Hi! I forget if its already been asked or decided, but when you post the rewrite of Big Bad Wolf, were you considering leaving up the first version as well, as a viewpoint of "where we started" vs "how its going (the rewrite)" type of thing?
I'm very looking forward to it, but I *do* like the current version as well (don't @me for bias because I haven't read the rewrite yet lol).
Hi! You know, I don't think this has been specifically asked yet. What I'm planning to do, is repost the rewrite over the current chapters on AO3, essentially overwriting the fic on AO3 as the old draft is now redundant.
BUT!! Do not fret, everything that's going to be deleted, is going to be posted in Running With Wolves, my companion fic for TBBW that holds all the deleted scenes and bonus content. I don't think it's going to be all the chapters as not all of of them have been tampered with. For example: chapter 1? Nothing's changed, just a proof read. So that won't be posted. But say, chapter 3? That's got some changes, so I might post the old version of that chapter. Similarly, if just one scene in a chapter has been taken out, I might just post the deleted scene, and not bother with the entire old version of that chapter. It depends how heavily changed the chapter is from the original.
If you would like to keep the entire old version of TBBW --- go download it on AO3 now! Like I said, nothing will actually be deleted, just posted to RWW instead. But if you're really attached to the old version, you can download it to read another time. I'll be downloading a version for my own records, myself, and I'm sure others had done so already too.
#running with wolves will also be getting more than just the deleted scenes with the update#an update summary#timeline#song playlist#and maybe even a one-shot spin-off#may be posted there too#and that fic will be updated first before TBBW#so I'd go follow that fic if you want the heads up when the TBBW update is immiment#tbbw#the big bad wolf#klaroline#klaroline fanfiction#morningstar writes#asks#ask and ye shall receive

I have just recently have gone an a binge of re reading all my fav klaroline fics, so your post was very exciting to see. Can I request a fix of Caroline comforting Klaus after getting into a dumb fight with his siblings (like they took food/prey? That wasn't labelled for them) Ccan be all of them, or just one, and even though it dumb, it matters a lot to the ones involved? Your awesome!!!
Magically, I wrote two one shots for Klaroline in one week and dang I do love a bit of fluff with my hurt/comfort! Please ignore how utterly cheesy the title is; I ran out of creative juices with that one lmao Enjoy!
Now playing 💿 : Eye to Eye - Limelight
♡ KLAROLINE DRABBLE #69: The Big Sad Wolf♡
Caroline is at a loss for words when she opens the door to an angry, and slightly intoxicated, Klaus. If it weren’t for the distinct smell of bourbon on him, she’d never be able to tell by the controlled way he now storms into her apartment. Well, technically his apartment. That had been part of their agreement; she would come to New Orleans and let him charm her around The Quarter and in exchange, he would give her space, let her live, let her test the waters. She wasn’t totally ready to say those final words or to set both feet on his doorstep. Not yet.
Klaus had been reluctant at first—she guessed his however long it takes fantasy involved the assumption she’d run to the ends of the earth, have her cake, and return to him in some fantastically romantic gesture—but with some negotiating that amounted to, “take it or leave it,” he’d caved. Who said you couldn’t bargain with the Big Bad Hybrid?
A lavish apartment just off The Quarter wasn’t quite what she had in mind, though. Truthfully, she would’ve taken a two-star hotel just to see the sights, but maybe Klaus intends to keep her there longer than two stars. It’s working, evidently, as she’s been here three months and every time she considers moving on, something comes up. And fine, she can’t pretend like that something is always on him because maybe she likes it here, maybe she likes her apartment, her freedom, and seeing Klaus without feeling like her insides are just soaking with guilt.
“Of course, come in!” Caroline exclaims drily, one hand gesturing out while the other is still wrapped around the door’s edge.
“I’m not in the mood for cupcakes or chit-chat, Caroline,” Klaus grumbles before slumping onto the plush, scarlet couch with a huff. It feels a little unfair to bring her cupcakes into this. She knows he likes them, or at least knows the way he looked at her after taking the first bite. She spent two hours stress cleaning just to process it.

Klaroline Fanfiction Masterlist
It's been a minute since I last updated my masterlist so I decided to go ahead and start a new one. Yokan // ▪ Multi-chapters
. The Wolf Series [I, II, III and Outtakes - Incomplete] When Caroline wakes up shackled, powerless and very far away from Mystic Falls, she knows she's in serious trouble. But when a woman named Sophie Deveraux reveals the reason why she's been kidnapped and taken to New Orleans, she realizes things are far worse than she could've ever imagined.
[The Originals rewriting where Caroline is a witch and gets pregnant with Klaus' child. Seasons 1, 2 and 3 complete, season 4 coming.]
. Vice and Virtue [6/6 - Complete] As the second son of a Duke, Klaus Mikaelson has the means and all the time in the world to indulge in every manner of wild activity with very little respect for the regiment of polite society. That is until his brother decides he's had enough of his vulgar ways and gives him an ultimatum. Caroline Forbes is a young debutante in search of true love and adventure. Except her aunt wishes for her to marry a somber Viscount who's already buried three wives. When their paths cross, they realize they might yet strike a deal that could satisfy their relatives and benefit them both.
[AH Regency!AU inspired by Bridgerton and a dozen other period novels I have been reading lately.]
. Pedulum [2/2 - Complete] This is what Klaus Mikaelson knows: death isn't the end for him. From the moment he is brought into the world to his final shuddering breath, Klaus' life is pretty much the same as everyone else's. The difference lies in what happens after he dies: he goes right back to the beginning, a child in London with the memory of dozens of lives lived before. Nothing ever really changes, including the fact that no matter how hard he tries, he can never save Caroline Forbes' life for too long.
[AH/soulmates!AU with a slight magical twist. Technically a one-shot, chapter 2 is just an alternate ending.]
. We'll Always Have New Orleans [3/15 - Incomplete] Caroline wakes up in a world where everything looks exactly the same, only nothing really is. For starters, she's no longer a vampire, and no one else in Mystic Falls has ever heard of witches, vampires or werewolves - no one except for Klaus, who woke up just as human and twice as angry about it. Their search for answers and a way out takes them all the way to New Orleans, and Caroline could never anticipate how much this crazy fake world was about to alter her reality forever.
[Canon-divergence!AU. Set right after TVD 4x18.]
. Speed Dating [3/4 - Incomplete] Klaus is having a bad month, so Caroline decides it's a great idea to drag him along to a round of Speed Dating. Other men in the room do not approve.
AH/AU fluff that was inspired by an episode of House (yes, it is fluff, I promise).
. Gasoline [2/2 - Complete] "He doesn't apologize, of course he doesn't. He doesn't care. He calls everyone love. It's not meant to mean anything. Except it did, once, and it makes Caroline's stomach churn away inside, as she feels Klaus crawling underneath her skin like he never left at all. I've still got you."
AH/Band!AU. Two years after Klaus walked out on his band - on her -, Caroline finds herself in her least favorite place on earth - New Orleans. She really did try to stay away from him, escaping an event just to keep off his radar. He finds her anyway.
. Like It's Christmas Again [2/2 - Complete] As Christmas approaches, Caroline Forbes, a New York-based event planner, is sent to a quaint small town in Virginia to organize their holiday festival. But her plans are momentarily hindered by the presence of Klaus Mikaelson, the Mayor's brother and a grumpy billionaire lacking in any holiday spirit, who's in town to close the sale of his family's manor - the charming estate she was hoping to use as a venue.
[AKA that time when I committed Christmas fic. AU/AH inspired by a Hallmark movie, I kid you not.]
. Spin [5/5 - Complete] Since she was seven years old, Caroline Forbes has been preparing herself to become President of the United States. But before she gets to the Oval Office, she needs to win the election for senior student president at the prestigious Saint Sebastian High - which would be in the bag if only goddamn Klaus Mikaelson hadn't decided to run against her.
[AH/AU lovers-to rivals-to-lovers The Politician!AU where everyone takes school elections way more seriously than they should.]
. How Far I'd Go [2/2 - Complete for now] Set in TVD S6/TO S2. Unable to control Caroline after she turns her humanity off, Stefan reaches out to the only person he can think of for help.
[Slices of moments of Klaus in Mystic Falls while Caroline has her humanity off.] ▪ One-shots
. The Sound of Settling Klaus hates his job at Mikaelson & Sons. He hates wearing a suit. He also hates his brothers constantly butting into his life. Everything will be better once he gets his much desired transfer to the New York branch. Caroline Forbes is the owner of Mystic Café, and when Klaus accidentally wanders into her coffee shop, his whole perspective changes. [AH/Coffee Shop!AU where Klaus is a lawyer. Fluffity Fluff. Lots of Mikaelsons and some Carenzo friendship.] . The Witch Queen Caroline always knew she was different. She was keyed into her own otherness very early on. Strange things happened around the Forbes women. Her mother never really had to spell it out to her, give it a name. Caroline could always sort of feel it, and then at some point the feeling blossomed into comprehension, and comprehension hardened into fact. And with that came an altogether different kind of certainty: this was not a secret she'd be able to keep forever. One day, no matter how hard she tried to hide it, everyone would find out. And when they did, they would come for her.
. Worst Things Have Happened Klaus Mikaelson is a prince with a very dark secret that threatens to destroy his family's legacy. Caroline Forbes is a sorceress whose job is to make sure his secret remains buried. But would it hurt him to put some clothes on? [Royal!AU, with a magical twist.] . The Unexpected Grace of Falling Apart The whole incident was bound to go down as a funny anecdote to be shared among friends, a Oh, you think you've had the worst hook-up ever? Hold my beer kind of story. Provided, of course, that she never had to see him ever and could just wipe him out of her life and memory for good. Given that they live in different time zones, it shouldn't be too much of a hassle.
That is precisely why Caroline is livid when she emerges from the arrivals area at Richmond airport to find Douchebag, in the flesh - sunglasses indoors and all, like the proper jerk that he is - holding up a sign that readsClarisse.
[AH/AU. It's Tyler's wedding weekend and Caroline is back in Mystic Falls for the first time after the most traumatic and depressing year of her life. And it's about to get even worse as she's made to share breathing space with Klaus, The Worst Guy Ever. Except they might have to join forces to save the wedding, and to the discovery that things might not be what the seem. As Caroline teeters on the edge of a breakdown she'd been trying very hard to conceal, an unexpected savior appears to help her through the haze.]
. love, the monster's got me now [Canon compliant. Set in TVD S03E09 Homecoming.]
"Don't run," he says calmly, sounding almost bored, but with a clear warning. "I'm in the mood for a chase. Little spoiler: you can't outrun me." His eyebrows twitch up when he finally turns around to face her, lips curling into an amused grin. "Tyler's girl," he states, gesturing towards the now empty yard. "You missed out on the celebrations, I’m afraid."
[Or: the missing Klaroline scene between "There's your pretty little girlfriend, Caroline" and "There's a whole world out there waiting for you." Klaus and Caroline meet after Homecoming.]
. When It's Gone Suddenly, Caroline hates how nice the bed feels. How soft the pillows are. How smooth and cool and expensive those goddamn sheets are against her skin. She hates the giddiness in her belly, like she's a stupid schoolgirl when she's not allowed to be one anymore. She hates how right the space between Klaus' arms felt, how easily she molded against him. His lips were as full and as soft as they looked, but his hands were gentler and more reverent than they had any right to be, and Caroline hates it. Hates it, hates it, hates it. She hates that it suits her, hates that she wants it, hates that none of it is hers to keep.
[Set after TVD S04E19 Pictures of You. Caroline hears about Klaus' impending departure after a mysterious letter and decides to have some words.] . Wishing Each Sigh Might Be the Last The first time she sees him, Caroline thinks he's an angel.
[Set in 1800s New Orleans. As Caroline lies dying, she prays for God to send help or end her torment and save her soul. She thinks an angel has come for her. But he's no angel at all.] . Feel the Madness Closing In Set in TO S3. Caroline is in New Orleans when Lucien and the Ancestors make a move against the Mikaelson family - and they know exactly who to target in order to get to Klaus. Paranoia sets in, sending him to a very dark place, and Caroline finally learns the price of being loved so profoundly by a monster. . Issues When Klaus' Hollywood career takes a down turn after a nasty divorce and a viral mug shot, his manager decides his life is not yet miserable enough, bringing in a PR company famous for its high-profile damage control cases.
[AH!AU where Klaus is a problematic movie star and Caroline is a PR agent with no time for his BS.] . Urban Legend "I hate myself for saying this, but I have to agree with Little Miss Sunshine," Caroline cuts in. "This is Whitmore. Nothing ever happens here. Least of all a possession that leads to a massacre of slasher movie proportions."
"Thank you, love," Klaus returns brightly. "Very flattering to be validated by you."
"Bite me, Klaus."
"Find me later, after my shift, and we can see to it," comes the shameless rejoinder.
[Or: Caroline tries to navigate life in college having the worst roommate ever, a douchebag who cannot take a hint and a nosy journalist whom she's definitely not attracted to. Never in a million years.]

Warnings: she/her pronouns, fluff, swearing
*Requests are open, please send through as many requests as you want, check my character list and requesting rules.*
Thank you for requesting this! I hope you enjoy it!
Key: Y/N = Your Name, POV = Point of view
Word Count: 1,622
First Person's POV
In a way, I'm almost envious that Caroline got married, don't get me wrong, I am incredibly happy for her that she got married and Niklaus Mikaelson was perfect for her. I truly admit that I've known Caroline since I was a little girl and since then everything has been one heck of a rollercoaster. I was glad for the fact that Caroline chose pretty and flattering dresses for the bridesmaids to wear. Caroline had gone full-on out for the wedding, planning exactly who would sit where and who would be walking down the aisle with whom.
"Caroline, you look stunning," I reassured, resting a kiss on her cheek and carefully hugging her so I wouldn't ruin her dress, hair or make-up. Caroline shot me a smile, staring at me happily and grabbed ahold of my hands. Shooting me a smile. Finally, she looked less stressed and worried. I mean I knew she wanted this to be perfect, who wouldn't want their wedding to be perfect?
"Thank you. Okay, remember Bonnie's walking with Enzo, Elena's walking with Damon and Elijah's walking down the aisle with you. Got that?" I nodded slowly, I originally thought I'd be walking with Matt, but I didn't want to question it so I simply just smiled and nodded a little more firmly.
"It's going to Elena and Damon, Bonnie and Enzo and then you and Elijah. Understand?" I smiled reassuringly, took her hands and shot her a look.
"Don't worry, we've been doing this since we were little girls. Tons of practice. Don't worry. Okay?" Caroline sucked in a breath, nodding and grabbed my hands.
"Make sure Klaus hasn't killed someone or ran off." I left the room, heading towards the groom's room, I knocked on the door and jumped as it was instantly open revealing the most handsome man I've ever seen in my life. The man greeted me with the most charming smile I've ever seen, he leaned against the doorframe.
"On a groom check?" He questioned, a smirk dancing on his lips, I nodded and gave a gentle smile. Figuring this was the noble Elijah Mikaelson. I sucked in a breath, admiring this man and his perfect facial features.
"Elijah?" I questioned, smiling once he nodded and thus confirming my assumption.
"I take that you are the lovely Y/n?"
"It's nice to meet you, Elijah." I greeted, he took my hand lightly, resting a kiss on my knuckles and the simple action brought a blush to my cheeks.
"Niklaus is perfectly okay, no random feedings, no talks of running off. Please assure Caroline that everything is just fine." Elijah's smile made me giddy, that smile was one that could light up any room and make anyone feel a plethora of emotions.
"Thank you, Elijah. I look forward to getting to know you."
"As do I, Y/n. I'll see you shortly."
+++++
Elijah and I hooked arms as we walked down the aisle, I made sure to smile at everyone, it came naturally the smile due to the happy occasion and obviously, the feelings associated with this kind of situation. We walked to our ends of where the other bridesmaids and grooms stood. It seemed that in the blink of an eye, the ceremony was over and the reception had begun.
The Original vampire managed to find me in the crowds of people that were attending the Klaroline wedding, Elijah once again greeted me with a smile, I thanked him for the glass of champagne and sat at the table with Elijah while everyone else mingled on the dance floor.
"I must admit, Y/n I am curious as to why I have never seen you in this business of..."
"The supernatural? Well, before you Mikaelsons came into the picture, I was attacked and used as collateral damage. I didn't really like doing that so I found a witch and had her do a spell. I use a bunch of protective charms, the spell, in a sense I'm pretty non-existent to unwanted supernatural beings... didn't really work out too well with your brother but he never tried anything so... quite thankful for that." I laughed briefly, taking a sip of the champagne and smiling as he chuckled lightly.
"Fair enough, however, I am quite glad that I've gotten this chance to meet you."
"As am I."
"I've heard so much about you, it's nice to finally meet the man behind the legend."
"I wouldn't go that far." He chuckled, I shrugged and smiled at him.
"I would, Niklaus talks to Caroline, and Caroline talks to me. I suppose that he doesn't say it to you but Niklaus is very fond of you." Elijah looked reassured by the fact that his brother did appreciate him, I've heard of so many things that have happened and it is clear that Elijah has tried his best to assist the Hybrid and has on many occasions gotten nowhere.
"That pleases me more than I would care to admit."
"I understand that. It makes sense." Elijah looks to see everyone else begin dancing, he stands up and holds out his hand for me to hold. I place the glass down and take his hands.
"I'm not the best dancer, just letting you know," I warned, knowing that my coordination is atrocious and I didn't want to make a fool of him in front of everyone.
"That is okay, we can just sway." He led me to the dancing, resting his hands on my waist and my hands resting on his shoulders. Together we swayed to the slow music, obviously, Caroline and Niklaus were the main focus but right now I focused solely on Elijah. I wanted to know this man inside and out, I wanted to know Elijah and I wanted to spend more time with him, I am almost angry with myself for hiding myself away because I thus didn't get a chance to know Elijah.
"Is it nice, seeing the world change or does it get lonely... or both."
"Seeing humans change and shape to the societal standards is always interesting. It does get lonely, making friends with humans is always... watching people you grow to love age and disappear or die before their time.... have you ever considered becoming a vampire?"
"I wouldn't be angry to become one, I've asked before to become one just so I'd have some kind of protection against trouble if it came my way but the others are all like- no, no we can't do that to you, doesn't matter if you want it... it's not fair on you." Elijah looked as if he were considering this, weighing up some options and kissed my knuckles once the dancing came to a stop and proceeded to clap along with everyone else.
"If I offered, would you want it?" I stared at him flabbergasted, was he really offering this to someone he hardly knew? Elijah Mikaelson seemed like the man who would be reserved and not offer this to someone unless they were truly deserving of it.
"I believe the term you're searching for is OMG." I squinted at the man, laughing briefly at his attempt to use woke language and licked my lips before leaning closer to him still at a loss for words.
"Would I still want to become a vampire? Yes, please, I would want that but you hardly know me... are you sure you want to do that?" I questioned, grateful that he was offering this however, I didn't want him to think I was taking advantage of his vampirism.
"Yes, I am sure. I promise. You have my word."
"Thank you, Elijah."
"Yes, of course." Elijah and I continued to speak throughout the wedding, giving toasts and speaking with the bride and groom. As the wedding began getting filled with more drunkness, I adventured outside, sitting in the cool breeze and smiling seeing Elijah coming to sit down beside me.
"Would you like to do this now, while no one is watching?" I nodded slowly, grabbing his wrist as he bit into it and cringed slightly at the taste. I wiped my mouth with my hand and stared at him as I waited to hear how I was going to die. Elijah rests his hand on the side of my face, stares into my eyes and speaks softly.
"You will not feel any pain, this won't hurt, it'll be peaceful only if you agree to become a vampire." I sucked in a breath, nodded and whispered the words to him.
"I agree to becoming a vampire."
"Then your death will be peaceful, you will be okay." I didn't feel any pain or even realise that I was dead until I was being fed blood. Apparently, I woke up pretty quickly so no one noticed my disappearance. Elijah placed his daylight ring on my finger and helped me to my feet.
"In the morning, I'll give you your own daylight ring. For now, you can borrow mine, I don't exactly need it." I wrapped my arms around Elijah, hugging him tightly and whispered my thanks.
"Thank you, this means a lot."
Elijah proceeded to mentor me, and teach me everything that I needed to know and then some. Over the months, we grew closer and closer eventually to the point where we formed our own relationship together with Caroline and Niklaus betting on how long it would take for us to become married.

hii! Just saw your promt post, and I was wondering if you could do either Jealous!Klaroline or Klaus comforting caroline after something bad happens to her? sorry if these are too bland 😭😭
hi! thanks for the prompt! i had a lot of fun with it. i'm not sure if this is what you had in mind, but i hope you like it. it ended up technically being both prompts in one.
cw for light angst, (kind of mild, i think) jealousy, klaus's issues, caroline's issues, death of a parent, grief, and it's pretty gooey by the end. we went the full-ass gamut in 2k words. no magic babies. very loose adherence to canon. title is from rock of gibraltar by nick cave & the bad seeds.
for the next thousand years
Caroline was wearing color again.
She'd draped herself in mourning black since she'd surprised him at Rousseau's nearly a year ago, still in her funeral dress with her severe hair barely mussed, but barefoot and ghastly bloodless, holding onto her humanity in a white-knuckled grip.
"My mom's dead," she had said, and he'd scooped her up as she collapsed. Cami had quickly ushered them out the back while Caroline began to weep. "How does anyone survive feeling this?" she'd sobbed into his neck as he carried her home.
How does anyone survive feeling this? he still wondered.
Caroline was in color again, a brick red cocktail dress, the close-fitting pencil skirt a demure knee length, but the scooped neckline was risqué. She was laughing and vibrant, witty and magnetic. No one she spoke with could take their eyes off her. She was a charming force of nature, and she'd spent the evening on his brother's arm.
Oh he wasn't stupid. He knew there was nothing going on. Caroline had gifted him with proud, beaming smiles, whenever he caught her eye, and a thousand years at one another's side let him easily read the encouraging looks Elijah had shot him, but there was an additional significance to them Klaus didn't understand.
Still, it was Elijah who ushered her around the room, making introduction after introduction, her hand tucked into his elbow, or his at the small of her back. Klaus could imagine what people thought of them. How charming they were. How perfect for each other. What a lovely couple.
The glass in his hand cracked. He slumped further down at his table in the corner. Rebekah had done a marvelous job fashioning a more modern version of a speakeasy in their home. The lights were warm and low and made everything seem soft-focus, and the crystal glittered under them. There was a live band playing and--
They were doing the damn foxtrot. He didn't know Caroline could foxtrot.
Maybe he should have guessed this would happen. She had been just a small-town cheerleader when they met. Nothing and no one in the grand scheme of things, but she'd still drawn his attention swiftly and irrevocably. He'd known she'd be transcendent once she made her way into the world. Only, he had thought he would be the one on the dancefloor with his arm around her waist.
He was being ridiculous of course. Even if Elijah had been a serious competitor for her affection, rather than an older brother enjoying needling the younger, Klaus wasn't doing himself any favors. He had experience in these matters after all. A long, sullen pout wasn't likely to steal her attention back. He needed to dredge up a bit of the charm and joie de vivre that made her halfway tolerate him in the first place, but the longer he lurked and watched, the more he felt on the verge of causing a scene. In this case, discretion truly was the better part of valor. He liberated a full bottle of bourbon and another tumbler from the catering staff and made a swift exit.
On his way out of the ballroom, he brushed past Camille and tried to do his best impression of someone who very much did not need to talk about his feelings. She saw the bottle of bourbon in his hand and the look on his face and groaned.
"I really don't want to play wise bartender tonight," she said, slightly tipsy.
He rolled his eyes. "So, don't."
"Okay," she agreed to his surprise. "You need to get your shit together."
"Excuse me?" he snapped.
"You didn't want the wise bartender. So, you get your friend, Cami, who is also friends with the source of your angst. I know more about what's going here than you seem to. This is supposed to be a special night, and you're being a dick."
Klaus continued his escape without acknowledging her. Occasionally, it was necessary to concede the last word, if one wanted to avoid eating one's friends.
Out on the balcony, he poured himself a drink and let the guilt gnaw at him. Cami was right about one thing. This was a special night. He wished he could undo this mood he found himself in, but the harder he tried, the more he risked sinking into certain violence. After the first glass, he left it on the table and went to lean on the balcony railing. He shut his eyes, breathed in the night air, and tried to let the sounds of his city unwind the chains around his spine.
The tap-tap-tap of high heels, divorced from the sounds of partygoers and merrymakers, on marble and then hardwood, pulled him out of his attempted meditation. He'd know the sound of her gait anywhere. This was the quick step of anticipation with a dash of nerves, rather than the sharp staccato of impatient annoyance.
"Did my brother run out of important people clamoring for an introduction?" he asked, directing his question toward the view the moment he smelled the sweet, seductive frangipani oil she'd recently begun using as a perfume.
"Oh boy," she muttered under her breath.
There was the delicate clink of glassware on the metal table. He smelled the crisp, heady scent of an excellent champagne before he heard the pour. A glass appeared under his nose, held by a perfectly manicured hand, nails painted gold just a touch paler than the wine. He took the glass from her and ducked his chin to hide the smile that threatened at the appearance of their thing. They touched their glasses together with a crystalline ping.
He made a thoughtful noise after the first sip. "Marie Ledru? I'm surprised we're serving that."
"We're not. I heard it was your favorite, so I got one out of the wine cellar earlier."
Wine cellar was dubious nomenclature for a dungeon where they also happened to store their spirits. He was shocked Caroline ventured down there. It had been left off the initial house tour, since the last thing she'd needed was to be assaulted by the scent of blood and death.
"Well, Elijah's just full of prodition tonight."
"I have no idea what that means," she admitted. "But it was Rebekah, actually. She practically had to draw me a map, because she made Cuvée Goulte sound like a cat choking, and I couldn't begin to guess how to spell that."
"Bekah's French has always been enthusiastic," he laughed into his glass, the bright effervescence of the wine working to lift his mood.
Or perhaps it was the company.
"I know I've been a total disaster since I showed up here," she said. He made a dissenting noise, but she steamrolled over him. "And I'm not exactly sorry about that. My mom deserved to be mourned, and I needed to do that somewhere," she trailed off as her voice tightened until it was barely audible.
He tried to observe her in his peripheral vision without making her feel studied. She was blinking rapidly, her head tilted back as she looked up at the sky. Light pollution made the stars nearly invisible, and the party had purposely been held on the night of the new moon, but she seemed to look beyond, far off to somewhere he couldn't begin to imagine. Lifting the glass to her nose, she breathed in slowly. Her eyes slipped closed. She smiled, small, but true.
She took a sip and held it, tasting it, before beginning again. "I needed to be somewhere no one would judge me for how I grieved. Whether I was doing it too fast or not fast enough. Too publicly or not publicly enough. If I cried as charmingly as Elena does. Mystic Falls is where I come from, and I'll always love it, but I can't spend the next however many years wondering if I'm living up to whatever they think I should be."
"I understand," he said quietly, with more compassion than he typically had, hoping the small undercurrent of disappointment was hidden from her.
"No," she said, and there was an edge of desperation to it that worried him. "I'm still messing it up. I know this wasn't what you had in mind. It hasn't exactly been the reunion you imagined."
She wasn't wrong, but she wasn't right, either. He'd wanted her to come to him when she was ready. Not just for him. He'd wanted her to be ready for herself. Ready to be who she truly was.
He leaned into her, resting his shoulder against hers. "Caroline--"
"I've been trying to be better," she continued before he could disrupt the point she was winding her way towards. "I've been spending a lot of time with Cami, because she gets how it feels to be totally alone in this one specific way. We have friends, sure, but no more family. Not just blood relatives. The real kind, who know everything about us and love us anyway."
It wasn't a notion he enjoyed thinking about. Whatever their disagreements might be, despite the way they irritated him ceaselessly, he held his siblings tight to his chest, hostages to his greed. Caroline had no such ties remaining, and he had no way of giving them back to her. Instead, he wrapped his arm around her, as though he was anchor enough to stop her from floating away.
She left her champagne on the edge of the balcony and burrowed into him, beneath the protective wing of his jacket. In heels, she was too tall to tuck herself under his chin the way Rebekah did when she was younger. Caroline wound an arm around his back and gripped his shirt hard enough to leave wrinkles. She cupped his neck in her other hand, fingers inching into his hair, and tucked her nose into his cheekbone, her forehead to his temple.
Klaus wanted to abandon his own champagne to hold her close, but couldn't bring himself to close the circuit. Instead, he took a sip, hardly tasting it around the distraction of the woman pressed against him.
"I know I've been useless since I got here," she whispered into the soft skin near his ear, her voice so very small, "and not at all the girl you wanted in Mystic Falls. Elijah was already helping me with the financial stuff; so, I asked him to help me learn the ropes in New Orleans, too. I wanted to--"
His glass toppled down into the garden below. It was a waste of fantastic champagne, but he couldn't bring himself to give a damn with her in his arms.
"--prove I belong here," she was still saying, even as he fluttered kisses onto her cheeks. "And I might not feel exactly like the same girl I was before, but I'm still the best parts of her. I'm still something. I'm still--"
"Everything." He pulled away just far enough to see the way the tears she fought were catching in the soot of her blackened lashes. "You're everything."
She looked at him as though he was both ripping her wounds open and sewing them closed. It's all for you, he'd told her once, and longed for a time when she'd accept the tribute he was offering. He'd never dreamed she'd give the same in return.
When she kissed him, it was like that day in the woods outside her hometown, with all the joy of reconnection and none of the sorrow of an imminent parting.
In a while, once they'd had their fill of soaking each other in, he'd take her back inside to their guests and show her off on the dancefloor. If there was anyone else who simply had to meet her, they’d best enjoy doing it with him attached like an additional appendage, because he wasn't letting her out of his arms again that night. Or for the next several days. Or perhaps ever, if she would allow it.
"Happy birthday, Caroline," he pledged against her lips.
How does anyone survive feeling this? she'd asked all those months ago.
Like this, sweetheart.
Exactly like this.
#fic#klaroline#prompts#for extra flavor: marie-noelle ledru was a boutique champagne producer#whose sisters sold 2/3 of their land out from under her to a larger manufacturer#she ended up retiring a few years later because of it#and now bottles go for truly astronomical amounts of money#anyway i thought that fit klaus's vibe in this

Non-Exhaustive List of Soulmate Fics: Klaroline Pt 2
Okay, I'm bored so I'm compiling my favorite soulmate fics. Here's the Klaroline edition:
All I Need by emeraldvixen
Summary:
In which I vaguely follow TVD canon and write the soulmate/werewolf mating AU which absolutely no one asked for. OR The one in which Klaus finds his soulmate, gets bitten, hides his mating mark from her and waits for the day she'll let him give her one back. Fluffy, mildly angsty slow burn with possible super hot hybrid smut in later chapters. *Nominated for a KC Award in the Best Smut Multi-Chapter category*
With Roses in my Hands by emeraldvixen
Summary:
Soulmate AU inspired by a Tumblr post, in which anything you paint on your skin appears on your soulmates skin too. I believe the original poster is let-gavin-free. Winner of the 2020 KC Award in the Best AU supernatural one-shot category.
Entanglement by sunshineandfangs (Avana)
Summary:
Soulmates were a complicated phenomenon that no one quite understood, as neither science nor magic nor ambitious combinations of the two could definitively explain how the connection worked. But for the most part, people were happy to have soulmates: platonic, romantic, multiple, or otherwise. Then there were the exceptions... Unfortunately, Caroline Forbes had one Niklaus Mikaelson as her soulmate, and no amount of advanced warning could really prepare her. Unfortunately for Niklaus Mikaelson, no one saw fit to warn him of the force of nature that was his soulmate.
Jar of Hearts by Cupcakemolotov
Summary:
In a society where vampire allegiance is worn openly on their skin, Caroline Forbes is anomaly. She woke from transition marked by a single triangle. For six decades, she's hidden the truth of her allegiance, refusing to abandon what family she has left. Klaus Mikaelson's sudden appearance in Chicago bodes well for no one. For Klaus has spent five hundred years burying the truth of his curse, given as bloody vengeance for the death of Katerina. Klaus has a soulmate.
A Thousand Years and then Some by slstmaraudersjple
Summary:
"C'mon love, what's a little murder between soulmates?" Klaus discovers his soulmate as he kills her. Unbeknownst to him, she dies with vampire blood in her system and returns as a vampire. Unfortunately for him, she leaves Mystic Falls and spends the next couple centuries running from him. Never let it be said that they weren't stubborn. One-shot. Or, in which the Caroline and Klaus discover that they are soulmates when Klaus kills her, and a displeased newly born baby vampire spends the next couple centuries running from him and his family while living in denial. But the Mikaelsons play the long game, and they play for keeps… and that includes Caroline. Klaroline featuring the Mikaelson siblings (no Freya).
No Rest for the Wicked by Cupcakemolotov
Summary:
When Bonnie goes missing, Caroline returns to New York City in the hope that she can find her before their past catches up. But New York's supernatural underbelly is ruled by the unforgiving Mikaelson Syndicate. With nightmares awaiting around every corner, complications arise when a simple one night stand changes everything.
Burn For Me by Cupcakemolotov
Summary:
Ambassador Caroline Forbes is returning home to take up the mantle as Princess and to marry her betrothed, Tyler Lockwood. But a rest stop quickly becomes a problem, as she finds herself dealing with not only dragon claiming magic, but the dragon.
Standing Outside of Heaven by Cupcakemolotov
Summary:
When Caroline Forbes is sixteen, she's cursed by a demon. Forced to flee from her coven, she learns that not all curses are what they appear, and that demons can take many forms. Including the shape of her soul mate.

Unexpected encounters | Klaroline one-shot
(somewhat a rewrite, my version of the klaroline tree scene)
tw: smut 18+
— — — — — — — — — —
Caroline’s vampire speed had been carrying her through the New Orleans bayou, her senses were on high alert. The whole reason she had ended up in this ridiculous predicament was Tyler, she had heard about him travelling to New Orleans, merely to kidnap Hayley and test a prophecy about her and Klaus’ child. And Caroline was the furthest from happy about this news.
Yea, she never really liked Hayley, and her relationship with Klaus was a constant push and pull. But Caroline drew the line at innocent babies, especially unborn ones. Tylers need for revenge against Klaus was getting ridiculous, she understood why, Klaus did kill Tylers mother and turn him into a hybrid against his own will, amongst other things, but the baby was innocent and kidnapping Hayley to test a mere propehcy was just too far.
Her thoughts were interrupted when she heard the leaves nearby rustling, “Tyler?!” Her shout echoed through the empty Bayou, she got no response, “I swear if thats you I’m going to teach you a serious lesson!” She shouted once again, and unshockingly she got absolutely no response.
She heard the leaves nearby rustling once again, the sound of vampiric speed sending a shiver down her spine, she spun around, her senses on high alert. Caroline acted on instinct and used her vampiric speed to firmly grip whoever it was by their throat and shoved them against the nearby solid tree trunk.
“Seriously?! Sneaking up on people isn’t very nice.” A sarcastic smile was plastered on Caroline’s plump lips, her hand still remained gripped around his throat tightly.
“Hello love.” An amused smirk on his own lips, it was Klaus. Their eyes remained locked in an intense gaze, his deep blue ones seemed to bore into her baby blue ones, none of them were willing to break the silence just yet, the air crackled with tension and unsaid feelings and thoughts.

Meep! Thank you @nikethestatue for this!
Fave ships:
Of all time: Kanej
Acotar: Elriel 🌸🦇 with FERVOR
ToG: Manorian
CC: Night and Day
Secondary fave ship: Ahhhh this is tough. I love Feysand and Nessian for different reasons. I think both of their relationships have bright spots and flaws, but I feel Feysand edges out just because we have so much more perspective of their relationship and they are the OG's! I wish I could read their story again for the first time probably more than any other couple in the SJMverse.
What ship would you want to live in real life?: Genuinely, Elriel. The peace and quiet girlies get it. The house husband girlies get it. I am truly a person who requires a great deal of alone time and quiet time to recharge. I, much like Elain, enjoy a great deal of solitary activities. Writing, baking and gardening. I like filling my free time making something. It gives me a sense of peace and purpose outside of the capitalist hellscape we live in. I have yet to experience a romantic partnership where my "me" time or quiet time was treated as valuable or important. Nothing will ever be more romantic to me than Elain and Azriel simply wanting to be around each other, even if in silence. Sitting together quietly in the sun. Or Azriel listening to Elain talk about her gardening plans, because he is interested in the things she thinks about creating.
It's a special type of connection, to not constantly need high energy conversation to feel close to someone or learn about them. Being at peace with one another, being interested in each other's minds, and understanding what someone else needs to feel calm and grounded, that is really beautiful to me.
Crackship: Ansel and Rolffe, but also Gwyn and Fenrys!! I am a Twilight of the Gods theorist and genuinely believe the Valkyrie will play a huge role in the Ragnarok retelling. Fenrys is one of my fave SJM men, but he and Gwyn have a lot in common. Both were twins who got horrifically SA'd after witnessing their twins murder. Both have a sassy sense of humor, and a long complicated history being loyal to and in service of powerful and short tempered leaders (Maeve and Merril.) I personally see a lot of connections there, and see Gwyn and Fenrys both as side characters in their respective series that may likely become key characters in the multiverse!
A toxic shop you love: Klaroline 🙈 still not over it.
Best fanfic for ship of your choice?: Okay, despite the nearly 100k multi chapter fanfic I wrote in April, I am still brand new to the fic world and haven't read a lot of fics yet! So I'm still gathering recommendations and figuring out where to start! But I did read Pretty Little Angel by DottieLovegood after a friend sent it to me over a year ago, and it essentially became my religion. I can't wait to keep diving into all the talented writers in the Elriel community! I've read some great one shots by @tswaney17 and @bloomingdarkgarden (ehoney on AO3) and have years worth of fics to catch up on!! I'm sorry I'm such a newb 😭 and taking recommendations!
Tagging @faeprincesswarrior @enigmaticexplorer @nikachansstuff @gracie-rosee to see your answers!

WIP Wednesday
Here's a quick peek at my WIP Klaroline one-shot:
Klaus sighed contentedly, lazily glancing around the room and noted with a smirk that the once-sturdy Louis XIV wardrobe was now lying smashed on its side. “Do you recall the first time you came to me in this house,” he mused, allowing the pleasant nostalgia to wash over him. “It had been seven years since we’d last seen each other in Mystic Falls and you adorably grabbed me by the throat and pinned me against the wall.”
“Only because you let me.”
He chuckled, his voice indulgent as he teased, “Ah, love, surely you know by now there’s an infinite number of things I’d allow you to do to me.” With a dimpled smirk, he added, “And you’ve reciprocated in such delightful little ways.”
Preening at the comely blush that stained Caroline’s cheeks, Klaus continued reminiscing. “As I recall, word had reached your ears that I’d been slaughtering indiscriminately and you came to reprimand me in that marvelous headmistress manner of yours. Of course, you’d already cleverly seen through my ruse and realized I was targeting those who I knew eventually would be enemies of my daughter.” With a silly grin, he told her, “You were in a right strop, insisting that I clean up my mess. I’d no idea that bleach could be such a sensual experience.”

Klaroline WIP Wed - fake sexy lamp au - 1.4
1.1 here 1.2 here 1.3 here
“I guess that’s a ‘no’ then,” she said irritably, shoving hair off her face.
“I’ll deal with Stefan before he makes it necessary for me to kill him.” Klaus slung the backpack over one shoulder and looked down at Rebekah, saw feathers in her hair and defiance in her eyes for a moment, before she was just disgruntled Rebekah again. “He did well by us once, I can be gracious.”
“I wish you would let him have his memories back,” she said softly. “He might…” she trailed off. What she would have voiced went unsaid, but Klaus could have guessed.
A bitter smile slipped across Klaus’ face. “Dear Bekah, the man that preys on rabbits and falls for the lure of doppelgängers is not the man for you. The man he once was, Stefan has buried under atonement and regret.”
A sullen scowl settled on her lips, but for once his little sister seemed disinclined to continue the well-worn argument. Perhaps the evidence of Stefan’s new obsession had given her pause. A task could keep her mind off things.
“I also plan to see my doppelgänger tonight. As such, I’ll leave ‘Mother’ to you.” The woman posing as their mother needed to be hedged in with compulsions. He would check Rebekah’s work when he arrived back at the mansion, but it should be a simple enough task.
Predictably, Bekah perked up. He left her on the park bench, made his way back up the street to where he had parked his Land Rover Defender, a boxy beast of an SUV, what the salesman had Klaus thought quite laughingly described as an antique, but was only from three decades previous, mid 80s. It was good for his image as a trust fund art student—”Hipster,” Kol had said gleefully—and its teal paint job stuck out amongst all the staid coatings of the many F150s passing by on the road. If only it was more comfortable to drive, he thought in annoyance, as he pulled himself up in the front seat. It was a short drive to what was colloquially known as the Boarding House, but it was a short drive everywhere in this microscopic town.
The dark building was wider than it was tall by a long shot, with a couple cars parked out front, one a cherry red Porsche. Klaus parked his SUV behind the Porsche, got out, made his way to the door, and knocked.
There was a soft sound of the displacement of air behind the door, before it opened, and there stood Stefan. A slightly puzzled expression twitched his eyebrows down over green eyes as he looked at Klaus, glanced out at his frankly ridiculous SUV, and then back at Klaus.
“Can I help you?” he asked.
Fitting a pleasant smile on his face, dimples to full effect, Klaus stepped up as if slightly nervous. “Uh, hello, do you own the red Porsche?”
“Yes, it’s mine.” Stefan crossed his arms over his chest. “It’s not for sale.”
“Oh, no! See, I was driving by—I’m new to the area—and saw your delightful car, and was wondering if I could ask you some questions about it?” He took several leading steps toward the car, pointing at it. “I like older vehicles—as you can see—but it’s not very sporty.” Very quickly, he continued to ramble. “My little brother likes sporty cars, but we won't let him get anything that wasn’t made in the past ten years, he’s crashed them so often, so he’s hopeless to ask.”
The set of Stefan’s shoulder’s smoothed out, and he reached out of sight of the door. “Well, if you're interested in older cars, I’m your guy.” With the jingle of keys, he stepped outside and shut the door.
Klaus smiled.

Reader Bingo Board 3: Left Column Bingo
For context, there were three full Bingo boards, then all three versions condensed to be 4x4 and finally all three versions condensed to be 3x3. Here is one way to score bingo on the third board.
Role Reversal
As I Lay Dying by princessoftheworlds
Summary:
Tom. The baby vampire one-tenth of her age. She cannot even bear to think about their kiss from last night. It had been pure lust at first. Then something genuine had started to leak into the kiss. Some tender affection, light and pure, had found a clutch on her blackened, dark heart, and she swore that, when there was a burst of warmth in the pit of her stomach, some tingling feeling almost like the clichéd butterflies, she was incapable of feeling such things. It was all too much, so she pulled away and caught a glimmer of hurt and disappointment in Tom’s eyes, something she was sure that he himself was unware of, before it was covered up by confusion. Immediately, that warm, tingly feeling evaporated For Tomione Day. Klaroline!AU
2. Pregnant Sex
Raging by Solnyshko (ivyandcarnation)
Summary:
Despite being married to her husband, Hermione Granger has an affair with Tom Riddle. Prompt: Affair Written for the 2018 Tomione SmutFest.

4. Aphrodisiac
(I'm cheating by just using a story that has known aphrodisiac in it)
Medium Mocha Double Chocolate Extra Whip Frozen Macchiacino by Elychia
Summary:
Without thinking, Hermione grabbed the arm of the person behind her. “Sorry darling." She said to the stranger she was now clinging to, “I was so caught up, I forgot about the line.” She turned back to Ron, a patronizing smile on her face. “Actually Ron, I’m already seeing someone.” She pulled on the arm in her grasp, tugging the stranger closer. “This is my boyfriend."

Hey, I'm new to KC fanfics...any good authors you know of+their works? Just stated reading TW series and it's so good!
Hi, nonnie! Thank you, I'm very glad you're enjoying The Wolf! 😊
This fandom is luckily blesses with many good writers. If you search for Klaroline Fic Rec on my blog, I've done tons of rec lists over the years.
But to rec some:
Just about anything by @definedareasofuncertainty , or coveredinthecolors on AO3. You'll find her works here. I'm a fangirl and will vouch for absolutely everything she has ever written. One of my all-time favorite authors, who has a brilliant Klaus voice and one of the most evocative and colorful writings in fandom.
@cupcakemolotov is a fandom legacy writer for a reason. There are more than 200 (!!!!!) fics for you to choose from and they are all brilliant! There's something for every taste, seriously cannot go wrong. Works here.
Borzoi has sadly only ever posted on FF.net, but you will not regret a trip to the past to read her works. You'll find some of all-time favorite fics here. If I had to rec one, it would be Parisian Deal, but Paradise Lost is fantastic too. Works here.
@highgaarden, who's but_seriously on AO3. Hannah has also written some of my favorite fics. This is a Harvest has a special place in my heart. But I have read almost everything she has ever written, and it's all fantastic. Works here.
@kirythestitchwitch writing is just delicious, the type that you can't get enough of because as soon as you start reading you just become addicted. Perfect dialogue, perfect wit, perfect characterization and Mikaelson shenanigans! Works here.
@morningstargirl666 has an epic TVD rewriting that starts all the way from a retelling of the Originals' past, and it's honestly impossible not to embrace it as canon after reading it. Works here.
Another one of my all-time favorites: @lalainajanes! Some faaaaantastic one shots and brilliant multi-chaps that worked as gateway drugs for me when I starting to read KC fics. Colored You In is perfection! But just over 200 fics for you to choose from. It's a feast. Works here.
@misssophiachase writes some of the best KC rom-coms fics, the type that just warms you heart and makes you fall in love with them in any setting. I'm WEAK for a good rom com and she has many to choose from! Works here.
These are just some of my favorites! 😊 But like I said, if you check out my recs lists, you'll find many more. Hope you find something there to your liking, nonnie!

☆。I know I haven’t been on here in the longest time, but I’m sorta back so here’s a Klaroline one shot as an apology. Please don’t hate me 🫣
𝑰𝑵𝑻𝑰𝑴𝑨𝑪𝒀 𝑰𝑺𝑵𝑻 𝑱𝑼𝑺𝑻 𝑺𝑬𝑿
SERIES ONE: KLAROLINE
𝗛𝗨𝗠𝗔𝗡 𝗖𝗔𝗥𝗢𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗘 𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗕𝗘𝗦
&
𝗛𝗬𝗕𝗥𝗜𝗗 𝗞𝗟𝗔𝗨𝗦 𝗠𝗜𝗞𝗔𝗘𝗟𝗦𝗢𝗡
"Okay favorite color?" Her voice was light and airy as she called the next question. Klaus leans behind her combing his slender fingers through her bouncy water curls. Humming softly to an older classical singer he favored.
His young blonde turns her head a little to retrieve his attention again—-not that she ever lost it, but he hadn't answered quickly like her last few turns.
The original chuckles lightly and kisses her hair, "that one's easy, it's yellow."
Caroline shakes her head but hums when he massages her scalp with his firm hands. She lets her body sink deeper into his spread legs, feeling her hands wave and sway with the bathtub water. Klaus's finger graze the tip of her temple before he pulls them back lightly.
"What was my youngest brother's name?"
The question itself didn't float around so hotly or discomforted as it once did in the first year of their relationship. At first he wouldn't answer any questions that she'd asked—-involving his past sibling. Always reminding how she didn't need to dig into something he'd never cared to talk about, which caused arguments and very emotional tears.
That was then though.
He hears her heart pump slightly more, a known excitement coursing through her delicate skin. He knew how much she enjoyed talking about 'the Viking days' with him. Always finding deep enjoyment in his stories of how he once lived his very old and tedious life.
"I personally love calling him Henry, but his name was Henrik." Her head tilts with a speckle of sass in her tone, knowing he'd be smirking behind her. It was true Caroline loved calling Henrik—-Henry or little hen, saying if he was still alive they'd be best friends. Making bracelets, playing with their magic, still remaining their fragile human selves, and playing innocent jokes on the rest of his dysfunctional family.
Klaus smirks--as she'd known. Thinking about how much a simple human girl could shift his dark and immortal life. So much of him he'd thought had died along with the his last human heart beat, she'd pulled out of his cold blocked off heart.
He continued to wonder where she'd been when he was human and begging to find a love such as the kind they'd experienced currently. Well of course he knew that she wasn't even a seedling when he was flesh and fragile skinned, but it never hurt to question.
The still hot bathtub water waves against her shifting to lean her head back toward his bare chest. Humming when his hands wrap to cover her bare---soft skin, pulling her closer in between his legs.
Klaus leans down to plant sweet lipped touches across her next, slowly tasting the salty taste of the lavender bubble bath. Nobody would or could ever understand his affection for the short blonde that leaned up against his chest in a fathomable way.
None could understand how badly he breathed her oxygen, ingesting the sweet tangling smell of her everything. Klaus had always lived to be the eternal bachelor, until the day she'd run into him while he was walking through the wood in mystic falls. Trying to plot ways to get the doppelganger to break his curse.
He remembered how she criticized him on being a weirdo for walking in the woods at nearly eleven at night. Her hair had been wet from the lake that she'd been taking a late night swim in, speckles falling down her neck, just above the beating line that pumped the invigorating liquid he'd feasted upon only hours before from a bystander.
It was like his heart skipped the centuries worth of beats it had over the thousand years. Watching her chest rise and fall ever so gently as she breathed in the thing he'd no longer needed. Caroline had been the first breath he'd breathed since before the sword went right into his heart.
That was the night he'd felt a crack run down the barrier of his heart when she'd smiled at him after he walked her up the white boarded porch of her mother's old home. Klaus had fallen quicker than he'd ever felt one could fall.
He trails his lips up her soft baby like skin, towards the under bone of her neck that connected to her ear. Nibbling at the skin there, then planting a tender kiss against the never there mark.
"Your turn, sweetheart," his voice whispers, listening to her barley sounded hum in return.
Caroline sighs gently, "What's my middle name?"
He doesn't ponder on the thought, she'd known that he knew every simple detail about her. Including the cloud shaped birthmark that was underneath her left breast, or the star tattoo that resided on her right ankle.
Truth was she loved hearing him say it, regardless if it was when they would disagree on something and he'd bluntly burst out the name to grab her attention in a less physical manner. Or when he'd say if she was testing his patients in the most loving---but childish ways.
"Elizabeth."
Her body tingled in the most deliciously delicate ways. Hearing each syllable fall from his fine wined lips, having the feeling of being held by the most dangerous man to walk among the world. The power that came with his detailed and vibrant accent every each of words he'd spoken to her, but the name---oh the name, it made her want to bury herself underneath the tongue in which he'd used it.
Nothing ever made a name so simple as Elizabeth could ever sound so special, so tender, so earnest, as Klaus saying it in the presence of her finely pierced ears. Caroline had imagined living her life until age's of normal humans came to take her away, a astounding journalism career, a husband she'd met by an accidental bump in a supermarket, marriage, two beautiful children--maybe even a dog, and the love that followed with the wish.
But being with an immortal hybrid who'd burn down the world for a scratch against her peach colored skin, for a wrong head turn to curse profanities against her clear mind, or even the simplest of coffee mistakes. A man who breathed in her skin, her eyes, her soul, it was all so delicate.
So alluring and fictional, she'd be with him until the universe said 'no mas'. Till her old timed out coral blue eyes seen nothing but bur without a pair of reading glasses, and he still looked like the gorgeous man he timelessly was.
simply perfection, in both senses of mind.

what are your top ten favorite klaroline fics?
hello, friend! so glad you asked. this is more than ten, and i have more in my bookmarks, plus there's stuff on ffn, but this has been 90m of my life, because i am incapable of brevity or culling. i'll probs do a part two? maybe? idk. i'll try.
fine china and dull silver by@yespumpkindoodlesthings
wrote a review here!
where it begins: by endoftheline7
i've been trying to write a review of this for fic rec friday for a month, but i just have so many incoherent screamy thoughts about it. it's one of my favorite reads on both klaus and caroline and plays with the idea that vampires are always a little bit the age they were when they died, no matter how old they get, and spins it into a sort of teen summer romance. klaus is mostly awkwardly thrilled to hang out with caroline, but still has a moment of oh, right. he's batshit and full of murder. caroline's less perfect qualities aren't glossed over. they're fully confronted and caroline doesn't just accept those things. she begins to learn how to turn them into strengths. also, i think about that conversation between rebekah and caroline at the beginning a lot. the whole thing about it not being their responsibility to correct the behavior of the awful men in their lives, but the alternative is to let those men burn themselves out, and that option sucks, too. very hmmmm. so much thoughts.
a statement for the masses (series, but it's one longer fic plus a short one shot) by but_seriously
i don't usually like human au in this fandom, because i think it's hard to make klaus human and in character without him being more awful than i can stand. like he ports pretty well to a shitty billionaire, but ew. corpo romance. not for me. rock stars, however? perfect. i love the rivalry. i love the family drama. i love the complicated relationship between rebekah and caroline.
leave the dust behind by whirly
tons to say about this, but it's mostly all about the ending for me. it's open, so if you like a strict hea resolution, it's probably not going to be a satisfying read for you. but i love this sort of slow ticking over of caroline's thought progression while she figures out what her relationship with klaus could or should be. there's a sort of balance between her own developing moral code and klaus's atrocities that needs to be struck. most of all, i love klaus's faith in her and his belief that they'll figure it out eventually.
someone that'll look like you by @cupcakemolotov
i probably don't need to talk this one up, but whatever. it's super popular for valid reasons. it has a number of my favorite things. amnesia! a more interesting augustine society! enzo! caroline being a stone cold badass! the dichotomy of klaus being both ancient and immovable and willing to bend for what caroline needs! all delicious things.
there's a devil on my shoulder where the angels used to be (and he's calling me the queen) by meet_the_girl_who_can
my favorite no humanity caroline fic. i have such a love/hate relationship with the humanity switch. it could have been so interesting, but tvdu mostly made it silly and samey and boring. this is more in line with what i can see caroline getting up to with her humanity off. like why would she just hang around mystic falls? other than the shitty budget of this shitty show, i can't think of a reason why she would. and i really enjoy how smart klaus knows he has to be with her. she's still caroline, but she can't be careful with him with her humanity off, and that has to be a scary prospect, because she was capable of hurting him badly when she did reluctantly care about him.
the fate makes for a lousy poet (longer fic plus a short one shot companion) by @stars-and-darkness
so. like so many of us, i love soulmates au, and this is probably my favorite in this fandom. but the part i go back to the most is the second fic. i love elena so much, because of that dichotomy of compassion paired with a near total inability to relate her own feelings and needs to those of other people, not in spite of it. she's a really interesting character and ella's treatment of that is so deft. elena absolutely cannot equate her own situation with caroline's, despite it being so obvious from the outside, because she's so mired in her own suffering and the indulgence of almost everyone she's ever known. she's simultaneously cruelly selfish and extraordinarily selfless and it's a wonderful read, as is the first caroline + mikaelsons fic. ella always writes concepts and does character work in a way that makes me go YES THAT EXACTLY THAT.
like the sun shines by @lalainajanes
this is like my #1 wish it wasn't unfinished fic, but i also absolutely do not care that it isn't finished, because it's just so much fun. canon barely goes here, which is so very favorite. i love a mostly everyone lives (contemptuously with each other) au. and i love caroline traveling the world. and i love caroline and bonnie in new orleans with secret, (probs) very important business. and i love a klaus who is still kind of the worst.
lost in the right direction (again, a series) by @kirythestitchwitch
there is nothing i love more than klaus and caroline traveling the world together and just doing stuff. all vibes, minimal plot. this series is A+++ murderfluff and it's enormously engaging, watching them figure out themselves and each other and whatever they have the potential to be together. totally one of my comfort reads
feel the madness closing in by yokan/@galvanizedfriend
this one is ugly and sad and awful and such a realistic take on caroline in new orleans during the events of the originals. i love so many things about it, but caroline's thoughts about whether he's been cursed or gone mad or if it was simply that klaus wasn't capable of loving someone without treating them like a possession are on point.
leave my rage to the sea and sun by sophisticatedfangirling
another ugly one. as much as i love that klaus never compels caroline, i can't help but think if he fucked up badly enough and felt like he'd lost everything else, too, he'd probably do it. this is so sad and slides pretty seamlessly into canon.
bride by brombones
this is one of those surprisingly layered, literary flavored fics. i'm planning on writing a dedicated review at some point (lololololol), but the very basic gist is caroline runs an experiment with klaus's blood and manages to completely fuck up her life to the point where she'll never be able to escape him, even if he never finds out the results. it is WILD with a fantastic use of silas that makes me want to shriek incoherently.

All This Time (I Thought) | Klaroline One-Shot
They always say "don’t fuck your best friend’s brother" and, well, she doesn’t have to worry about that because he obviously can’t stand her.
— — — — — — — — — —
Eating asphalt wasn’t on the list of promised excitement when Rebekah had suggested spending the summer at her family beach house, but Caroline was feeling impulsive. It didn’t help that Katherine encouraged her, which, frankly, should have been a sign not to do it, but no, she wanted fun , thought stepping onto Damon’s stupid, deathtrap of a skateboard was a fun idea! She really should have listened to Bonnie, who murmured about her bad feeling, or the gentle wobble of the contraption when she first stepped on. In any other scenario, she would have declined but Damon bet that she couldn’t and she’s never really reacted well to statements like that…or Damon. Apparently, she now realises, being ridiculously good at walking in heels does not translate to riding a skateboard.
