Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
❀ logan howlett x f!oc/reader [ongoing series]
➔ this is a story about a woman who came to be known as kotiya; the tiger. once, she was just another face in the crowd. now, something else. during a mission trip to korea, ranielle's life changed forever. lost in the wilderness, a traumatic event awakened her mutant ability—transformation into a monstrous tiger. trapped in this form for months, she became infamous. after a violent encounter and near-capture, she finally reclaimed her human shape. fleeing to new york, she struggles to suppress the primal urges that haunt her. but in an era of heightened mutant surveillance, control is slipping through her fingers. events ensue that place her on the radar of the x-men. with every transformation, more of her humanity is lost. time is running out, but in a world that already sees mutants as threats, the bigger question looms: what happens when she can no longer tell the difference? ⤸

Obelisk Thursday Yeah!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Curiosity was my stone Obelisk, first birthday hatch, and now my sona. They’ve traveled all throughout Sorneith, learning as much as they can about the world around them, before finally settling in Clan Cauldron’s library with Murmur and Kotiya as their reference specialist.
Basalt is a rarity in the Wandering Contagion, having come from the far northern territories of the Nature Flight. Not much is known about him or his past because he doesn’t really speak, which has provided him a sort of kinship with Tesca, Clan Cauldron’s familiar handler and fellow selective mute. He’s recently started working in the mortuary with Maeror, though their (very appreciated) lack of clientele means they don’t spend much time together.
Arev is one of the many small-time deities that lurk around Sornieth. He lives on a hidden beach on the boarder of Light and Water territory, a place that’s always sunny and warm with perfect surf. He’s a very easygoing guy, sometimes to a fault, but that’s what Larkspur is for.

The Incident with the Dothraki
by Shella Longclaw
After the Century of Blood, the Dothraki conquest calmed down. Trade was being firmly established in Vaes Dothrak. A Yi Tish caravan of merchants from Trader Town came to the Dothraki city. “They arrived and behaved in the Dothraki fashion,” as one priest described and defended, since the incident resulted in much bloodshed.
To understand, let’s start at the beginning. There is a great distance between Trader Town and Vaes Dothrak. As the caravan rested midway in Dothraki land, they spotted a khal and his bloodriders killing a female hrakkar and retrieving her hide. The Yi Tish captain was staunch follower of the Lion of Night. The kotiya, or Yi Tish black lion is considered sacred. It is reasonable to conclude that he would view this white lion as sacred. When the Dothraki moved onto the hrakkar’s cubs with a deadly intent, the Yi Tish charged at them and slaughtered them all. The cubs were taken back to Yi Ti and given into the care of a female kotiya.
If the situation had ended there, the Dothraki might not have become enraged. However, the Yi Tish captain was livid. He traveled to Vaes Dothrak and hung the skins of the khal and his bloodriders on two large horse statues. He wisely retreated quickly afterwards. Many Dothraki craved revenge. It would take about two hundred years and several gifts to make amends. In addition, the dosh khaleen had to give their blessing. The governor of Trader Town wanted peace for trade between the powerful and rich Dothraki.
Though scholars believe the Dothraki desired the riches of Yi Ti trade as well and yielded their conquest for revenge to gain them, I can neither support nor discredit this assertion. There is now peace between Yi Ti and the Dothraki. Rumors spread that the Dothraki seek to conquer Yi Ti. It’s a thought which bothers most Yi Tish. Those who worship the Lion of Night welcome such a fight. For them, the incident should have reaped more blood.

Yala Safari: An Unforgettable Adventure in the Wild
Introduction
Embarking on a Yala Safari is like stepping into a world where nature reigns supreme. Located in the southeastern region of Sri Lanka, Yala National Park is a sanctuary for wildlife enthusiasts, adventure seekers, and anyone looking to connect with the raw beauty of the natural world. With its diverse ecosystems, abundant wildlife, and breathtaking landscapes, a Yala Safari offers an experience that is both thrilling and humbling. This article delves into what makes a Yala Safari a must-do adventure, exploring the park's unique features, the wildlife you can expect to encounter, and tips for making the most of your journey.
The Allure of Yala National Park
Yala National Park is the second-largest national park in Sri Lanka and one of the most visited. Spanning over 979 square kilometers, the park is divided into five blocks, with only two open to the public. The park's landscape is a mesmerizing blend of dense jungles, open grasslands, serene lakes, and rugged coastlines. This diversity in habitats makes Yala a haven for a wide variety of flora and fauna.
One of the most striking features of Yala National Park is its proximity to the Indian Ocean. The park's coastline is dotted with pristine beaches and rocky outcrops, offering a unique blend of terrestrial and marine ecosystems. This coastal area is also a nesting ground for sea turtles, adding another layer of intrigue to the Yala Safari experience.
Wildlife Encounters: The Heart of Yala Safari
The primary draw of a Yala Safari is undoubtedly its wildlife. The park is home to 44 species of mammals and over 200 species of birds, making it one of the best places in Sri Lanka for wildlife spotting. The star attraction of Yala is the Sri Lankan leopard (Panthera pardus kotiya), which has one of the highest densities in the world within the park. Spotting a leopard during your Yala Safari is a moment of pure exhilaration, as these elusive creatures are masters of stealth and camouflage.
In addition to leopards, Yala National Park is home to a variety of other mammals, including elephants, sloth bears, water buffaloes, and spotted deer. The park's wetlands and lakes are teeming with birdlife, from colorful kingfishers and bee-eaters to majestic eagles and owls. Crocodiles and monitor lizards can often be seen basking in the sun along the water's edge, while troops of monkeys and langurs add a playful energy to the jungle.
The Best Time for a Yala Safari
Timing is crucial when planning a Yala Safari. The park is open year-round, but the best time to visit is during the dry season, which runs from February to July. During this period, water sources within the park become scarce, forcing animals to congregate around the remaining lakes and waterholes. This makes wildlife spotting significantly easier, as animals are more visible and active.
The early morning and late afternoon are the optimal times for a safari, as the animals are most active during these cooler parts of the day. The golden light of dawn and dusk also adds a magical quality to the landscape, enhancing the overall experience. It's worth noting that Yala National Park can get quite crowded during peak season, so booking your safari in advance is highly recommended.
Exploring the Different Zones of Yala
Yala National Park is divided into five blocks, each with its own unique characteristics. Block 1, also known as the Yala West or Ruhuna National Park, is the most visited and offers the best chances of spotting leopards. This block is also home to several ancient rock formations and caves, some of which contain ancient Buddhist inscriptions and paintings.
Block 2, or Yala East, is less crowded and offers a more tranquil safari experience. This area is characterized by its vast grasslands and is a great place to see elephants and birds. Blocks 3, 4, and 5 are less developed and less frequently visited, making them ideal for those seeking a more off-the-beaten-path adventure. These blocks offer a more rugged and remote experience, with fewer tourists and a greater sense of wilderness.
Tips for a Memorable Yala Safari
To make the most of your Yala Safari, it's important to come prepared. Here are some tips to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience:
Choose the Right Safari Operator: There are numerous safari operators offering tours in Yala National Park. It's essential to choose a reputable operator with experienced guides who are knowledgeable about the park's wildlife and ecosystems. A good guide can make all the difference in spotting animals and understanding their behavior.
Dress Appropriately: The weather in Yala can be hot and humid, so lightweight, breathable clothing is recommended. Neutral colors like beige, green, and brown are ideal for blending into the environment and not startling the animals. Don't forget to bring a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen to protect yourself from the sun.
Bring Binoculars and a Camera: A good pair of binoculars is essential for spotting wildlife from a distance, especially birds and animals that may be far away. A camera with a zoom lens is also a must for capturing those unforgettable moments.
Respect the Wildlife: While it's tempting to get as close as possible to the animals, it's important to maintain a safe distance and not disturb them. Remember that you are a guest in their home, and it's crucial to respect their space and behavior.
Stay Hydrated and Pack Snacks: Safaris can be long, and it's easy to get dehydrated in the heat. Bring plenty of water and some light snacks to keep your energy levels up throughout the day.
Conclusion
A Yala Safari is more than just a wildlife tour; it's an immersive experience that connects you with the untamed beauty of nature. From the thrill of spotting a leopard to the serenity of watching a herd of elephants by a waterhole, every moment in Yala National Park is filled with wonder and excitement. Whether you're a seasoned wildlife enthusiast or a first-time visitor, a Yala Safari promises an adventure that will stay with you long after you've left the park. So pack your bags, grab your camera, and get ready to embark on a journey into the wild heart of Sri Lanka.
