Something we need in KOTLC is adult male elves with facial hair. I recently saw some art done this way, and it confirmed what I've been thinking for a long time. Now, that's not to say they all have to grow a beard, but it's like it doesn't even exist in the elvin world, and that's boring. We need it, if only for Grady. Lol

I figured out the reason why elves don't have any body hair-

So, we know that elves don't go through puberty like us humans do, right? For example, they don't get pimples.

So, all we have to do is apply the same logic to body hair, which starts to appear when a person goes through puberty, and bam, there's the explanation.

Although it pisses me off that all of the unconventionally attractive stuff about puberty was removed because it's normal to go through that, all humans do. It also annoys me that we barely get to see the KOTLC gang go through any physical changes besides height like??? It would be nice to see Sophie getting pimples or going through her period, and would teach kids about these normal things.

Also, we were robbed of having Grady with facial hair, like a beard, Biana having body hair and some pimples and still being a queen, Dex having pimples, etc.

Also their crossover fic kinda inspired me to write my own? I mean wingfeather falls and birds of a feather are completely different crossovers and genres (theirs between wingfeather saga and gravity falls and is mainly fluff and humor, while mine is between kotlc and wingfeather saga and is pure, unbridled angst) but they both have an misunderstood old dude hopping into Aerwiar and befriending a bird man :)

what do you think dwarf music sounds like? i'm rereading the first book and dex talks about how dwarven(?) music is awesome

oo that's an interesting question! I love the details of various species in fantasy books, and there's a few trends throughout kotlc that I think we can draw upon to take a guess at this one. So I don't remember the specific wording of this line by Dex nor if he gave any other details about dwarven music (I'm going to guess no but I haven't checked at all)

however! we know that Shannon has taken inspiration from the ways the species are most well known and used that for her own world. That was phrased strangely so let me give an example. In Lord of the Rings, the elves have a certain aesthetic (graceful, blonde hair, blue eyes, etc. not all of them are like that, but she used it as inspiration) that she used to adapt to her own elves, modifying what most of us think of when we hear "elf" into something that is recognizable but her own.

using that same logic, we can assume that dwarven music, whatever that sounds like, has roots in "traditional" dwarven music. for me I think of heavier bass sounds, a focus in rhythm, and bawdy vocals if there are vocals at all. There may be clinking or high pitched metallic sounds as well. Overall, reminiscent of time in the mine, time underground. Again, we're going very traditional here.

However, you may recall that Shannon's dwarves are incredibly different from traditional dwarves. They're more like child-sized moles with a sensitivity to sunlight. We can see a connection to traditional dwarves in the way they dig (mine) and spend a lot of time underground (mines) and are covered in hair (dwarven beards). But those are very vague connections, so I'd assume Shannon's dwarven music would also have that really vague connection.

I think what would transfer over is a focus in rhythm and the deep, reverberating sounds. Shannon's dwarves don't mine, so I don't see a reason for those metallic sounds to stick around. But those are just the traditional elements I'd expect to see. There'd likely also be something additional or an adaptation to represent these mole-like dwarves. If we take inspiration from the way the gnomes kind of sing the language of nature (unsure how else to describe it), I think the dwarves might incorporate the sounds of the underground into their music. Okay now I need to figure out how to explain this because I have a specific idea in my head. Have you seen those videos of people who hook up wires/rods to different plants/things and then it translates into sound? Like they stab a mushroom and listen to the noise of the mushroom? (linked). That kind of thing for the underground sounds.

It would set Shannon's dwarves apart in the way their mole-like appearance and tendencies do while also being reminiscent of traditional dwarves and what influences their music.

but then again this is all my personal theorizing!! there may be small details scattered throughout the books that give more insight into what dwarven music actually sounds like that I can't remember right now. I'd be curious to hear it tho!! would love to make some daydream scenarios to some dwarven music, as strange as shannon's dwarven music would probably be

Imagine a kotlc rainbow fairies au. Imagine.

I do not need to imagine, nonsie. I am already there with you. I am 100% invested in this merging of the two worlds. Actually, I was in a bookstore earlier today (yes I went to a bookstore two days in a row shh) and this is the place where they do buy-backs, meaning customers can sell them their books and then the bookstore will offer them used to other people. And I looked at the rainbow fairies shelf and so many of the rainbow magic books were used and being sold and I am 100% certain that several of those were mine. Not all of them, but I am certain multiple were mine. So if anyone wants a rainbow magic book the used ones are 2 dollars at my local bookstore

but!! that is off topic. I'm wondering what exactly a rainbow fairies au would entail. Because in the rainbow magic books we follow Rachel and Kirsty, who are best friends, but if we make the comparison of the two girls discovering/being introduced to a new world and then living sort of half between it, Sophie fits that description best. But! She doesn't have any friends that could fill the other role--Amy might be the closest thing, but she's not someone in the elven world or between it in the way Sophie is, so would we just get rid of the friendship and its only Sophie?

Would each of her friends be one of the seven--given that we're going off of a typical series style here. Okay wait a minute hear me out. We go with the typical style of seven fairies in a group/a series: Fitz, Keefe, Biana, Dex, Marella, Maruca, Wylie. And then Tam and Linh are each special fairies, like the three stories in one kind. Because they aren't part of the group in the same way but are of the same world.

The Neverseen would be the goblins, I'm assuming, as they're the ones actively trying to take over Fairyland or something like that. Does this make Fintan into Jack Frost like we were talking about earlier? The goblins live in the cold, so would we have to alter it to be like a blaing desert with a palace made of sand for the Neverseen, Fintan rocking a beard of fire like Endeavor to match the icicle Beard Jack Frost has.

If we go through with this au we'd essentially be dumbing down the Neverseen a lot, as the goblins are incredibly dumb and that's how they're always defeated. But! They'd be an absolute pain in the ass all of the time.

This au also implies that Sophie would still be living in the human world, her family completely unaware of an unsuspecting that she sneaks away to elf world to fight bad guys and regain magic items. OO! Idea. In this world, there are no abilities in the way kotlc has them, instead that's what their magical objects are!

What would each of them be the fairies of though, that's the real question here..
