Hey everyone! Animation Night is back~!

This week we'll be watching Nijiiro Hotaru: Eien no Natsu Yasumi (Rainbow Fireflies: The Eternal Summer Vacation).

This film is what happens when you are venerable animation studio Toei, and you hand director Konosuke Uda a novel, and say 'make a film to celebrate Toei's history. Take your time!' and he does.

Uda goes away and spends 3.5 years iterating and perfecting an all-traditional film, creating this wonderfully unique style that's loose and lively and really doesn't look like anything else. He pulls in legends like Shinya Ohira(!), he gets Hisashi Mori to bring these really cool minimalist designs, and he injects them with all sorts of life and movement, and eventually Mr Toei is like 'OK that's great you need to stop now and release it', and the result is something great.

So what's this film about? A boy named Yūta returns to a dam where his dad died, drawn by memories of catching beetles in the mountains. But uh oh, there's a storm! An old man saves Yūta from drowning, but somehow he is transported 30 years into the past, in the final summer of the village that was flooded when the dam was completed.

There, he's introduced to the lively people of this doomed village, including kids like the firefly-loving Saeko, to experience the transient pleasure of a rural summer in a place that will soon be washed away. Yeah, it's one o them mono no aware type of films.

I have dreams sometimes of konosuke Mori as my boyfriend before y’all attack me yes I ship myself with him even the books he with Luna just my au it’s a coping mechanism please understand. This time I got see him as see him as actual person as real dude no one I have ever seen before. He was so nice to me he was so loving. A other dream I was hanging out with @gigi-harakiri I was looking at game she likes but with Pokémon I wanted buy it for her. What all these dreams mean what are they telling me?
