Glittens

These are glittens—mittens with a forefinger—a design of my mother’s published in Homespun, Handknit back in the 80s. It’s a comfort knit for me, and we’ve had such cold weather that I pulled the brightest worsted weight yarn I could from my stash to knit another pair.

YUMMY MAIL DAY ☕️ Happy Thursday, friends! Just look what I got in the mail. A package from wonderful Knit One Crochet Too! Be still my heart... These skeins just whisper "cozy and rustic" to me. These colors, these textures are so gorgeous! ❤️ Let me tell you a bit about each of them.⁣ - Skein 1 (off-white tweed) is Allagash, a beautiful medium weight wool blend.⁣ - Skein 2 (olive) is Niya, a medium weight 100% silk.⁣ - Skein 3 (mustard yellow tweed) is Soie et Lin, medium weight silk/linen blend.⁣ - Skein 4 (a cute tiny striped one) is 2nd Time Cotton. Recycled and spun from scraps of cotton from the clothing industry. No dye or water is used to create this yarn. So kind to Mother Earth!⁣ - And skein 5 (or better a ball) is Pea Pods. It's 100% cotton with texture resembling peas in a pod. So unusual and lovely!⁣ I really can't wait to begin swatching... The 1898 Hat headband takes half the total project time if not more. For the crown I spiraled the black tweed with leftover green/brown/blue Minerals of Knit One Crochet Too’s Ty-Dy Wool. Not too colorful, I hope. It was already after sunset and the deck was actually covered with a thin layer of ice - whee! - but my #kastanieshawl by @malihadesigns is off the needles so I wanted a photo before all the light was gone! This is a test knit. The pattern is scheduled for release on November 20. Mine used three skeins of @knitonecrochettoo meadow silk in sage (approximately 600 yards of worsted weight).
