I think part of what is so devasting to me about Boruto is simply the fact that the "villains" are just too strong.

The Naruto ending was very conclusive, meaning that in order for Boruto to have any significant conflict, they needed to reopen the ideas of Kaguya (the final boss). The issue I see with this is that the traditional ninja arts are just no longer relevant. You can't have taijutsu and kenjutsu specialists be successful in this time period because how are they going to do anything against a god? The Boruto universe has been forced into a corner where only high impact jutsus and other flashy techniques are of any use to shinobi. I miss the days of tactical fighting, of two opponents decking it out in a fist fight. This kinda disappeared in the war arc, but I think even more so in Boruto.

I know many people complain that Boruto is just about "aliens" now and many others counter by saying that Naruto wasn't about regular ninjas either, but I think they miss the point. Naruto was about ninja that could use magic. They were enhanced by it, but still often fell back on more fundamental shinobi practices. That doesn't happen in Boruto, they can't do that and it's a major flaw in my eyes.

It just feels like there is a complete lack of sincerity to the world. I think there are ways to have villains be truly bad people, but the Boruto execution is lacking. There is no sense of emotion. Characters don't necessarily need reason to be "evil," but I want some form of expression. Give me madness, give me hostility, given me irritation, give me obsession, give me grief, give me SOMETHING. I don't feel for the characters in any way. They seem hollow and it makes it hard to enjoy reading.

Konolog Mpreg pt.1

Log couldn’t believe it, he never thought he would end up bearing a child that he didn’t even know he could have. When Orochimaru told him about it, he wanted to curl up and die. He found out the same month Mitsuki Turned 13. What was worse was that it was December, and on the 15th of January would be his due date.

he had to believe it tho. The amount of signs started showing up on his body and behavior seemed abnormal. First was stretch marks, he had a muscular look but it disappeared because of the belly bump and the amount of things he ate. He had food cravings as well. Him and Mitsuki didn’t need to eat but because his unborn infant was half human, he needed it.

With his behavior, it was scary. He got angry easier, and if something didn’t go his way he’d either break down in tears or throw something. Normally smoking would calm him down but he couldn’t even do that! He had to thrift clothes that were big and long enough to cover damn near his whole body, the robe he normally wore still fit, but the baby bump made it look like it shrunk a bit.

The worse part was the amount of lactating he was doing!! He had to go through multiple shirts a day and had to start wearing patches so it could stop, but his chest would become sore and more plump which was hell to go through.

“Log? You still here?”

Log was in the living room, looking blankly at the floor, but the second he turned to the sarutobi, his eyes began to water, not of sadness, but anger and resentment. He did this to him! Without not even a moment to think, he got up and slapped as hard as he could into konohamarus chest, but to his surprise it did not good, so he did it repeatedly.

“You’re scum! You did this to me! You fucking ruined me!”

Konohamaru stared at him confused but in disbelief, he’d never heated log say stuff like the at, let alone call him scum! Log was always a mystery to him, but now that he’s pregnant, he’s even more unpredictable!

“Are you okay?”

“….no, I’m not okay”

Log gave up and grabbed konohamaru tightly, his nose running on konohamarus clothes, but suddenly he looked down and saw that he had grocery bags, it seemed that he was to the store.

“I dont know what’s wrong with me. I feel like an abomination.”

Log backed away and took a few breathers, then looking up at konohamaru and softly smiling. His mood changed quickly and he went back to the couch.

“By the way, you’re not an abomination, you’re just as human as anyone else”

“….?”

The log on the globes face was nearly priceless! He was always confused when konohamaru tried giving him motivation, but would get it later.

“I got your favorite, want me to make you a few owlets? I got chocolate too”

“….Thank you.”

i really don't want konohamaru to die because almost all of sarutobi clan members we know died tragically, and i feel like konohamaru and mirai deserved to die via old age, but plot-wise, it makes so much sense to kill him in the next arc we haven't seen how shinju would devour their target, and based on the last chapter, we know matsuri is in sunagakure; this would be a fitting time for them to show what happened to the target of the shinju when they got eaten

and i think konohamaru's death would be a perfect drive for boruto too... sounds evil i know but i remember back in shippuden both asuma's and jiraiya's death did got used as a way to develop shikamaru's and naruto's character (not that there's anything wrong with that; i think it worked out perfectly fine) but yeah since konohamaru is under the effect of omnipotence, that means if he got killed then he's going to die without remembering that boruto is his little brother... and that the moment naruto got unsealed, he's going to hear the news that konohamaru is dead maybe the omnipotence will be reversed when you're dying but i very much doubt so. (also can you imagine konohamaru's dying and he whispers naruto's name saying that I'll meet you there and well. naruto isn't there because he's not dead. ouch)

Cliff Notes Boruto Chapter 16

Boruto has entered its trainwreck era and I can't look away.

So the first seven pages - not panels, pages - show Kashin Koji sitting on a log and explaining Boruto's teleportation powers to him. In an alternate timeline, Boruto takes 6 years to learn this technique, but our Boruto gets to learn it in a few minutes.

Honestly, I think this is one of the big problems with Boruto: He spends the whole first arc learning the value of hard work and how even geniuses can't take shortcuts to success. But then most of Boruto's powerups come from shortcuts, whether the power is hardcoded into his DNA or spoonfed him via Kashin Koji's clairvoyance.

Anyway, then we get a second exposition dump, in which Kashin Koji explains why they can't just tell Konoha the future. He says the more people know the future, the less certain it is. It's safest to only let a few special people, "Singularities" like Boruto and Eida, in on the secret. Because if there was one thing this manga was missing, it was more computer puns.

Speaking of Eida, she finishes spying on Boruto and returns to the conversation with Sarada and Sumire. Sarada wants to know where Boruto is and how to help him, and Sumire scolds her for not respecting Boruto's feelings. Sumire then complains Sarada ignored her feelings as well.

How rude of Sarada, to hug her long lost childhood friend after 3 years of exile. As Sumire was watching, no less. Didn't she remember that one-minute conversation from their genin days, where Sumire clearly called dibs?

The mood is so awkward that Eida leaves to go flirt with the Hokage. She confirms that Gaara is hibernating and Shinki is a tree. But she can't give Shikamaru any current intel, because when she tries to spy on the Tree People in real time, Squid Face gives her the stink eye.

A toad then hops out of her hair and tells Shikamaru to send team 7 to Land of Sand. Also, Konoha can't provoke Jura no matter what. Even if he appears at the local bookstore and camps out in the adult section, Shikamaru just needs to let Toupee Man do his thing.

So Team 7 heads to Suna to meet with the non-treeified members of Team Shinki. Araya has a goatee and a sock over his head, and Yodo...I'll be honest, when I first saw this, I thought she was wearing a thong, but I think those are just belt panels.

Yodo immediately says Sarada's "aura" is different and asks if she has a crush on a boy. Sarada is weirded out at how literally everyone has started shipping her with Boruto. Before they can talk further, the squad finds two Divine Tree People.

They focus and try to see what nefarious deeds Ryu and Matsuri are performing. But the Tree People aren't doing anything. They're just standing in the middle of the desert...staring at a dead toad...because toads are Boruto's thing, right? Maybe if they poke it with a stick, he'll show up.

Next time - Team 7 sacrifice their lives for an unnamed amphibian.

Boruto doesnt acknowledge either one of them, the only person he acknowledges is Himawari and asks Konohamaru to protect her 😭 read the chapter Im not making this up or leaving anything out!

(Note: I find it funny how they say he looked Sarada in the eyes when at no point does he ever turn to look at her, she yelled out Boruto and he didnt glance her way and just told Konohamaru to look after Hima, but when Sumire yells out Boruto he actually DOES turn around to look at her and listen to what she says, then when Sarada and Konohamaru are both speaking hes looking straight ahead again not looking at either of them 😭)

Boruto literally doesnt say anything to either of them, he only asks Konohamaru to protect Himawari, then he responds to Konohamaru and then orders Nishi to tell him whenever he senses any movement of chakra, it is SARADA AND SUMIRE that has to speak to him before he acknowledges them

He never asks either one of them if their ok, so where tf are these ppl getting that he didnt care about Sumire being knocked out and ignored her? again, go read the chapter yourself, he ONLY acknowledges Himawari being hurt and asks Konohamaru to protect her

Whats even funnier is that he STILL only acknowledges Himawari, he didnt react to Sarada or Sumire being hurt, he saved/protected them, but he didnt treat Sarada any better than he did Sumire, he understandably prioritized his little sister and her safety.

Am I saying he doesnt care about Sumire? no Im not, what I am saying is that this argument that he 'ignored' and 'didnt care' about Sumire being hurt here is stupid af because you could literally say the same thing for Sarada

Examining Foils: Sumire Kakei & Sarada Uchiha

Part 1:

First chapter of TBV with Eida and daemon challenging Sarada, sumire saved them both. Sarada is always so close to blowing their cover (and I loooove her and Sakura, but they are both volatile lol) and they even show sumire thinking of the mission Shikamaru gave them. This shows how intentional she actually is. It also contrasts to how Sarada never does, despite being the more outwardly ninja of the two.

I think sumire is a great pairing & foil for Sarada, she brings the calculated behavior & cunning personality of a ninja & Sarada brings the passionate heart & strength. Combined, they’re a force to be reckoned with. The manga seems to be setting them up to play off each others strengths. The fact that the confrontation with Eida/Daemon happened directly after shikamaru criticized Sarada’s impulsive brashness, & Sarada noted her own harshness, is significant imo.

Shikamarus strength lies largely in his stealth as a ninja. With later context of him willing to speak to boruto & admitting he will keep his cover as hokage and publicly oppose him while secretly sharing a truce. I think ppl misinterpret shikamarus critique, I believe his main critique of Sarada is how she is going about things, she’s relying on force and not enough on stealth to resolve omnipotence. A true ninja must utilize the shadows and that’s quite literally shikamaru’s ninja way.

When talking to her, he never states his PERSONAL feelings or opinions on the matter, just the diplomatic facts. That’s purposeful.

He actually stops Konohamaru from criticizing Sarada’s passion, remember- shikamaru is VERY big on the will of fire, more hints that it’s not Sarada’s passion that’s the problem, it’s what she’s lacking (patience, stealth & discipline) that’s hindering her growth as a ninja

It seems even Sarada deep down realizes where her problem actually lies

She keeps trying to attack the issue head on instead of thinking like a ninja and gathering intel, planning, and maintaining cover to keep her access to more information for her mission (mission being justice & resolution for boruto)

Another direct parallel with Sarada is that Sumire is the catalyst for Shikamaru to have a change of heart.

By gathering intel that can be used to prove Boruto’s innocence, Sumire led to the biggest amount of progress in Konoha for Borutos case since it started.

Sumire is shown directly making the connection by thinking back to a convo where boruto should be significant to Amado in an effort to make a case for Boruto to be helped. She’s not mindlessly asking him questions, she’s connecting the dots and trying to influence others to help Boruto.

The story has established she thinks back to the mission at hand a lot. I would even bet that she was betting on her convo being listened to by Ino & thus shikamaru by extension. When she thinks of shikamaru in chapter 1, it’s when he was dropping in on their convo via Ino.

& Again, first thing TBV starts with is Sarada failing to get through to shikamaru, and her relaying her failure and frustration to sumire. This marks it’s importance. Sarada noted where she failed with Shikamaru to Sumire, “I was really harsh again” and a few chapters later we have Sumire trying a different approach after listening to Sarada’s failure.

This page ^ of Sai asking Shikamaru what he thinks of Sumire and Amado’s convo goes right into Sumire relaying what she learned to Sarada. The composition hints at connecting the scenes. As well as their first convo of TBV ending with Sarada leaving a question that defines their predicament & sumire taking an active role in the next scenes after.

This, to me, seems like the writers are hinting that Sumire is taking Sarada’s question on in her own ninja way. What Sarada is not seeing, Sumire is. While Sarada will likely be coming in to provide the force needed until she learns to incorporate stealth into her arsenal better.

Having Sumire there when Hidari first attacks Sarada seems to me that Sarada will start taking on her role as Sumires foil in TBV too. Because Sarada balances out Sumires weak areas as well. Their dynamic with boruto being one of the main areas that shows Sumires flaws. She is overly cautious and hesitant where Sarada is more direct with him, leading to Sumire seeming disappointed.

Despite the work she’s doing for boruto to receive justice as well, Sarada gets the big moment & acknowledgment while she seems to feel conflicted & left out. I definitely think this moment will impact her going forward to be more direct.

As the story builds more context I will definitely do more analysis of their foil dynamic and how it progresses! I think these first chapters of the series is to establish the dynamics and we’ll start to see more growth later on.

no matter what, I think it's a tendency that the write has towards sakura to not include her, bc everyone talks about "sakura will appear when there's a medical situation or some emergency" but this is not true.

idk if you remember when sasuke and naruto lost rinnegan and kurama. in that chapter, shikamaru calls for the medical team to arrive in a speech bubble but we never saw them. we didn't get a small glimpse or anything even though the logic asks for medics to tend to their serious injuries, especially sasuke.

and in boruto tbv it's the same konoha was invaded and people became trees, going as far as turning moegi into one tree. however no one thought medics were necessary, instead using sarada to assess that they were alive in the first chapter. in later chapters we see konohamaru surveilling the situation but we still don't see medics. we're 8 chapters in.

it's odd to the reader because in other situations from naruto, chunin exams, pain arc and war especially, the first ones to respond to chaos are the medics, but in boruto there's a lack of them when you need them, when you think of them.

so no matter if you try to shut off the allegations, there's something sus whether you want to accept it or not and it's normal that the public and the readers feel this way. it is strange. especially when sakura is the female character people like from og and she's also the first person that comes up to mind when you need health care.

Listen, I'll say this again - If you want to believe that the author hates Sakura, by all means go ahead, I don't care 🤷‍♂️

Sarada Uchiha’s Possible Power Source Theory

Reasons I think Sarada will get an animal summon:

-both her parents & her sensei, Konohamaru have one

-if Sarada gets at least a summon, her, boruto (who has been using toads in TBV) & Mitsuki can fulfill the next generations 3 way deadlock.

-her encounter with sasukes snake in the anime. She was the only one not scared of him and was the most open minded about the snake. It’s important the animals actually like and choose you as well and Sarada has that going for herself!

Sage mode potential?

-as of chapter 11 it’s looking like Sarada may have to leave the village due to Hidari, sasukes 10 tails clone, hunting her down. If she goes back with Boruto she may have a chance to train with a sage animal due to Kashin Koji. This would give Sarada a place to hide from the shinju as well as train to get stronger to go back and face them. Also keeping Konoha safe with her absence

-she constantly reaffirms how Naruto is her role model, & due to his uzumaki genes & jinchuriki status, most of Naruto’s sources of power aren’t attainable for her. But sage mode can be. The databook gives her a high chakra reserve & Sakura training her in chakra control would make her a good candidate for a sage mode.

- the parallel with boruto taking on some of sasukes skills (like kenjutsu) would make it perfect for Sarada to take on something like Sage Mode in the spirit of Naruto

**since mitsuki has snakes covered, & Boruto is using the toads, I think it’d be more interesting for Sarada to get slug Sage mode so I drew her with Katsuyu. Which would be both unique to her (outside of hashirama) and a nod to her mother!
