Metal Gear Solid 2 - 2001, was almost cancelled and Hideo Kojima almost resigned from Konami as a few months before the game's planned release, the national tragedy 9/11 took place.

Kojima and the other developer looked over the game's events and noticed many unfortunate similarities with the real world even, and after consulting with lawyers, the game required revisions in three hundred spots.

9a.m. Thoughts on Tommy Tallarico

My thing about the Tommy Tallarico "Oof" controversy is that it was more revealing to me was how regular people don't seem to realize that the people in more prominent positions in industry take credit for the achievements of others on a regular basis. The reality is that in the games industry there's honestly no shortage of high-level individuals with seniority like Tallarico who love getting credit for the work of others.

The takeaway from the general public from hbomberguy's video shouldn't be "wow haha Tommy Tallarico is a jerk" but rather "wow creative industries sure do ascribe importance onto individual auteurs for their achievements when it's most often their subordinates who are responsible for carrying out their vision".

It's like this with any 'auteur': Kojima, Ken Levine, the Hausers - heck I'll throw Elon Musk in there. It's not that these people who have achieved prominence have no merit in their own right, but at a certain point those merits lose relevance/become outdated while the people currently actually doing the labour are the ones actually executing the vision and left by the wayside. The auteurs direct and become the posterboys while a team works to bring their ideas and 'brand' to life. Without their teams the auteur often can't execute peanuts.

Don't ascribe value to projects or people just by virtue of having heard of them before. Ascribe value to the people you haven't heard of, especially as these auteurs often put the workers in a position of having to work in spite of the direction and concepts, and not necessarily thanks to them.
