okay maybe this is so obvious but i think the thing that is so excruciating for me about this show is the inevitability of the story. i've already seen it twice and i'm watching it for the third time and i know that bad things are going to happen to the characters and i don't want them to but they have already happened and they will happen again because the story has already happened. it's already done. it's like i'm watching them in a time loop and wishing for a different outcome and it's never going to *be* different for them they're always going to have to go through this. it's always going to end the same. i'm in the labyrinth.
i love stories i love to get lost in characters in books and tv shows and podcasts i love to decide to be taken through a series of feelings and then move through them i love to watch things unfold and then go back to the start and watch them unfold again and everything has a deeper resonance this time because you know what's going to happen next
#the knowing what's going to happen next is both good and bad. it is what's killing me and also somewhat bolstering me!#to be clear the time loop is not literal i have created it by rewatching the same show over and over across several years.#and the show is 'something in the rain' (2018 korean drama)#Also my new habit is to read a new book twice. i'm always so impatient to Know What Happens so i fly through it the first time to#get to the end and then go back to the start and read it slowly the next time. it's so fun. I LOVE STORIES!!!!!!!#also. it is both so unpleasant and so fun rewatching this. i'm hating it i'm loving it but now that i've realised the time loop thing i#think i feel a fraction less angst and a bit more chill :P

My Mister | S1 E2
A misunderstanding causes Dong-hoon to be interrogated for bribery. Lee Ji-an is the only witness, but she has no interest in helping him out.
------- 8:25 pm | 10/24/2024
Thoughts on S1 E2:
When one is in a situation where they have to choose between putting food on the table or their conscience, can you really blame them if they choose not to starve? Someone who hasn't been in a difficult situation would probably say that's it's an easy query to answer. I know and I understand, especially as someone who's been utterly idealistic. But I guess now I know better. This is not to say that people who are facing challenges would always opt to save themselves—but what does it really mean to save oneself? Choosing your conscience also saves you from bad karma, or simply to choose to live with morals even if it means not living an easy life. At least you can look anyone in the eye with head held high knowing you did no one any wrong.
------- 8:40 pm | 10/24/2024
My Mister | S1 E3
Ji-an plants a bug in Park Dong-un's office. Unaware of who she's working for, Dong-hoon agrees to buy her dinner for a month.
------- 11:53 pm | 10/24/2024
Thoughts on S1 E3:
Would you ever take a job that's way below what other people may expect you to have? They said when life gives you lemons, make lemonade but is it really that easy? Maybe it does get easy when there's no way around it, when you don't have a choice but to take what is available no matter how embarrassing it could be. If it pays the bills, lets you eat, gives you a roof above your head then it could be enough—enough to at least keep you breathing. And then the embarrassment fades... to hell what others may think.

Memories of the Alhambra: A Review
It could have been a memorable masterpiece that breakthroughs the common kdrama’s stereotypes. It could have been a drama to reminisce years from now given its magnificent cinematography and a Hyun Bin within. Instead, the drama managed to fail the expectations of its avid viewers and left everyone dumbfounded towards the stupid ambiguous conflict resolution. If you ask me the reason I wanted to…

An Incomplete History of Zhang Luyi & Chen Minghao's Friendship
Do you like Pangxie's chemistry in Tibetan Sea Flower? Do you feel that they are really old friends? Besides the fact that Zhang Luyi and Chen Minghao are very good actors, they are indeed old friends, and the earliest record that I can find of them working together dates back to 2006. However, CMH was in the 1996 class of acting at the The Central Academy of Drama, while ZLY was in the 1999 class of directing at the same university, so I figured they definitely got to know each other before 2006. So more or less, on Chinese social media, people usually assume that they've been friends for almost 20 years.
Before I dig into the history, I want to mention that some Pangxie scenes are actually improvised by ZLY and CMH on set. CHM has played Pangzi several times, and is insanely good at it, so he knows about Pangzi and the character dynamics inside out. While ZLY is new to the DMBJ universe, he did read all the DMBJ novels before the filming of Tibetan Sea Flower, so he has very insightful understanding of the characters and relationship dynamics as well.
For example, according to an interview of the director, this iconic & funny "拜年/new year's greeting" scene in episode 6 was improvised, and the director just decided to keep it in the final cut. In a BTS footage, Pangxie putting peanuts on Feng's very wrinkled test paper in episode 9 was also shown to be something that ZLY and CMH came up with during rehearsing.
The History
In the first paragraph, I mentioned that they went to the same undergraduate university. Another thing that connects them even more is that they went to the same graduate school - Peking University's School of Arts, and both have the master's degree in arts. ZLY fans sometimes just endearingly call CMH “师哥/shige" because of all of this.
In 2006, ZLY and CMH were in the stage play 琥珀/Amber. Here are some rare photos of 26-year old ZLY and 31 year old CMH LOL:
Both of them continued to do a lot of theatre works, some tv/film roles, and also attended grad school in the coming years. ZLY got his breakthrough leading role in 2014, and started to lead in shows/films.
In 2016, ZLY and South Korean actor Jang Hyuk starred in the drama 新海/New Sea, and CMH was seen sharing the following scene with ZLY. Unfortunately, due to China's ban on South Korean entertainment content in the same year, this drama will probably never see the light of day.
Then, I think some of you already know this, in late 2016, CMH directed the stage play Big D, and ZLY was his lead actor in this play. According to different news articles, the tickets of this play were sold out in either 5, 7, or 8 minutes (LOL no idea why there were such discrepancies, but they were sold out within 10 minutes for sure).
In 2018, they appeared in The Sound which is a very good variety show about dubbing. Celebrities were asked to dub domestic and international shows/films (sometimes in both Chinese and English) to show case their voice acting skills and language skills. What's really funny is that ZLY is one of the typical introverts who can be a clown when he's surrounded by people he's familiar with, but once you put him in an unfamiliar environment, he gets nervous and shy. So after he and CMH entered the room together, he just naturally and subconsciously stood right beside CMH, the one he was most comfortable with, even though he was supposed to team up with another actress (who was off screen). He got really confused for a minute when all the other guests and hosts were questioning why he didn't stand beside his teammate LOL.
Both ZLY and CMH are really very low key actors in c-ent, so you don't see them in public events a lot. The last time that they were spotted chatting in public was during the premiere of the movie Under the Light last September.
Anyways, thanks for reading! I hope this can bring some insight into their friendship. You can tell they are just so comfortable with each other, and shooting Tibetan Sea Flower seemed to be such a fun experience for them. I hope they get to work together again soon in the future!
Edit: if you noticed my tags and saw the reply of someone requesting to know why ZLY was picked as Wu Xie: I made a long post here.
#lol i dont like making long txt posts bc it takes even longer time than a long gifset 😅🙃#if anyone's curious why zly is picked for wu xie or his tsf interview please let me know#tibetan sea flower#adventure behind the bronze door#dmbj#cdrama#chinese drama#daomu biji#藏海花#the lost tomb#zhang luyi#edward zhang#wu xie#chen minghao#wang pangzi#pangxie#cactor#kunsposts

Pride Petty Watch
Long story short, I owe the BL gods, so I'll be watching TWO series from my Petty List during the month of June. This list includes shows I haven't watched for purely petty reasons, so I'm asking the crowd to pick the two shows I will watch from all the MAME series, some censored Chinese bromances, a few sexual tension-filled Korean bromances, and one wild card.
I'm making my first ever poll, so whichever two series get the highest numbers will be the two I watch. And for all the kind people in the crowd, this is not the time to think about me. Pick your favorite. And for all the people who I annoy on the daily with my wild ass takes that piss you off, pick TharnType. But there is a possibility of a secret thirteenth option that would hurt me much worse . . .
The petty ass reasons are below the poll.
Disclaimer: If you're going to read the petty ass reasons, I need you to understand these are PETTY ASS REASONS, so don't try to hit me with 2,000 words about why me not watching censored bromances is a problem or why me not liking your fave hurts your feelings. Nah. Pick a show!
MAME
Love By Chance
This show came out at the end of 2018, and I watched the first episode, maybe first two, and thought it was boring. Then, in 2019, I saw a GIF of the locker scene, so I recommitted. I made it past the first episode just when the PerthSaint drama started spilling out everywhere, so I chucked the deuces and haven't returned since.
TharnType
For some reason, I couldn't find the first episode when it aired. Then, I found out how the first episode ended. Then, I found out about Type's past. Then, I just kept finding out more awful stuff until eventually the MewGulf shit finally hit the fan, and I was still reeling from the PerthSaint drama (and the emerging ZeeSaint chaos). At this point, I've built this show up so much that I'm afraid to see what it is actually about.
Don't Say No
A story of another GIF of a locker room scene sucking me in! After the first two MAME pairs blew up, I believed her shows were cursed, so I opted out of watching this one even though I thought it would be the one to vibe with me the most. But the biggest reason was because the main characters came from TharnType, so I felt like I would have to watch TharnType to understand this show, which was a big hell nah.
Love in the Air
I watched this through mutuals on my dash, so I feel like I did watch it. It is also the highest rated MAME series, so I had faith in it. However, when I found out about Sky's past, TharnType's ghost popped back up, and I realized this demon of a show is gonna haunt me in every MAME series.
The Wedding Plan
Y'all hated one of the leads so much while it was airing that I now hate him, and I don't think I can let that go, so I'm coming in with pre-hate and TharnType's ghost, but on top of that, some of y'all said it was boring. But what is boring in a MAME series? Consent? Not kidnapping someone? I never got answers, so I'm very conflicted about this show.
Censored Chinese
The Untamed
It's color coded, but FIFTY FUCKING EPISODES! What is this shit? Grey's Anatomy? The fuck! Second, once China pulled Addicted, I was holding grudges for life because it crossed from entertainment censorship into real-world oppression, so I could not bring myself to support media from a country that openly discriminates against the queers when I live in America where our highest court is just one Supreme Court Justice away from making us all live in the damn Mojo Dojo Casa House.
Word of Honor
It's color coded, but THIRTY-SIX FUCKING EPISODES! What is this shit? Supernatural?! The fuck! Second, I don't know the difference between this and The Untamed. Both are color-coded, one of them has a lot of uncles (?), one of them has awful facial hair, and they all have pretty outfits. Every time someone makes a reference about these shows, I just nod the same way I do when people mention Star Wars because none of it makes sense.
Guardian
I spent two years believing Killer and Healer was Guardian. I haven't watched either, but I thought they were the same show. Honestly, if this show wins, I might just watch Killer and Healer because I will forget they are not the same show. Don't they both solve cases? And because it's China, past lives must be involved, no? I'm looking at their MDLs as I write this, and I'm still not convinced they are different.
Stay with Me
It's color coded, but I know how it ends, and word on the street is that IS the ending since a second season seems unlikely. China couldn't just let me be hurt over Addicted, the original. No. Gotta hurt me again with Addicted, the remake. Rude af.
The Spirealm
First off, SEVENTY-EIGHT FUCKING EPISODES! What is this shit? Law & Order: SVU?! The fuck! I know how this ends, and it ain't happy! I don't care how people are trying to spin it, so to sit through SEVENTY-EIGHT DAMN EPISODES just for that ending already has me irate. And don't try telling me Viki combined episodes so it's only thirty-four. That's still a lot. However, everybody who has watched it says it's phenomenal, so is the pain worth it or are these people all lying so they convince themselves it was worth it?
Korean Bromance
Beyond Evil
With most Korean dramas, I feel like I missing something important. Like some part of the story does not click with me and I stay lost for the rest of the show. I suck it up for the queers, but the not-queers-but-it-is-queer shows . . . nah, and especially one about cops . . . (-_-). Also, The Worst of Evil just showed, and it was another reminder that I need these cops to quit their jobs and just screw each other. Embrace "Be Gay. Do Crime"
The Devil Judge
I know enough about Kpop to know GOT7 would not let one of its members kiss a man in this show. I looked at those GIFs of Jeff Satur and Jackson Wang on their show knowing damn well that if Wang got too close to Satur, an entire management team would have ascended from hell and kidnapped both of them, so the promo for this show was so wild because it felt queerbait-adjacent, and I was salty about it.
WILD CARD!
This option will be automatically unlocked IF this stupid little poll gets 216 votes, so I have high hopes this will not happen since I ain't that popular and I hate this wild card which is . . .
SOTUS
This show is my original TharnType. It came out in 2016. I watched it live. I watched the sequel. I remember neither. New was in it? Off was in it?! WHAT?! I have no memory of this show except Krist wiping his mouth, and I have carried that with me for eight damn years. I loved Be My Favorite, so I thought I moved past whatever strange grudge I was holding against this man who doesn't know I exist nor care, but then I saw that trailer for The Ex-Morning, and unlike Elsa, I can't let this shit go, so I'm willing to play Jumanji and go back into the jungle to finish this once and all.
So what it's gonna be, mi gente. Which demons am I facing for Pride and what shows do I get to stay petty about? Help me decide!
#Pride Petty Watch#it's time#help me decide which shows I'm watching#may the best demon win!#a promise is a promise#my blessings came quick#so I will not upset the BL Gods#I must pay them what I owe them#it is time

Hello!
I absolutely love your edits and gifs. I was thinking about making edits/gifs too but I'm not sure where to start : ( Would you be able to share some resources? Or any tips you have for someone that's just starting out? I'm not even sure where to download the videos from :/
Thank you in advance!
hello!! omg thank you so much for liking my gifs 🥹🫶🫶
Of course! In this post I'll share some tips that I think are helpful when making gifs, specially from asian dramas (mostly chinese and korean)!
Where to download k/cdrama videos?
dramaday (korean media only)
mkvdrama (korean, chinese, japanese, thai etc)
avistaz.to (they have the most complete catalog of asian dramas but you can only have access to the files if you register and they open for registration only every now and then so if you want to join, you have to have a invite or wait till they open)
2. Where to make gifs?
Mostly, the gifs on this website are done using Adobe Photoshop but I think for the past few years there is a lot of users who use Photopea which is an online (and free) version of photoshop.
3. How to make gifs?
Well, I think there's a some ways of making gifs but the 2 most common are through screencapping and using vapoursynth. Before I knew how to use and install vapoursynth I used the screencap method a LOT so I totally recommend you to begin giffing using the screencap method before you try other ways of giffing. Also, with this method, you can use on both Photoshop and Photopea.
In this gif tutorial made by @kylos you can learn how to install the program mpv to take screencaps and how to make gifs using the captures.
There's this complete guide on how to gif made by @cillianmurphy that is very helpful.
Also, this comprehensive giffing tutorial by @redbelles is great!
But if you want to know how to gif using vapoursynth (if you are an MAC user), i totally recommend this how to install post and COMPREHENSIVE GIFFING TUTORIAL (vapoursynth + ps cc 2018) post, both from my beloved @dingyuxi 🫶
If you don't have Photoshop and want to make gifs using Photopea, I think this and this tutorials will be great for you.
4. How to color?
Coloring gifs is something very personal to each gifmaker but if you want to know how to start doing it, i recommend you these tutorials:
becca’s mega coloring tutorial by @nataliescatorccio
coloring tutorial by @magnusedom
simple gif colouring for beginners by @kinnbig (specially focused on east & south east asian skin tones)
Finally, I recommend you looking at the resource directory from @usergif because they have a collection of tutorials and resources that are very handy when making gifs!
If you have any particular question from how I gif, I will gladly answer!

Confused Rant
So I am just going to put this out there, I am on the older side of fans (mid-20s), so this might be a bit of a boomer complaint. I have been watching kdramas since I was in middle school and engaging in some way. However, there is a recent complaint (in western viewers, I don't understand Korean) that I have never seen before, and I find incredibly unusual.
I have been recently see people complaining about kdramas being sad. Mostly on Twitter, here, and Tiktok (idk whats happening on insta). This complaint mainly talking about dramas like Queen of Tears, Lovely Runner, and most recently Love Next Door. Which, yeah they're very emotional kdramas. Queen of Tears is a straight up melodrama, but even in romcoms kdramas tend to mix in emotional sad points.
Isn't that why you watch them? I remember, a college professor in 2018 teaching a lesson on catharsis. And he talked about kdramas, he stated, that the K in kdrama stands for catharsis. 'Cause you can find the entire range of human emotion in a single drama.
So I find this a bit strange. People always put 2016-2017 as the peak of kdramas, but they were also sad then too. Uncontrollably Fond, came out in 2016. Descendants of the Sun, Goblin, Legend of the Blue sea also came out. These were sad, emotional, they made people cry and laugh. Even the more light hearted dramas like Weightlifting Fairy (2016) or Strong Woman Bong Soon (2017), had a lot of emotional and sad moments. It was never unusual to cry during a drama. They were know for their melodramas, and strong emotions.
I am just kind of confused why people are begging for old kdramas, while complaining about the new ones being too sad. Like any old kdrama is going to be sad, even in nonsensical ways. Like I have you seen Autumn in Your Heart (2004) or even Princess Hours (2006) has emotional moments.
Why are complaining about long standing Korean drama tropes and forms while watching them. There is other tv in this world. I'm just confused.
Also on the note of Queen of Tears: I don't understand why people are complaining that a Melodrama is sad and not a romcom. Like it has Kim Soohyun, he is like the king of melo. Why would this be a romcom?
I have so many more thoughts, but I would like to hear what other people think. I know I am being like a boomer, I am just confused.
