Stay warm, my friend, when the winter comes and lays its blanket of snow upon the land. Lounge in front of the fire and snuggle in while the frost peeks in the windows. Still working on this blanket. Just 2 skeins left. It's oh so close! It's a bear of a blanket and so hot to knit that I can't do but so much before I have to put it down for a bit. My daughter recorded this for me. Everyone is asking me what am I doing these says. Am I making art? Am I selling art? How are you coping? The answer is: I taught myself to knit. That's what I'm doing these days. Why? Well, why not? It's something new. Is it art? Yes, yes it is. Am I making art? Yes, yes I am. I'm knitting and loom knitting. Am I selling anything? No. No I'm not. Not because I've not got things to sell. I didn't really sell a whole bunch before the pandemic. That's life. I don't create to just sell. I create to make my soul joyful. Why knit? I have to focus so hard on the pattern and my hands that there is no room for anything else at that moment in time. Is it perfect? Ummm, no. But, neither am I. So much sadness lol. Am I going to make drawings/watercolors/etc. Again? Yes. I have plans for things, but life is a journey and this is only a part of it. I will know when Time let's me know. It's just how I work. Right now, I knit. I gave it a bit of my soul. It gave me joy, peace, and warmth. I finished my first big project. It wasn't suppose to be this big, but it turned into a beast of a blanket. I'm so proud of myself. Hopefully, this will give me some cuddly warmth this winter. Goddess knows it's way too hot to use right now. If you are interested, I used Bernat blanket yarn and size 13 Takumi Clover bamboo circular needles 36". Cast on 105 stitches. When I started knitting my sister, Toni, bought me a stitch book of 750 stitches. She asked for a scarf. So, I looked up a few and found this leaf stitch. I added the reverse stockinette stitch and a garter border. I'm using Whales Road malabrigo yarn. This is taking me a while to do. I don't know if it's because it's a complex stitch using #4 yarn or if it's because I knit slower than a turtle running through peanut butter or I have ADD and can't focus on this for long periods. However, it feels like I can knit for 6 hours and only gain 3 inches. What's up with that? I'm hoping to have it done before winter though. I've been incognito for a long time now. A few people have wondered what happened to me. Well, let's start with the virus that shouldn't be named. The week of New Year's eve my sister and I came down with a mysterious ailment that kicked my ass and put my sister in the hospital in ICU for 8 days. We survived. Then the world exploded. I haven't really done art since then as in drawing, painting, etc. However, during the quarantine of the virus that should not be named, I learned how to knit. It is miraculous, believe me. It has saved my sanity more than once. It is art, just of a different kind. I adore learning new things. I enjoy learning and incorporating techniques into my life that people having been doing for ages. It connects me to the past, present, and future. My sisters from long ago would be proud. Anyway, I will start posting again. The time has come. I have reconciled a lot of things, come to terms with them and made my peace. It has given me a new outlook on this life i lead. I will walk a little slower. I will enjoy and savor the moments when they come. I will laugh and smile. I will breathe. I will not care what others believe of me. I will live. I will live fully and without regrets. Oh, by the way, this is a blanket I'm knitting. It's huge and I'm proud of it. Hopefully we will have cold so her days where I can curl under it and knit other things. I'm working on other things. I will post them later. I'm not the fastest knitter out there and I will tell you a secret... I will probably never be fast. However, I was once told perfection takes time. ******************************** Anyway, we are talking about wash clothes and/or dishclothes today. Perfection doesn't have to come into play. As long as it does the job, right? Eh, if you're like me you strive for perfection in all you do. If that's the case, I have a tip for you... Practice. Practice and patience. Okay, maybe that's two. The first 2 wash clothes/dishclothes I made were horrendous! I had holes in the from accidental yarn overs and uneven stitches. The two above are my recent ones. I've been knitting for 2 months now. That's not long at all. I know a knitter who has been doing this for over 40 years! I started too late in life to get there, but it doesn't mean I can't strive to do all the things others do. ******************************* My meaning from all this? Never give up on the things that mean the most to you. Never give up on your dreams. And, most importantly, NEVER give up on YOU! Are y'all keeping this side of sane? I don't know if I could answer 'yes' to that question or not. I'm waiting on some beautiful malabrigo to do a column of leaves scarf for my sister. It's called Whales Road, by the way. It's beautiful blues and creamy whites. What you see above is a washcloth. The pattern is actually called, "The Perfect Washcloth". Can you believe that? I did one before this one (I'll have to post it too) in a waffle pattern. I love the pattern, but I think this one is really nice with great texture for washing and scrubbing. ********************************** The yarn is 100% cotton by Lily Sugar n' Cream.
