Finally found some shitty pictures from urbex event, where we went to watch a movie in an abandoned cellars that can be accessed only from a manhole cover near a frequented street in the city centre... Its from two years ago and the movie we watched was Kona fer í stríð (Woman at War)... And we watched it inside one of the tiny cellar rooms, with roots hanging overhead, little dirt cave in coming from one of the walls and sitting on bunch of chairs we had to bring from a clubhouse couple of streets over...The movie played on little laptop balanced on a couple of bricks.

It was one of my favorite movie watching experiences.

One of my first thoughts were: Wouldn’t putting a phone in a freezer shorten its lifespan?

(Hopefully by this point you’ve finished all 101 minutes of 'Woman at War’, the kind of person who isn’t bothered by spoilers, or are just deciding if you still want to keep watching.)

What I like most about the film is it has a lot of the essential story beats (unlikable Protagonist with a very human complication). The unlikable part is Halla resorting to destruction of property to further her cause.
The human complication? Halla deciding if she should persue an adoption opportunity (which happened before she went all....aggressive with her picketing methods).
PS: The freshness comes from the trio that not only show up everywhere...they also are able to interact with Halla’s environment (like turning on the telly).
--------
HIGHLIGHTS:
The musicians following her everywhere
--------
My verdict of the film: 7/10
Link to the timestamp commentary: TBA

Winter 2023: favorite movies I watched
🇧🇪 Close (Lukas Dhont, 2022)
felt so real not just because it’s set in the motherland, but also because I got war flashbacks from the start of secondary school, when the shift in gender dynamics set fire to friendships, and boys became boys (derogatory)
🇯🇵 Kore-eda Hirokazu’s filmography
I’ve just watched four of his movies and they were all delightful, recommended if you like the god-tier type of family stories, eg those that focus on siblings, and/or if you like chilling under cherry blossoms
🇫🇮 The violin player (Paavo Westerberg, 2018)
star violinist gets hit by a car, can no longer play, has to become a teacher and stay home with her husband and kid........ is bored out of her fucking mind by the mediocrity of her new average life, desperately wants to gtfo, which makes her a rather unlikable character....... that I absolutely loved, go off queen!
🇺🇸 Thirteen lives (Ron Howard, 2022)
I don’t think anyone expected this to be good but there we are, it’s a thrill even if you know how it ends, Viggo Mortensen doesn’t give a fuck, Colin Farrell has his big sad eyes, and Joel Edgerton saves kids by telling them Belgium beat Brazil at the world cup, keep crying Neymar
🇮🇸 Woman at war (Benedikt Erlingsson, 2018)
Icelandic woman engages in eco-activism by destroying those big ugly electricity tower things, which seems like a serious topic, but it’s actually just the right amount of quirky and comedic, with a neat script and beautiful landscapes

Woman at War    [trailer]
Halla is a fifty-year-old independent woman. But behind the scenes of a quiet routine, she leads a double life as a passionate environmental activist.
A blast. Funny and very timely. And it has better chase scenes than many Hollywood genre movies.
I hesitate to link to the trailer. It reveals so much. Just trust me and watch the movie.
Side note, interesting looking sculptures outside the airport.
