why i recommend it:

because it really taps into the inherent tragedy of prongsfoot - and also of azkaban - in a really woozy, visceral way. i had to triple-check the word count when writing this post because it seems fake that it could accomplish so much in so few words, but the way that horror mounts - even across such a short piece - as you realise where the story is going is unreal.

why i recommend it:

because it's an exception to my rules - i tend not to find tomione/volmione compelling, but this handles both characters so well [above all in that it dispenses with the flawless fanon hermione who turns up a lot in fics] that it puts you in a chokehold from the first paragraph. this is another fic which has a really gorgeous feeling of mounting horror - especially in the final chapter - which has you trying to work out what is and isn't real.

why i recommend it:

because it's the entire reason i've been banging the ginnymort drum. it's a great ghost story in its own right - and a ghost story in which the ghosts are the trauma of the war, which is a theme this fic explores really well - but it's also a really compelling look at just why these three people would end up entangled together which manages to do two unexpected things: convince you this is a relationship which might genuinely be functional; and be epilogue compliant.
