Non-Spoiler info about Date Night
So for the curious:
You can access Date Night from the moment you lock in the romance. For Koth, Lana, and Theron, that is Chapter 9 of KotFE. I finished Chapter 9 on an Eva, had not yet started Chapter X, and I did it. For Arcann, I assume that's right after finishing KotET Chapter 9 (can someone confirm?) when you get his Alliance Alert.
This stirs the questions as to when romances will be considered 'locked' in Vanilla... or do they only 'count' upon the comp's return to game in KotXX? Or do you get it once you get kissy-kissy with them in Vanilla? Dunno yet. Next round of romances might tell us alot.
The dates are signalled by Alliance alerts, so check your Crew menu. The only time you CAN'T repeat them is if your romantic partner is unavailable (i.e., Koth if he goes AWOL, Theron during the Nathema Conspiracy, etc).
The date nights appear to be 'neutral' in terms of time, as a result. They could happen after KotFE Chapter 9, Onslaught, 7.4.1 -- any time. They don't reference the current state of the game or ongoing plots. For your headcannon purposes, you can think this is an early date... or present day one, depending on how you've developed your versions of the romance and character development of the NPCs.
There are also multiple dialogue choices through each date, so you can change the tone and produce different dates each playthrough.
The quests are weekly repeatables. So don't worry if your outfit wasn't perfect or you did not record it or you cringed at that dialogue choice -- you can fix it!
The quests are 3 minutes long or so, but as indicated above, it's "Choose Your Own Adventure" in terms of the tone, dialogue, and certain key actions.
Overall, I liked it -- I just wish there was more!

Fluffy February Day 28: Shy
SWTOR
Pairing: Setra Rowan and Qyzen Fess: Bffs, hunting companions, basically your weird uncle and his feral niece
Time Period: Shortly after KOTFE chapter 9, Trandosha (Qyzen's recruitment mission)
Minor TW for religious discussion
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Breathe in, breathe out. Emotion, yet peace.
It was almost poetic. Qyzen had been Setra's first companion so many year before (Ten? Eleven? Setra had always been bad at math, and carbonite poisoning made it worse) on Tython.
And now, he was the first of Setra's companions that the Eternal Alliance had tracked down Post Carbonite.
Setra swallowed hard. Even though she'd been given Qyzen's rough coordinates on Trandosha, it had still taken her three days to actually track him.
So why was she suddenly so kriffing shy? She had no reason to be. She and Qyzen had been through everything, seen each other at their respective worst and best. Yes, because Arcann had captured her, Setra had lost her "Points" and been shamed in the eyes of the Scorekeeper, the Trandoshan goddess of the Hunt that Qyzen (and Setra, nominally) worshiped. But, the same thing had happened with Qyzen when they first started traveling together, and the pair had regained his honor; the same could be done for Setra.
But it had been five years, and Qyzen had returned to Trandosha to lead a tribe - something he'd once swore wouldn't happen, he was too solitary. Would he want to join Setra on Odessen? Would he care that she needed to regain her Points?
A twig snapped, and Setra's thoughts snapped back to reality as she twirled around, zhaboka at the ready; with her vertigo issues, she felt safer using her ancestral weapon over her dualsaber.
Only to find herself face-to-face with a young Trandoshan, just as surprised as she was.
"What is, a fleshling wanting to trespass? Too soft to hunt."
Setra snorted as she hung her zhaboka on her back. "Bold of you to assume I'm too soft to hunt, pup, especially with my blade and the Force. Now, I'm looking for an old friend - Qyzen Fess. I've been tracking his camp for the last three days, are you one of his companions?"
She guessed correctly; the youngling did a double take. Then he got a good look at Setra and her zhaboka. Then he put two and two together, blushing (as much as a Trandoshan can) as he wrung his hands.
"Herald! Yes, Qyzen has us told all. Did not know you came. Will bring you to camp."
Setra fell in with the youngster as he led her to their camp, clocking that he was walking with a limp. She picked up enough between the Force and her years of hunting (and experience around similarly-aged Trandoshans thanks to her travels with Qyzen) that it was a recent injury, and the youth was trying to tend to it himself.
"So, what caught your leg? Gotten a chance to talk to a healer yet?"
"Am fine, Herald, is small thing."
Ahh. Stepped wrong on an incline, or in an unnoticed trap. Something silly that his pride won't let him admit.
"Right then, I'll be peeking at it once we get to camp; I brought medicine and have experience as a healer."
The young Trandoshan - Khiso, she learned - tried to protest, but Setra shut him down with a Look (a skill she honed long ago thanks to her adoptive mother and Masters Bre and Yuon). The trek to camp, at least, was on even ground, and they reached Qyzen's camp at dusk. Khiso tried to slink off immediately, but Setra firmly grabbed his shoulder and led him over to a vacant stool.
Setra's instincts won out; Khiso had indeed run afoul of a trap that he'd missed, and the wound had started to fester. Soon they were joined by a circle of older Trandoshans - several of whom Setra recognized and greeted - who promptly scolded Khiso for being so careless as Setra tended the wound, using a mix of the Force and healing salves that she kept in hidden pockets (and preferred over Kolto when hunting).
And then she heard him.
His voice was soft; he was at the other end of the camp, having just returned from scouting. Setra finished her handiwork and stood up, a lump in her throat, all of her confidence evaporating, suddenly shy.
She couldn't find the right words, her mouth dry.
She didn't need to; as if the Force had whispered to him, Qyzen Fess, Setra's oldest and dearest friend, looked up and met Setra's gaze.
They both stared for a long, agonizing moment.
And then Qyzen dropped the report he was reading, and in three long not-quite-running strides he scooped up Setra and spun her around before they crashed to the ground in a hug.
Qyzen shakily touched Setra's cheek, and she placed her hand on his right eye; it had been scarred and blinded in a fight. A fight that Setra should have been present for, and could have saved him in.
"Herald, little one, how? Thought you lost on Zakuul."
"I was. They threw me in carbonite for five years, I only got out a few weeks ago thanks to Lana and some of her friends. Qyzen, I - I lost my Points. The Scorekeeper is pissed at me right now."
Qyzen rumbled in his chest and throat as he rested his forehead against Setra's, not caring that her horns were poking him."
"Who, little one, Arcann? The Emperor?"
"Both. Arcann captured me, the Emperor forced his way into my head. We haven't figured out yet how to remove him."
Qyzen nodded, still rumbling. Despite herself, Setra started purring in response; Qyzen was one of the handful of people who brought it out. After a moment, they stood up and Qyzen started packing his things.
"Come, little one. Have much to do to regain your points and please the Scorekeeper. Will come to Odessen. Maybe retire, after."
Setra laughed as she helped him pack, her confidence restored.
thanks for the tag, @greencrusader13 !
Last song: Heroes Forge Ahead (FF14: Endwalker soundtrack. first 6:22 minutes of this video)
Favorite color: Honestly, varies every day. Right now, I'm feeling a peacock blue, or turquoise.
Currently watching: Dunmeshi and Bad Batch, though I'm not into TV series like I used to be. I often forget to watch the latest episodes.
Sweet/Savory/Spicy: It used to be sweet, but in the past year or so, my taste buds have refused to accept spicy foods. I've even had to forgo some of my favorite chips flavors (goodbye, Lays magic masala. You were there for me when no one else was). I think I've lost my Indian badge. I'm more of a cheese, corn, paneer, and mushroom guy now. Is that 'savory'?
Relationship status: Single.
Current Obsession: My fanfic series, the Records of Heroes Past. It follows the PC cast of Star Wars: the Old Republic, plus additional OCs I added in. It retells the stories, and expands on them. I'm currently at Book 5: Limbo, which focuses on Lana Beniko during the 5 year timeskip after KOTFE Chapter 1. I've put my heart and soul into that garbage, and I can't stop now. Once it's done, I might quit everything.
Last thing I googled: Koth Melan. He's a character from Shadows of the Empire; a Bothan spymaster who is instrumental in securing the Death Star II intel for the Alliance to Restore the Republic.
That's it, I'm done. Tagging @the-sith-in-the-sky-with-diamond @captainderyn @elveny @pineaberry @nusaran @sheyshen @kunstpause @deadpoet117
So apparently SWTOR has rolled Date Night cutscenes for some of our companions (namely Lana, Theron, Koth and Arcann) but I didn't know about it, because they sneakily hid it in Alliance Allerts, which I kept ignoring for ages now. There is never anything interesting there.
Important info: if you never fulfilled the quest "Things Left Unsaid" and kept ignoring it, like a stubborn polyamory stan like me, after you got together with another companion, you will still get access to the Date Night cutscene. The only thing I don't know as of now is whether that date night will affect the date night you can have with the companion you are currently romancing. Like are they mutually exclusive or not?
I can't check because none of the old companions got one. Both alts I romanced Koth and Theron on got reunited with a class companion. But from the description given on swtor.com it sounds as if the scene would be available as long as the romance is active. The issue I have is that I'm unsure how the romance flag looks like if you don't do the "Thing Left Unsaid" mission as due to the changes before, the game now has only one flag and one flag only so it MAY mean you will have to fullfill this mission first if you want to get allert with a class comp.
It's also not clear what will happen if you do the date night missions first and then fulfill Things Left Unsaid. Would you get Date Nights with the companion you are actually dating then? Or will game rob you of that opportunity? But like I said, we can't really check it now unless someone was romancing Theron/Lana/Koth and chose Arcann later.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Edit: SWTORISTA made a guide to those romances and look!
"Didn’t romance anyone? Lana Romance Bug awesome!: If you have already moved past Chapter 9 of KOTFE, and didn’t romance Lana, there is a fun bug right now! You can REPLAY Chapter 9, and when you get to the option to speak with one of your companions, choose Lana, [Flirt] with her, and say yes to the Romance. This will permanently place you in a romance with Lana Beniko and allow you to start her [Date Night] quest! This is great for players who maybe didn’t romance anyone but wanted to see a Date Night quest. I am unsure how this bug would affect characters already in a romance, so only do it if you aren’t worried about your character being in a romance with Lana. This does not seem to work for other companions." ~ SWTOR Date Night Guide and Achievement Rewards – Lana, Theron, Koth, Arcann romance!
I CAN FIX MY BLUNDER! (The only sad thing is that I already did Nathema on this character and I had to accept that I will never marry Lana T.T) It's so unfair that they don't want to give us an option to replay it to fix our romance flags. Making a mistake shouldn't be a punishment. I didn't pick that opion on purpose, it was misleading.
Edit 2: So I tried that method and the flag only stays active if you never finish chapter 9 and keep it on your mission log. I suspect it's probably because I was so fed up with the fact that devs didn't let me fix Lana's flag that I agreed to romance Jaesa, and now every time I finish chapter 9 Lana's flag gets overwritten by Jaesa's flag. Funny is that though after you trigger Lana's flag you also can meet H1-R1 that was a droid deployed to fix a bug with Lana's marriage. You can then set marriage too. I'm unsure though if you can do new content with chapter 9 always active. I have Echoes of Oblivion already active, so the mission doesn't overwrite chapter 9, but it's possible that if I just push with further missions, one of them will close chapter 9 again.
K so I got to the cantina scene on chapter 9 in KOTFE on TR, and compared to past playthroughs it was very very different… because TR got to choose who she wanted to talk to rather than the game choosing at random for the romanced companions… does anyone know if that’s something they updated? On all my other Rose related playthroughs it always automatically chose Theron, I never actively had the choice to choose him… wtf happened? What changed? Did I miss something?
A little something about Artek in KOTFE
He doesn't start things off...great.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah, in Chapter 3 of KOTFE, Artek let the reactor explode. I know, that doesn't seem pretty reasonable, but hear me out.
He just came out of carbonite, he's lost and confused, definitely not too keen on saving the people who kept him stuck in a block of ice for five years and occupied his home nation. However, this isn't treated as an excuse.
Yeah, he does get pretty aggressive around Zakuulans during the first 9 chapters, mainly due to him relapsing into his hatred for Valkorion/VItiate. Same thing happened in Chapter 3 However, after the Alliance is founded, and with the help of his allies, he begins to temper himself more and starting to atone for his actions in the first half of KOTFE. His biggest moment is when he stops Kaylio from firebombing the Spire during Chapter 10.
I'd love to hear your guys's feedback/suggestions on this.
A mutual was kind enough to give a heads up. TL:DR apparently they are going to purge names from any characters who have not been logged in since January 1, 2024 when the next patch drops (and I'm not up enough to know when that is but I will assume soon). As a detail you have to log in to every single individual character you want to save, it's not enough just to log into your account. Supposedly paid accounts are immune to this. Only upside I can see is that you do get access to the date nights for any of the KOTFE-KOTET romances if you have finished chapter 9 of KOTFE.
Feeling feels about the SWTOR "If you didn't log in, you're losing your name" bullshit. One thing, giving this only about a year's grace period is pretty sus IMHO especially when one considers the amount of disasters happening, longterm illness, deployments, wars, etc. happening. I feel like they should have given this a grace period of a bit longer.
Am I going to play SWTOR again? Not incredibly likely given that the way the story has gone since 6.0 - the Alliance Commander being reverted to a faction lackey with all progress completely lost - does not sit well with me. One of the reasons I have mostly fallen out of love with Star Wars is that unlike the first three OG films, it seems like a fucking hamster wheel nobody ever escapes. For millennia after millennia, the same exact bullshit, or variations thereof, with a very stark, narrow and dogmatic worldview and "this side evil! This side good" simplistic perspective that is entirely grating. They never learn. They never move on. Any of them. One of the reasons I loved SWTOR up through KOTET is that it seemed like they escaped that hamster wheel, that there were broadened perspectives and "gee, it looks like there are good and evil people everywhere in the galaxy, and maybe we shouldn't write off entire planets and spiritual expressions as evil, and how can we build bridges to go beyond what we have now?" sentiments and stories. And then they did the traitor arc and oops, here we are again on the same treadmill. Having said that I poured so many hours into Viri, and so many into my other alts there, and built up such a world for them, and spent so many hundreds of dollars on years of subscription, that their names mean something to me. I also worry that since I have the Rain Plays SWTOR page, which still does get read and referenced, that if someone sees a character running around with one of my names that does awful shit it will reverb back on me by name association. ...which is why I'm downloading a 51GB game so I can log in for two minutes to save Viri's names. I haven't even played since 7.0 drops so I assume I'm going to find her abilities bar gutted and also have to pick fighting styles for her (I don't give a damn; all my Jedi are getting the Sith equivalents and all my Sith are just getting whatever is the other DPS in their own home class). Ah well. Just dropping in to say hi, putting Viri and Lana back in their house if needed (the Alderaan stronghold has a tendency to not leave people where you put them) and dropping out again. But I feel like it might be nice to say hi to these two for a few minutes. This is where I left them.
that speech
man i hate all the speeches you do in kotfe... mostly because the writers can’t write speeches. I mean I can’t either. which is why i don’t put them into my things
either way
Tumblr media
[image: First the dialogue wheel showing “give an inspiring speech”. the first line of that inspiring speech is tank saying “The galaxy as we knew it is gone.” end image]
"how do i inspire people? by telling them the galaxy they knew earlier is gone? yeah that should do the trick”
Tumblr media
[image: dialogue from tank reading “we don’t all share the same ideologies, but every one of you is here because you believe we can transcend our differences.” end image]
“And by ‘our differences’, i mean at least half the people here think that a large section of the galaxy is subhuman and undeserving of basic freedom, but let’s try to play this off as a high school sports team rivalry thing in the writing, rather than any fundamental moral difference”
Tumblr media
[image: dialogue from Saeyt doraz reading “I believe it too. Either we succeed together, or we fail alone. Let’s not fail.” end image]
seriously did they not have the budget to commission a professional speech writer? This is just.... sooo bad. i mean in character, becuase tank sucks at speeches, but its clearly not intended to be read as terrible because theron says there’s an increase in moral afterwards
@yourlocalangryautistic the writers never include your “bluff badly” option for fully roleplaying in character, but they do have a “public speak badly”
It's the complain time again.
While I'm waiting for PTS to be available (it's still not active?), I saw yet another person not being happy with easy 'tank and spank' bosses for the new flashpoints, wishing that new bosses were like in the Lost Island (arguably one of the most difficult flashpoints, especially on master mode).
And look, I understand why they want more difficult content, I welcome a challenge myself. BUT. Not on story mode. You know, since the new flashpoint is a part of overall story (the very reason a lot of players are invested in this game), it should be manageable for all types of players.
If you want a challenge, go and try this fp on veteran or master mode, but don't complain about it being too easy on story mode.
Also, throwing a bunch of veteran mode silver and gold mobs is not difficult, it's annoying and long. (As long as they don't hit as on vet mode, I mean)
Fic thoughts
Well, we've passed the 4 year mark since "the Captain" was created for "Lady of Emancipation." That was the first appearance of Eva in my SWTOR fic (and my first post on AO3) back in February 2020. In that fic, Bowdaar comes to Odessen after Eva wins Zakuulan fight club and bleeds into a bucket, much to the distress of Theron. It's set between Chapters 9 and 10 of KotFE.
I'm approaching that fic in the timeline, and while a lot of salient elements of Eva and my version of Theron remain, there are some differences. Some of the speech is clunky, and "Eva Corolastor" is not a named character. She's just the Captain, and at the time, I knew she was NOT my Cathar smuggler, Dyominia, who is LS5.
The Captain has no future, in her own mind. She hates slavery. She loves Theron. That's all there was. There's a lot more to Eva now.
There's a part of me that wants to revisit that plotline and revise it, but I don't want to pull a George Lucas and make the old version unavailable. I don' t want to take it down or edit it, because that's not what has been there for 4 years as a gateway to the rest of the series. I'm also sort of like "well, it's not completely out of character or inconsistent, even as Eva is now." Yet it is, plus I was shaking off about 11 years of fan fic writing rust at the time; I'm not 100% happy with it now, in retrospect.
I'm not deleting the old fic, but I'm divided as to how to handle it. If I incorporate the plot into a larger, different story, do I leave the old version within the series as a memorial to what was? Or remove it, and let the readers in the future stumble across it as they may? Or should I leave it as is, flaws and all, and not rewrite it at all?
Thinking about him again this morning! I think I have a name (Remy Kaarz?). Still puzzling over class possibilities, although mostly so I can listen to different voice actors (main contenders are Knight, Hunter, or Trooper on class, but switching it up on the actual play style because why not?)
The real question is… who should he smooch???
Has anyone compiled a list of post-class romance lock in points?
Like I know Lana, Koth, and Theron are KotFE chapter 9, but what about Arcann? Could you conceivably skip to Iokath and have the Arcann romance available? But if you skip straight to Ossus, what romances/flirts are available? Some are class, possibly gender restricted (ie: Scourge, Zenith, certain Elara, Kira, and Nadia). Others are class agnostic (Anri/Arn/Rass). I know there are options, but wonder if anyone has put together a comprehensive list. For science.
(And smooches)
These are super important decisions, you know.
Everyone posting their cute Mirialan lads has brought to my attention that I in fact do NOT have an adorable Mirialan man, and this clearly needs to be rectified.
