2023 is my year of growth and emotional prosperity!

I got this new journal off paper kooka in a B5 instead of my usual A5 and I think the size works a lot better for me.

I've finally got it all set up for the new year and January - this month's theme is Stardew Valley because I've been playing it a lot lately!

And I've set up a new reading log - my reading goal this year is 30 books!

Something I just remembered that was really funny during my playthrough of TotK was when I reached Faron and immediately started laughing because of the Kookaburra sounds.

Because I was hearing them in stereo, from the game, AND from outside the house 😂

I definitely don't live in a tropical region like Faron, more like the areas just surrounding the Gerudo desert (semi arid bushland, though near a river). I didn't think kookas could be found in the more tropical areas of Aus, though I wouldn't be surprised since they're very adaptable.

I suspect they thought they sounded like monkeys or maybe just that they were exotic so they put the sound in? I do remember being equal parts amused and delighted when I came across the moose in BotW, since it seemed like such a funny animal choice (disappointed I couldn't ride one though).

It just kinda tickles me that kookaburras are canon to the legend of Zelda now

I much prefer the size of this to the A5 ones I usually get, it's perfect for me! This one has 160gsm paper too - I haven't noticed any ink bleeding so far. It doesn't have an index like the leuchtturm but I don't mind because I think I prefer using tabs anyway.

Key Points grey highlighter

I've wanted a grey highlighter for ages, it matches with my pastels nicely. The shape of the tip is a bit different, you've got to hold it just right or it doesn't quite work properly but it's a decently cheap option.

Paw print paper cutter

I wish I'd bought one of these ages ago, it's so much more practical especially for things like Dutch door layouts and this one was too cute to pass up, and nice to hold.

Memo Me sticky memos

The colours are nice but I do wish they'd had an option for a range of different pastels instead of just single colour gradients. Also I'm not entirely sure it's sticky enough to hold up so we'll see how long they last.

Precise 0.2mm fineliner

I use a fountain pen for all my normal writing but it just doesn't work with a highlighter so this is great for writing calendar dates and other things that I know are likely to get highlighted later on. Plus the nib size is perfect for my tiny handwriting.

I adore birds and my last pet was a beautiful cockatiel baby so whenever I see anything with a tiel on it I simply MUST buy it. This one is so so cute!

I think I'd forgotten what loneliness felt like.

It doesn't hit me until now when I'm sitting here in Darwin and trying to sleep after spending the past 3-ish days in multiple different major cities, but I'm lonely.

I got maybe a half-hour of sleep, and then I woke up and went out on the balcony for a bit to have a smoke, and a beer, and I've missed the taste of VB. I've missed the smell of rainwater in the Top End, and the squawks of cockatoos in the mornings, and fresh meat pies, and Jatz, and golden gaytimes, and vegemite, and heading to the shops barefoot.

And back home? Oh.

I've missed the sounds of dingos, and the chitter of flying foxes, and feeling thunder crawl through my skin on every roll. I've missed the whistling kites and the smell of wattle--it's summertime down south, and the wet season here up north, and some of the wattle is blooming. I've missed the blue kookas and the sweetness of cluster figs and the trumpeting of brolgas and the crunch of waterlily stems, and the saltiness of croc meat, and playing two-up with my brother but hiding it from my boy because gambling is a bad influence.

Call me insane, but dare I say I've even missed the flies and mozzies, though there isn't many right now because of the wet.

But I also miss Misty. I miss Misty desperately. I woke up and panicked for a second and called out to her so she'd come to me, and then I remembered where I am, and that she isn't with me. And, iunno, but that made me really sad for a few minutes.

The beer's good though, and I get to watch the sunrise. But I can see clouds on the horizon, and lightning, so it looks like a storm will be rolling in by the time I have to be up and about. Hopefully it rolls in fast and gets gone faster and doesn't ground my flight.

Can't wait to be home.

But my brother rang my sat this morning! And he's bringing my boy with him to pick me up at the airport. :]
