so once me and my wife were watching a documentary where a snake ate like a million eggs. that snake just went to fucking town on eggs. and the snake made the eggs look so good that i kept thinking about it, and thinking about it, and thinking about it, and eventually it was 11pm and i ran out of willpower and decided to eat one (1) singular raw egg just to prove to myself that the snake was surely a liar.
the snake was not a liar. texture is like, super important to me and raw eggs are very Texture so i had another one, and then another one, and then another one, and eventually i ran out of eggs.
i had like, fifteen raw eggs.
i didnt really know how to explain this momentary madness to my wife, so my Plan was to put all the eggshells into a grocey bag, and then throw that grocery bag in the dumpster, and if she never noticed that would be Excellent and if she noticed immediately i could lie and say that the eggs went bad.
except i cant lie very good, and of course with murphys law being such, i got salmonella.
so i threw up a lot and my wife asked me what poisoned me so and i tried very hard to dodge the question but i was oozing shame like oil from a room temperature cheese and eventaully i gave in and told her everything and to her enormous credit she was more flabbergasted than actually upset. she did make me promise to not eat any more raw eggs, which i have stuck to, and she gives me weird looks during nature documentaries now as if desire was the only thing keeping me from eating thousands of pounds of krill anyway i made a joke earlier about being able to eat my age in eggs and my sister in law in law made a drawing to comemorate the moment and also because it was my birthday. she's excellent. thank you 10000000% @cintailed. you should all visit her page and admire her work.

The Benefits of Krill Oil for Skin: A Comprehensive Guide
Krill oil has gained popularity as a powerhouse supplement for overall health, thanks to its rich content of omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, and other nutrients. While it's well-known for its heart and joint benefits, krill oil is increasingly recognized for its positive effects on skin health. In this comprehensive guide, we’ll explore how krill oil can transform your skin, making it more radiant, smooth, and youthful.
Tumblr media
What is Krill Oil?
Krill oil is derived from tiny, shrimp-like marine creatures known as krill, which live in the cold waters of the Antarctic Ocean. Like fish oil, krill oil contains high levels of omega-3 fatty acids, but its chemical structure and nutrient composition give it a unique edge. The omega-3s in krill oil are bound to phospholipids, which are more easily absorbed by the body compared to the triglyceride form found in fish oil. This makes krill oil a more bioavailable source of omega-3, and as a result, krill oil delivers potent benefits to the skin.
The Nutritional Composition of Krill Oil
Before diving into the specific skin benefits of krill oil, it’s essential to understand its key components:
Omega-3 Fatty Acids (EPA and DHA): These essential fatty acids are crucial for maintaining cell membrane health and reducing inflammation.
Astaxanthin: A potent antioxidant that gives krill its reddish color and provides protection against oxidative stress and free radical damage.
Phospholipids: These fats help omega-3s integrate into cell membranes more efficiently, promoting better absorption and utilization.
Vitamins A and E: Both of these are known for their skin-nourishing properties, aiding in cell repair and protection.
How Krill Oil Benefits the Skin
1. Improves Skin Hydration
One of the primary benefits of krill oil for the skin is its ability to improve hydration. Omega-3 fatty acids, especially EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid), play a vital role in maintaining the skin’s lipid barrier, which is responsible for locking in moisture. A healthy lipid barrier helps to keep the skin plump, smooth, and hydrated.
Krill oil's phospholipid-bound omega-3s are particularly effective in replenishing moisture because they are more easily incorporated into the skin's cell membranes. This results in deeper hydration, which can combat dryness, flakiness, and rough textures, leaving the skin feeling soft and supple.
2. Reduces Inflammation and Skin Sensitivity
Chronic inflammation is one of the main culprits behind various skin conditions, including acne, eczema, and psoriasis. Omega-3 fatty acids in krill oil are well-known for their anti-inflammatory properties. By reducing the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, krill oil can help calm inflamed skin and minimize irritation.
People with sensitive skin often suffer from redness, swelling, and discomfort due to environmental factors or product use. Regular consumption of krill oil can help reduce these symptoms, providing relief to those with reactive or sensitive skin types.
3. Combats Premature Aging
Krill oil is rich in antioxidants, particularly astaxanthin, which is considered one of the most powerful antioxidants known to science. Antioxidants neutralize free radicals, unstable molecules that damage cells and accelerate the aging process. Free radical damage is a significant contributor to wrinkles, fine lines, and skin sagging.
Astaxanthin helps protect the skin from oxidative stress caused by UV exposure, pollution, and other environmental factors. This antioxidant defense can slow down the formation of fine lines, wrinkles, and other signs of aging. In fact, studies have shown that astaxanthin is more effective than both vitamin E and beta-carotene at reducing oxidative damage in the skin.
4. Enhances Skin Elasticity and Firmness
In addition to reducing wrinkles, krill oil can help improve skin elasticity and firmness. The omega-3s in krill oil help maintain the structural integrity of the skin by supporting collagen production. Collagen is a protein that provides the skin with strength and elasticity, but its production decreases as we age, leading to sagging and less resilient skin.
By boosting collagen synthesis, krill oil helps keep the skin firm and elastic, giving it a youthful appearance. This is especially beneficial for people looking to maintain or restore skin suppleness as they age.
5. Promotes an Even Skin Tone
Uneven skin tone, hyperpigmentation, and dark spots can occur due to sun damage, acne scars, or aging. Krill oil’s anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties can help reduce the appearance of these blemishes by promoting cell turnover and healing damaged skin.
Omega-3s also play a role in controlling melanin production, the pigment responsible for skin color. By balancing melanin levels, krill oil can help prevent excessive pigmentation, leading to a more even and radiant complexion over time.
6. Boosts Skin Healing and Repair
Krill oil’s combination of omega-3s, phospholipids, and antioxidants makes it an excellent supplement for promoting skin healing and repair. Whether you’re dealing with acne scars, cuts, or other skin injuries, the nutrients in krill oil can accelerate the healing process.
Omega-3s are known to aid in the regeneration of skin cells, while phospholipids help improve the overall function of the skin barrier. This makes krill oil particularly useful for individuals recovering from skin trauma or undergoing dermatological treatments like chemical peels or laser therapy.
Krill Oil vs. Fish Oil: Which is Better for Skin?
Many people wonder whether krill oil offers any advantages over fish oil when it comes to skin health. While both oils contain beneficial omega-3s, krill oil has several advantages:
Better Absorption: Krill oil’s omega-3s are bound to phospholipids, making them more bioavailable and easier for the body to absorb and utilize, especially in the skin.
Antioxidant Power: Krill oil contains astaxanthin, which is absent in fish oil. This antioxidant gives krill oil a unique edge in protecting the skin from free radical damage.
Less Risk of Contaminants: Because krill are at the bottom of the food chain, they are less likely to accumulate toxins like mercury, which can sometimes be a concern with fish oil.
How to Incorporate Krill Oil into Your Skincare Routine
Taking krill oil as a supplement is the most effective way to enjoy its skin benefits. The recommended dosage for most people is between 500-1000 mg of krill oil per day, though it’s best to consult with a healthcare provider for personalized advice.
Additionally, some skincare products now contain krill oil as an ingredient, which can be applied topically. However, oral supplementation is the most researched and effective way to deliver the essential nutrients to the skin from the inside out.
Conclusion
Krill oil is a nutrient-dense supplement that offers a wide range of benefits for skin health. From improving hydration and elasticity to reducing inflammation and signs of aging, krill oil can be a valuable addition to any skincare routine. Whether taken as a daily supplement or used in topical products, krill oil’s unique combination of omega-3s, antioxidants, and phospholipids can help you achieve smoother, more radiant, and healthier skin.

A Welcome Relief: My Experience with Krill Oil
Tumblr media
I've always been interested in natural ways to support my health, and lately, I've been focusing on boosting my overall well-being. After some research, I decided to try krill oil, a supplement derived from tiny shrimp-like creatures found in the ocean. Improved Joint Comfort For years, I've dealt with occasional stiffness and discomfort in my knees, especially after exercise. After incorporating krill oil into my daily routine, I've noticed a significant improvement. The stiffness seems to have lessened, and I can move more freely. While I still listen to my body and avoid overexertion, krill oil has definitely become a welcome addition to my pre-workout ritual. Easy to Swallow, No Fishy Aftertaste One of the things that initially worried me about krill oil was the potential for a fishy aftertaste. Thankfully, the brand I chose uses high-quality krill and a special coating on the softgels, eliminating any unpleasant aftertaste. The capsules are also a comfortable size and very easy to swallow. Potential Heart Health Benefits Maintaining good heart health is a priority for me as I age. Krill oil is a natural source of omega-3 fatty acids, particularly EPA and DHA, which have been linked to promoting heart health in numerous studies. While I haven't had any tests done recently, I feel confident that krill oil is contributing to a healthy cardiovascular system. A Brighter Outlook? Some research suggests that krill oil may have mood-supporting properties. While I can't definitively say it's a cure-all, I have noticed a general feeling of well-being since taking krill oil. It could be a combination of the health benefits I mentioned earlier, or perhaps the krill oil does play a role in mood regulation. Regardless, I'm happy with the positive shift in my overall outlook. A Word of Caution It's important to note that I'm not a medical professional, and this review reflects my personal experience. As with any new supplement, it's crucial to consult with your doctor before starting krill oil, especially if you have any underlying health conditions or take medications. Overall, I've been very impressed with the positive impact krill oil has had on my health and well-being. It's a natural supplement that's easy to incorporate into my routine, and the potential benefits are numerous. If you're looking for a way to support your overall health, I highly recommend talking to your doctor about whether krill oil might be right for you.

Krill Oil vs. Fish Oil: Unraveling the Key Differences and Benefits
Introduction: In the realm of nutritional supplements, two powerhouses reign supreme: krill oil and fish oil. Both boast a plethora of health benefits, thanks to their rich omega-3 fatty acid content. However, delving deeper into their compositions, sources, and potential advantages can help individuals make informed choices about which supplement best suits their needs.
Composition: Krill oil and fish oil both serve as excellent sources of omega-3 fatty acids, namely EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), which are renowned for their cardiovascular, cognitive, and anti-inflammatory benefits. However, the key disparity lies in their structural makeup. Krill oil contains these fatty acids in the form of phospholipids, whereas fish oil delivers them in the triglyceride form. This structural distinction influences factors such as absorption rates and bioavailability within the body.
Tumblr media
Absorption and Bioavailability: The phospholipid structure of krill oil facilitates better absorption compared to the triglyceride form found in fish oil. Studies suggest that the phospholipids in krill oil may enhance the uptake of EPA and DHA into cells, thereby potentially maximizing their therapeutic effects. Additionally, krill oil contains astaxanthin, a potent antioxidant with anti-inflammatory properties, which may further augment its bioavailability and overall health benefits.
Sustainability and Environmental Impact: One crucial consideration when comparing krill oil and fish oil is their ecological footprint. Krill, tiny crustaceans found in the Antarctic Ocean, serve as a primary food source for various marine organisms, including whales, seals, and penguins. Harvesting krill for oil extraction raises concerns about its impact on marine ecosystems and biodiversity. Conversely, fish oil production often involves species such as anchovies, sardines, and mackerel, which are more abundant and less susceptible to overexploitation. Therefore, conscientious consumers may opt for fish oil sourced from sustainably managed fisheries to mitigate environmental concerns.
Potential Benefits and Applications: Both krill oil and fish oil offer an array of health benefits, ranging from cardiovascular support to cognitive enhancement. However, certain nuances differentiate their potential applications. Krill oil's superior bioavailability may make it particularly advantageous for individuals seeking targeted support for conditions such as arthritis or dyslipidemia. On the other hand, fish oil's affordability and widespread availability make it a practical choice for individuals aiming to maintain overall health and well-being without breaking the bank.
Conclusion: In the ongoing debate between krill oil and fish oil, understanding their distinctions is paramount for informed decision-making. While both supplements offer valuable omega-3 fatty acids, factors such as absorption, sustainability, and specific health goals should guide the choice between the two. Ultimately, whether opting for the phospholipid-rich krill oil or the traditional fish oil, incorporating omega-3 supplementation into one's regimen can pave the way for improved health and vitality.
