tw: small discussion of no consent very brief, do not try and debate with me please just block me if you donât agree. Also Iâm using their first names if thatâs okay
Personally I donât think I would hate Noaka that much if it werenât for the fact that the fanbase seems to justify her actions all the goddam time
âShe knows sheâs awfulâ Guess what that doesnât change anything, just because you know your awful doesnât mean your suddenly changed or a better person. She knows what sheâs doing is wrong and she still continues to do it anyway
âMiki is worseâ For the love of all that is holy can we stop bringing up Miki when it comes to calling out Noakaâs morally not great decisions. Yes Miki was completely in the wrong for doing nothing about Shoukoâs bullying and than blaming Shoya in the present and yes that scene did indeed infuriate me. But honestly I donât hate her as much because it actually feels like sheâs trying while Noaka feels like sheâs doing the bare minimumÂ
âShe tries to get betterâ Okay she insults Shouko with sign language, good for her that she tried to learn. Sheâs still pretty hostile and mean even with doing the basic decency of not attacking Shouko
âWe see where sheâs coming fromâ Oh goodie she only bullied Shouko because she was jealous, while yes an interesting motive doesnât make her any better because sheâs still hurting Shouko. Motive and intent donât matter when it comes to effect and consequence
âSheâs better in the mangaâ I read the manga and saw the basic things left out of the movie and I felt the manga made her worse. After attacking Shouko her response is basically âShoya is gonna hate meâ not âWtf is wrong with meâ. Oh yah and she locked herself with her comatose crush, let none of his friends or family in, and than (tw for no consent) kissed him in his coma and basically said its better he would be dead than alive if she could have him
And to top if all off she gets no consequences. Shoya was ostracized and bullied, and while yes from a place of guilt he tried to become a better person and earned a right to be better. I am not saying Naoka needs to go through what Shoya went through but Noaka isnât even looked at weirdly for ASSULTING Shouko for no good reason
Basically I honestly genuinely think I would have liked or understood or analyzed her more if she wasnât constantly let off the hook for her downright heinous actions against the girl who showed no anger towards her. Love this movie, Noaka just enrages me

Exactly, I just canât understand people who think Kawai is worse when Ueno is the one to consistently show she hasnât changed a bit. Its gotten to the point where nobody ever calls out Ueno ever for every single horrid action she takes
I need to find more people who donât like Ueno and are willing to give Kawai at least a bit more leverage. Kawai is awful but sheâs no where near as bad as UenoÂ
I think another one of my hottest anime-based takes is that no, Kawai is not 'Just as bad as Ueno' and it's kind of a weird take really? Like, Kawai is no saint, not by a long shot, she does deny she had any part in the bullying of Shouko and it is shown that that's wrong, she was complacent in the whole thing, she pins it all on Shoya, like yeah! I get that!
But I don't think Kawai hates Shoko. I don't think she ever really did, she just wanted to fit in with her peers like most children do, and yeah, that did cause her to be complacent and laugh at the bullying because that's what her friend group was doing, doesn't make it right but I think it's important to get that. She probably does genuinely think she didn't have a part in the bullying because it was never actively done, she was trying to fit in with her peers, don't forget they treated Sahara poorly as well for being friends with Shouko, I'm not gonna blame a kid for wanting to avoid that. She reads as if she genuinely doesn't realise the part she played in the bullying and because of that she is genuinely hurt and confused at the accusation. A Silent Voice doesn't really develop her character past it but Kawai is not as Irredemable as some of you make her seem.
Ueno hates Shouko, and she makes it very very clear that she hates Shouko. To everyone around her, to Shouko herself. She is still actively bullying Shouko when everyone else around her has moved on, hell, the first thing she does when she sees Shouko and Shoya together is attempt to take Shouka's hearing aids off her because she still thinks it's just fun and that Shoya will play along. She hates Shouko because she views her as the reason that Shoya lost all his friends, which is blatanty an untrue statement, Shoya lost his friends because he was a bully and no one wanted to be assosiated with him when it wasn't cool to be a bully anymore.
The ferris wheel scene. Is awful. It's the most emotionally charged scene to me. Ueno straight up tells Shouko that she's the problem and that the way she is is just a burden on everyone around her, she refuses to use Shouko's notebook to communicate like Shouko wants, and when Shouko expresses that she doesn't hate Ueno and that she hates herself, Ueno pushes her to the ground and yells at her that she's just the same as she was back in elementary, it is awful Ueno is fucking awful! After Shoya gets put in a coma saving Shouko, Ueno beats her up and yells at her about how everything that happened is all her fault, as if she literally didn't just try to commit suicide because she felt like a burden on the people around her.
I just. Don't get how you guys see 'Girl who was complacent in bullying who genuinely doesn't think she had a part in it and so deflects blame onto another person who had a bigger part' and 'Girl who literally goes out of her way to make an already depressed girl feel even worse about herself because she thinks that she shouldn't have to feel bad about being a bully' and went 'Yep! This are the exact same!' like.????
#Its so nice to find people with a similar opinion because jeez is it hard#This fandom just loves letting Ueno off the hook all the time#Sorry great post though#a silent voice#koe no katchi#nishimiya shouko#Ueno Naoka#Kawai Miki#shoya ishida#manga#anime
