Prompt #12: Camping Published August 20, 2016 Rating: T Word Count: 1075 [links coming soon]
“Camping?”
Kurt smiled sheepishly across the table at his boyfriend of almost two years. They were on one of their many dates at the Lima Bean, Blaine with his usual iced coffee and Kurt with his favorite flavor of iced tea. For most of their date, Blaine had been resting his head in his hand, propped up by his elbow, which rested against the table. He stared at Kurt with pure adoration as he always did, because how could he not? Kurt was flawless, and Blaine just couldn’t look away.
But when Kurt had asked him if he wanted to go camping with him and his dad, his look of adoration temporarily morphed into one of surprise, with a bit of amusement mixed in.
“What?” Kurt asked. “What’s that look for?”
“I’m sorry,” Blaine replied with a laugh. “I just can’t see you going camping, especially not with your dad, and especially not willingly!”
Kurt rolled his eyes. “It’s not totally willingly, okay?” He sighed, and Blaine’s stare of adoration for Kurt returned. “Before I was born, my mom and my dad used to go camping all the time, and now that Dad married Carol, he wants to restart the tradition with Carol, Finn, and I. It turns out that Finn can’t go because football training starts early, but he still wants to take Carol and I camping. I, of course, protested; as much as I love my mom and anything that has to do with her, camping is just not my thing. But then Dad said I could bring you with us because Finn can’t go, and we could even have our own tent.” He raised his eyebrows suggestively. “So, of course, I had to agree, because how could anything ever be bad if you’re there? And, after all, I want to spend as much time with you as possible before school starts again next week.”
Blaine smiled. “Well, when you put it that way, I can’t pass that up!” He reached across the table and took Kurt’s hand. “Looks like we’re going camping!” Kurt grinned.
The day of the camping trip finally arrived, and Blaine arrived at Kurt’s house bright and early, just as Kurt had told him to. The sun had just started to rise, and the pink, purple, orange, and blue in the sky was extremely beautiful. He knocked on the door. “Car’s in the driveway!” Kurt called from inside without even opening the door. Blaine loaded his bag in the truck alongside Kurt’s and his dad’s, sat down next to Kurt in the middle of the van, fastened his seatbelt, and off they went. Kurt smiled at Blaine as Burt backed the car out of the driveway.
They arrived hours later at a campground in Northern Ohio. The sky was clear, and the sun shone brightly. Burt parked the car in a small shady area. “This is where we’re sleeping tonight, everyone,” he said, parking the car and unlocking the doors. Groaning, still waking up from their naps, Kurt and Blaine climbed out of the car, joining Burt and Carol on the dirt. Seeing Burt and Carol’s excitement made Kurt smile, and Blaine couldn’t stop himself from smiling, too.
“Time to go hiking!” Carol said, with jazz hands for emphasis.
The smile that had shone on Kurt’s face disappeared. “I’m sorry, what? Dad, I agreed to camping, but not hiking!” He glanced at Blaine for support; Blaine shrugged, nodding to indicate that he agreed.
Burt sighed. “I figured you would say that. Oh well, it was worth a shot. You guys can stay behind and set up the tents and supplies while Carol and I go hiking,” he said, gesturing to the trunk of the van, where the supplies were.
It wasn’t a much better option, but Kurt knew not to argue, and so he and Blaine agreed. They spent the next couple hours setting up the tents and the cooking supplies they’d need for dinner. Neither of them knew what they were doing, but they passed the time by singing their favorite show tunes. It took them a long time to get the tents to stand up on their own, but they sang their way through it.
By the time Burt and Carol returned, bright red and sweaty, from their hike, Kurt and Blaine were relaxing by the grill, watching dinner cook. “Perfect timing!” Blaine said, moving the last of the hotdogs to the plate. He handed out plates and hot dogs, and the four of them ate together, talking and laughing.
Once the hotdogs were finished and the plates thrown away in a nearby trashcan (“If I see any of you litter, I’m making you eat dirt, yes, even you Blaine,” Kurt had said earlier. Nobody was willing to take that chance.), Burt gathered some logs for a bonfire. It wasn’t long before the smell of roasted marshmallows filled the air, and Kurt breathed it in with a smile. “This is the only part of camping I actually, genuinely, enjoy,” he whispered to Blaine, who smiled and handed him a s'more he had expertly put together.
When the sun went down, Burt and Carol retreated to their tent for the night, and Kurt and Blaine to theirs. They lay together, legs tangeled together, kissing and cuddling for hours until they fell asleep.
Kurt and Blaine both woke up at various times during the night because the ground was uncomfortable, the bugs were too loud, and they could have sworn they heard a bear or another similar large animal walking around nearby. It didn’t take long for them to fall back asleep each time, though, and they didn’t remember much of it in the morning. The one time they did remember waking up in the middle of the night, though, was because of thunder. Kurt woke up first, and peeked out of the tent as Blaine sat up beside him, their legs still tangeled together. “It’s not raining,” Kurt reported back to Blaine. “Want to go look at the stars?”
“Of course,” Blaine said, yawning, crawling out of the tent after Kurt.
Together, they sat looking at the end-of-summer night sky, identifying constellations that they never would have been able to see from Lima. They held hands and kissed under the stars.
“I couldn’t have asked for a better way to end my summer,” Blaine said.
“Looks like I am a camping person after all,” Kurt replied.
A/N: Thank you guys so much for a great summer! I hope you all enjoyed reading these oneshots as much as I enjoyed writing them :1

Klaine Summer Challenge 2016 - Beach or lake
Word count; 1100? 1200? When it’s not 1am I’ll correct it, I promise.
When Kurt and Blaine had fled the city for the weekend and decided to stay in an adorable little cottage by the lake, they hadn’t anticipated to find out that Santana and Brittany had been staying in one of the summer houses of the same residence for the entire summer.
They arrived Friday night and unpacked the bare necessities they’d taken with them after which they decided to immediately take advantage of the gorgeous nature they were surrounded by.
A narrow path of rocks trailed from the very porch of the cottage to the dock that was located just as little as twenty feet down, surrounded by more plants in both the water and out.
“There’s no way I’m going to let my understudy take over a month after opening night” Kurt muttered walking out after Blaine, grabbing his hand immediately.
“After two years of marriage you still need an excuse to hold my hand?” Blaine laughed, raising his brows at the taller man.
“Oh, shut up” He shot not even a remotely convincing glare at him. “These rocks look vicious.”
“Yes, I’m sure that they are. They’re coming after you.”
Kurt scoffed, pulling at his husband’s hand slightly. “Let’s just get to the dock.”
Once they did they both set down their towels just where the dock started. Kurt made his way to the very end of the dock and the stairs there while Blaine sat himself down under the closest eligible tree. It was almost seven and the sun was going to be up for a good hour still, but the leaves of the tree provided a blissful shade for him and the book he’d chosen to bring with him.
As Kurt was dipping his toes into the water, testing what the situation with the temperature was although he knew for a fact there was no way it could be cold, a laugh sounded through the forest behind the beach strand.
The next thing they knew was the two women they knew very well stumbling towards the strand of beach in their bathing suits and sun hats, wide smiles on both their faces.
“That would be the greatest thing ever-“ Brittany, who had her arm wrapped around Santana’s waist, stopped in her tracks upon seeing their two anniversary-date-sharing friends. “What? Guys? Hi!” She let go of Santana, whose eyes had widened slightly, and sprinted towards Blaine first, squatting down and throwing her arms around him. “It’s so good to see you.”
Blaine chuckled, hugging the girl back. “It is. Hi.”
Meanwhile Santana strutted towards the end of the dock where Kurt was now sitting with his feet in the water.
“Hey.”
“Hi” Kurt grinned up at her, pulling her down to sit next to him.
“This is a surprise.”
“Is it really? I texted you about my summer getaway like two months ago” Santana said in amusement. “I did that to ensure that I wouldn’t have to see you, but here we are.”
“Oh, yeah. You did” Kurt nodded, turning to look at her with an expression that was barely apologetic. “I didn’t get the memo.”
“Clearly” She laughed. “Have you swam yet?”
“No, we just came here.”
“Well, we gotta fix that then” The latina declared with a grin and stood back up, taking both of Kurt’s hands in hers. “Let’s go.”
While Santana dragged Kurt into the lake, Brittany finally loosened her grip on Blaine and stood up, glancing at their significant others.
“Ooh” She exclaimed, clapping her hands together. “I’m gonna go swim as well. Are you coming?”
Blaine smiled and shook his head lightly. “Oh, no. Not right now. I’m happy right where I am.”
“You sure?”
“Yeah.”
With a shrug of her shoulders and a small smile returned back to Blaine, Britt paddled down the dock and helped Santana quite literally push Kurt down the stairs at the end of the wooden structure.
“God you two are persuasive!” Kurt laughed.
Blaine chuckled at all this that was going on, focusing back on the book - for all of two minutes.
“How are you not in this lake yet, Anderson?” Santana yelled at him from where she was just floating on her back in the water.
“Get in here!” Brittany gestured with her hands, smiling widely.
“You know” Kurt weighed in. “I would listen, because you will get dragged in here if you decline. You don’t want that.”
“I don’t” Blaine chuckled lightly, flipping his book upside down and placing it on the ground. “Fine.”
While the women whooped and hollered in joy at his decision, Kurt offered Blaine his hand and helped his husband into the water.
Now that Kurt’s hand was in Blaine’s, though, he wasn’t planning on letting go. But Kurt was one step ahead of him.
The second Blaine was in the water from shoulders down, Kurt pulled him by his hand as close to his body as he could and wrapped both his arms around the shorter man.
“There we go” Kurt smiled at him. “We both fear inanimate creations of mother nature and it’s totally okay.”
Blaine stared at Kurt and rubbed a hand over his face, his lips slowly stretching into a smile. “Oh, my god”
He leaned his head on Kurt’s shoulder and quietly laughed against it.
“But to be totally fair your fear is a little more understandable than my petraphobia that comes and goes.” Kurt continued, trying not to laugh but failing more or less.
“You’re fine right now, right? You tell me If you aren’t, okay?”
“Kurt, my feet are touching the sand. I can almost reach the dock from right here” Blaine smiled, perfectly endeared by how worried his husband was of his current welfare because of his kind-of-fear of open waters. “I’m very fine.”
So they spent a good half an hour just standing there enjoying the coolness of the water against their skin and the sun that was slowly starting to set in the sky, listening to the faint noises of the birds and bugs and whatnots in the trees and bushes all around them.
Santana and Britt eventually left back to their own lakeside cottage farther down the beach with promises of meeting up with them again tomorrow.
Blaine and Kurt also decided to get out of the water, settling themselves on the dock instead. Nobody else was around and with the exception of what sounds nature was consistently offering them it was very quiet.
Blaine leaned back and planted his hands on the wooden surface under them, allowing Kurt to lean against his chest better. The sun was now setting, falling back behind the trees in the distance, painting the skyline with various shades of pinks and purples.
“This was a good idea, wasn’t it?”
Blaine brushed his fingers through Kurt’s slightly wet hair and sighed contentedly.
“Yeah, absolutely.”

Klaine Summer Challenge - Hiking or Biking
A.k.a the one where mine and frankly everybody else’s Pokemon Go obsession is sneaked into this challenge. Whee.
Word count: 1373
"Hey, Kurt" Blaine whispered from behind his husband, arms wrapped around the man's waist. Even though it was summer and the weather was very hot and humid and they couldn't sleep with any covers on, they refused to sleep any other way than tangled together no matter what the season. "Are you still awake?"
Incoherent mumbling and rustling of the sheets under them.
"What?"
"We need to go on a hike tomorrow."
A silence.
"What?" Kurt repeated, furrowing his brows at the wall he was facing. What on earth was his husband on about? “It’s two in the morning, honey.”
"I know. But do you think that we could do that? A morning hike?"
Kurt hesitated for a moment, rubbing his eye with his hand. "Uh-" He shook his head slightly. "Yeah, sure. We can do that."
It wasn't an hour that he could question his husband's quest any further on, only agree to it and possibly regret it a little in the morning. He really just wanted to fall right back to sleep in the man's arms.
Kurt grabbed one of Blaine's hands on his waist and squeezed it gently. "Now can you sleep? I would like to."
Blaine chuckled softly. "Yeah. Yeah, I can."
"Okay, great. Good night. I love you."
"Mm, love you too."
When Kurt woke up at eight in the morning the next day without Blaine next to him he was slightly confused at first. He yawned and stretched out his limbs, falling back on his side and face against the pillow. He figured Blaine had probably just gone on one of his early morning walks and had wanted to leave him to sleep until he woke up enough to remember their conversation from last night.
“Oh no” Kurt groaned, pressing his face onto the pillow. He could still sleep. He totally could. Blaine would let him be.
That was what he thought for all of four long minutes, after which Blaine walked back into the bedroom already wearing his athletic gear and a smile Kurt couldn’t find obnoxious even under these circumstances.
“Hey” Blaine spoke softly. “Are you ready to get going soon?”
Kurt did a rain check on the clock. Yeah, still far too early to be awake on a Saturday morning.
“Uh-“ He sat up on the side of the bed and shot Blaine an apologetic smile. “I don’t really know if-“
Blaine grabbed Kurt’s hands and pulled him up from the bed, wrapping him in his arms.
“You promised, Kurt” Blaine stuck out his bottom lip, looking at him with what were by now patented to be his puppy eyes.
“Oh, no” Kurt shook his head with a laugh. “You’re not pulling that on me right now, I can’t say no to you-“ He tried to wiggle himself out of his husband’s grasp but he wrapped his arms tighter around his middle, also laughing.
“Come on.”
Kurt stilled and looked Blaine in the eyes, sighing. “Okay, fine. But just so you know, there’s no way in hell I will take a single even remotely jog-like step.”
Blaine kissed the top of his head, smiling at him widely. “Me, neither.”
Kurt turned around and headed to the closet to pull out more hike-appropriate clothes than his pajamas while Blaine went back into the kitchen to finish making his smoothie.
“Besides” Blaine said when Kurt walked into the kitchen after him, changed out of his sleepwear. “You can’t really catch any Pokémon if you’re running.”
Kurt looked up from the smoothie glass Blaine handed him and blinked at him slowly several times. “What was that?” He asked, raising his brows at the man. There was no way....
“Pokémon Go.”
Kurt just gaped at him. He couldn’t find the right words to express his opinion on this. Sam was already completely hooked on this game, why was he so surprised that Blaine was too?
“I actually took the liberty of downloading it for you too” Blaine announced with a smile, grabbing Kurt’s phone from the kitchen island and handing it to him, seemingly completely unaware of Kurt’s disapproval.
Kurt’s eyes widened impossibly wider. “You did what?”
Blaine looked up at him and frowned. “What’s wrong?”
“Really? You wake me up this early on a Saturday for a mobile app?” Kurt finally managed to ask, completely stunned. “If I’d only known that this was what I signed up for when I got married…”
The shorter man’s eyebrows rose before he burst out laughing, coming to stand beside Kurt to wrap an arm around his waist.
“First of all” Blaine started with a gentle smile, guiding them towards the door. “You totally knew what you were signing up for.”
Kurt stared at the man, rolling his eyes and trying hard to hide his amusement and endearment simultaneously.
“And you don’t actually have to play the game, if you don’t want to” Blaine said as they both slipped into their running shoes. “But I dare you not to” He winked, barely even containing his laugh at the ridiculous gesture himself.
Kurt on the other hand didn’t do so, even barely. “Oh my god.”
He took Blaine’s hand and they were out of the apartment.
Not two blocks away from their house Blaine stopped dead in his tracks in the middle of the sidewalk and Kurt had to pull him to the side so that the much older couple after them wouldn’t have to literally run into him.
“Okay, how about you wait until we’re in the middle of the forest before you spontaneously park yourself in the middle of the street?”
Blaine tapped his phone screen a few times, swinging what Kurt could only assume was a Poké ball at something that was pink and round and undoubtedly a Pokémon.
Only after this did he look up at his husband and raise his brows at him. “I caught Jigglypuff. What did you say?”
Kurt huffed out a breath. “Let’s just get to the hiking trail ASAP.”
Blaine didn’t abruptly stop and catch a single tiny monstrous thing on the rest of their way to the trail but once there, he didn’t hold back the joyous screams of ‘I found one, Kurt!’ or the less joyous ones exclaiming he already had whatever creature he came across. Drowzee, was it? That guy wasn’t very wanted, apparently.
Kurt kind of felt like he was going out with the most energetic overgrown seven year old he could imagine, holding Blaine’s hand and every now and then pulling him closer to him to keep him from walking into people or tripping on rocks.
However, by the time they were nearing the end of their hiking trail Kurt had his phone pulled out and the app open – Blaine noticed immediately.
With a wide smile he stopped simultaneously with Kurt who swiftly swiped and tapped the screen of his iphone a few times before throwing his head back and groaning in frustration.
“Another Rattata? Seriously? I have three of these.”
What he’d said only caught up to Kurt himself when Blaine turned to look at him with possibly the widest grin he’d even seen.
“What?” Kurt asked, looking at his husband a little defensively.
“Nothing” Blaine shook his head with a smile, squeezing the man’s hand. His eyes were practically glistening with joy. “Maybe you should try one of these.”
Blaine tapped the ‘items’ bubble and then on the incense, making the circle of purple smoke appear around Kurt’s trainer avatar.
“I won’t have to worry about you straying off for days to catch them all, or will I?” Blaine asked Kurt in amusement.
“I don’t think so. I feel like I’m the one who’s going to be dragged along with you to the ends of the earth because of this game just to find something other than that bee-looking elephant or the stupid lilac rat” Kurt said with a growing smile that almost matched Blaine’s.
“Yet you love me.”
“Mmh” Kurt agreed, leaning in to kiss his husband and ignoring the buzzing of his phone indicating a Pokémon close by in his hand.
Blaine cupped his head then, leaning back with a smile still on his lips. “You should really get that. It’s Eevee, Kurt!”
#if there's anyone who disagrees with pokemon or pokemon go in general i am very sorry#but i love this game almost as much as Blaine does#klainesummerchallenge#klainesummerchallenge2016#klaine fanfiction
