations, tears, and comfort.
Schlatt and Charlie: He accidentally shot Karl when he portaled into their house above the casino and thought he was an intruder. Realizing that the wound was 100% fatal and Quackity was absolutely going to murder him, he went and got Charlie to show him and so they're both freaking out. And then Karl does the smoke dissolving thing his body does when he dies and they freak out even more. All this commotion brings in Quackity, who's ready for an adventure with Karl and Sapnap. Instead he finds his two closest friends having mental breakdowns and debating telling him something. Karl comes back a few seconds later and acts like nothing happened but he does make a few death jokes. (Schlatt: "I-I killed you." Q: "What?" S: "I THOUGHT HE WAS AN INTRUDER SO I SHOT HIM!") Karl isn't offended at all, killing him is like accidentally knocking him over, it happens sometimes it's fine. Quackity is a little worked up over but Karl's fine, the other two have already worried themselves to death and back, and it was an accident, so he let's it go.
--------
Bad (and Skeppy): I don't think they'd really ever witness it first hand. Perhaps someone poisons his drink? Doesn't matter, it happens and Karl dies in front of them. The moment they figure out what's happening they call for a doctor. Karl disappearing into smoke does leave them shocked into silence but they find their voices again once he's back (it's the only time anyone has heard Bad say what the fuck and he will deny it to his dying breath). Bad lifts him up and carries him back to the infirmary, scolding him about being a muffin head and "you can't die before the wedding darn it". Once they're sure he's not dying again, they listen to the explanation. It's strangely comforting, to know their son, someone who spends so much time protecting others, is dating a man who can protect him as well.
Dream and George: I think they'd find out at the same time, during a manhunt, where Karl has joined as a hunter and Dream is the hunted. During a risky move, Karl falls and gets impaled by some sharp rocks. Immediately, the hunt is called off and everyone goes down to hopefully get him some medical attention but he smokes away before anyone can do anything. Everyone is confused and looks over to Sapnap, who should be horrified and inconsolable but is instead looking very tired and mumbles something about telling them earlier. Than Karl reappears and tries to tackle Dream. The hunt is called off and they all sit down and talk about it. Dream and George are in disbelief but suddenly, all of Karl's vuage stories that have the character die at the end are no longer just stories told for shock factor. They're true. Karl suddenly goes from a really strange yet gentle soul with a occasionally dark sense of humor to a potential massive power house that could possibly fight XD and win.
@inkytrinket-irii anything to add on or change?

What if Bad and Skeppy helped Sapnap forge the engagement daggers?
Maybe Skeppy obtains th minerals and gems while Bad helps Sapnap smelt and gives shape to the daggers?
Maybe in Quarry it's traditional for the parents to help their kid forge the engagement daggers/jewels, especially in the Nether?
Thanks for the ask!
I love this idea!!!! Maybe it's a family thing in Quarry where a person's close family or friends help forge the engagement daggers to show approval with the person's choice or as a show of how the person being married into the family is no less of a family member that anyone else.
Sapnap and Skeppy going on a family bonding trip into some mines to collect the ores for the daggers. Sapnap acting as the light source and defense against spiders and other creatures. Skeppy actually finding and guiding Sapnap on how to dig out the ore. Both Bad and Sapnap being fire proof makes creating the daggers significantly easier because they can use their hands to mold and fix mistakes. Making a few dozen test daggers to get the shape just right before they settle on a design.
I think the practice of engagement daggers, or at least engagement weapons, could be pretty wide spread across Quarry, especially considering the large amount of dangerous wildlife and creatures that live there. I think the practice of having family members help make it or even the practice of making them personally could be confined to the Neather Kingdom's. Maybe it's a part of demon culture in general to at least make a part of the weapon or even make the entire thing if you have the skills but the whole "family members being involved in the making as well" is a specific Neather Waste culture thing (where Sapnap lives), mostly because it has one of the highest density populations of fire proof people (due to all the lava).
@inkytrinket-irii what do you think?

okay take two I got 2/3rds of the way done and it got erased
All the paragraphs are just cultural patterns, none are rules. All of the inverted and reversed ones can go regular as well. I just was having fun ^^
Tundra
Generally names come from celestial or natural-force sources. A theme of danger and ominousness but, in context, auspiciousness runs deep. Altogether, a fierce and humble elegance.
Albedo - To oversimplify: the light reflection off a surface (generally it’s used astronomically but can also apply to snow lines)
Boreas - North wind
Bliz - From blizzard (I tried to invert this but it didn’t look great)
Buster - A sudden strong wind
Canis - A constellation of a dog (I believe it primarily is visible from the arctic?)
Delft - A dark shade of blue
Eci [Eh-see] - Ice reversed
Fleck - A small scattering of light or snow
Glide - Like over snow slopes
Gale - A powerful wind
Lepus - A constellation of a hare
Looc [Looke] - Cool upside down (or reversed, either way is the same)
Skate - Like over ice
Squall - A strong wind off a storm
Tuft - Like fur
 Zephyr - A breeze
-
Woodland
Names often reflect ideal/rustic/beautiful things such as fruit, trees, and precious metals. Even those with more work-related origins have an idealized wood life visual to them.
Aspin - A type of tree
Ash - A type of tree (also from campfires)
Aril - Seed shell
Axe - Like the tool
Balsa - A type of tree
Brook - Like the stream
Dia - Like diamond (they’re not technically associated with woodlands but I do for some reason)
Ekoms - Smoke reversed
Gala - A type of apple
Golden - A type of apple (and like the metal)
Jepwit [Jep-whit] - Timber upside down
Kauri - A type of tree
Nectar - Like honey (and fruit)
Redde [Reddy] - From red delicious (type of apple)
Rup - Like syrup
Sap - Like the tree blood (also matching Sapnap, perhaps like a Jack to a Jackson)
-
Mountains
The mountain nation(s) common names reflect this by forming from large--both in the literal and metaphorical sense--concepts. In fact, literal and metaphorical significance is a running theme most notably in vision. Both in their unique geological perspective and wisdom are heavily valued.
Cascade - Like the waterfall/cliffside (could be called Cass for short)
Cliff - Like the mountain side
Crys - Like crystal
Cuiw [Cwee-youh] - Mine upside down
Emin - From eminence
Halides - A type of ore
Horizon - Like the skyline (one of my favorite part of mountains)
Ingot - Like the metal form
Ken - Awareness range (from the idea of view)
Linn - The body of water below a waterfall
Pix - From pickax
Palisade - A type of blockade (could be Pal or Pali short)
Ridge - A slim mountain/hill top
Slate - A type of rock
Tiwwns [Teens] - Summit upside down
Uozijoy [You-zoh] - Horizon upside down (I liked this one)
-
Jungle
Colors and surroundings make up the majority of the naming culture. Similar to the woodlands but with less of an aesthetic and more of a blatant-ness. Most of the name origins are obvious (for reference, the name Jason comes from the word healer but the name Grace we can figure out on the spot).
Aloe - Like the plant
Bean - Like the plant
Bromeliad - Like the flower
Cacao - Like the beans
Cane - Like the plant
Dart - A type of frog
Erythro - Prefix meaning red (could be nicknamed or renamed Ery)
Flit - Like the motion
Howl - From howler monkeys
Kalei [Kal-ee] - From kaleidoscope
Kunjt - Trunk upside down
Leuko - Prefix meaning white
Melano - Prefix for black (generally used in biology)
Mosy - From mosaic
Passiflora - Like the flower
Sajow [Saw-jo] - Morass upside down (and take away an S)
-
Mesa
Humility and simpleness are found throughout the common names. They share some rustic similarities with woodland names in that way, but there is a notable difference. The woodlands are very idealized and more-so stylized in name while mesa is more blatant, descriptive, and prosaic.
Arid - Dry and hot
Barrel - A type of cactus (and fits the backwater vibe)
Bolt - The metal fixture (from railways which I always find in mesa biomes)
Chollas - A type of cactus
Clay - From pottery
Crocker - Like pottery
Dustin - From dust
Eolian - Relating to wind
Inlet - A river flowing into the mainland (these also often spawn in mesa biomes)
Kcits [Kits] - Stick upside down (just regular stick or branch would also be a good name)
Kiln - The oven that cooks pottery
Par - Jab (from cacti or stinger) upside down
Pane - Like glass
Switch - From railways
Sirocco - South wind
Spike - Like on a cactus
-
Plains
The plains name origins are more closely related to the species that originate from the area. They carry over to anyone who moved there regardless of species though.
Crest - Like feathers
Ivory - Not actually related to field animal horns but a pretty name nonetheless
Moc [Mock] - Cow upside down
Neb - End of an animal’s face (like a snout)
Oscine - Relating to small song birds (including many field birds that remind me of farms)
Oxeye - Like the daisy (Daisy also probably a common name)
Poppy - Like the flower
Rye - Like the crop
Scutch - A type of grass
Senooy [Sen-oi] - Hooves upside down
Silk - From weave work
Steppe - A type of grassland
Spur - The device used to urge a horse further
Sky - There’s a ton of that in the fields
Kera [Care-a] - From keratin (what horns are actually make of, also hooves)
Zoysia - A type of grass

I'm glad you like my concept ideas!
Anyway, for the Lenses part, my idea was this:
Someone, somehow, manages to steal one or more Lenses (or they are some still free, or I don't know), and threatens Karl to destroy them if he doesn't do a certain thing, thinking he has won it easy because not many see Karl as a dangerous person. But, unfortunately for the person, Karl is dangerous and powerful, and therefore loses control from the anger he feels.
Maybe the Bad Guy decides to hurt/capture Sapnap and Quackity as well as an incentive to bargain, so he's double dead
Karl's job/function is to contain and capture any lose lenses so him losing control could be his version of "instincts" kicking in to protect the lenses from harm. Destroying a Lense is probably near impossible to do but doing so would create catastrophic consequences to other dimensions, depending on which one was destroyed. His job is to protect and collect the lenses, so destroying them is directly against his existence.
Wait, that actually creates an interesting dynamic with Crimson. What if Karl literally can not feel hatred towards the lense? He knows he should hate Crimson for what it's done to him, his friends, his family, everyone. He knows he should want it destroyed and gone forever so it can never hurt anyone again, but he doesn't. He can't feel any of that, when people talk about ways to destroy Crimson it makes his entire being tense in alarm, when they do find a way to destroy the Crimson he has to physically restrain himself from destroying or tampering with it himself. He feels terrible because the only thing he can feel when people talk about destroying the Crimson forever is an overwhelming sense of horror and dread.
He hates it. Crimson has done nothing but hurt him and his loved ones. He can't even bring up the thought that he'd want it dead. He can't hate Crimson and that might be the worst part of all of it for Karl.
@inkytrinket-irii Wow, I've gotten really good at angst. What do you think? Anything you want to add?

do you have any posts/tags/how would you'd recommend to someone wanting to get into this?
I’m sorry I don’t know if I understand your question. You want an introduction to our AU? (Correct me if not.)
To be honest we (or, I--I don’t wanna speak for CK) haven’t been focusing on making this readable for a while. Since it’s mostly just been us expanding to the other, who already knows all the background.  This blog became a kind of archive until suddenly we started getting interests recently. It could use some spring cleaning.
As for some introductory posts:

Hello! I think I kinda get what you're asking!
Well, if you're looking for just the pure Plot of this AU check the "#ksq dimensions plot" tag, for Lore check the "#ksq dimensions lore" tag. My personal favorite tags are the "#ksq dimensions lmao" tag and the "#ksq dimensions content" tag!
Everything builds off each other so it might honestly be best to just scroll to the bottom and work your way up? If you really want to understand the AU, it's less confusing to go from the beginning to the end but you can just as easily scroll through any tag and get a good idea of what's going on.

I can see Karl dressing with more feminine dresses, and being "honk gender roles" because 1, he doesn't care, and 2, what exactly are gender roles?
Exactly correct! "What" is pretty much his question to everything and
In Dimensions!Canon Karl is actually pangender because he sees anything and goes either 1. Can I make that 2. Can I be that 3. Can I do that
often all 4

Quarry they meet the new end dragon’s egg (Dreams secret real job was to help hatch protect and carry out the dragon/eggs will) and Karl jumps in picking up the baby dragon (who’s like the size of a Karelian Bear Dog).
He’s just spinning her around and gasping at the cute baby dragon while everyone else is blue-screened cause that’s kind of like their worlds devil as there’s not supposed to be any gods but XD.
XD killed the ended dragon a long LONG LONG time ago and ascended to the only god.
They tentatively ask Karl what… does he know what… that is? And he, still spinning around, says yeah! “I can feel the threads bind together, what I never knew was a patch has been woven up again completely. She is the blood of this dimension. XD may be the mind, the personality, but she is the spirit and heart of this world. I can hear it beat with every breath she takes.
Everyone: *shocked or terrified*
Karl, holding up a paw: also look at her widdle claw beans!! 🌸
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh My God this is perfect!!!!!!!! So cute!!!!!! Karl probably isn't even aware that he's spooking everyone!!!!!! Quackity is there too like "Alright, not the strangest thing that's ever happened. The winged lizard thing is kinda cute. Hey why is my sunshine looking at it like it's evil personified?"
Maybe the first ender dragon never properly learned what humans were? Like a wild cat getting caught off the streets and put into an apartment building with people. At first it was content to hiss and spit at who ever came near it. But one day it decided to take action and actively hunt out humans. That's when XD stepped in and killed them.
Plus, since the dragon is the heart and spirit of the dimension, maybe there were a lot of wars going on and conflict. The dragon would have reflected that aggression and fight.
Karl probably informs them that as long as the baby has good and positive interactions with humans, there should be no reason for it to start murdering everyone. Sapnap is the most skeptical of the three, but the moment Karl convinces him to give the baby head scratches, his heart melts.
Wait, what if it imprints on Quackity at first, because he would be the only other thing with wings!!! Baby ender dragon starts following and copying Quackity and he's like, "you wanna be my kid? Fine, but I can't keep you at my place, I already got one over there. You stay here with Sapnap alright? Now, can I teach you how to pick pocket people?"
Quackity is not allowed to be alone with the baby after that! Lol!

We know how Sapnap and Karl meet, so what about Quackity and Karl? And how Quackity and Sapnap meet each other?
This is the story of how Quackity and Karl met! Sorry that it's not very neat looking, I'm not sure how to do linked text myself. (I did it! I made linked text!!!)
Quackity and Sapnap met because Karl introduced them to each other. I'm pretty sure Karl brought Sapnap to the casino to show him the sights of Prowa and Quackity probably noticed and decided to talk to them. They got to chatting and decided they wanted to talk some more another time. One thing led to another and bam, the trio are dating.

hello, there! i'm somewhat new to this au, it looks very cool! if i can ask, does this karl have memory problems?
Nope. He mostly struggles with too much information, sometimes conflicting, rather than a lack of any.
(Here’s a link to some introductions if you’re new and you’d like)

Note
How did Sapnap and Quackity react to Karl's death for the first time?
Absolutely distraught.
Sapnap was desolate and feeling more than a little responsible for not protecting him better. Quackity was enraged, ready to slaughter every single living thing in this dimension as retribution. The only reason he was stopped was Sapnap dragging him away and Snapping him out of it with a “i cant lose you too” moment. A beat passed where it sunk in they’d be trapped here forever as well.
Then, of course, when Karl comes back panicked and frazzled they are overjoyed! They bombard him with hugs and love and “we’re so happy you’re okay! We thought you were dead!”
Karl says “I was” but neither fully understand how literal until it happens again. (Both get 200% more protective until the full scope of his power dawns on them and a serious explanation is had about what he is. This probably happens around the same time as Karl being told his purpose as The Prism and all the lenses.)

When they visit different dimension/cultures Sapnap is very aware of the foods and tastes and Quack particularly is interested in the music and sounds.
