Gwangjang Market is a historic and vibrant traditional market in Seoul, South Korea, known for its extensive food offerings. The market is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Seoul due to its lively atmosphere and cultural significance.
The name Gwangjang means "to gather from afar and keep altogether." The market began as a small trading center that brought in goods from nearby regions, but has now grown into a large wholesale market selling a variety of goods, including upholstery, imported goods, groceries, dried fish, traditional goods, and more.
The food street caters to a wide range of patrons due to the plethora of menus available. It’s one of the ultimate places to experience traditional Korean street food and culture all under one delicious roof. (If you've seen Netflix' Street Food, there's a glimpse of Gwanjang Market there)
Established in 1905, Gwangjang Market is known to be the oldest continually functioning market in all of South Korea. It’s one of those places that has not only withstood the test of time, but it’s passed through many generations, and I would imagine that it looks virtually the same as it did fifty years ago.
There's a lot of food to choose from: Kalguksu (dumpling noodles), Sannakji (live octopus), Yukhoe (beef sashimi), Gimbap, Tteokbokki (rice rolls), Kkwabaegi (twisted donut), Bindaetteok (Mung Bean Pancake), Sikhye (sweet rice drink), Soondae (blood sausage), and a lot more.
Gwangjang Market is an overwhelming place of gastronomic beauty, there are mounds of food and hungry people eating in every direction. Eventually everything will look so good, and you’ll be faced with the paradox of choice (there are just too many good things to choose from), and so you’ll just have to sit down at the nearest stall and start eating.
From the abundance of traditional Korean street foods to sample, to the action and energy of all the people that scurry through the narrow food packed lanes, it’s a truly fantastic place to discover in Seoul.
Arguably Seoul’s most famous neighborhood and undoubtedly one of its most popular, Myeongdong takes shopping and eating to new heights, with hundreds of shops, restaurants, and cafes all stacked on top of one another. The rise in popularity of Korean cosmetics, fashion, and more has made this area a must-see for visitors who come and marvel at Myeongdong’s often frenetic pace and energy.
If the weather is brisk or rainy, head down to the Myeong-dong Underground Shopping Center (Myeong-dong ukay, as we call it hehe) that connects the Myeong-dong neighborhood to City Hall. Like the shops on the street above, this below-ground shopping network boasts similar shops, stores, and stalls that sell a plethora of items like cosmetics, luggage, clothing, books, souvenirs, and more. Best of all–shopping experts report that the Underground Shopping Center features prices that are slightly cheaper than the above-ground options. If you’re shopping for Kpop items, you’ll find lots of options at this shopping center.

Is that person still in trigun fandom? Someone else was talking recently about a person like this who seems to have retained quite a following as the intervening years covered up their actions. Shadow passing underneath my boat etc and also not wanting to follow harassers.
No idea. The last I was in contact with this person, they didn't seem to be interested in Trigun anymore and had fully moved on to Kpop / South Korean musical artists. (Definitely not to be confused with a current and longtime friend of mine who is into the same stuff and K-dramas who is also still a Trigun fan). Also, are you sure people aren't talking about me there, kiddo? I was a right asshole for a long, long time. And then I got help, including meds. (Sings the "I'm in therapy" song). My hangups are that I used to be very religious and anti-yaoi because of that. I'm not any longer (I still have personal spiritual beliefs, but I'm divorced from Church) and splutted my then-undiagnosed/ untreated bipolar disorder all over the place. I'm better now. I have stuff I favor or am not much into shipwise, as do we all, but I'm pretty chill with everything (and have reblogged Vashwood stuff on here. Simply avoid Plantcest wholesale, no need to bother anybody about it). To tell the difference between us might be in genders. I'm a cis-gendered woman. My ex-friend / frienemy, last I knew them, was a transgender man. I use "they" a lot because of how "in-flux" they were, seemed to have a lot of issues figuring out their identity for a while, going from straight-cis to lesbian-cis to male to outright misogynist male. (when still friends with me, they told me that I "couldn't be a woman because I was too smart"). After parting ways, I do not know where they settled, whom they figured themselves out to be. I wouldn't worry about "following harassers." If it's in the past, it is in the past. I haven't known them in about 20 years. I do not know the person my ex-friend/enemy is today, as they do not know the person I've become. They may have calmed, gotten their act together, gotten therapy, whatever they've needed. Maybe they are a wonderful, charming person and a great fan now. If so, you should give them a chance. Only turn up your nose and block someone if they are actively harassing you, your friends or have a vibe you find sus.

Most of the cast is Korean not just min ho. Dae, Yuri, professor Lee, the school principal. Also the white girl was suppose to represent that cringe koreaboo that most Americans into kpop probably do. Other than that, I’m sure the series didn’t mean to make anyone upset. Of course it’s not going to have an accurate representation of Korean culture even though it was shot in korea and had Korean crew members, it’s still American tv show
I would really be all for it because it'd be great to have a main character like that who can maybe inspire self awareness in the audience. However the show itself kind of shoots itself in the foot if that was the message because for example it did praise Kitty for making a pun on "chingu (friend)" and "chuseok (a very old and culturally important korean holiday)", saying that she "started a new trend". Personally even without everything else, I find that incredibly disrespectful. I pay respect to my dead ancestors during that holiday. What the hell? I don't want some American girl making a crappy pun that a six year old would make and then have everyone praise her for it.
Besides, it claims to portray Korean culture and my problem is even as an American show a lot of people seem to be just eating it up wholesale. If it's representing Korean culture to a wide audience, it should at least somewhat be accurate. At least enough to not be outright horrible. Again, I'll compare this to the Netflix casting of Cleopatra: is anyone saying "well it's not an Egyptian made film so of course it won't be accurate?"
Accuracy and respect to cultures that you depict are different and in my opinion this show lacks both. I'm thankful that there are more Korean actors than I thought in the first place but frankly and personally I find XO, Kitty insulting at worst and impossibly painful to watch at best.

hi hi hi today's reminder is I'm sleepy and it was my mom's birthday and my family all went out for dinner and i had gnocchi and now I'm going to sleep and i probably won't have much to do tomorrow because everyone I work with is taking tomorrow off for some reason
Hiii, that sounds like you had a nice time and had a yummy meal. That just means more free time for you and you can just dilly dally. And I hope you have a good night's sleep. Oh I've had two dreams recently both kpop related which has been rare lately. One I was at a BJs that's like a big wholesale store where can buy things in big bulk quantities. I loved it as a kid cause me and my sister got a VHS tape each every time we went. I also remember seeing spice girl and Rosie O' Donnel barbies there. And I aged myself greatly with all of that. Anyway nct was having this relay in the bjs and I remember taeyong and yuta running around me. Then I heard popping sounds out side and Immediately went into a room my boyfriend was in and I hugged him and he hugged me tighter and I was trying to force myself awake but he was holding me so tight I couldn't then I heard "it's just Jackson with his fireworks" outside the door. But I ended up waking up in a different bedroom with my boyfriend and he was still hugging me tight.
Last night I was representing Chan and Lee know in court but the court was in my room it was just a long table and judge and one bailiff. I was prepping them and going over what to say then they started sweating so I gave them some wipes and a lotion that rm from bts created but it was a tanning lotion so they got even more sweating so they had to take a shower. While I was waiting Hyunjin had brought me some food and told me there was more if I wanted more and we were eating outside when this cat came up to me got on her hind legs and hugged my waist and hyunjin said "aw she doesn't like anyone but she really likes you" then we were just eating with the cat. Rm also created popcorn chicken that was in the bowl we were eating. He had a lot of products in my dream.

oh for you my friend i will do this thing with bells on LOL
okay so in this situation specifically, the song is Vibe by Taeyang, ft. Jimin. Taeyang (Dong Youngbae) is a member of the second generation kpop group Big Bang (BTS is a third generation group, the groups that have debuted in the last couple of years are fourth gen). Jimin is (lol) a member of BTS/Bangtan Sonyeondan, currently taking the world by storm.
no one serious is going to argue that bangtan haven't achieved an impressive amount of Biggests and Firsts in the global music industry, but there is a tendency of the group's fanbase to conflate Biggest and/or First with only. there are a couple of issues with this!
bts don't exist in a vacuum. they didn't come out of nowhere and rise without peers or competition or mentors or idols of their own. the worst part of fandom has attempted to coin 'btspop' as something separate from kpop, as though bts are not who and what they are as people and a group precisely because of the industry that forged them. you can't claim that a group has revolutionised an industry while also claiming it exists outside of it.
a lot of the focus on the Biggests and Firsts and Bests that bts have achieved are successes in the western music industry, which is uuuuh racist? it's racist. fans will wholesale dismiss the work, impact, success that bts achieved in South Korea in order to praise how important it is that they're Making It In America (the claim is worldwide but lol we know people mean America). it dismisses other kpop groups wholesale, as though the only South Korean music artist that has or will ever be significant on the world stage is bts - as though only these 7 korean men are capable of Such A Feat
it's dismissive of the work, impact, successes of every other kpop group - those that impacted bts, and those that bts has impacted. if the work of bts means something to you, then the work of artists that mean something to bts should also be important. you don't have to seek it out, but to actively dismiss that it is significant, impactful, artistic, important is to dismiss the forces that bts drew inspiration from and aspired to be and aspired to grow more than. it also dismisses the people who have likewise been inspired by bts to make their own art.
regarding big bang specifically - bts is not the bts of today without big bang. this isn't to say that bts never would ahve existed or had impact - but also, maybe? to give bangtan their due, they absolutely blasted the door off the hinges in terms of bringing kpop to the world stage and to the US stage in particular, but they're far from the first group to achieve international success. i don't know that you CAN claim a first for something like that, when so much was happening in tandem, you know? the nature of an industry is that everything is effecting everything else.
my point here is that big bang is one of the groups that proved what bang sihyuk wanted to create with kim namjoon and bts was possible. bts started out as a hiphop group concept that transitioned into a hybrid hiphop/kpop concept, and big bang is one of (certainly the most significant) the precedents for proving that this kind of concept could not only be popular, it could be sustainable, it could break boundaries, it could create art, it could make money. does bang sihyuk and big hit as a company risk it all on bts without that precedent? i mean sure maybe none of us can see alternate futures, but in the reality i'm writing in, the existence and success of big bang can't be untangled from having influence over the creation and direction of bts. big bang's work was omnipresent in the industry at the exact same time that the members of bts were entering it, and bighit was forming its sense of what it wanted its company and its kpop groups to be
regarding taeyang and jimin specifically - jimin is a taeyang stan. this man has been his personal idol since before debut. when asked who he most looked up to and respected in this industry, his answer was taeyang on multiple occasions, to the point where he responded 'you know what the answer is!' upon being asked. he's done covers of taeyang's solo songs and choreography, he's been to multiple big bang concerts, he Really Likes Him. this is like if pjm himself reached out to a fan and said hey let's make a song together. it's the kind of thing that 17 year old park jimin could have only dreamed of, and it came true.
the thing i really don't understand as someone who like, wants the people i like to get things they want LOL is why would you want to remove something like that from your fave? like if the man is your bias, aren't you excited for him? aren't you fucking delighted for this guy that you love, that he got to do something he had no reason to believe would be possible a decade ago? aren't you shitting yourself in joy that your man is successful enough and skilled enough to be collaborating with his idols?
jimin and all bts members like,,,will always be a part of kpop lol. the aforementioned peers and mentors - they're friends? they're people they respect and care about. they're people they want to work with! none of them are doing these collaborations with the hope that their fans will ignore or deride the people that they're working with. at this point the bts members have their pick of whoever they want to work with. kim namjoon pulled erykah fucking badu for his solo album. jin did a song with coldplay! collabing with a member of big bang is not a like, Career Move, it's literally a thing that jimin wanted to do. the whole Concept of these pre-enlisted releases is that it's time for each member to show their individual colour and work on projects that are close to their heart and important to them. taeyang (youngbae-hyung) is in jimin's heart lol, he must be fucking psyched, i'm happy for him.
it's also how song credits work like LOL the amount of 'vibe by jimin' or 'vibe composed by jimin' or 'vibe by jimin ft taeyang' gifs and imagesets and tweets and shit i have seen is very silly. like this is a reading comprehension thing! the song was written by taeyang and some dude called vince, and composed by 5 other people before jimin's credit is listed as a producer. that order is relevant! it doesn't mean that he didn't contribute at all to the creation of the song, obviously, or else he wouldn't be listed at all, but he certainly didn't do the bulk of the work.
this is taeyang's song! jimin features on it! he gets to sing and dance with a guy he's admired for like half of his life, i'm stoked for him. i think that's fucking rad. i think the fact that jimin is featuring on taeyang of big bang's song, specifically, is a part of the success story of bts in general and of jimin in particular. the taeyang part is really important! what an encapsulation of the success that bts has achieved over the last year! if you went back in time and told 17 year old pjm, he would shit himself. isn't that cool? isn't that the dream???
anyway thank u for providing me with the opportunity to go off the chain about this LOL sometimes we have a lot of feelings about extremely specific situations!!
Why everybody want armys to give a fuck about that man 😐 What's the issue with focusing on Jimin Jimin existence is reason enough to ignore most of the world population
do you want a serious answer to this question, or one that you can get mad and/or dismissive at?
because we can absolutely have a conversation about this, i'll cheerfully talk for several hundred words on why, as a fan of pjm and bangtan, i find army's bts-exceptionalism to be tiresome and unsupportive of the members or group itself
but not if your only interest is in telling me to go die hag, u know?

my good bitch you can't say that everything in america is stolen culture when 1) many of the cultures here never fucking asked to be here in the first place, 2) many of the others brought their cultures when they came over voluntarily, and 3) every culture influences every other culture and if you wanna talk about wholesale lifting of culture from one group to another, look at kpop yoinking everything under the sun from hip-hop and rap. and frankly, you can't hate america more than americans do.

The idea that we should consider the morality of the artist in all aspects (no matter how big or small the supposed transgression) has been growing aggressively, and it worries me.
I agree with you that we should consider how we contribute to financial gain if the issue warrants it. For example, I don’t pay for any further work from JK Rowling because I think her transphobic comments are dangerous. That said, I do watch the movies and read the books I already own.
The idea that you have to wholesale toss out anything created by someone you (or often other people pressuring you) deem morally wrong has a few troubling implications. Art is made by people, and people will always be flawed. So If that logic is followed to its most extreme conclusion, no art should be engaged with at all. There is no higher perfect being creating these things, and we all have our issues and blind spots.
I also dislike that people try to say art made by a disgraced artist is suddenly bad. Morality does not dictate artistic ability. I find this to be an unrealistic simplification tactic. It’s harder to parse through conflicted feelings when the work itself is still good and artistically valuable, but the artist has done horrible things.
This pressure to not be taken a certain way or accused of being morally wrong affects people who are currently creating, and I think it’s leading to blander, more sanitized art. Which is sad.
Anon 2
''how do you think army would react if any of the boys ever got caught up in a scandal like burning sun? (not to imply I think that's the case, more of a thought exercise) I'm seeing a lot of people saying that they can't believe big bang stans are still supporting senguri and that morals are more important than kpop but i would be willing to put money down that if anything similar ever came out about bts the fandom would, at least in part, stand behind them.''
Anon 3
''We really don't know the members and sometimes iam afraid of supporting them''
So, I added all these messages together because all of them touch on this main subject, which is the conflicting relationship and views we could have towards the artists we like. I definitely agree entirely with what the first anon said because art does have the ability to stand on its own and we shouldn't toss it aside, especially if it speaks to us on a personal level and also if there is artistic value to it. I have no respect for JK Rowling as well because of her transphobic comments, but the movies and the books have been part of my childhood and I still enjoy them. And when it comes to the movies, as I said in the previous ask that I answered, too many people have contributed to it, beginning with the actors, so those works do not belong only to Rowling.
But when it comes to K-Pop and idols, we have to shift the conversation a bit and we can focus on BTS here, so I can answer the other 2 anons as well. Trying to think of it in terms of separation is a bit harder in this case because many reasons why these people are liked is due to the way they expose themselves to their fans. I'm not saying we as outsiders really know them because we don't, but there is an emphasis on the public persona which comes across as very approachable. I hope I'm not misinterpreted here because I'm in no way saying they are fake, let's not reduce the entire issue to that. What I mean is that we all present ourselves in a certain way depending on situations and them as public figures even more. We don't get details about personal lives and they don't share a lot of things, but parts of their personalities are out there and that's why people like them so much. It's not just about artistry and their music. And because of that, we get tangled in this parasocial relationship which also brings out the fear that the 3rd anon has. What if something bad comes to the surface at some point and as a fan I spent so much time liking and supporting this person? Was I a fool all this time? We would feel a sense of betrayal. These are normal feelings, especially when one invests their time in this. We don't really know them and this is ok. You got to go with your instinct and make judgments based on what you are able to see. If it turns out that one of them or more are not the kind of people whom you would align morally and that's your criteria, then this is a matter of acceptance from your part and a sign to move on and stop supporting them and a sign of someone being disingenuous and that's on them. Also, we should remember that people change and evolve throughout their lives, influenced by a number of reasons that stay in the personal lane and we are not privy to that part.
And to address the possible reaction to a similar scandal like The Burning Sun, I think there will be various reactions. Fans who will defend the person from the beginning, without waiting for more information, fans who will try to understand the situation before reaching a conclusion. Then you also have those who will still support the person no matter what and those who will not. This is all a question of morals here and everyone has their own compass. You can stop supporting and liking a guy if he did something bad and still like his voice or some of his songs. But it will be harder to separate his work as an artist from him as an individual because of the reasons I stated above.

Fungus shawl looks so cool!!!!! I adore the yarn you’re using too!
Also i saw in your bio that youre into kpop things (for your agonies, which… same). Are there any groups or songs you wanna plug 👀 do you wanna do any art stuff for that? Ive been really surprised and happy seeing all the cool stuff fans make since getting the brainrot myself 🤒
i love fungus shawl, i'm glad i'm not alone in it! 😌
oh boy kpop things okay, so my friend casey managed to pull me into bts last year after i've been matrix dodging them for years (for dumb reasons), which had gotten me through 2021 wholesale. i actually did some bts fanart! they can be found right here in a neat lil tag collection. I'm especially fond of the chicken stickers :D
otherwise this month I've been listening to a lot of stray kids, special thanks to the song side effects that's working overtime to pull me through redrafting half my thesis :') (YES MY HEAD ALSO HURTS) also very fond of dreamcatcher and (g)-idle and mamamoo who frequent the upbeat writing playlist when I'm in the right mood for it.
aren't kpop fanworks awesome? I love song-themed illustrations especially, this person on twitter makes some of my favourites :)
#asks#answers#people read bios on tumblr????#okay no stupid question of course they do#hang in there anon#🤝agony power
