so the kkd is the second football league. in the netherlands we have two professional leagues, de eredivisie (the one az plays in) and the kkd. so it’s dutch championship, except the level is way lower

each year one-up-to-three teams (depending how play-offs go) promote to the eredivisie and one-up-to-three eredivisie teams relegate to the keuken kampioen divisie

they have, from the top of my head, 20 teams. this includes, again from the top of my head, four youth teams because the knvb (koninklijke nederlandse voetbal bond, the dutch fa) is biased af and wants teams like psv and ajax to thrive. az and utrecht are also in there with their u21 teams. but they obv can’t promote to the eredivisie (from now on called ‘ere’ for short). 

why does draco not keep playing in the u21 team of az in the kkd, you ask? well, 1) i reckon he already captained the team the year before, so it’s old hat & 2) a change of scenery does a person good. 

so at 23, he returns to the team, joins pre-season, and it turns out This Will Be The Season for him. the kid from the youth team got good.  

said kid from the youth team also is a tad bit of a problematic prof because he’s not much for rules and schedules (don’t get me wrong, he shows up on time and does all the trainings, but this is also the kid staying up all night playing fifa and doing far more activity than he should before games)
