i like the design of harold and george 💖✨💀
So a few months ago when I was in a… certain mental state… my mind was all ‘Hey you know what would be hilarious for so many reasons? How about a Corpse Bride AU for Captain Underpants?’ And I… actually went with it. And worked on the images until I felt ready to post them in October.
…IDk. Either they are both separate or there’s some kind of symbolistic thing going on. Take your pick.
Also, I looked at the fashions from the era that the CB was set in, and I HAD to give Krupp some sort of long coat. I’m a sucker for guys in long coats (especially big guys in long coats. I blame Russia from Hetalia for that one).
One of George and Harold’s pranks backfired. Horribly AND with fatal consequences. But hey, they get to stay young and together forever in death, right? (Also, I’m sorry if I’m awful at drawing skeleton anatomy).
I loved designing that wedding dress based off the dresses from the Victorian era. :)
I’m NOT writing another huge multi-chapter au for this, but the idea was too amusing to keep to myself.

I realized something no one brought up after ‘The epic tales of Captain Underpants’ in regards to (*deep sigh of annoyance*) Krupp’s terrible excuse for the mom.
Which is, if Edith was around in the show, or if THAT version of his mom existed in the film!universe ... what would exactly happen?
Because honestly, I think there’s no way in hell Krupp would let Edith near his mom. Considering how much she made his life miserable and drove him into having a damaged mentality that he retained into his adulthood, he wouldn’t want Edith to have to deal with her. He wouldn’t want her to have to deal with how awful that woman could be, or to have her hear her insult him or see the memories of his awful childhood. Like she wouldn’t be saying friendly teasing things or adorable, yet embarassing stories that I imagine most parents would give to the significant other of their child–this would be like MAJOR putting him down and humiliating him in front of the woman he adores.
He wouldn’t want Edith to get insulted or hurt in the process, or to have one of the few things about his life that makes him happy be ruined.
But on the other hand, Edith looks like the type who might be able to do more than just handle herself. If she had to met Krupp’s mom sooner or later, she’d be horrified and saddened because suddenly some things are starting to make sense. I think she wouldn’t say anything out of politeness, but then it would take one too many insults for her to finally put her foot down and face this woman.
I think she would tell her that she shouldn’t call her son a disappointment and should have supported him–he managed to get an education, get a hard job that requires a lot of work and having to deal with a lot of hard issues, and he’s been doing just fine, and she should be proud of him. He’s ben capable of FAR more things than she thinks.
(And I think as much as she almost wants to tell this woman about her son’s ‘other’ occupation–let her know that he’s done the impossible, nearly risked his life more than once, and has support the whole time– she can’t because she can tell right away that this woman could take advantage of it if she ever found out).
Also, Edith would make it VERY clear how proud she is of Benjamin and how much she cares about him, what’s past is past, she enjoys being with him, and that he deserved a far better parental figure than his own mother before leaving.
...And as a fun bonus, Benjamin would have heard that conversation and I think he would be more than surprised. Given that he clearly didn’t have a lot of other (nicer) adults to look up to, this would mean a lot to him and most likely he’d appreciate and adore Edith even more.
(Also on a side note, if Benjamin ever by some miracle had a child, I highly doubt he’d leave that kid alone with his mom).

There was a secret drawing I did on the page in my notebook where I did all those Dreamworks Princess drawings awhile ago that I never mentioned and finally inked out. Specifically based on a familiar scene for the Snow White AU that I could not resist.

I had an idea that struck me for the CU Beauty and the Beast AU between @rigamaroo and I. I feel like it was too long to include in an ask for them, so now I’ll just share it here.
I was thinking of a few things as well as a certain line from Unchained Melody–the song that Rigamaroo suggested for the equivalent of the ballroom scene.
I keep thinking of that idea how, when Krupp has the epic freakout over the rose (and people barging into his private space in general), he ends up ripping off/tearing Edith’s sleeve like in the musical version of BatB. (Yes really, it does happen, and the Beast was horrified over what he did and it’s super sad). Again, I don’t think Krupp was ever super physical against someone when he lashed out in any version of CU, but I think his rage and the fact that he’s slowly, mentally becoming a monster, is effecting his judgement for the worse and it’s getting way too easier to give into the anger than it normally would be.
He’d be horrified over almost actually hurting a person, but I think that moment would be traumatic enough for him to avoid actually touching Edith and the boys if he can help it. There’s moments where it’s not as bad if it’s them who touch him/lean against him/etc. and I still like Rigamaroo’s idea of him lifting Edith up to help clean up a spot in the school. But he’s getting really concerned over having a repeat or worse in his current form.
On the other hand, he doesn’t have to worry about hurting Edith in the dreamworld as CU since it’s the only time he can be human and he doesn’t have claws that can tear through anything. It would explain why ‘CU’ is so open to hugging Edith as well as pulling her by the hand, holding her hand in general, etc. As someone who hasn’t had a lot of positive physical contact with another (even before the curse), it would be hard to resist, but it would make waking up much more frustrating. Because no matter how badly he finds himself wanting to do something as simple as place a reassuring hand on her shoulder (and later much more) he feels like he just can’t do something as normal as that. He never had many chances to do so–most of which he chose against–and now it’s like he really can’t. Plus I’m sure his sensations of touch are just not the same as they used to be.
I’m just thinking of Rigamaroo’s song choice of Unchained Melody and the line ‘I’ve hungered for your touch alone’ and how badly this individual would want to have physical contact with this person he’s falling head over heels for, but doesn’t know if it would repulse or terrify her (as well as what was said above). It adds to the hesitation to the inevitable dance for Krupp because ‘what if I hurt her,’ but Edith reassures him that he won’t. And that gradual self confidence and trust and consideration that has grown for him overtime when he was with her (plus the added confidence boost that came from the dreamworld visits) would also the moment where he holds hands and gradually it’s the first time in the real world that he’s comfortable with the physical contact to the point that it no longer bothers him.
IDK, I just want a character going from mean and angry, to super nervous and conscientious about others, to feeling relaxed and confident as well as genuinely happy.

Then there was the OTHER part of the Red Diamond AAU that I don’t think I covered enough–where exactly Edith fits into all of this. Because honestly, she’d be a gem too, but the trouble is that I can’t decide between making her a Morganite that somehow has blue eyes and blue freckles or a Lace Blue Agate.
For simplicity’s sake (and until I can choose which gem) I’m referring to her by her actual name for this. It’s not perfect, but it’s basically how it would go down.
Again, this has a huge Steven Universe spoiler and this is based off an existing Gem AU by angerydj
Edith is part of Red Diamond’s colony and like most gems she’s expected to work and not question much. Most gems are terrified or hold high respect for Red Diamond, but Edith is somewhere in between–everyone knows how awful he can be when he gets angry, but she pities him somewhat because it must be lonely having to oversee everything on a base from afar with little to no contact with others.
Little does she know that she’s one of the few gems Red Diamond frequently checks on. She has no clue just how curious he is of her and that he’s developed a slight attraction to her (but don’t worry, it didn’t get to the point of being an obsession).
The first time she meets ‘Red Quartz’ is on his first day on earth, accompanied by two young gems. It’s a very fast moment–the kind where you bump into one another, apologize, and be on your way–and though she’s never seen him before, he does seem kind of cute. She doesn’t see him stare at her in amazement or briefly blush red at the sight of her before continuing on.
The second time she’s able to see Red Quartz is when he’s finally leading the rebellion (or so everyone thinks) and most gems are heavily divided about him and these other gems going against Red Diamond. Some are worried as to what Red Diamond will do in response, and there’s always soldiers being sent at this strange Quartz. The next meet up is kind of similar to last time, except it’s much longer and he’s able to say a few words of greetings to her before flying off.
He doesn’t seem like a bad gem and he does seem sweet. However she’s not sure if he’d be able to succeed in what he’s doing or not. Still it would be a shame if something bad had to happen to him.
Her curiosity grows.
Eventually there comes a moment where she’s around during a big fight involving him and some others. One gem is about ready to shatter him and without thinking too much on it, she gets in front of him and ends up taking the blow, but due to the placement of the attack, she only gets poofed.
Surprised and moved by what she had done, Red Quartz takes Edith’s gem with him... without telling Red Zircon or Yellow Sapphire.
So the next time Edith is able to reform, she finds herself in a strange place where everything as a red motif and her gem was placed on what she thinks is a mattress until she’s quick to see that it’s a huge pillow. Confused as to what has happened, she hears talking in the next room and peers through the door to see Red Quartz talking to these two young gems he is frequently seen with.
Without warning, Yellow Sapphire throws a glass of water into his face.
Then when Red Quartz recovers from the shock and talks again, Edith realizes that his voice has changed–it still sounds the same, but the brightness and smoothness of it now sounds a bit rougher than what she’s used to hearing. She also has no clue why the young gems are starting to talk to Red Quartz in past tense and why Red Quartz himself is talking as if he wasn’t there at all earlier that day.
He lets the boys go home and Edith watches as ‘Red Quartz’ is looking at himself in the mirror for a moment and just looks. exhausted and unhappy for a change. Right as she leaves the room, he begins to transform and gets bigger in size... and completely changes into a completely different gem who, despite having the same face as he does, is dressed much differently, his gem has rotated into a different position, and he looks like he has hair.
Not even a minute later, there’s a call from someone that startles both of them, but Edith is a little too loud and the gem she thought was Red Quartz turns around and freaks the heck out. “WHAT THE HECK?! WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!”
And to make matters worse, the call screen shows it’s one of the Diamonds, so the larger gem ends up grabbing the smaller gem and carefully keeps her out of sight as he’s forced to talk to the diamond about how the latest ‘disturbance’ went and he acts as if it was a bad thing, and Edith is getting quickly confused. Even more so when she hears him being called ‘Red Diamond.’
Once the call is over, she’s held a bit more carefully by Red Diamond who begins to ask her how much she knows, and she nervously tells him what happened, which shocks him. Then she asks him what is going on, and he’s forced to tell her the truth–he IS Red Quartz. He just didn’t remember saving her because he had to create a second personality in order to keep others from figuring out the truth. The only others who know about his identity are the two gems from before. Although she’s afraid, he promises he won’t do anything to Edith as long as she keeps this a secret and she agrees.
She does keep the secret, though it pains her to see just how much Red Diamond actually does care about the others and the planet, and that he has to let himself be painted as the villain in order to accomplish freeing the planet. Gradually she’d get to know him more and he’d be comfortable enough to admit that he had seen her long before this all started. She’d start noticing more things about him that makes her care and slowly adore him–the real him.
Then she’d notice that he wouldn’t be using his true form around her or Yellow Sapphire and Red Zircon as often whenever he’s alone with them–he’d be using the same form as when he looks like Red Quartz, but there’s some alterations so that he’d be dressed similar to when he’s Red Diamond (fake hair and all), but it’s less intimidating and more casual. As if he’s wanting to be someone in between both identities that feels comfortable for him. As if he wants to be closer to their size instead of as a giant towering over them all.
(In truth, he also has another reason–he wants to feel equal to her and be able to properly look at her face. And, when he can finally work up the courage to confess, be able to do things like be able to hold her hand or hug her or even kiss her).

This would make a cute valentine’s day card! There’s some sort of old-timeyness about it in the poses and in the expressions (especially that smile!).

I wouldn’t be surprised if Edith ALSO liked ‘How the Grinch stole Christmas’ as a child. Unlike Krupp, she’d actually like the ending (and didn’t tear the last 7 pages out) because not only did it suggest that the holiday is best when people are spending time together, but because it turned out the Grinch was actually a bit of a softie under all that nastiness and grumpiness.
You know, like a certain someone.
She’s probably the only one who’d get away with calling Krupp ‘The Grinch’ or any form of the word because it’s actually used as a term of endearment around the holidays for him, instead of as an insult by others. For possible similar reasons, she’d be the only one who’d get away with singing the song near him, while others (namely George and Harold) would normally get yelled at or get glared at.

While it’s easy to guess that almost all the books will be adapted for the new Captain Underpants series, I realized there would be some interesting changes if they keep Edith (Which they better. I swear they better not kick her off for the sake of trying to maintain a status quo or just because like with most animated cartoon adaptions).
-If they adapt book 3, I bet you anything that the aliens will abduct her or do something to make it look like she quits/goes missing to fulfill their mission. If she turns out to be an alien like everyone wishes... well things will get interesting. (I’m not into the idea myself, but it will be interesting if proven true). Bonus points if Krupp blames the boys for it OR if CU gets to save her.
(-Looked at that name change chart from book 4 and saw that her name would have been ‘Crusty’.... provided that they adapt that original plan from that book for an episode. Just throwing this in for fun.).
-I want to see how she reacts to the fake proposal/marriage from book 5.
-I want to see her on the field trip from book 6 instead of the secretary.... mainly so CU/Krupp will get kissed by someone they ACTUALLY like. (Despite the… uh… one snotty part of that scene, I still want to see it).
-The alternate universe from book 8. She’d probably get a three second cameo, but there’s sooooo many possibilities to think of.
(Bonus: if they ever adapt the last book, I bet there will be a HUUUUUGE ‘take that’ ending that ensures CU survives, especially if there will be a movie sequel).

I noticed there was an extreme lack of gender swapped CU fan art and I decided to make some of my own for fun.
-Krupp was the easiest to visualize. I imagined this version trying to look as orderly as possible... and since I’m guessing it was on someone’s mind, this design DID remind me of a certain headmistress from a Dahl book, but she was not the inspiration behind it.
-I love the idea of the female version of CU being a total girly-girl. I actually WANTED her to be bald, because bald women can be just as pretty as women with hair. But when I tried that design, but since I was using a Pilkey inspired design it just looked like her male counterpart, but with a ‘couple’ of additions and it looked incredibly wrong to me. So I opted for a ‘Clark Kenting’ approach and made her hair this incredible wild mess, in addition to giving her a more a more open and confident posture and sweet, energetic aura.
-Ah yes, George and Harold’s counter parts. I see both of them as a bit like the boy versions–like they still find toilet humor funny and would be into skateboarding and video games, but they might also be into dolls and jewelry too. If the tree house was every boy’s dream, imagine how it would be if it were a girl’s dream come true). I tweeted their designs to keep them from looking too much like the boys if they had long hair. (Though fem!Harold DOES look a bit like Heidi). Also, this version of CU would ADORE the girls and be like a big sis! :)
-CU-as-Krupp would be just as disorganized looking, but I also imagine the girls having fun giving her a make-over and making her look a tad cuter.
-I don’t know if male versions of lunch ladies are as well known as female versions, so I opted to make Edith’s counterpart a repairman/school custodian. I made him a bit scruffier looking as a bonus and.... uh, I have to admit that I found myself a bit smitten with the end result. He IS pretty cute looking in my opinion.
-The only time I’ve ever drawn Melvin and the Professor, both of whom were easier to design than the others. (Though I’m reminded of that one character from the Dilbert comics with Professor P.).
-Had to include an additional pic of fem!CU and male!Edith. I NEEDED to.
-I like the name ‘Beatrice’ for Krupp’s female counterpart. Especially if you make her nickname ‘Bee’ and then you can turn the name into a pun ‘Bee Krupp’= ‘Be corrupt.’ For the female George and Harold, I like ‘Gwen’ and ‘Hannah.’ Male!Edith would be ‘Ethan.’ Melvin’s female counterpart would be ‘Melanie. And the professor.... uh... Idk... ‘Peetoria?’

continuing with that Jumanji AU idea...
So I said that I could see either Edith or Benjamin getting sucked into the game and while I could see Krupp ending up as he usually is if he gets spared and has his usual job, the potential of what happens if it’s him that gets trapped is a bit more interesting.
Like he’s been stuck in the game for so long that at some point he was turned into CU and is thus subjected to being changed with little to no notice, but he knows what happens to him when that happens.
So by the time George and Harold get Krupp out of the game, he’s a bit like his canon self but a bit more paranoid and cowardly. Oh, also he’s in his CU persona when he first gets out, so he has no clue what happened until he gets splashed with water.
He has NO freaking desire to continue the game at the boys’ insistence and he’s not even thinking of thanking them for freeing him (and it’s not until it’s almost too late). On the other hand, CU has some awareness of what happened to him and IS immediately thanking the boys, but being in the game for so long made him a bit... uh, delusional. So the only way the boys can convince Krupp to resume the game is that if they finish, perhaps it can undo the hypnosis on him for good and he can finally put the past behind him.
Except his family left Piqua after trying so long to look for him and no one knew what happened to him. So Krupp is even more alone in the real world than he was in all those years. The only thing he has left is a photo of himself with a young child that was taken on that fateful night.
But the only known witness and last person to ever see him is still in Piqua and just happens to be working at the school that the boys go to. A school that is unfortunately not doing so well and is days away from getting shut down due to poor managing.
So after George lends his dad’s clothing to Krupp (though good luck finding him a toupee), the boys take him to the school to reunite him with Edith. She hasn’t changed too much except she’s a little more withdrawn than usual.
****
Now on the other hand, if it’s EDITH, a similar scenario would play out, except she of course wasn’t hypnotized during those years and it’s easier for the boys to try to convince her to resume the game. Though they cannot believe it when they find out that Edith’s friend just so happens to be their foul tempered principal.
So when they do get back to the school, Krupp is of course yelling at the two for ditching while Edith silently observes what that young boy turned into as an adult. When he finally notices her, Harold is about to lie and say she’s his aunt but Edith then asks Krupp questions about that night before giving him the photo to prove her identity.
Cue him stammering out the infamous stammer thing that he does before passing out.
(He’d also end up turning into CU at some point before the story was over. Edith will find it hilarious and adorable all at once).
****
Either way, one person is going to realize that the other grew up to be really pretty but still kind / handsome and still sweet under all those layers of bitterness.
(But I totally love the idea of Krupp carrying Edith back to the house with the boys and then when he gets a chance to get another look at her again, he’s starting to feel feelings he didn’t think he’d ever feel... ESPECIALLY with the adult version of the last real friend he ever had).

Me: I man I come up with WAY too many AU’s for the CU fandom. Maybe I should give it a rest. My brain: Hey, what about a Jumanji AU? Me: OH MY GOD, WHY?!
But in all seriousness I COULD see this AU. But the game would be using a host of characters from across the books (and maybe the spin off books) instead of using a jungle theme.
And I admit that I automatically imagined Benjamin and Edith in Allan and Sarah’s roles, but I’m not hundred percent sure who would get what role because either way would be promising. (As tempting as it would be to use George and Harold for those roles, I recalled what happened the last time Thomas Middleditch voiced a character who was trapped in another world... yeah, I didn’t want that). Because on one hand if it’s Benjamin that gets sucked in, it would be the most obvious choice and being trapped in the game would not be without some side-effect for him (*cough*Captain Underpants*cough*) but if it was Edith, well... it’s safe to guess how that would have effected Benjamin as an adult and I could see some inevitable Gravity Falls parallels (if you know what I mean).
I don’t have the details finalized but here’s what I came up with.
My starting point was that, on the fateful day the game was played, Benjamin is somewhere between 4th and 6th grade and wasn’t having a good day–you know, get in a fight with other students, get rejected by classmates he wanted to be friends with, or get invited to do something fun with a crush, only for it to horribly backfire–and he’s sent to watch over Edith at her house while her parents are gone for the night.
Meanwhile, Edith is a shy, but kind hearted, well meaning little sweetheart of four or five years of age and who wishes to have a friend since her parents recently moved to Piqua. At this point in her age, she has an active imagination and is also quite energetic. She doesn’t know what to make of this older boy and is intimidated by him at first.
Benjamin isn’t in the best of moods about the whole thing and feels like his family doesn’t really care about how he’s been feeling. Meanwhile, Edith wants him to play pretend with her and after he angrily vents to her about his day, she decides she wants to act out a superhero scenario with him and perhaps the bullies he’s been facing will be the bad guys. He goes along with it and it actually helps him feel better to the point he starts to have fun with Edith, who insists on being his friend and who even made him the hero in her game.
At one point he helps her take a picture of them together with one of those cameras that prints out the image right on the spot. Edith tells Benjamin that she’ll be his friend if no one else will and that he’ll always be a great superhero in her eyes. Benjamin appreciates this very much and promises he’ll be there for her if she gets in serious trouble and no one else is around–he’ll clobber them good if they think of hurting her.
Neither know that their friendship as kids may develop into something more when they are adults.
Neither know that the photo is about to become a tragic keepsake for one of the two. (And will prove their identity to the other).
Neither know that they will never see each other again for almost twenty six to thirty years after this night.
The two find a strange board game that somehow got its way into the house. Both are curious as to what kind of game this will be and it has some bizarre characters on it. There’s still so much time before Edith’s parents come home, so they get the game started, with Benjamin reading everything for Edith (who is still learning how to read).
Within ten minutes, one of the two is going to get sucked into the game for many years. They are going to be stuck in the game until two best friends who decide to ditch a mandatory school event find the game and resume what was left off.
