Lost enough to be found

Kim wakes choking on his own breath. Awareness rushes in way too quickly and all at once as he‘s gasping for air. He‘s had a nightmare. His shirt is sticking to the small of his back uncomfortably with cold sweat. The smell of the sheets he‘s lying on is familiar, but not comforting. He‘s on the bed in his old rooms at the main house, which is just as far as he had made it after fulfilling his father‘s most recent assignment, heavy with exhaustion, despair and guilt.

His hands still feel tacky, even though most of the blood is probably gone. He’d made sure to smear some of it on the expensive sofa in his father’s office when he was leaving, before retreating to his old rooms and messily wiping his hands on a towel and collapsing into bed.
