“Why are we here?” She asked once they got back to their guest room at Zver’s place. In-ho looked over at her then walked to the minibar in the small lounge area that was just outside of the bedroom. She took a seat on the couch and sighed. Thankfully, after everything that had happened at the club she had been given normal clothing to wear.

“I think it’s because he knows your father is looking for you.”

“He’s going to be looking somewhere in the east river once they get rid of Lucas’s body so what does it matter where we are?”

“I have my doubts he’ll keep us here for long.” In-ho shrugged and poured himself a glass of whiskey.

“Yes, but why did we have to come here in the first place? I mean it’s obvious you are trying to make some kind of alliance or something with his family but why?” He glanced her in direction for a moment then added two cubes of ice to his glass. He grabbed another one and looked at it.

“Drink?”

“I’d prefer painkillers more, both if possible.”

“I have both.” He said and then pulled a bottle of pills from the pocket of his blazer. It was a prescription bottle and though she didn’t know what they were she was going to assume they were the same or similar to what Zver had given her earlier. Normally, in a situation as bad as this one she wouldn’t have considered getting trashed but she was in pain. Not just physically but emotionally and she just wanted something to numb it while she had the chance.

“Vodka and cranberry then. Heavy on the vodka.”

He nodded and went about making her drink, though he still wasn’t answering her question. She just played with the sleeves of the sweatshirt that she had been given that was also about three sizes too big for her. It was tempting to repeat herself but she figured that he’d yell at her or something and she really wasn’t in the mood for that. He had probably decided he didn’t owe her any answers even though she’d done nothing but be beneficial to him during the entire time he had her hostage.

When the drinks were ready he picked them up and walked over to her. He held out her drink first then the bottle of pills. She looked it over, understanding from the label that the pills were Perocets and the bottle was about half full. She took out two of them and downed them with her drink, finishing half of it in one breath before setting it back down on the table in front of them. Then she held the pill bottle back towards him.

“Keep it, just don’t keep it where they know you have it.”

“Thanks, I….think.” She took the pills and slipped them into the pocket of the hoodie and picked up her drink again. He got out a pack of cigarettes and opened it, holding it out to her so she could take one. She did and he lit it up for her before lighting one for himself. He then took a sip of whiskey and relaxed back on the couch.

“This isn’t what it looks like.”

“What isn’t? The whole partnership with Zver thing?”

“Yes,” He nodded, “I know how it appears but things aren’t always what they seem.”

“I know.” She took a drag from her cigarette and exhaled slowly, “So are you going to explain it to me or what?”

“Sometimes a man has no choice but to do certain things to attempt to save others and it doesn’t go as planned so he ends up in debt to criminals.” She looked at him, knowing that he definitely meant himself even though he hadn’t said it. “Then they don’t have the money to pay back but they’d rather not die so they agree to terms that normally they wouldn’t have to save their own ass and later regret it. Deeply.”

“Was this regret before or after you met me?”

“After.”

“At what point exactly? Lucas…dying?” She had to pause for a moment since she got choked up saying it. Though she had been angry at him earlier for not allowing her to help or even watch what was going on she realized in that moment that only having the memory of how it sounded was probably far better than having to watch it. After seeing her brothers die in horrific ways at the hands of the Russian mafia she knew that had to be true. She would have nightmares about it anyway, just like she did with her brothers, but at least she wouldn’t have a visual of it.

“No.” He shook his head, “I knew I should be regretting it when you saved Seo-jun even after what he’d done to you.”

“Yeah, well like I said, it’s not really in my nature to let someone die when I can do something about it. Even if he seemed to not give a damn about that tonight so he could do what he did to me.”

“You may have noticed that he’s not in his right mind but he did have some brief hesitations on if he should or shouldn’t comply with what Zver wanted. We both knew that he was on thin ice anyway and he wouldn’t have lived this time had he refused.” She was surprised to hear that even though it hadn’t appeared to her that Seo-jun had any sort of hesitation. She supposed he couldn’t, though. Any hesitation may have gotten him shot in the head. Though she also had no reason to believe that In-ho was telling the truth about this she also didn’t think it was something he’d lie about since there was no part of that lie which would benefit him or her. She took another drag from her cigarette.

“So you were normal before all of this?”

“I wouldn’t say normal, desperate may be a better word, it led me to panic enough to try to get help from the Mafia that’s for sure.” He chuckled darkly and took another sip of his drink then looked at her, “He didn’t like how it was being run, he’s had control over this Korean family for a few years, he never explained how he took over. I wasn’t interested in finding out. He wanted a replacement and I assured him I could do it. I suppose he believed me since I used to be law enforcement.”

“Really?” She laughed, “I would think that would make him trust you less.”

“It didn’t start that way, there were tests, work, but I knew I’d rather be at the top of the food chain than the bottom. Do you think anyone other than a complete psychopath wants to be where Seo-jun is?”

“Well, when you put it that way…”

“He didn’t trust me but he knew by the time he was ready to get rid of the other guy I was the most suitable replacement. I did my job and perhaps I liked the power, perhaps I still like it but you…I was not expecting.”

“I don’t think anyone expects me to be how I am.” She finished the rest of her drink and set the glass down on the table. “I may not have been had I not lost my mother. I may have gone her route and become a singer, or tried to. Once she left or died, whatever happened with that, I knew that the most righteous thing I could do was enter a profession that was about saving lives. Not taking them. My father didn’t want me to go to school, he wanted me to go into the family business. You can guess how much I actually wanted to do that. Now I’m here. I guess we have more in common than I first thought.”

“Much more.” He looked down into his glass before taking another sip.

“I hope not because the more this night goes on the more attractive you’re starting to look.” She laughed then finished her cigarette and snuffed it out in the ashtray between their two drinks. After another moment she got up, swaying on her feet a bit. The alcohol mixing with those pills was working faster than she had expected it to. “Sorry, it’s the uh…stuff I took.”

“Of course.” He said but he didn’t sound or look like he believed her.

“Yeah well I can’t exactly help that I have Daddy issues and everyone fucking knows it.” She rolled her eyes, “So use that information however you want, but, don’t get yourself killed. I can look after me, as I always have.”

“I would assume as much, or else I wouldn’t feel the same attraction to you.”

“Right, are you sure you mean me and not my hot, sexy, voluptuous mother that everyone thinks I look like? Kind of like the cheap knock off version I guess.” She snorted and headed towards the door to the bedroom. She was going to need to lay down before the pills worked well enough that she couldn’t stand up at all.

“I don’t know your mother, or even what she looks like. Zver’s brought her up, so has Seo-jun but I have nothing to compare her to you. Even if I did, I never knew your mother so I wouldn’t have any reason to like her instead of you.” He took another sip of his drink.

“Just know that you are way out of my league, looks wise, my mother? No, she…she’d have been out of your league also she was just as racist as my father so she’d not have considered it. When it comes to me I’m…pretty bottom rung.” She laughed and leaned against the doorway, feeling the buzz start to kick in along with the general euphoria of taking opiates and mixing them with alcohol.

“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.”

“Well then behold another eye because you need to get yours checked.” She opened the door to the bedroom and walked over to the bed. Was he really saying she was attractive? And why was she even thinking about this right after Lucas was murdered? In all fairness it probably was the fact that she was intoxicated, though she had already found him plenty attractive before anything had happened to Lucas. Same with Seo-jun. Physically anyway. She was still repulsed by Seo-jun physically, but after the events of the previous days, watching In-ho at least attempt to protect her she couldn’t help but consider that maybe he wasn’t the enemy. It didn’t seem like it. Not with what he’d said about Zver and how he’d gotten to this position in the first place. Besides, at the club he seemed intent on killing the man. She knew she hadn’t been bluffing when she said that she was going to help. The only problem was that she didn’t know how either of them were going to get in a position to do it in the first place. It was only of those things where she knew if it wasn’t done right the first time, they’d never get another chance because they’d be dead. As she laid down on the bed and got comfortable she watched the door, wondering if In-ho was going to join her anytime soon. Though she wasn’t able to say awake for long seeing as how the drugs were kicking in, and fast. Within ten minutes she was in a very deep drug induced sleep.

“Galina,”

She groaned as she opened her eyes. Not only was she in serious pain but she felt very sober and that was the last thing she wanted after the night before. There was no way Seo-jun hadn’t broken at least one rib when he punched, possibly two. She rolled over to see In-ho there. He was holding out two pills and a glass of water. She sat up quickly, gasping in pain as she did. At some point she’d taken off the sweatshirt she’d fallen asleep in, though she hadn’t remembered when she did that. It did explain why he had that bottle of pills though.

“Thanks.” She took the pills from him and swallowed them with the water then laid her head back down on the pillow again. “More sleep.”

“No, not more sleep. It’s almost noon and if you want to get out of here you need to do exactly what I say.”

“Out of here like I get to go home or out of here like I go back to your estate thing?”

“What do you think?”

She knew it was a dumb question to ask even as she was asking it. Of course he hadn’t meant going back home but it was probably better she was at their compound than staying with the Russians who she absolutely hated. After another deep breath she sat up and ran a hand through her hair to push it out of her face.

“What was it you just said again?”

“You will need to listen to everything I say.”

“Okay, I’ve mostly been doing that anyway it shouldn’t be too hard.” She took the water back from him and finished what was in the cup.

“Good, shower and get cleaned up, when you come back out I will have something for you to wear and a few more details. We need to make sure we aren’t late for lunch.”

“Do I get actual food or just get to look at everyone else eat?”

“I don’t know yet but I can promise you once we get back that I will feed you.”

She nodded and forced herself to get up. She didn’t want to, because she hurt everywhere, but it wouldn’t take very long for those two pills to kick in on an empty stomach. She was sure by the time she was out of the shower she’d have a good buzz going. Something she ended up being right about, but probably only because she ended up staying in the shower for about twenty minutes fixing and washing the new long hair she had. The extensions were very nice and she was hoping to keep getting them done until her actual hair grew back again.

When she came into the bedroom she had only a towel wrapped around her. In-ho was waiting on the bed smoking a cigarette, though he was already dressed in one of his designer suits. He motioned to some clothing at the foot of the bed. She walked over and picked it up to look at it. When she realized it was a catholic schoolgirl outfit she snorted back a bit of laughter. At least this was slightly better than the slutty stripper dress from the night before. She dropped the towel and started to get ready.

“I like your hair like that.”

“This?” She looked at him, “I just put it in a french braid, otherwise it would be a nightmare when it dries since I don’t have a hair dryer in there.”

“It suits you.”

“Thanks, so does your…well you’re good looking no matter what you wear I’m sure.” She finished tying the top to the outfit, then sat on the edge of the bed and grabbed the knee high socks to put on. Thank god this time she’d been given comfortable panties to wear under the skirt. It was obnoxiously short but she was very tired of either nothing or thongs to wear.

“Do you really think that?”

“Yes, I wouldn’t say it if I didn’t. Though I do mean physically, you realize, still not sure where I find you on the mental scale.”

“Fair enough.” He sat up and got a bit closer. “Zver is going to want me to prove to him that I have you under control enough as a pet that we can leave, for now.”

“Pet? Control?”

“Yes.” He nodded, “So when he asks me to show him, you’re going to have to do whatever I say without hesitation.”

“And how bad will this be?” She reached down to grab the heels left for her. They were stilettos but she was used to those, they wouldn’t be nearly as bad as the platform stripper shoes. They were lucky she could still walk after the events of the previous night.

“Bad enough to convince him that you are under my control but as easy for you as I can make it. Now, understand that I won’t force you to do this but should you not, you will get some kind of punishment and we will be stuck here at least another day if now two. As you can probably imagine I am not fond of Zver or his men so I would appreciate it if you did what I’m asking.” He continued.

“What’s in it for me? I mean other than a guaranteed meal when I get back.”

“You want to take him out as much as I do, yes?”

“Obviously.”

“We can plan that.”

“How can I trust anything you are saying is true?” She asked, “How do I know this isn’t a trick? A test of some sort? Wouldn’t you have taken him out way before now if you thought that was an option?”

“Yes and no.” He sighed, “My biggest problem would be getting one of his men on my side to translate everything when I kill him.”

“What? Why?”

“The general belief in this family is that if someone is able to take out the leader they also take their place. As you can imagine if I were to do that I would immediately be met with resistance and I’d need someone to be able to translate commands for me. Not to mention back up and allies so I’m not immediately mutinied.”

“Okay, you have a point on that.” She laid back on the bed and closed her eyes for a moment, “Wouldn’t it be more beneficial for us to stay then?”

“Not when you are this injured, no. There will be other visits, I’m sure of that.”

“And what exactly do we do until then? My father surely will figure out where you are keeping me. It’s not going to be like this forever. If you don’t give me up he will have you marked and I’m sure there’s already a very large bounty on your head. Not to mention Seo-jun if you sent them that video.”

“I’m aware of that.” He nodded and held out his cigarette to her. She looked at him and took it then took a drag. It was nice, she’d definitely needed that.

“Are there any Russians here that maybe don’t like Zver, willing enough to help us but not wanting the actual power themselves?”

“Possibly. I hear about a man named Lex quite a bit. I’ve only ever seen him at a few meals, he’s odd. Zver doesn’t like him but says he’s too much of an asset to get rid of. I don’t believe his brother likes it here either. Much like me it seems like they didn’t have much of a choice, come here and work for Zver or die.”

“Huh, well, that would put us in a good position if we could get in with them but that also leaves open a big question of how we do that.” She took another drag from the cigarette and held it back out to him.

“If I see them at lunch I’ll point them out to you and maybe we can figure it out from there.” He said. She nodded. The plan seemed to be to find these guys and also find a way to convince them to be on their side. All of it very stupid anyway because he could be lying, she didn’t know and she wasn’t going to just trust that he wasn’t because he said he wasn’t. Though she doubted he’d kill her since she was good leverage against her father and his men, she didn’t think this would guarantee her freedom. The best she could do was go along with him while looking out for herself. Which meant getting these men on her side more than his but including him in a way that if she made a move he wouldn’t get hurt. What she did know was that she was going to get revenge for Lucas and if he even slightly attempted to get in her way by betraying her she’d slit his throat too. That much was certain. Before she could say anything else there was a knock on the door and a woman poked her head in.

“Zver needs you for lunch now.”

“Thank you.” In-ho said and got up. “Ready?”

“Yes, sir.” She stood up and started to walk out of there behind him. Hopefully this wouldn’t go as bad as she was already thinking it would but there was no way of knowing. Hope for the best and prepare for the worst, that was all she had left at the moment.

61. Tiny Pretty Things, by Sona Charaipotra and Dhonielle Clayton

Owned: No, library Page count: 438 My summary: Gigi, Bette, and June are all reaching the end of their time at the American Ballet Company. Senior girls, this is the time when they will be expected to work the hardest, be the best, and earn the title of prima ballerina. But only one can be prima, and the rest are ready to fight dirty to gain the coveted role. Pranks turn dangerous. Hatred turns bitter. This beautiful sport is about to become deadly. My rating: 3/5 My commentary:

I used to know a lot more about ballet. When I was little, I was fascinated by it - the athleticism of the dancers, the beauty and skill on display. My favourite ballet was Giselle, the story of a young woman driven to death by love, who rises from the grave as a ghost among the ghosts of other unmarried women. As I grew older, though, my interest moved from ballet to musicals, and my knowledge of it faded. But I still retained a vague interest. Which is why I picked up this book, a story of teenage girls in the American Ballet Company and the trials they go through as part of their chosen vocation. While on the whole I wasn't that fussed about the book, I did largely enjoy it, though I'm not sure I'd pick it up again.

The narrative switches between three characters - Bette, Gigi, and June. Bette is an established dancer from a family of dancers, who is also the head Mean Girl of the school and sore at being overshadowed. Gigi is an up-and-comer with a bright personality who worries about being sidelined because she's black. June is a strange, antisocial girl who is concerned with perfectionism and always being the best. As Gigi starts getting soloist parts, the others are jealous and competing with her, as well as dealing with their own issues. Bette has a controlling mother and believes that she should be on top at all times, just like her older sister Adele. June has an eating disorder and is bullied by the other Korean girls at the school, leading to her isolation. And Gigi has a medical condition that makes dancing dangerous, as well as having to deal with attacks from the other dancers that grow increasingly more vicious. The similarity of the plot to Giselle is noticeable, with Gigi and Bette fighting over the same boy, especially given that Gigi's full name is Giselle - or maybe that's just my personal obsession showing.

Ballet is a merciless thing. To learn how to dance ballet, you ideally have to start at a very young age, and even then only have a relatively brief window where you are at your peak and can perform. Competition for roles is fierce, and standards around appearance are stringent. That basically all the girls in this novel have eating disorders is unsurprising - many top ballet schools prize slim people with barely any body fat, and will harshly criticise any dancer who is overweight. Obviously this is dangerous in any person, but particularly in teenage girls. The art is physically demanding and takes a toll on a person's body, with injuries being commonplace. I think this book portrayed all of that adequately. June's eating disorder, Bette's pill addiction, Gigi's increasing paranoia - all of these things are at least versions of real things ballet dancers experience. On top of that, there's the stress and competition. Solo parts are highly sought after, and attacks on soloists aren't unheard of, dramatised here when Gigi has glass placed in her ballet shoe among other things. Also not unheard of is inappropriate relationships between teachers and dancers. Adults in the ballet world grooming their young charges is abhorrent, but it does happen, and we see hints of it here with Mr K, the girls' teacher.

So then why am I so nonplussed by the book? Eh, it's probably because I didn't really think the story was that strong. The mystery of who's hurting Gigi was really obvious considering that we only have two principal candidates, and Bette's an obvious red herring. My biggest problem, though, was that two of the three protagonists just aren't that likeable. I understand and sympathise with their struggles, but I don't think they're humanised enough to keep my interest. The bitchy and cut-throat nature of the ballet world is emphasised again and again and again, to the point where I just sort of stopped caring about anything that happened to these girls. Gigi was the most human for me, by virtue of her doing mostly nothing wrong. And I know, the book's more trying to criticise the culture around ballet and the atmosphere fostered at top ballet schools, showing that this profession is what has chewed these girls up and spat them out, their plight isn't really their fault. Doesn't mean it kept my interest as a narrative, though. Furthermore, the meanness and backstabbing of the narrative starts really early on, we rarely get any moments of levity, and I think that would have made all the difference to humanise these girls a bit more. It's also noticeable that June's tormentor, Sei-Jin, is gay and June uses this against her - so is Will, who blackmails Bette. Unfortunate handling of your queer characters there. But for all that, I have to praise it for one thing - though it's heavily implied, the book never quite comes out and says that June was the one attacking Gigi, leaving the reader to work it out for themself. I like that! It's a nice move, and I really would have had an issue if the last section had been just June narrating MWA HA HA I WAS A BITCH ALL ALONG, so kudos!

Next, a girl's story of fleeing from war.

he doesn't ask if because he's curious about the guy's answer , he doesn't even remember he asked it until he starts talking ; what will you do with the money if you win ? and considering the fact that all his earning was apparently going to be paid for himself , to save himself , he feels the need to call himself selfish . yejun is the last person to say this , nor acknowledge it with voice . but the fact that subong says it out loud means he doesn't want to be , nor is selfish . lost everything when he was supposed to have everything , korean artists already face the drug addict allegations merely because they work too hard and never get tired - always slim , always present with creative ideas . thanos isn't too colorful and lively when he's sober , yejun didn't know where he kept the pills until he popped one in his mouth two minutes ago . yejun also realizes he's been staring , at the side of his face that's illuminated by the piggy bank above them . poor idiot , he was going to die here if he stayed high all the time . ‘ .. you don't have very noble plans after the games end , it seems . ‘ his breath leaves his chest like laughter , his head leans back against the wall and his eyes close . a pause , then a soft mumble ; ‘ being selfish keeps you alive . ‘ why does he sound like his dad ? the thought makes his jaw clench for a moment before the visible tension disappears . and once again the recruiter is left with a peaceful expression of exhaustion .

Ahh Monday morning... it wasn't your least favorite day of the week but certainly, couldn't beat Thursdays when your favorite Korean drama updated. It was killing your curiosity waiting to find out what the heck happened to the main lead when their love interest returned his ring. (Like how can one do Lee Hyungseok dirty like that!)

Your mind drifts back to present time and you finally work the energy to toss in your bed and look at the clock... 5:30am... ugh why am I up? Maybe I should make breakfast orrr grab coffee somewhere? You immediately create a mental picture of the breakfast options you could eat but in reality you'll probably start your day with coffee.

You took a look around the room which surprisingly, still looked like you remembered. It had been about 5 years since you've been in this room. There were still the same old family pictures hanging over the desk and the same drawer and bed that you'd use whenever you came to visit. There were a few boxes pilled in a corner of the room marked Kurakawa's stuff and a different set marked storage. Grandpa did say he used this as a guest room but after he heard you decided go come back. He quickly packed away anything he added to the room and prepped the room with your things. It warmed your heart to know that he was actually very happy you came home.

But to think its been years since you've slept in this bed yet something never felt so comfortable and homey. You couldn't help but sink back into your pillows and snuggled up in your blanket. Slowly your eyelids start falling back down...ahh sleeping in sounded nice.

There goes your plan to sleep in. You sit up and after a minute or two, you got up and walked over to open your luggage. You spend some time to place a few of your jackets and dresses inside the drawer in an attempt to clear your luggage (that’s been sitting for the past 2 days). You finally found the first pair of comfortable shorts to change into so you can go march your hungry self into the kitchen and whip up another one of your earlyyy morning meals.

Before you could go and do this favor, you realize that something was wrong with your luggage.

The sound of a bus arriving and the last minute call were the signals that you needed to worry about this later since you had a task to do.

After a short bus ride over you finally arrived to Nekoma High.

You walked into the gate and you could see students running around preparing for what you took as an end of the year activity. Your grandpa briefly mentioned this was a way clubs and organizations got members to join for the following year and for others to experience those last few days as a high school student. You took a look around and tried to look for anything pointing you towards the gym. Since you've never been here you didn't know where to go and people weren't that focused to notice someone looking lost. You casually walked through the school and STILL haven't found the gym. Alright time to ask for help...

After being rejected by a group of (rude ass) girls saying a first year should have memorized the campus already, you tried a boy who was carrying a bunch of posters, he was also no help since he ended up asking YOU where the resource room was. What is with these kids? Why is this school weird?

You try your luck one more time when you see a guy turn the corner just in front of you. He stood out to you for three different reasons. The first thing you noticed was his height (then again as someone who stood at 152 cm (5'0) everyone seemed tall). So far no one in this school seemed as tall as him. His hair was the second thing, it was black but styled in a peculiar way. The last thing was how he wasn't wearing the school's uniform. Instead he was wearing a red jersey and shorts. BINGO! He looks like he came from the gym.

You finally caught up to him, damn his long legs, "Umm excuse me?" You said tapping his shoulder.

He turned around.

Yup he's tall, very tall and you had to admit handsome.

"Can you tell me where the gym is?" You said in a soft tone.

"Sure its--"

You wonder why he stopped talking and just stared at you. You added one more thing to that list, his eyes could have been enough to capture your attention from the start. They were such a beautiful hazel color...hello snap out of it, "Ahh...sorry I didn’t catch that, which way?" You smile and awkwardly wait for him to respond.

"Its you." He said.

"I'm sorry?" Confusion...yeah that’s the right emotion to give.

His expression suddenly turned into a smile, “I didn’t think you’d find me this fast. I’m quite shocked but flattered you’d go to such lengths.” he said as he held on hand on his chest.

This school is absolutely full of weird people.

“You know what, nevermind. I’ll find a map.” You turn away to walk away.

“So I can keep your key chain then?” He calmly says.

You turned back to him,”Excuse me?”

"Isn’t that why you’re here?” His eyebrow was raised.

“How do you--? Why is it--”, then it clicked, “Are you the guy from the bus stop?”

He smiled, “Ahh now she remembers me. My foot is find by the way.”

In a shot of sudden joy but general confusion, without thinking you grabbed his arm, “YOU HAVE MY KEY CHAIN!?”

“Kuroo?” The moment is cut short when you get interrupted by a boy with blonde hair and black roots walking towards you.

“Coach Nekomata said to bring the files to the meeting room when you get them.” The boy said.

“Kenma give me a sec, okay?” Kuroo said.

Coach? AHH SHOOT! I almost forgot! You let go of Kuroo’s arm and turn towards the boy named Kenma, “Do you know my grandfather, he told me to bring him these files.” you pull out the files from your bag and hand it to him.

“Ohh I’m not the one delivering them to him... he is.” Kenma nonchalantly said pointing back to Kuroo.

“Okay wait...” You stop to gather your thoughts on this current situation. What the heck is going on? How do you they know grandpa? Why is he receiving these files? And how did he end up with my key chain?

“I’m so confused right now.” You frustratingly said throwing your hands out. “Introductions now.” you turn to Kuroo.

His smile was different this time, it wasn’t one like earlier. Instead he seemed to find this whole thing funny. How annoying.

“My name is Kuroo Tetsuro. His name is Kenma. I was asked by our coach to receive his files from someone named Miku...something. Although from what I see those are the files I need but you were definitely not the person I expected.” He smiled and gestured his hand, waiting for your introduction.

“My name is Mikasuki Kurakawa and my grandfather asked me to drop files to him. But he never told me to expect someone and let alone it would be you of all people.” you smiled sarcastically.

“What a small world. The girl who ran me over with her luggage happens to be the granddaughter of our coach.” Kuroo said taking the files.

“I’m very sorry about that.” You shyly said remembering the incident. So embarrassing.

“Kenma can you go ahead and tell the guys I’ll be late. I’ll take Mikasuki-chan to coach. We seem to have a lot to talk about.” Kuroo said smiling as he guided you in the direction away from his friend.

DETAILS OF REGINA’S LIFE AFTER HER TRANSITION + TIDBITS.

she successfully transitioned at the age of thirteen (just before her freshmen year of high school) (although, this journey is still ongoing; as she socially transitioned at eight years old) after years of dysphoria and anxiety on her plate, with the assistance of her parents paying for her feminising hormone therapy (estrogen) which she has been taking in the form of injections.

she hasn’t gone through with srs (sex reassignment surgery) as she hasn’t experienced dysphoria relating to genitalia, only with other aspects of her body (such as her lack of curves, her chest area, her voice. . . though, dysphoria is more complicated to explain. an example comes to mind as wearing your right shoe on your left foot and your left shoe on your right foot but never taking them off which is very uncomfortable). she’s also unfortunately had to adapt with finding undergarments + lingerie that at least can adapt to her body and cater to trans women -- that or she makes her own undergarments by hand.

(yes, she has learned to make her own undergarments by hand as she feels this is a more affordable and easier alternative for herself; even though from time to time she does go to the store to buy the necessities).

during her time on hormones, she has noted (especially 4-8 months being on estrogen a while back after her libido starts to redevelop), she has noted orgasms move from being centric around the genital area to a whole body experience, and that she has developed more sensitive skin and erogenous zones.

even after hormones (and years later), her penis still functions as normal (though. she just cannot produce sperm -- but before she has gone through with hormones, she has frozen some sperm in the off chance she’d want to start a family of her own one day (trust her, she definitely would). and it has take her time to adjust to her body and the effects of estrogen. (to also note that when having had taken hormone therapy / estrogen, trans women’s penises are different than men’s -- the skin down there becomes softer and fuller, like the vulva in a sense).

her body type is rather athletic and slim (also thanks to the fact she is six foot one in height) but she’s got curves on her thanks to fat re-distribution during her hormone therapy. they aren’t as defined as she’d like them to be considering her figure but in tight fitting clothes, they are more obvious to the eyes. (hence why she wears a lot of tight fitting shirts whenever she so pleases).

her mom, despite their distant relationship at times. . . has helped to grow and adapt once she felt more comfortable and prepared. (she has also even lectured her on other things such as birth control, condoms, pregnancy, the after morning pill and even pregnancy so she’s prepared for any situations should they arise whenever she starts dating another girl).

regina legally changed her name to ‘regina dione mantle’ successfully, naming herself after her favourite aunt, régine, and shifting her middle name to dione, a titan who was the mother of aphrodite in the Iliad. she still goes by regina dione mantle-kang in legal documents (having her mother and her father’s surnames hyphened), but for shortening purposes *and to make her life more easier to fetch more opportunities; knowing her korean surname would unfortunately make it difficult for job / college prospects down the line thanks to inherent biases in society* . . . she goes by regina mantle to make life for easier to navigate for herself.

she often goes by reg or rei in terms of nicknames. . . she’s comfortable with either (but she allows certain people to call her rei as she feels it’s a special kind of name for herself few are given the privilege to share).

regina has taken a while to adjust to wearing bras with wires, having a preference for sports bras as they’re easier to wear and to take off; as she does athletics (mostly football + basketball when basketball season comes around) and bralettes + wireless bras. though she dislikes bras with wires as they slightly dig into her skin and cause discomfort.
