Digmon Adventure + 02 + tri. + Kizuna; + "Adventure:" 2020 reboot Spin-off Series vs Sonic Prime {Eps. 01~08} + (Two Personal) Favorite Characters featuring Characters: ~ KOUSHIRO[u] Izumi (+Taichi Yagami) {as Ship [by Kizuna or post-Kizuna]} vs. ~ (+Tails) "NINE" the Fox (+Sonic) {as Friendship} + (Common) Media Trope{s} / Storytelling Parallels -The Computer Genius; (+special "Interests") -The Once-Loner / (Initially) Intentionally Avoids People; (Koushiro specifically also pre-series & in Novels backstory); -(Eventual growing Interest or relevancy with) "Fashion"; -"Samefooding"; (with preferred Drinks) + on the Job (in Koushiro's case, it's the Oolong tea specifically) -Expert Hackers + (Genuinely Good/recognized) Skills; -Frustration when Inadequate (at said Interests); - Quipping back at Lead Protagonist or Team in Tense Moments {whether Sarcastically or J.P.N "Formally" Style (Koushiro)}; [and displaying 'sudden' bouts of "Forwardness" with Team] ...
-The (Canonically Appointed) Advisor-slash-Strategist (who often comes up with genuinely creative plans) {even IF they take time to Work} - (Being asked Directly) to Support the Protagonist/Friend + HESITATING due to own fear of Inadequacy (at Such) - Racing Against The Clocks / Countdowns; (after Agreeing to Help / On a personal Mission to Achieve) - "Big Damn Hero" Moments!! (+Saving the Hero{s}/Friends)
My Commentary:
"Tails" (Nine specifically also, here) is a character I've loved basically since I was old enough to pick up a Sega controller as a 3-year-old child; and Koushiro came slightly later on when I was still young but closer to / basically exactly Koushiro's J.P.N canon age as I watched.
I've always noted these similarities in their storylines & even, one could say, "personalities" ever since I kept up with Digimon Adventure's series specifically (and Koushiro's also kept evolving and growing in various ways across multiple medias, including a 2020 "reboot" spin-off series that nonetheless still uses the original "Koushiro Izumi" as a base); however, "Nine"'s story dropping today (it's 2k22?!) really feels like it's driving the point home for me when it comes to these storytelling parallels.
(Oh, and Koushiro is also canonically Adopted, yes?)
{This 'comparison's gif-set was made on a whim mainly for my Koushiro specific head-canons series; but I won't mind if cross-fan-base fans enjoy this too!} [There's a very specific "head"-canon I have in mind for both, too... you might be able to note them in the tags of this post!]

Whenever I see people who hate Digimon try to roast the series, saying, "It's for kids, and it's not like other anime that talk about serious stuff," I'm always so baffled. Did you people forget when Digimon Adventure talked about the severity of Yamato and Takeru's parents' divorce and how that impacted them?
Or the complicated relationship Sora had with her mother through Adventure? The minor implications of Our War Game when Taichi and Hikari were small children, and their dad came home drunk?
How about coming from a family that expects you to have your career figured out like Joe and not really considering his feelings when he talked about how it felt like to be the oldest of the chosen children.
Koushiro's backstory is that his parents had to tell him that he was adopted and that there was a car accident that killed his biological parents and his adoptive parent's child???
Heck, even in Digimon Adventure 02, Ken's survival guilt over his older brother's passing is pretty serious, and it goes against the whole "Digimon is just for kids" argument.
It's cool if you don't enjoy Digimon, but to act like the series itself doesn't touch on serious issues that can relate to not just kids but adults today is wild.

There's a universe where Zoro is Kuina's tragic backstory, her inspiration, her vow.
There's an universe where Zoro died while training and Kuina was told "why did it have to be him and not you?". Koushiro lost hope in training the best swordman in the world, 'cause Zoro was dead and Kuina was a girl. Kuina lost the only person who believed in her, who treated her with respect and saw her for who she truly was.
Kuina probably taught herself the three-sword style to honor Zoro. She kept training even more, focusing solely on her promise she made, ignoring everyone else. How old was she when she decided to abandon her town? How old was she when she became a bounty hunter to pay for food and a place to stay the night? Was Koushiro indifferent to her? Did the town reject her too? Did at least one of the dojo kids support her?
I think it's a very compelling narrative for Kuina to go from "I can be the best because he said so" to "I can be the best because I know I can do it and I promised my best friend that I would".
There's also the fact that Luffy would remind her of Zoro. I can see Kuina supporting Luffy's dream the way Zoro taught her and because she doesn't want to see someone else being told they have no chance or being made fun of. Kuina would adore the crew and be very protective. She'd taunt Sanji to no end to force him to fight her, she can come to terms with being a girl with the help of Nami and the other straw hats girls. Most definitely she would be as strong as Zoro in the canon, with the same unbreakable determination and fierceness.
Idk, something about the fact that if their roles in the story were reversed, Kuina would do the same for Zoro as he does for her.

This is very incomplete so bear with me…
I’m thinking at least some of the character flashbacks to off the Island would be their canonical Digimon backstories, except that none of them know each other (other than the siblings). Everyone is da02tb age because I am sick to death of isekai about teenagers
Yamato would start out as a Michael character searching for his estranged brother who was in the tail section and captured by the Others (02 kids).
I do think the person who would get caught up in the lore of the Island would be Koushiro. I want to see him question everything the Island does. I want to see him rip the Island apart at the seams
Before anyone asks (no one is asking or ever will ask but I’m saying it anyway) Sora is not going to be put in a love triangle like Kate or canon Sora. That’s my final word on that.
Sora cut ties with her family a few months before getting on the plane. Her mom is searching for her and Sora knows it. I think a story where she learns to accept her interests and what she wants to do as an adult would be really interesting for her to discover on the Island
I lied so bad in my earlier post. Jou Kido has the misfortune of being Jack Shephard. As much as Lost focuses on Jack Shephard, this AU would focus on Jou Kido. I actually kind of want Jou to have the same backstory as Jack. Doctor father who never thinks Jou is good enough. Jou is a doctor himself seeking approval. Has a bit of a savior complex
Still trying to figure out how to make Ken a villain. It would be really cool to see him as a “lies and manipulation” kind of villain like Ben Linus
Mimi is so unique to Digimon, man. Like I said, this isn’t going to be a 1:1 AU, so I’m gonna think a little more on her
That being said, Daisuke is Hurley in this universe. He’s also an Other, for plot reasons
Lui and Ukkomon are the forces that bring people to the Island
More to come

Episodes 5 & 6 of OPLA! I think that anyone who comes to the manga or anime after watching OPLA might be disappointed. I mean, it's kinda genius for Arlong to have Buggy's head, and then for Luffy to steal Buggy's head when the Arlong Pirates attack the Baratie, but, like, none of it happened in canon. The one piece wiki is gonna need a separate wiki for OPLA, I guess.
I liked, nay loved, that they kept the fact that Zeff ate his leg in OPLA, to save Sanji. Love that Sanji is foul-mouthed from the beginning and that the love-hate relationship is there from the beginning. The oregano thing is fun, but, really, Sanji? I doubt a chef or cook anywhere would hold that opinion, so I want Sanji's backstory on it. Maybe it was Judge's favourite spice!
The Sanji and Zeff story packed a lot more weight than Kuina and Zoro, although it shouldn't have. Maybe it's just that adult actors have a much better handle on their craft than child actors (although child Sanji, and child Kuina were pretty good,
but child Zoro was a bit lacking). Or they should have maybe started Zoro's story a little bit earlier, with him being a child and coming across Koushiro Shimotsuki's dojo.
When the fishmen appeared at the Baratie, and when Nami didn't secure passage with the guy she'd organised to go away with, I thought they were going to water down her story somewhat. But the way they did it still smacked of betrayal for those who don't know her story, and it was a nice touch to have her read the North Blue stories to Zoro. Nice way to plant future arcs and chances to expand. Also good to also seed viewer sympathy when she kinda explains her actions to the supposedly unconscious Zoro.
Luffy seems a little too self-aware, maybe, but it was the first season without guarantee of season two, so I guess the Zoro and Luffy bond needs to be laid on a bit thick at this point. I kinda remember from the manga that Zoro was badly hurt, of course, but I can't remember the angst. I'm sure parts of it are there. It'll be interesting to see how that kinda thing contrasts with Ace's death in the future (if the series gets that far), cos' that's when Luffy canonically and importantly really goes deep.
Mihawk was camp and wonderful as fuck. Those golden eyes pretty freaky, but definitely hawk-like. Really leaning into that whole thing. Our boy's pretty pasty, but that's fine. I also would've liked to have seen Zeff fight a bit more. He did a good job of that in the manga, as I recall, and I understand missing out on the Luffy and Zeff conversation about Sanji, but I liked that in canon too.
Also, I'm glad that Gin appeared, considering Mihawk took out Don Krieg off screen-ish. Series shoring up against possible future inclusion, although we're still waiting. Very cool to have Zeff help Zoro too, and the way it was done with the fish skin (and that Sanji cooked that yellowtail soon after, I think!).
I think Zoro was shown plastered in bandages, right, and that was the extent of his recovery process in the manga? Again, could be wrong. He was in pain, and took on more, up to Thriller Bark and Sabaody.
Also, practically, I understand why Sanji needs to strip in a live action to save Luffy in the water, and I'm not complaining, but just a difference. I did like Taz Skylar! (I love all of the actors). Love Usopp's stories, that he has his slingshot with him, but is also cowardly (at the start) as in keeping with his canon character. It's funny that Luffy seems to understand that they're stories, but it's true, I think he only believes some of Usopp's stories in canon (like Sogeking)
I'm wondering if Jinbei will sound like Arlong if we get that far. It was probably very pointed, but the Arlong exchange with the fishman waiter carried a punch.
RIP Johnny and Yosaku! The live action is doing a good job of condensing the arc. They really would've had to have done their homework.

Fandom Shipping Polls - Daisuke Motomiya Shipping Analysis (Poll I + Poll II)
As pointed out in the main post, every single Chosen Child will get their individual analysis post to check on the status of the current popularity of their ships. With that out of the way, let’s take a look at Daisuke, shall we!
The overall results / spreadsheet
Disclaimer: As the “Someone from 01/02″ and “Others” options from poll 1 and the “Someone from 01/02″ option from poll 2 have been excluded from the final analysis due to redundancy reasons and all results were culminated in another “final count”, the results will not be 1:1 to what the polls look like:
Tumblr media
Overall votes: 132 (approx. 110 in sum after the exclusion), the main poll got 93 votes, the secondary poll got 39 votes.
The “Others” choice in the main poll received 3% (approx. 3 votes) and 0% (0 votes) in the secondary poll. The comments/tags did not specify any preferences here (aside from characters that were already part of the main choices).
Ship Analysis
1st place: It should come to nobody’s surprise that Ken (52%) singlehandedly swept this poll without facing any kind of serious competition at any time of the voting. Daiken is one of the most popular mlm Digimon ships on the planet - and for good reasons, as their anime portrayal provides for some very intense and intriguing mutual character development. Not only do they start off as “enemies” (with one of the parties unknowingly holding lots of the admiration for the other), but them turning into friends - and Jogress partners - is one of the most significant development fuels for both of them; nurturing each other’s (self) confidence while growing closer, developing great fondness, attachment and protectiveness for each other as they get more and more comfortable with themselves and in the other’s presence. It’s an endearing framing with a lot of heart, and with the additional anticipation of more news on the 02 movie, it’s really no surprise to see them being as prevalent and beloved in fandom as they are at the moment.
2nd place: With a huge gap to 1st place, Takeru (11%) takes his seat on 2nd place. As mentioned in Takeru’s own analysis, this makes a lot of sense; their popularity here may be explained by the idea that Daisuke is supposed to be a foil to Takeru in a similar way Taichi is to Yamato - even though their dynamic as so called “rivals” does not play out in the same way at all. Despite the occasional bickering, it’s portrayed to be more lighthearted, especially on Takeru’s behalf, who likes to tease Daisuke, making for a mutually challenging, yet very playful  - and most importantly: more soft - dynamic.
3rd place: Daisuke is the second character after Mimi who had SEVERAL people competing for third place, resulting in a three-way-tie between Miyako, Hikari and Wallace, with each of them snatching 8% of the votes. And again, taking a very close look at canon, all of these choices make sense; Miyako proves to be companion Daisukes has a teasing and competitive, yet supportive and familiar relationship with; Hikari is portrayed as someone Daisuke heavily crushes on at first and tries to compete with Takeru to get her attention and affection over, but once that quietly mellows out, they prove to have a soft, mutually trusting bond; last but not least, Wallace is a movie-only character with a flirty, teasing attitude towards Daisuke while also making him want to fight for his sake and sad backstory.
Honorary mentions: As the majority of votes has been distributed among the choices mentioned above, there isn’t much left to be mentioned - yet characters that got more than 1 vote include Taichi (3%), Koushiro (3%), Sora (2%) and Michael (2%).
“The 1 vote squad”: This spot is reserved for Iori, Yamato, Mimi and Jou (1% each).
“0 votes go to…”: Interestingly, Daisuke is the only character in whose poll EVER SINGLE main character received at least one vote.
Annotations: N/A
What did the other polls say?
Daisuke won Ken’s poll (61%) with one of the biggest margins and also came in second Takeru’s poll (18%), thus mirroring his own results to a high degree.
However, he doesn’t appear in the top 3 rankings for the other characters and actually has a tendency to come in fourth a lot, namely in Hikari’s (9%), Miyako’s (15%), Iori’s (9%), Taichi’s (10%) and Yamato’s (7%) polls.
Thus, for the majority of the rest, he was merely a niche choice, such as Sora (3%), Koushiro (2%) and Jou (1%).
Mimi is the only character in whose poll he did not get a single vote - she herself had received 1 vote in his though.
Notable additions / comments / thoughts
Daisuke’s polls stand out for the fact that he received the fourth most votes overall (after Taichi, Ken and Takeru) - which is quite ironic if you consider that he also appears to be the KING of getting fourth place, thus missing the podium for third place 5 times overall.
These facts aside, he is, as mentioned, the only character whose polls had every of the other 11 Chosen Children get represented by at least 1 vote. It shall not be overlooked that the sample size is still comparably low of course. Thus, I really hope to reach a wider audience if I choose to repeat the polls once the fandom is not as quiet as it is right now. However, the idea that Daisuke has enough followers that every possible combination had at least 1 fan is very interesting.
Seeing Daiken sweep the entire voting overall is really no surprise, as they appear to have a very passionate group of followers, artists and writers alike, not only on tumblr, but on various internet spaces - regardless of country, even after all this time. This may or may not be assigned to the growing anticipation of the 02 movie as well as for a general demand of more 02 related content after the Adventure 01 cast received a lot of exposure in the past years. Overall, for the reasons mentioned above (and beyond, thanks to their portrayal), Daiken has always been going strong, despite never having been canonized.
The comments in the tags have only referred to the already mentioned choices. The “Others” option did not receive any further votes in the second poll, indicating that all the most viable choices have been covered by poll 1 and 2. Usually, the option is reserved for OC ships, for when people prefer to not ship a character at all or when they’re considered asexual (which will definitely be a future option to include as well!).

Why Kuina’s Death Still Unsettles Us?
TW: mention of suicide, references teen/child suicide.
[I read a post about "falling down the stairs" might actually imply death by suicide. Kuina's death always bothered me a bit, and when Shimotsuki Koushiro said to Zoro, humans are fragile, did he really mean our bodies or our hearts? I still wonder. A few months back I had written a fic, a retelling of the events which led to Kuina's fall from the stairs, and I had done a lot of thinking while writing the fic. So all those ideas and thoughts I had then, have been rearranged and put here today.]
Tumblr media
I remember watching the Kuina episode like 19 years back. So for an 11-year-old me, that was it. I was sad that she was gone too soon.
But over the years as I grew up, read the manga and then kept rereading it over and over. I did feel her death was surprisingly given the off-stage treatment that was given to Lady Macbeth! Only an announcement was made of her death, and her face is covered in a piece of cloth! That was too sudden, unlike so many other deaths that followed in the story.
I did brainstorm this over the years, it really felt odd, she was a physically strong 12-year-old girl and as far as I know swordswoman/man have to be good at balancing and footwork, because the art of the sword is about full body movement so her falling down is really really really iffy.
Image from chapter 5
Tumblr media
And if we look at the Dojo architecture, there were no visible storeys to the building, I am sure she didn’t fall off a library step-stool or carpenter’s ladder. Then I found this Tumblr post, by Heeheemugee which said, falling down the stairs is a euphemism for suicide. Which makes sense! Like it totally connects in my head.
Though, sadly, I didn’t find any source to confirm this, as everyone on the internet told me it's untrue. But, you see, “falling down the stairs” is a euphemism which has been used for domestic violence victims, like in my mother tongue, when it's hard to explain to a child what happened to someone who died, we say the person has gone somewhere far, so may be falling down the stairs is more of an undocumented euphemism or an old reference Odachii picked from somewhere— he is known for this!
Image from chapter 5
Tumblr media
Another thing we should remember Kuina was onset of puberty, the stress of future, her father’s general view of female body being weaker, and changing bodily features might have plagued her more than we think— since after 1000 chapters we know Zoro’s teacher is likely from Wano, I think internalized and cultural misogyny was at play too.
Teenage and puberty is a vulnerable time, one misstep can lead to drastic actions, so Kuina taking her own life is not farfetched. Because we have young children who are so stressed or vulnerable or suffering that they think ending it is better than enduring it.
Image from chapter 5
Tumblr media
What has bothered me the most, is the offstage treatment of her death. I mean—we have seen most of the “characters whose death impacted the main characters' life decisions” die on stage in backstories so far, or we got a proper explanation of why someone is dead. We know Banchina died after an illness, Bellemere was killed by Arlong, Hililuk was poisoned and blew himself up. Only Kuina’s death we didn’t see, and it immediately happened just after both Zoro and Kuina had a heartfelt conversation about becoming the best swordsman/woman in the world!
I guess Oda chose “fell down the stairs” as the series was like 15 chapters till then. Or it maybe as simple as Odachii wanted to wrap Zoro’s backstory fast with typical “dead girl-friend of the grumpy emotionally suppressed lone wolf” to establish Zoro’s narrative as the one who carries the will of others!
Image from chapter 5
Tumblr media
Otherwise, we know Eiichiro Oda doesn’t shy away from depicting gruesome, terrifying or horrible deaths which parallels real life issues, he sneaked in a little panel of a grandmother praying and a mother holding a knife with an infant in her arms in Wano arc, because they were starving for days!
Image from chapter 918
Tumblr media
Or a pirate in human auction house biting his tongue to escape the humiliation of being sold as a slave!
Tumblr media
Images from chapter 502
Tumblr media
Hence, I think Kuina’s death doesn’t seem like an accident and feel like something sadder and heavier than we were led to believe.

Digimon Adventure 02 (manhua) - Vol. 1
Eurgh...I think this one is even worse than the first series. However, it is mercifully short (2 volumes), so at least it will be over quick. I think copies of this manhua in English are kind of a rare commodity so I'm just reading scans.
Ch. 1
-Back at it with the rushed adaptations as illustrated by Yuen Wong Yu. So far, the art in this is looking pretty good, but the writing is a mess, just like the previous series.
-This was a super condensed intro to 02. Veemon, Hawkmon, and Armadimon are all introduced simultaneously and the 01 kids don't even attempt to hide the Digiworld from the 02 kids. It bugged me that when Daisuke got his digivice he was like "so this means...!" How does he know what anything means?? He just got sucked into a computer with zero context.
-Charmingly lame translation. Daisuke says stuff like "mad skillz" and "dag yo." Honestly, he would. Sooo funny how they kinda-sorta incorporated the Japanese names. "I'm Daisuke, but my friends call me Davis." That's like saying "I'm Maxine, but my friends call me Meredith!" Just...a completely different name lol. (Then again, I guess East Asian people do choose "American" names, so maybe it's not so crazy).
Ch. 2
-I really wonder about the production of this manhua. 01 was 5 volumes, but for 02 we only get 2. The writer/artist must have known from the start that they would only get 2 volumes because of how blisteringly fast the pace is. Was this based on bad sales for the first manhua? Or maybe the fact that the second season of the anime wasn't as popular?
-This chapter starts with Koushiro saying "I found out why digivolution isn't working," but we never had a scene showing digivolution not working lol. We also see all of the armor digivolutions in this chapter...without any chapters of those getting introduced. So yeah, this is another adaptation that assumes you've seen the show so they skip all the exposition that would be helpful to a newcomer.
-Daisuke said "wiggedy wack"
youtube
Ch. 3
-Lol at Koushiro calling the 02 gang "kids" when he's like 2 years older than them. Middle schoolers do be like that tho...
-They just threw all the new digimon armor evolutions together in a way that I thought didn't really make sense. They find the digimentals and can't lift them up, but then later in the same chapter the digimentals just fly over to the kids and work? Why couldn't they pick them up the first time? Were the vibes off or something?
-I was sad to see they cut out the part where they make fun of Ken for calling himself the Digimon Emperor/Kaiser. I did enjoy Iori's "how does he do that with his hair?" bit tho lol
Ch. 4
-Wow, this one was laughably bad. Somehow we're already on Ken's redemption arc. The instant after Wormmon's sacrifice Taichi appears literally out of nowhere (he wasn't in the previous scenes at ALL) to be like "guys it's okay, Ken's brother died." WTF? How did he know that and where did he come from?? Clunkiest exposition ever. They could have at least thrown in a separate "Ken backstory" chapter to make this go down a lot smoother.
-Daisuke literally says "Dag. This thing got the bling bling" when he finds the miracle digimental loool. Why.
Ch. 5
-In horrible 90s/2000s slang news, in this chapter Daisuke calls Veemon "boo," randomly shouts "Extreme!" and says "that's straight." (I don't even remember that last one being a thing).
-I liked how they drew Stingmon. His face is a little more Wormmon-like than it was in the anime. I always prefer it when digivolutions bare a resemblance to their earlier forms instead of being totally random.
Ch. 6
-In this chapter, Daisuke calls Ken "homeslice." He's the only one they made talk "street" (or whatever you want to call it). The other characters are just like "Wtf?" lol. Of course, I'm sure none of this was in the original Chinese.
-Not gonna lie, going through this again is just reminding me how dull 02's story is :/ I think they kept presenting questions "who is this mysterious lady??" but then the answers we eventually got were underwhelming, so you were left feeling like "what was the point...?"
Ch. 7
-They mention the dark ocean, but it's completely without context because they didn't bother to adapt that episode lol. So much of this manga is out of context in general and would be a nightmare to read without prior knowledge.
-Weirdo dialogue when Hikari saves Miyako from falling off a cliff and says "I believe in you!" and Miyako's reaction is "wow! That was really nice, thank you!" As if Hikari was mean to her before...? Just awkward.
Onto the next! I bet it will be just as underwhelming (especially since the 2nd half of 02 isn't that great in the first place).

Final chapter trivia + Thanks
• Soleil/Youta's big sister Hino Akari is the Advverse version (and namedropped/mentioned only) of Hinomoto Akari. • Although not shown here, Miss Espimon was with Koushiro and Taichi dragging down Naito and his partner Impmon. • Despite of the profile for Iustimon mentioning he's an Armor level, the version of YPD here is an JP-Ultimate/Dub-Mega level. • The original idea for Soleil and Lune's "Crests" (Fairness & Serenity, respectively) were actually Digimentals. And they're way different from the Crests they originally were assigned in DigiTimeLines (which were Light & Energy). • Lune's Lunamon always was able to evolve to Crescemon, but since Lune was not the type to use brute force, she kept restraining her partner to evolve further. Because Lekismon has a less harmful ability -- the sleeping bubble bombs (Moon Night Bomb) • Like mentioned before, Ryo's backstory and headcanon-like ideas are based on the idea there was one Ryo once, got ejected from the timeline and kept wandering between worlds (just like Hikawa/Nokita) for almost 2-or-3 years and with no memories. He was shattered into many versions and all of them went to different timelines/worlds. The one to be depicted here is the one who went back to the OG Advverse, and had a few of his memories from the past "gathered" and "inserted" back into his head by Mastemon. • Yes, the link at the end of this unexpected surprise scene leads to who you think it is. She was in my original plans for Ryo's headcanon-story since i played Cyber Sleuth/Hacker's Memory. She's not like a big spoiler for those two games and it's mostly a cameo in them, so no worries about it. She's also only mentioned here, so it's another sort of cameo. • And Yeah, Daisuke did not witness what happened once Hikawa left his body. But he would've said exactly what Takeru guessed if he were awake. • Also it ends with room for a sequel because I definitely wanted to write a sequel with Rui involved this time, but the 02TB movie recently is out on both physical and digital (tho the latter i have no idea *where* is available for purchase or watch online) and i'd prefer to wait a bit more... • The blog of this project had already some sort of "sequel foreshadowing" in the recent art of the Space Trio as adults, with profiles and explaining where they were during 02TB movie events.
The closure might sound like a little rushed, but it's because I was running out of ideas. I wanted to do more but I got too focused on 02TB brainrot, and doodling daily Rui-kun art, plus rebuilding my Kamen Rider AU that it felt I should... End it asap. (And because i wanted to write a sequel with Rui-kun involved, he's my favorite movie character at the moment)
Hope you liked this full experiment! Now I need to find a friend who can speak French so i can write down one the omake one of my friends suggested involving Catherine Deneuve calling Noel out for his weird fake French accent! Since he's not even French?! (and because i also don't speak French too 💧)
Thank you, and See ya next time (´▽`ʃ♡ƪ)

mh yea! i definatly think the fact that they looks so similar and have the same main conflict to the point ZORO points it out is where most of that theory comes from. which I find funny because oda also makes it a point to say how DISSIMILAR they are, kuina was loud and abrasive and competitive while tashigi is more soft-spoken or atleast calm and by-the-book. their main goals are different and ZORO is the irrational one for being so hung up on their similarities and projecting onto tashigi. people make a literal connection in what's just a parallel. tho getting more of a backstory on tashigi is always a nice idea.
FR!!!! there's something about being a 1pc swordsman that gives you such A complex relationship with gender and your body and mortality and and. I wonder if it's because of how important swordsmanship' is in wano which has a more traditional view on gender in general 🤔. AND YEAAA I LOVE KIKU TOO. she's so fucking cool. I love when shes downplaying her skills on purpose and zoro is all 'ik you don't need me to save you' and she's like 'yea yknow what Ur right' and goes all out in her introduction!!! she's amazing <3
Tumblr media
[post source]
THEY CAN LITERALLY HOLD SO MUCH GENDER IN THEM.
that fics sounds incredible!!!! I'll be sure to give it a read omg. I fucking love kuina lives au's so much and ZORO being part of HIS motivation, I'm sobbing that's such A cool idea. the first person to ever really see you for who you are, to make you feel like you can do anything RAAHGDJDHDIDJ I LOVE THEM SO MUCH. AND FUCK YEA KUINA AND TASHIGI INTERACTIONS!!! their potential dynamic is so interesting to me. I wholeheartedly believe that if kuina lived SHE would be tashigi's rival and it would be so good for a couple reasons.
-the difference in gender opinions is so much more direct because it's coming from the person themselves on not their younger brother who lives out their memory
-WADO ICHIMONJI
that fics relationship between trans!kuina and tashigi reminds me a bit of the dynamic between trans!zoro and kuina in aether above. trans zoro who never got to tell kuina and then she dies and he never can 😭.
ALSO YESS MASC WOMAN KUINA. non-binary kuina also <3 every gender and gender presentation works for her in such unique and interesting ways!!!
Tumblr media
the GNC swag in this pic
I love how her design is so gnc also because it feels very symbolic of how gender doesn't (or atleast shouldn't) matter to childeren. kids are kids and are unburdened by societal gendered expectations. AND ZORO WEARING KUINA SHIRT STYLE AS AN ADULT TO SHOW HE KEEPS THAT WAY OF THINKING/IN HER MEMORY AAAAH.
OMG I felt the same way tbh. I got into 1pc mainly because of opla but reading the animanga version of kuina and Zoro's story hit so much harder. opla imo toned it down alot by having koushiro be a supportive father and the dojo being mixed gendered (which is prolly just netflix background character diversity stuff) but it kinda cheapens her situation where she is being FED this rehtoric and is being reinforced by her being the only girl at her dojo, making her insecurities feel so randomly attached. where's the puberty horror? where is the loneliness of being a girl in a ''''boys world'''', she was so alone and zoro ultimatly being the one to come to an understanding and befriend her is sososo important.
but her story in the animanga, GOD yea it hit me so hard. transmascs when a female character has the same issues as them 🤝‼️.
ZOROS BACKSTORY AND TRAUMA IS JUST AS IMPORTANT TO HIS MENTALITY AND VIEWS ON GENDER AS LIKE, SANJI'S FOR EXAMPLE. they so obviously parallel but ppl don't give HALF as much though into zoro genderism as sanji. (probably because he's more chill about it until tashigi shows up lol). but still a backstory dosnt have to be super angsty and layered with explicit suffering to be complex and important. zoro also just isnt that kind of character, every obstacle and conflict he uses to better and motivate himself, we love a mental health king <3.
the 2001th battle is cinema to me idc idc. I'm so glad we're in agreement of this vision 🤝. genuinely it's so cool that we both share so many thoughts on these characters I feel like they're so slept on sometimes besides generally referencing them. Zoro carrying on kuina will with his own. the fucking... 3 motif is so good. his dream being symbolised by three ppl (himself kuina and Luffy) YOU WILL ALWAYS BE FAMOUS TO ME.
the way he carries her sword and the beliefs that gave her hope in her last days with him to the top. crying sobbing I'm w you think about them all the damn time <333
SHADAHKNKAS saw u in the notes of some kuina posts and that made me realize that there is simply a bond with kuina and tashigi fans, who may even often be the same fan, because AOUGHHH KUINA I CARE HIM SO MUCH episode 19 literally changed me forever. swords + gender struggles are all you need to hook me on a character sometimes Maybe. the whole greatest swordsman promise... sob. also. something about zoro promising his name will reach the heavens and trans kuina. which made me think.. what if kuina and The trans fear of dying then having your deadname on your tombstone that you can't do anything about because you're dead. kuina dying before they even get to figure everything out and all of a sudden he's just known as kuina forever, and then zoro making a name for himself in kuina's honor or something idk (i like zoro's backstory) (KUINA )
THERE ISS. people who theorise that they are secretly related or the same person or direct parallels are so close to getting it but don't imo (no shade to those theories tho, I just personally find them narratively unsatisfying).
like they are parallels in that kuina is symbolic of the sexism people suffer and tashigi is an adult woman who has come out the other end sword swinging but ultimately so unsure of herself as a result. also the (trans)genderisms, we are all hand in hand 🤝.
MAN KUINAS STORY BROKE ME DOWN ON A BASE LEVEL AND REWIRED NY BRAIN. I had to take a break from reading just to let it soak in it's so good, a swordsmans promise indeed, that scene was beautiful, I love zoro the world's first a accidental feminist <3. zoro carrying on her dream with his will never not have me in hysterics.
FUCK YEA THATS SUCH A GOOD IDEA. I have soo many thoughts about baby!zoro and kuina and trangenderism. egg kuina cis zoro, egg kuina STEALTH TRANS ZORO ABSVDJFBKSHDKDN <333.
little baby zoro looking at his grave with the uncontrollable urge to carve out those letters. to carry and rearrange them and make sure they get back to him in the afterlife spelling 'worlds greatest swordsman'.
trans kuina makes me so emotional because ultimately I don't know if they were canonically trans but it's my FAVOURITE 'what if' for them. they never really got to be anyone outside the dojo masters daughter. the failure of a heir and the girl who beat zoro 2001 times. who would they have been if they got to grow up? come to terms with themselves and unlearned all that heavy, painful biases pushed onto them? as a transmasc who's studying into a (cis)male dominated field myself ik, the feelings of 'betrayal' and 'proving misogynists right' and imposter syndrome and inadequacy issues and perfectionism they might've gone through,,, sobbing my eyes out HE MEANS EVERYTHING TO MEE.
zoros backstory is genuinely one of my favourite parts of the manga idc how 'simple' it was it's still beautiful.

I’m not sure what shocked Zoro more:
to learn that Kuina’s Wado Ichimonji and Oden’s Enma were crafted by the same man and how, by some twist of fate, both swords belong to him now
or
the skilled blacksmith Shimotsuki Kozaburo is someone Zoro actually knew while living in the Shimotsuki Village. And this old man in fact was a father of Zoro’s sensei and Kuina’s granpa who also taught him the “samurai cry” apparently inappropriate for a child (or just for a young lord?). And now Zoro learns - or did he already knew that?? -  this geezer was both an awesome blacksmith and an outlaw for running away from Wano over 50 years ago.
Wano is seriously full of weird and unexpected connections between Zoro and the Shimotsuki clan (Ryuma, Yasuie, Toko, Kozaburo and Kuina & Koushiro) and though he does not mention it aloud, I think it’s not likely for Zoro to be oblivious to all of it.

{D I G I M O N} Adventure ~ Ep. 24 {Original J.P.N Version} + KOUSHIRO & MOTIMON x 0801 COUNT-DOWN
"You look like a {small} {B A B Y} 'Mon {that you Are} when you're held like that {by Koushiro}!" - Tsunomon
Digimon Partners Official Twitter, (dm_partners on Twitter) is beginning a countdown for 0801’s Adventure PV 2k24!
Today, Koushiro and "Motimon" {Mochimon} are previewed! {This art originally revealed/shown Jul. 26th, 2k24 for 080124} What is interesting about this one is the art is clearly referenced from Adventure #24, but the scene is supposed to be showing the mains meeting their partners during the events of Ep. 01.
In my personal view, this is Fitting for Koushiro regardless. Before people claim this makes Koushiro "out of character", I'd like to point out Koushiro's genuine care and concern towards Mochimon above, even when Koushiro was very likely achy and waking up from passed-out condition in Adv 24.
Koushiro is showing compassion towards Mochimon in this "new"-old scene because Koushiro is and always was caring and compassionate, even if Koushiro doesn't always show it well at first. (+This is 5 whole episodes before we even learn Koushiro's backstory about Koushiro being CANON A D O P T E D.)
Personally, my favorite interactions between them was actually also from the (if condensed) official Novel version, (also written by Hiroyuki Kakudou and Koushiro's main script-writer, Hiro Masaki, who also contributed at least 1/3rd of the amount) and even there, by the time they began walking, Koushiro was actively asking Mochimon "all sorts" of "{Q U E S T I O N S}" about the Digital World and the true nature of those living there.

I loved episode 42 of Digimon Adventure 2020! I loved it! It’s my favorite episode of the reboot! It was so well written! And Koushiro’s characterization continues to be handled with ultimate care and consistency!
He’s the best written character in this reboot in my opinion.
His bond with Gerbemon felt so endearing and genuine. It’s a rare thing to see in this franchise Koushiro bonding with someone based on his interests and sharing his passion and excitement towards science with someone who understands. I loved how Gerbemon served as a teacher figure (not sure if that’s the best way to put it) who Koushiro admired and looked up to. And Koushiro smiling with pride when Gerbemon was impressed with the digivice was so sweet! THIS EPISODE WAS THE CUTEST THING!!!
Now, about the more serious parts: when Gerbemon talked about his assistants that had died and how he kept the cups to remember and honor them, there was a focus on Koushiro’s sad expression, indicating that he understood that feeling. There was that one episode in which Mimi commented that Koushiro’s tablet was an old model, possibly hinting that it belonged to someone else and then was passed to him (after the previous owner died???). And we’ve seen many times (and in this episode) that Koushiro is very protective of that tablet. Other interesting thing is how whenever Koushiro is upset he has a habit of clutching to the tablet and hiding his face behind it, which reminds me of how a small child would hide behind their parents when afraid. This could be nothing, but it also could be evidence that his tablet is a memento from his deceased parents.
And we can’t overlook how Gerbemon was depicted as an adult. It would’ve been so easy to pair Koushiro with a child coded digimon who enjoyed science and make the episode about how Koushiro didn’t have peers who shared his interests, but they introduced an adult scientist with whom Koushiro bonds almost instantly. It could be that I’m reading too much into it, but Koushiro could be reliving an experience he had with other adults in his life, adults that might no longer be in his life. Koushiro wasn’t even trying to tone down his excitement. This might’ve been the happiest we’ve ever seen him in the reboot, and I’m not sure if it was just love for science or if there was something else behind it, like a sense of familiarity and belonging long-lost to him.
And then, there was the most important hint, the most important line regarding Koushiro’s characterization from the entire show!
“Revenge… It’s not a good thing, but there’s surely a pain there that only the one left behind can understand. For humans and Digimon…”
Koushiro understands the pain of the person who is left behind! He understands how Gerbemon feels about the loss of his assistants because Koushiro lost people who were important for him too! Sure, the show could pull a Sprig Plantar and go the route of “can you miss someone you never actually met?” but I don’t think they would’ve set up the parallel with a digimon who clearly lost other digimon he knew and cared about if it wasn’t the same case with Koushiro. This episode has showed us the strongest evidence of the theory that Koushiro remembers his biological parents and was deeply affected by their death.
I’m not going to lie, to me the theory was confirmed today.
Now, we have to know what’s Koushiro’s current family situation. Is he living with the Izumis? Is he more emotionally distant to them compared to the original Koushiro because he remembers his other parents and can’t bring himself to accept a new family? I can’t wait to find out!
This episode truly renewed my hopes for the reboot!

For a while I've been thinking of putting words why Digimon Adventure 2020 doesn't make me want to be super invested into it (but still entertained) and it all boils down to: it doesn't make me cry lmao.
I love that, I love being invested in that and characters having emotional rollercoaster everywhere and traumatic backstories or memories and then I am crying along Taichi feeling a deep rooted guilt because how almost killed his own sister, or how they see Digimon get brutally killed and instead of being scarred for life they are like "oh no...anyway off to victory!"
But I have to admit it's nonsensical fun and just a good time at points, which is what I want for every time the destined children are together (which is another issue, when they join they split, when they reunite they are drifted away, when they make it back they are drifted away again). But when it happens, there are fun moments just like every Mimi and Joe episode 🤣 (is the potatomon a reference to Joe singing "Kaze no fraido potato"? Because that's make it a 10/10)
It's frustrating maybe if the OTT plot in the real world appears and gets solved in between the main journey, are we fighting Devimon or are we helping the NASA, or both? Why is Omegamon appearing so much? When did their Crest meaning have to do with something? + the timing or moments or reason behind every new evolution may give that "eh that wasn't as satisfying". But if I look it just as the silly fun and COOL AS FUCK animations and moves, then I have fun myself! Accepting that I won't be crying just of imagining what a character may feel, and see them do stuff made it to me to enjoy it more, I like the wild digimon leveling up because survivor of the fittest type of thing, and they do show nice relationship between each other (in fact, one of the best moments are when there is no ISS crisis AND they are still together as group):
Taichi being a source of support and encouragement to Koushiro, the siblings relationship, Taichi and Sora being that 1-2 leading combo and being the reliable parents. Yamato being that cool tsun tsun but not annoying dude. Mimi is always queen in every universe. Joe using Zudomon hammer what the fuck go off king. Cute things to catch up from that.
And also, the fact that I don't have to watch the same attacking animation 17890 times through the show is so important. Imagine Digimon Adventure or Tamers with these animations, is insane. I thought the warpevolution was already cool, seeing Wargreymon appearance not the first, but the second time show an animation that was the coolest evolution animation ever in that technical stuff.
In summary, a lot of things to not care about the whole of it (so far, chapter 40 already), but taking bits individually (that you may completely forget because it's irrelevant to the big scene) is actually cool! Some I can remember off the top of my head are
Mimi chan kingdom; Joe and Gomamon speaking before Ikkakumon evolution; Yamato having a small "wow these bozos are caring about me and supporting me? Is this...FRIENDSHIP?" bc you know, his crest and all; the way MetalGreymon evolved, like, is not better than the OG of course, but I mean how he was fighting a bigger dude and for MANY times they were trying but not giving up, as in, showing their courage, made sense; Lillymon and the whole nature defeating the machinery of Andromon; Holy Digimon being special and focusing on that; Tailmon fears and struggles up to its Angewomon evolution (MarineDevimon was a good idea to put there); the one solving the ISS crisis being Koshiro not just in knowledge but in action trusted by his friends and leader Taichi; Taichi and Sora playing football together heck yeah cuties show how well you both combine for everything and be cute in front of my salad (they are making it on purpose, Taichi gets trapped and immediately the Love emblem shines to evolve to Garudamon).
Is there a Team Light and Team Hope coming apparently? That's cute. Looking forward to it.
Anyway, just wanted to write about it for so long since I have that "ok I get where this is heading and it's to not make me cry" feeling but I have different thoughts, not mostly bad or anything.
Should start making Gifs of these moments I loved.

Digidestined as Students at UA Academy:
Note: Feel free to disagree with this, I picked the quirks based on these little backstories I had planned for them or how much the vibe of the quirk matched the character, rather than the similarities between the MHA characters and the Digidestined!
Edit: Just realised that the graphic isn’t linked to this post, here’s the list of quirks 😅
Taichi: Once his quirk activates, he becomes the centre of attention everywhere and he truly enjoys every moment of it. He fools around and gets in trouble all the time, and never takes his surroundings seriously. Until one day during the last year of his Middle School, he goes too far and ends up facing a villain in a joke gone too far. The one who comes to his rescue then is his favourite teacher, Daigo, but unfortunately in making sure that Taichi gets out of the tussle alive, Daigo ends up losing his life. This is the turning point in Taichi’s life, and he makes up his mind to become a hero that saves people and swears to never let anyone else die in front of his eyes. He’s strong so of course at first he thinks UA will be a breeze, but he actually ends up placing 2nd in the entrance exam and gets another reality check. (Is obviously one of the Big Three later on.)
Yamato: His quirk is actually not related to either of his parents, and this causes a stir in the small countryside area that they live in. The people in their town are always spreading rumours about the legitimacy of him being his parent’s son or about his mother having cheated on. his father. Sick and tired of being ridiculed and having his family being put under this grim light, Yamato runs away from home at an early age. He enrols in UA with the aim to become a famous hero and shut everyone back home up for good once and for all. He is the strongest in his year and scores the 1st place in the entrance exam. (Obviously also in the Big Three and Taichi’s rival.)
Mimi: Due to how visually pleasing her quirk and Mimi herself is, she was recruited as a child actress and has always been a very popular celebrity since she was young. But as she grows up, she wants people to recognize her quirk and herself for strength and not beauty, so she enrols in UA to break away from the stereotype that she has carried with herself forever. She gets in via recommendation, and to her dismay most of the student body is too nervous to be friendly with her. (Also in the Big Three.)
Takeru: His memories of his brother are very hazy and he doesn’t recall the real reason Yamato just disappeared from home. After seeing him on television during the Sports Festival programme, Takeru decides to enrol into UA to find his brother and make him come back home. Yamato is very wary of him and doesn’t want Takeru to face any criticism at school so he maintains his distance but Takeru interprets this as Yamato not thinking him worthy enough for his attention, so he works even harder to be acknowledged by his brother.
Sora: She is actually very embarrassed of her quirk since she used to get bullied for it during her time at elementary and middle school, but her mother forces her to enrol at UA in hopes that her time there will help Sora overcome her fear of her quirk.
Koushiro: He’s actually one of the witnesses of the incident where Daigo dies and his impression of Taichi is very bad, but when he sees him on the television a year later during the Sports Festival and then in the news for Taichi’s efforts as an intern in a Hero Agency, Koushiro is taken aback by how much he has changed. He enrols in UA so he too can grow stronger and use his quirk for a better purpose, just like Taichi.
Jou: He’s not inclined to become a Hero, or towards violence in general but enrols at UA anyway since that’s a family tradition. At school the teachers are very impressed by how he’s able to rally the students and various classes together, a task most of the teachers fail at too, and suggest to him that he could always choose to work at UA after establishing himself as a hero, which seems appealing enough to Jou to make him continue with the course.
Hikari: She has pretty much lived in the shadow of her brother since she was little, and by enrolling in UA hopes to prove to her family and everyone around her that she’s just as strong as Taichi if not more. However, Taichi cant help but baby her every time he sees her and this usually ends up with Hikari  avoiding him as much as possible at school.
