Kombat Pack 1 DLC - All Fighters Review & Overall Thoughts

Good day gamers! All characters for the Kombat Pack 1 for Mortal Kombat 1 have been released as of last month and I decided to go through them all and write a short review for each of the playable characters. Thoughts on Kombat Pack 2 and what I'd love to see for Kombat Pack 3

After watching the reveal trailer for Kombat Pack 2 for Mortal Kombat 1, I have some thoughts about it.

It's pretty cool that they're bringing back Noob Saibot, Sektor, and Cyrax as playable characters. They changed Sektor and Cyrax too; now they're girls fighting in cybernetic suits instead of cyborgs (which I assume means the Sektor and Cyrax that are already in the game as Kameo Fighters are either their past-timeline counterparts that somehow came back or alternate-universe counterparts). Idk what NRS' reason for making that change was. But then again, this is a new timeline that Liu Kang created, so pretty much all of the characters are now different in some way, while still remaining the same characters we all know and love.

And for the guest characters, it looks like they're going with the movie theme this time around like they did for MKX and MK11. This time, it's Ghostface from the Scream movies, the T-1000 from Terminator 2: Judgement Day, and Conan the Barbarian. That would make this the second time Arnold Schwarzenegger has appeared in a Mortal Kombat game and the second time a Terminator has appeared as a guest character. I'm pretty interested in seeing how Ghostface plays in MK1, and the same for Conan the Barbarian. I can see the T-1000 playing similarly to how the T-800 played in MK11, albeit slightly more powerful because the T-1000 can turn into liquid metal, whereas the T-800 could not.

The fact that KP1 has superhero guest characters, and KP2 has movie guest characters makes me wonder: if there's a Kombat Pack 3, what's its theme gonna be for guest characters? If it's anime characters, that'd be pretty unique. Some I'd love to see would be Erza Scarlet from Fairy Tail, Ichigo Kurosaki from Bleach, and Tanjiro Kamado from Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. If not that, then let's get some Tekken characters in there like Hwoarang, Jin Kazama, and/or Bryan Fury, or Street Fighter characters such as M. Bison, Juri, and Akuma.

The Shun Goku Satsu would be perfect fatality material for Akuma. I imagine it happening similarly to how it plays out in SF6: Akuma glides toward his opponent before encircling them with afterimages of himself, which all pile on the opponent before the real Akuma smashes the opponent's head into the ground, which kills them. Akuma then poses over his dead opponent with his back turned to the camera, with the kanji 天 glowing on the back of his gi, the kanji also showing in the background behind him.

For his second fatality, I'd picture him performing a roundhouse kick to his opponent, which sends them into the air, and then performing his Misogi special move, which delivers the killing blow to his opponent.

And with that, that's my thoughts on Kombat Pack 2 and what I'd love to see in a future Kombat Pack 3, if there is one.

In honor of Conan the Barbarian joining the MK 1 roster this week I recreated the classic Conan movie poster from 1982, you can compare side to side with the old original. Of course this was done in my style and no way trying to copy it stroke by stroke. I had also tried using the painting technique of well known comic artist Alex Ross where he first render the artwork in black and white before layering it up with color. While not perfect it did come out better than expected and I am looking forward to perfecting this technique in future works.

On the topic of my last post, NRS seems to be going ham with pairings that I would never have even considered a year ago. Ashrah and Reptile, Kuai and Harumi, Raiden and Kitana, Johnny and somebody who is not Sonya. Some dialogue even mentions that Tanya knows Harumi, but won't tell Kuai how, and my brain immediately screamed "ex-girlfriends". I for one embrace the idea, MK needs more crack pairings.
