i'm not gonna lie i don't always find the way the cw writers pair people up to be authentic. especially for klaus. one look at someone and he's smitten because they're attractive? then begins the slow process of getting to know them and he finds some traits he thinks are worth sticking onto? i think it takes him much more to truly care and love for someone. i like the idea of klaus and camille, but i hated the execution through and through. i like the idea of klaus and caroline, but i think there's a lot of depth missing. i think klaus and caroline was probably the most accurate, what with klaus trying to appeal to her "darker" side and caroline being repelled by him. he's a bad person and he makes no pretense for anything otherwise. i just don't see a world where he's automatically gripped by someone.

One’s Promised
A/N: This one is for Soulmate Au!!
You knew soulmates were real because everyone had at least one name on their arm, and it would always be in the handwriting of the soulmate. They could be platonic or romantic. When a soulmate died, their name crossed itself out on the arm. If you had more than one, a new name would appear.
You also knew they were real because you had met yours during your first day of school. Your parents were a bit worried until they found out it was platonic. You were at work when your best friend's name got crossed out. You had screamed and cried. A new name had formed in that moment but your pain didn't care. You were sent home with pay. No one expects anyone to work after their soulmate dies, even if they have a replacement. You had to have someone pick you up, your pain overshadowed everything else.
The next few days were a blur of pain and crying. At the end of them, you knew one thing. You had to leave this town. You needed to be anywhere their memory wasn't haunting you wherever you stepped. You waited a few months, helped your best friend's parents adjust to their death and set your affairs in order. You bid your friends and family goodbye, and drove nonstop to New Orleans.
Once you arrived in town, you found a steady job at a bar named Rousseau's. About six months later, your work friend Cami finally asked you why you always seemed to wear long sleeves. "Cami, I lost my first soulmate. Their name is crossed out on my arm. There is a new one, but I can't stand to see anyone else's name. We had known each other longer than forever. Who told the universe it could ever replace my best friend?" You asked her.
"The universe is unfathomable cruel. My twin brother never had a soulmate, and mine is a massive pain in my side. I still love him despite it." She responded
You nodded. You had herd about her brother's death a while ago. It haunted Cami like your soulmate's death haunted you. "Well this is a happy finish to a shift." You moaned a bit to her.
"You could always come home with me and get drunk." She offered
You really wanted to make new friends and plant some roots in this town. You had stopped because you never wanted to meet your replacement soulmate. Cami already having one made her safe, and what could it hurt."Unfortunately, love, I need her tonight." Said a not horrible looking man
"Y/N this is my soulmate Klaus. Some-days he decides he gets to run my life. He, however, is wrong." Cami stated
"Y/N" Klaus said like he was turning your name around like he had met you a hundred times before.
"The one and only." You said a bit weirded out by the way he seemed to size up your  name.
Before you could process anything, he reached out and pulled up your sleeve. As you opened your mouth to yell at him, he pushed it back down. "Hey!"
"Don't worry, love, we are future in laws after all. You will be coming with us tonight." Klaus grumbled
"What makes you think you have the authority to command me?" You started
Before Klaus could counter, the most attractive man you had ever seen came in. "Niklaus I know that you…" he stopped once his eye fell on you.
"Brother have you met your soulmate, Y/N?" Klaus said
"I am not interested." You replied.
You got a confused stare from all three of them. "It means, no thank you. I already had a soulmate, and losing them was the worst day I ever survived. Not interested." You answered the questioning gazes.
"How cute." Klaus said in just the right way to terrify you to the bone.
"I believe my brother meant to express how little the universe cares for our choices. After all you aren't my first either." Said the man pulling up his shirt sleeve.
You could see almost a sea of crossed out names. It filled most of his arm. You noticed some seemed ancient and several were in a different language. You were just a bit worried. "How?" You asked, confused.
"Long story made extremely short, I am a vampire. This curse our mother placed upon us, has forced myself and my siblings to outlive everyone. I have learned of the centuries, that no matter how hard you avoid your soulmate,  the universe pulls the two of you together." He said gravely.
You reached for his hand and took it in your own. "So you understand why I don't want to do this?" You asked
The slight nod he gave, told you everything you needed to know. The sadness that he carried after so many soulmates and how much he wished it would stop. How he tried to avoid you as much as you tried to avoid him. The nod also told you he felt like this was inevitable and that he was doomed to watch you die. To his extreme pain, he was utterly right.

Female Characters and Friendships
I’m on an Anti-Plec roll, here’s Part 2, the first part was about the injust she’s done to Caroline and her previous ships. This continues on but is also about The Originals - it ended up being very TO heavy, if you only want to read The Originals, scroll down below the logo. At the end there is a little conclusion with both.
Tumblr media
Now the injust to female characters that Plec and the team have done! This does not just relate to The Vampire Diaries but The Originals as well. In The Vampire Diaries, the female characters all had room for development, that matched the show. Teenagers learning about themselves into adulthood. Caroline, Elena and Bonnie had a strong friendship. They all became strong-willed women, they don’t need no man. Then they leave school and it all goes downhill. Bonnie always dies, no man treats her right. Enzo is the closest. Elena can’t decide between two guys became annoying and the Salvatore’s always had to help. Caroline became dependent on Stefan a guy who leaves a lot of the time, and fake-dated Alaric her teacher! Not to mention there would barely be any scenes between the girls. They could barely pass the bechdel test, it all became about boys. It just stounds me that an EP who claims to be a feminist has allowed the women to be like this, Bonnie is the strongest character that hasn’t been wrecked.
Tumblr media
Now onto The Originals. Now, Julie gets a bit of a free pass since Michael Narducci is in charge. The original women on the show: Rebekah, Hayley, Sophie, Davina and Camille. Rebekah - a well loved character, her only storyline is about Marcel, Claire left so I don’t know if they intended for a love triangle or other storylines. Then the rest is to benefit Klaus. Then the rest of the female characters were either hated beforehand or had no fanbase. Let’s start with Hayley, she was hated beforehand (I saw potential, but she was badly written on TVD and it was clear that she was only there but the writers wanted Phoebe), they had to turn her fanbase around and they gave her power, but she was isolated for most of S1 and it was about her history (not complaining). But when Claire left, they elevated her to a lead and it didn’t help, she became a bit of a Mary-Sue and her only relationships are the wolves, Hope, Elijah and Klaus. Sophie - well not much needs to be said except that she was only there for half a season and it looked like she had a friendship with Cami, never saw it on screen. She died, wish they did more. Davina, was the only teenager and but she was underused as well. They spent too long with her storyline then for a while I couldn’t remember what she did. Her only relationship with Marcel and the witches. Kolvina were cute but they killed her off, probably because there were too many witches with Freya and Vincent that they could do her storylines. Finally, Camille. I’m not a Camille hater, I lowkey shipped her with Klaus in S1. But that character and Leah Pipes deserved better. She had all this potential with the human  faction and her brother, but that all got sidelined to be Klaus’s love interest and therapist. I know she shared scenes with other characters but I can’t remember that their relationship were. I hated how they built Marcel and her up then nothing - it felt like they only added that to quell the hate, because of Klaroline. She shared scenes with Davina in S1, they had a slight friendship and it wasn’t developed. A lot of the time, she didn’t actually add anything to the plot. Things could of been done without her. The writers did mess up, yes the show is about family, but in S1 it had a Supernatural mafia thing going on with the factions and that could of been pushed forward. Leah Pipes did the best job in what was given to her. I know a lot hate her death, but that was probably some of the best work she was given in the role because a lot of dedication went into it, she had a whole episode, the only mistake is that only Klaus truly cared, because that was what she was confined to, it would of been nice to have others truly care and not just because Klaus is hurting. There is something poetic about how her death was written, if you look at TVD deaths or the other TO deaths they are done so callously - I’m ignoring Alaric since he came back and they ruined him.
I’m leaving Freya because I’m giving her another season, she is a latecomer. My point is that one thing, The Originals never got right was female characters and female friendships. Off-screen, it is clear that there was a friendship between the girls but the writers did not take advantage of that. Hayley has no girlfriends, she shared a few scenes with Davina and Cami, but you wouldn’t call them her friends, you’d say they are more the Mikaelsons’ or Marcel’s. Davina and Cami, they shared a few scenes in S1, showed that they cared. The perfect opportunity to develop a big sister/best friends relationship. But nothing happened. Cami, as I said, probably shared the most with Davina, but that got abandoned and she mostly ended up working with Klaus (Daniel Gillies was upset that Elijah wasn’t upset about her death, despite there brief friendship), She only had a few Hayley scenes in S3 and they weren’t friends, it was because Klaus told her to help Cami. Then in S1 it’s implied that Sophie and Cami are friends because they work together but nothing. All these female characters were isolated, where in TVD the whole cast feels like a gang because every character is friends with one other. There isn’t that in The Originals. I get it, it’s an adult show, but even with Damon off being bad, everyone did interact. One of the good things that the axe of Davina and Cami has brought is a smaller cast. Riley said that it will have more of a family feel. So hopefully Hayley and Freya will have more of a friendship that extends more than I’m your brother’s baby mamma, and maybe that can extend to family afterwards.
It just astounds me that these two shows and no female friendships or they are extinct. I do hope The Originals gets renewed. I heard that JP and MN were involved in S1, then Narducci was in charge of the rest. So with Julie taking over for S5, that could mean some female friendships developed because I believe S1 was when it was more about the development of the character. To conclude: Leah Pipes deserved better. Caroline Forbes deserved better. Davina deserved better. Bonnie always deserved better. The female characters deserved better. Female friendships deserve better.
Now, not many will agree, so feel free to hit me up for a fair balanced argument if you want. Maybe you agree about the female friendships but disagree with my views of the characters. I stress with The Originals, apart from Sophie, I quite like the women in the show, in season one I could see there potential but unfortunately it did not live up to that and despite a strong real life friendship, none was present on scene, which meant with the deaths of Davina and Cami, only one or two actually cared, and if others did it came off insincere or only cared because of another person.
MORE FEMALE FRIENDSHIPS. I mean Claire and Phoebe are BFFs in real life and they didn’t even do that. They had a scene early on about girls sticking together and that’s it. Also it would be nice to see why she could get on with Hayley but not many other girls.
Literally, just have an episode where it’s a girls night out and they have fun, kick ass and save the day. They had that awesome girl power episode in S1, even if they still aren’t friends. They deserve some fun!
