Some additional context as well, this takes place in Koogai Thiraipada Iyakkam (literal tr: Owl FIlm Movement*) is a library and space to support filmmakers and break down structural barriers, brainchild of Pa. Ranjith and Neelam. Its a deeply political space, often hosting a lot of film discussions both on its making and as well as its politics. Two, that table has Ram, Lenin Barathi, and Pa Ranjith. Folks generally know Ranjith as a resulte of his mainstream successes. Ram is a long time filmmaker in kollywod, trained under Balu Mahendra and makes a lot of left political films that discuss globalization, education, caste, class, gender, and sexuality. Lenin Barathi known for his film Merku Thodachi Malai about landless peasants in the western ghats also known for being politically vocal. So hence the producer being like Im a proud chettiyar. PLEASE!

also reminded me of a panel where there was ram, mari selvaraj, lenin barathi?, and pa. ranjith at neelam and some journalist was asking them about caste and film and was like proudly "as a thevar (or some other dominant obc caste) something something nonsense" and they all had this like "lol are you fuckin serious" look on their face and i cant find that video anywhere now please help
