🏆 Wowww! This might be the absolute most flawless, gorgeous, prettiest Tennis Skirt I've ever seen! Utter Pleating Perfection.🏆👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 It's Australian @imeaux looking so so so SO super cute in her white American Apparel Tennis Skirt.😍😩😭💘👌🏼 Seriously, look at the shape and depth, and fullness and sharpness of the pleats! 😭 If you have ever seen a better one than this, send it in because I sure would like to see it! 📩 I post more brands of tennis skirts than just American Apparel, BUT I don't think anybody disputes that the AA Tennis Skirt has the finest pleats of all. I mean lots of people have AA dupes and then end up buying the genuine AA. But nobody has the AA and then buys a dupe instead. A friend of mine had 3 tennis skirts of an unknown brand (not AA dupes), and when she got her first AA Tennis Skirt, she said "There is absolutely no comparison between the pleats of this skirt and my other ones." Well. I’ve ‘finished’ my ruff from the @futurelearn course, and I’m a bit disappointed. It’s too small. At first I thought the problem was that I did it wrong by using a running stitch rather than a whip stitch. The whip stitch definitely made it better but not by nearly enough. After redoing my math and remeasuring multiple times I’ve come to the conclusion that it is the pattern that is wrong(it says I need 133cm of ribbon when in fact I need 882). I now need to decide if I want to attach another length of ribbon to make it the correct size so as to be wearable, or just be done with it as a fun sewing experiment.

As for the difference between this one and the HA and extant ones, well, there is quite a lot to that. While this one does give a decent approximation to the look, it is far from requiring the same skill as the real ones would need(math problems aside.) The one shown in the course is made of two layers of what is probably muslin or a very light net type fabric stiffened with startch to help it hold a firm shape. It als looks to be cartridge pleated rather than this one which is pseudo-knifepleats. One more noticeable feature is that the yoman’s ruff looks to have two different degrees of pleats, a much tighter pleating at the neck and a softer almost wave-like pleat at the circumference. Clearly the method of constructing it was much more complex to achieve that. I think it was done in part with startch, but also via a line of stitching that forced the folds to stand further apart from each other. I may play more with how that might be done in the future. Though of course there were ruffs that were much more in line with the look the one I made produced.

Tl;dr This was a fun experiment.
