Teeny Tiny Music Store!

This was my humble contribution to Spoke Art's SDCC efforts this year. I'm late to the party BUT that now means I can share it and say that you can now get prints at their online shop.

They actually have a bunch of my dioramas available and I love them all.

As an illustrator I’m super excited about this!

This would be a great way to make a place for kid lit artists to share their work and have it potentially actually seen by art directors (or at least one another) since Instagram is hiding our posts from our followers and only allowing the most popular posts to show up in tags. And since Twitter (X) is sinking.

@alleannaharris @kolbisneat @jameelaillustration Do you know any other kid lit artists on here who might be interested if this gets off the ground? We can make a start on our own, more useful, Instagram :)

Another idea: Communities on Tumblr

For a while now folks have asked us for better ways to connect with other people who share similar interests. We’re listening, and at Labs we’ve been looking into fulfilling that need, Tumblr style.

Introducing Communities, a new place to connect with others on Tumblr:

Here in Labs, we’re working on big ideas that could transform how Tumblr is used, while keeping that Tumblr vibe alive. You can see one of those ideas above. We’re calling it “Communities”, a new dedicated space on Tumblr for people to share and discuss all the content they love. Communities can cover topics like your favorite show, artist, movie, video game, your school, your board game group, friend group, big or small, whatever you want.

Each Community has their own semi-private safer space away from the regular dashboard where you can interact with other Tumblr users who share the same interests and passions as you. There are moderators and members (you!), rules, and privacy settings. Each community has its own feed of posts from members, separate from your Following and For You feeds. Interactions within community spaces stay there and replies will work more like a traditional comment section. Folks will be able to reblog posts into a community, but not out — at least not yet.

We’re very excited for you to try it, and help define the best path forward. What we have is a prototype to help us validate the idea, but there’s still plenty of questions that need answering. Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll be reaching out to people across Tumblr, and the internet at large, to try our prototype. Based on the feedback we get, we’ll iterate on the idea to see what resonates best with all of you on Tumblr.

This week we said goodbye to Ladybird alumni Wallace. He lived out his days in his wonderful forever home. We wanted to thank them for showing him the love that he so deserved for the past couple of years. As a final tribute to Wallace's memory, his human is selling his art prints for the month of April and donating back 100% of the proceeds to Ladybird. Wow.... Thank you, Andrew! Standing Up for One's Self

Ursa Major is one of the largest constellations in the sky. Zeus was reluctant to deal with his wife Hera’s wrath after she found he had been unfaithful. In her anger, Hera transformed Callisto into a bear. Later, Callisto was placed her alongside her son, Arcas (Ursa Minor) in the sky. The constellation Ursa Major has been seen as a large bear since ancient times.

Though bears are normally a symbol of calm, stoic strength, a defensive bear will go to great lengths to protect itself and its assets. When assessing its surroundings, a bear will stand on its hind legs, and by default, it appears larger and more formidable. This is often enough to cause an offender to re-think its intrusion.
