In this case, my whole life feels like it's running parallel to my past, except this time, I'm better equipped and I have better understanding of why things became what they are. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In the pursuit of my true self and giving myself unconditional love, I've had to do a lot of remembering, asking, mourning. The religious environment I grew up in definitely promoted a very different concept to salvation to me. I used believe that there was nothing good in ancient Africa, or that the history of black people pre-colonization was full of barbarism and paganism. One goal i have is to quit renting. I've thought about many aspects of myself, including my need for space, for stability, but adventure as well. I've thought of what it would imply if my doubts about me neurodiverse become facts and the work I'll need to do in order to accomplish #vanlife. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I've felt unsafe in every single place I've lived and rented in. I've lived too many awful experiences and I'd like to be able to control my environment to a certain degree. Hello everyone,

My name is Fofo and I am an artist of Haitian origin flourishing in Montreal. I had the idea for what is now Kreyol Pale (Pyrography) at the end of 2018 and in 2019 I started working on it. The inspiration comes to me from Haitian culture, but particularly from our oral tradition which is really the aspect that has been the most enriching for me and the one to which I had the most access while growing up.

Kreyol Pale connects my love of textures, wood, paint and words perfectly. I had the privilege of having a mother who spoke to us in Creole more than in French and I drew strength from understanding several proverbs that she often repeated when I faced my own trials of adult life.

With Kreyol Pale I can share the proverbs that have personally impacted me and discover new ones with you.

Bonjour tout le monde,

Mon nom est Fofo et je suis un.e artiste d’origine haïtienne qui a fleuri à Montréal. J’ai eu l'idée que ce qui est maintenant Kreyol Pale (Pyrogravure) fin 2018 et en 2019 je me suis lancé.e. L’inspiration me vient de la culture haïtienne, mais particulièrement de notre tradition orale qui est vraiment l’aspect qui à été pour moi le plus enrichissant et celui auquel j’avais le plus accès en grandissant.

Kreyol Pale vient connecter mon amour des textures, du bois, de la peinture et des mots parfaitement. J’ai eu le privilège d’avoir une mère qui nous parlait plus en créole qu’en français et j’ai puiser de la force en comprenant plusieurs proverbes qu’elle répétait souvent lorsque j’ai fait face à mes épreuves de vie d’adulte.

Avec Kreyol Pale je peux partager les proverbes qui m’ont personnellement impacté et en découvrir de nouveaux avec vous.
