I've been working on this for way too long after our trip to Korea this summer. I was born there, studied abroad at Yonsei University in Seoul in 2001, and have been back many times and am always inspired but never do anything with that inspiration until this time. I wanted to show the mix of traditional and modern. Jeonmo paper hats and janggu drums with black combat boots and double dutch braids. We played yut nori 윷놀이 (game with 4 wooden sticks you toss in there air like dice) with my in laws. I got my first tattoo there this summer amidst the rising tattoo culture in Seoul (I first got my stone name stamp 도장 in hangul the Korean alphabet and then a tattoo of that). The mountains depicted are from Irworobongdo, a folding screen painting featuring the 5 famous peaks of Korea (4 are in South Korea) and the sun and the moon and was always behind the king's throne during the Joseon era. We didn't hike any of the 5 famous peaks but we did hike beautiful Chiaksan to Seryeom falls, and drank lots of soju from modern green bottles and kimchi from onggi 옹기 clay pots. We rode the high speed KTX Eum train at 260km/h from Seoul to Wonju. We saw ocean waves at Gangmun beach and modern hanbok 한복 dresses (this one has short sleeves and a defined waist) worn around Gyeongbokgung 경복궁 royal palace in Seoul. Koreans adorn the shrines, temples, and hermitages with colorful dancheong 단청 design motifs. And of course we saw a lot of the taegeukgi 태극기, the South Korean flag with the red and blue 태극 swirl and 4 black trigrams in the corners. Everything I just mentioned is in this poster and if you haven't already, go visit Korea, especially since the won is so weak and currencies like the US dollar can buy so much there. And finally, heres the Vogue travel cover from 1918 that was my inspiration which oozes way more style and dynamism than I could ever hope for. Why can't we have covers like this anymore? my favourite thing abt tumblr mass-finding out about the origins of the “poor little meow meow” phrase is a couple of people in the tags, who listen to things like, i assume, punk or rap, going “oh so THIS is what people got so emotional over? wow they wouldn’t last a day over here” or “ah, this, yeah a couple of guys from our side did it too”. refreshing

Friendly Marriage.JJK Drabble 2

Synopsis: You accompany your best friend for his first tattoo because, well, he can't take an important step in his life without you.

"Precious and Inked" drabble from Friendly Marriage (this takes place before the main story)

You clearly remember when Jungkook's appeal for tattoos appeared. You were six and it was summer. It was a hot day, almost unbreathable which spurred your parents to drive to the beach, willing to enjoy the faint breeze from the sea.

Obviously, you weren't the only ones seeking to cool down and the beach was full. But as your parents were settling your stuff, Jungkook grabbed your hand and urged you to go near the salty water to play with the wet sand. It's when your best friend saw him. The man was about twenty year old and he had a confidence that made people look at him with curiosity — or envy. Moreover, his black swimsuit allowed the crowd to have a full view on his numerous tattoos, something that was quite rare to witness in Korea at the time. His torso, arms and back had some ink patterns here and there, without a real coherence but the whole was harmonious.

Jungkook's doe eyes grew bigger than normal and a whispered 'wow' escaped his lips. It wasn't too hard to notice his admiration and this fact was confirmed by the uncountable times he talked to you about 'the cool drawings' the following days. 

Annoyed by his sudden lack of attention to your sand construction, you slammed his arm and yelled at him to focus.

And thirteen years later, here you are.

You should have known your best friend enough to know that he would, one day, get a tattoo on his own. Somewhat you hoped he'd wait a little longer as an unconscious fear — of this decoration on his body changing his personality — has been growing bigger and bigger even since he shared the date of his appointment.

"You know that your mom is going to kill you, right?"

Your remark provokes a laugh from your best friend. You know that there is no point in trying to convince him right now, as Jungkook has been bawling about getting a tattoo for months, strategically waiting for his nineteenth birthday to finally put ink on his skin. It's not that you don't think he hasn't thought seriously about it but you know him: sometimes, he tends to make decision too quickly and you're afraid he'll regret.

"With the look in your eyes, I feel like it's you who's going to kill me" He teases you, his wide bunny smile on his adorable face

You sigh as you don't understand how chill he is about such a big commitment while you, a mere witness, are stressing. A lot.

"Kook"

"I know, I know" He reassures you — just like he is able to read your mind — and wraps his arm around your shoulders "I swear I'm not going to change my mind. And it's just a tiny tattoo, I'll stop after that"

You both know that he won't — and the future will give you right. You throw him a doubtful glance but how can you resist his cute pout? You cannot. And Jungkook knows it way too well.

You don't have time to argue as the tattoo artist steps in the small and dark room you've been waiting. He calls out your best friend's name and a single look at him tells you how excited he is. Just to see him as happy makes all your worries vanish and in one second, you don't care if Jungkook decides to cover his whole body with black ink if it means he'll get to smile like that.

"You wanna come with me?" He offers right before entering the room at the back

You hesitate but finally accept in case Jungkook would like to squeeze your hand if the pain is too much. Yet, you regret when you move the black curtain away and discover a dark room filled with a chair similar to the one in medical centers, a small stool with wheels and a table full of small cup of inks — black, blue, red, pink and every other colors. The walls are covered with sketches and the skull ones are terrifying, sending shivers down your spine.

"You want one?" The tattoo artist asks you when he notices you are looking at his art pieces

You have no problem admitting his talent, yet you absolutely don't want a skull on your skin! You are quick to shake your head and take place next to your best friend who has taken off his shirt. You are trying your best not to look at his defined torso, not that you haven't seen it already anyway given your numerous afternoons at the beach but Jungkook has been hitting the gym very diligently lately and well... he is hot — and this is a thought that you should absolutely not have about your best friend so you choose to focus on the material the tattoo artist is preparing.

Jungkook and the tattoo artist talk for a while, trying to find the right spot and size for the tattoo and they finally settle for the junction between the shoulder and the biceps. With that, Jungkook is pleased to lay down.

"Are you okay?" He asks and you suddenly feel stupid: you should be the one asking

"Are you?" You reply

"Yep!" He exclaims, offering you one of his reassuring smiles

The tattoo artist informs your best friend that he is going to start and the buzz sound of the machine fills the room. You are watching with attention his movements, trying to detect any unusual thing — just like you know anything about tattoos. You just want to take care of Jungkook, he is your best friend, that's normal.

Jungkook, on the other hand, doesn't seem to care at all about the needle in his skin. He is looking at you with an amused smile, especially when you wince as the tattoo artist stretches out a spot to apply more ink.

"Can I hold your hand?" Jungkook asks you

You immediately squeeze his fingers, worried that he is in pain.

"Does it hurt a lot?" You can't help but question

"Yes"

Your heart tightens in your chest. However, Jungkook is not in pain at all — he only feels a mere tickling on his skin. He can't even explain why he lied. He simply noticed that he has looked for any opportunity to hold your hand lately. Maybe it's just because he is stressed about leaving Busan to head to the capital with you, afraid that something will change between you two, that you won't be as close as before even if you attend the same university.

You bring Jungkook out of his thoughts when you gently pat his head, trying to soothe the imaginary pain away.

"I swear I won't tell anyone if you cry" You whisper to him, deadly serious

If Jungkook didn't want to expose his lie, he would have scoffed to that. Instead, he nods and thanks you. Actually, his gratitude is real: he does feel lucky to have you by his side. He knows that you are always here for him, even when he is in trouble. And most importantly, you are always here when he faces a new important step in his life.

You stay for a few hours next to him, holding his hand, caressing his black silky hair from time to time when you notice that the tattoo artist insists on one particular spot. What you don't notice is that your best friend has not once looked at the tattoo artist: his eyes were left on you. He can't explain — neither does he want to. He just wants to appreciate your presence next to him while he is taking such a big decision as marking his skin for life.

Turning off the machine, the tattoo artist states that he is done and he invites Jungkook to look at the artwork in the mirror. At this moment you realize that you were so focused on your best friend's well being that you didn't really look at the tattoo itself.

You try to tilt your head, contorting your upper body to have a peak too but Jungkook's body is way too imposing for that. It's only when Jungkook says that he is very satisfied and turns around that you finally get to see the freshly made tattoo and your eyes grow big.

"Kook" You whisper, breathless

"You like it?"

Jungkook notices that he really, really wishes that you do. Growing up, he's learned not to bother about people's opinions but you, it's not the same. It's not that he is seeking for your approval but he knows that he is disappointed with himself when he disappoints you. Equally, he tends to like something more if you like it too. And for this tattoo, his first tattoo, he truly hopes that you like it as it is very important for him.

"It's... stunning!" You say after trying to find the right word but you are too moved for that

The ink piece is very delicate, objectively very beautiful but what touches you so much is the pattern: a crane. The top of its head is red, just like the one saw with Jungkook when you were young. It is one of your most previous memories. The winter of your five years old, your and Jungkook's parents took you to the mountains. It was the first time you saw snow and you were so excited that you couldn't sleep the first night. You spent hours looking through the window, watching the tiny snowflakes falling from the sky. At some point, a huge white bird appeared and landed close to the window. You wanted to wake up your parents so they could see but you were afraid to make too much noise and scare the bird away. And when you turned your head to spot anyone with whom you could share the show, Jungkook was there, all sleepy, rubbing his eyes with his tiny fists. You guested that he wanted to go the bathroom and you whispered-yelled his name, urging him to join you but in silence. Your best friend was amazed, just like you. His black doe eyes were so wide and shiny that you could almost see the reflection of the crane in them and, for the first time, you found your best friend cuter than all the other boys you knew. You watched the crane together, elbows touching each other's, until it flew away. The next day, you told the story to your parents but they didn't believe you, stressing that cranes only come rarely to Korea and even less in winter. Since then, the crane was like a secret between Jungkook and you, a precious, almost intimate moment you two shared together outside the rest of the world.

"I don't even know what to say, Kook, it's just... perfect" You add with tears in your eyes and reaching out to squeeze his hand to share your gratefulness to have immortalized this ephemeral and secret instant

"I think it was the most magical moment of my life, and it was with you. It's always with you, Y/N" Jungkook says with a voice thick of emotion "Thank you for coming with me today"

Taking a cold shower after having an intense leg day plus cardio at the gym hits so different. I feel like a brand new person after getting out of my bathroom. drop everything i have with my hands, i swiftly hit the green button, eagerly to see and hear his voice. we’re mostly texting these days because of having different time zones and working schedules to follow. Oftentimes when he’s free and wants to facetime me, I would be either at work or sleeping and vice versa.

“hi pretty!!” he cheerfully greeted me as my phone screen revealed his cute sleepy face. As usual, he’s wearing one of the eight Supreme beanies i got for him when I was in Tokyo. [side story: i was just strolling in the streets of Harajuku when i found this one clothing store that has a lot of stuffs i know jungkook would like and that’s when i bought those comfy beanies along with other nice things]^_^

“helloo, my ggukie can't sleep?” i asked while finding something i can lean my phone on so that i can continue doing my makeup

“응.. i'm trying to sleep but can’t.“ he simply explained as he placed his phone on the side of his bed, moving his naked body to a more comfortable lying position. His arm filled with cool, artistic tattoos is out and on sight, while his other arm were covered with the thick white comforter, so as his entire body.

“What's been going on in your mind?” I know that something is bothering him at times like this. i get that having the job and lifestyle he has, isn’t merely easy. the pressure, the media, the fans, everything. But although he deals with all these things, I never once heard him complain about them because he knows that that’s what he signed up for the day he chose to pursue being an idol.

“Just been stressed lately with rehearsals and I'm still jet lagged, maybe I have insomnia? ‘m not sure but it’s driving me crazy. now i get what u mean when u say ur body is tired and ready to sleep but ur mind isn’t.” he further describes how he feels. The worry and anxiety is written in his facial expression.

“my poor kookie you could’ve call me earlier and i would help you to fall asleep”

“but you were at the gym. i know you like blasting reggaeton music while working out.” he pouty responds. well, in his defense he’s right. I love that he remembers small details about me but nothing can top my love for him.

“i do that but I prefer listening to my boyfriend’s angelic voice while working out so that i’ll have motivation to do more reps.” replied to him right off the bat. realistically i meant what i said. I usually don’t like talking to people when doing workouts but he is an exception.

I received no words but a soft laugh. He must have thought I was kidding. I took a glance at him before I put lipgloss on[his favorite shade].

i can see him covering the blush he has all over his face. i'm very glad to see him having relief.

‘’Where is my pretty girl up to? hmm?” he curiously asks as i put highlights as my last step to finish up the look

“just going to the club for Sakura’s birthday party, i'm running out of social energy almost every day because of work and parties but I can't miss this event” I explained as I headed over to my walk-in closet.

“hmm ‘kay tell her i said happy birthday. what are you gonna wear?”

“well i'm debating on wearing a black leather mini skirt with this asymmetrical black top and for shoes i have this black knee high boots or i just go with this simple black mini backless dress with these red bottoms high heels” i say as i show him all the clothes. he and I almost have the same taste in fashion. if we were to combine all of our clothes, they are pretty much all black. whenever it’s shoes, jackets, tops, pants, etc. this is why buying clothes for one another isn’t difficult for us.

“What did I tell you about mini skirts bb?” oh. i forgot that he allows me to wear mini skirts unless i’m with him since an incident happened when i was in the club and random guys were making me so uncomfortable by giving disguising lust looks and nastily commenting on my skirts. Although he and I know that no matter what a girl wears, guys in the clubs will act like animals regardless. He told me to not wear it because he’s controlling me but rather because he won’t be there to protect me if something happens.

“ok then the second choice it is” i confirmed, putting the first outfit choice back to where they belong.

“how about you wear that mini skirt when we go on a date? how’s that sound?” he suggests.

“ok then ggukie”

“dress in front of me?” he boyishly asks, using his deep alluring voice. He definitely knows what he’s doing. How can I say no to him?

After dressing, I proceeded to put on the Cartier necklace with his initials in it that he gifted to me when he first came to visit my penthouse in Chicago.

“still have my oversized leather jacket with you?” he inquire before he yawned

“yupp, why?” I curiously asked

“bring it with you please. i don’t want you getting cold in there” he softly requested. him and his simple gestures make me fall in love with him deeper.

“i will baby thank you”

“i love you ___, don’t look at other men” jk murmur jokingly. Well, I hope he said that in a humorous way for the reason that I assure him with my sincere words almost every hour.

“ I love you more gguk i’ll update you ok?” he just hums, waving his hands leisurely to say goodbye.

I AM STILL; INK-BOND

The documentary's rawness leads to an interesting discovery concerning the maknaes of K-Pop groups BTS & ATEEZ

Disney Plus recently released Jungkook's documentary 'I AM STILL', which follows the vocalist through the making of 'Golden' as well as his journey to becoming a soloist with international reach. Numerous clips have been going viral on social media platforms and most of them feature the producing genius behind his new voice, who just so happens to be his best friend, ATEEZ's maknae - Himari.

"This is my partner in crime, my talented producer, my best friend and our angel voiced vocalist...Himari." Jungkook introduced when she visited him on the set of '3D'. "We've been with each other for over 11 long years."

Most instances are simply them working long hours alongside one another, walking about cities during rare moments of free time or even Jungkook accompanying the vocalist to the airport, as Korea had heavy schedules waiting for her. However, it was not the sweet maknaes bonding nor being emotional that caught the most traction but rather them enjoying some short inactivity.

While the artists relaxed in the hotel pool wearing bathing suits more revealing than they would usually be allowed on camera, the young woman's high hairstyle allowed netizens to notice a tattoo at the back of her neck - running along to the near middle of her spine. Chinese characters forming the words 'until death' are written vertically, with a black traditional dragon in the midst of them, and while searching through the man's collection it was also found that he had an almost exact copy, with the only difference being that his own is white.

The widely agreed upon speculation is that the colors represent the other person through the Chinese philosophy of Yin and Yang energy - which are opposites that balance one another - as Himari aligns more with Yin whilst Jungkook aligns with Yang, which are opposite to what they have inked onto their bodies. The mythical creature represents many things but due to the possibility of them having a depiction of the other, it likely stands for protection in this case - to symbolize that they will watch over their counterpart 'until death'. It is also possible that it follows a Japanese legend stating that if a koi fish successfully climbs a waterfall, it would be rewarded by the gods through bring turned into a powerful dragon - which could have been used to show their strength of character and acknowledge the hardships that they have both been through.

The ink does not seem to hold the vibrancy of a recent tattoo which means it has likely been a few years since its original creation and although very few have come to doubt the reality of their incredibly close relationship, it likely erased any semblance of suspicion. We can only hope to see more of these two friends in the coming months.
