summary: the team has a time after attending an aces game

The final buzzer blares through the Mohegan Sun arena. After a hard fought forty minutes plus one overtime period, the defending champion Las Vegas Aces had finally pulled away enough to beat the Sun in their home court.

The game had been hard fought, but a thrill to watch as the two teams projected to meet in the Finals matched up. 

“Hey, where’s Azzi?” 

Paige scans the nearby crowd. It has thinned out considerably as people headed out after the end of the game, and the long line of fans who had lined up to meet her has finally dispersed. 

Ice points down toward the court. They had been seated near mid-court, a few rows up, the perfect spot to see all the action. Paige looks toward the visitor’s bench and sees that most of the team has left for the locker rooms, but Kate Martin is still down on the court being interviewed. Paige tilts her head up to watch it on the big screen. 

“What was it like coming into an opposing arena, against one of the top teams in the league, and playing them at home?” 

“It’s always hard going against such a good team at their home court.” Kate wipes at her forehead with the towel wrapped around her neck. “They have some really passionate fans, so that’s always fun to play against.” 

“Speaking of passionate fans, we noticed that after you hit that big three late in the overtime period, that you pointed into the stands. Were you trying to send a message to the fans?” The interviewer holds the microphone up in anticipation of the answer.

“Oh,” Kate laughs, appearing flustered. “No, that wasn’t meant as anything towards the fans. I saw a couple of friends in the crowd, so I was just giving them a little shoutout.” 

“We’ll let you get some rest. Congratulations on the tough win.” 

Kate thanks them, and Paige watches her walk away as the interviewer continues wrapping up the game with someone from the studio. 

Instead of heading toward the tunnel, Kate rounds the bench, jogging up a few steps to meet- Azzi? 

Paige finally spots her girlfriend, standing a few rows up from the floor, smiling as Kate comes to greet her. Paige watches them chat, looking way friendlier than she would expect from people who had barely spent two days together.  

“Did you find Azzi?” KK comes up behind her. “Are y’all ready to go?”

KK pokes her head around Paige’s shoulder. “Oh, she’s talking to Kate! Money!” She shouts, waving her arms back and forth in greeting. 

Kate nods and waves in acknowledgment, but she stays talking to Azzi who laughs at something she says. 

“She’s pretty cool, for an Iowa girly.”

KK doesn’t notice how Paige’s face darkens in response. 

“Did they spend a lotta time together? At the camp?” Paige remembers Azzi mentioning Kate once or twice, and remembers seeing her holding a puppy on Azzi’s instagram story, but nothing to suggest their relationship would be as friendly as it seems now. 

She watches as someone with a camera approaches them, and motions for them to take a photo. Azzi nods in approval, and Paige watches them pose, Kate’s arm slung around Azzi and her hand around her waist.

It can’t be more than fifteen seconds, but it feels like the longest fifteen seconds of Paige’s life. They finally separate, and the camera stays on them as they hug goodbye. 

Paige glares as she watches Kate watch Azzi walk away. She jogs down the steps to meet her, and risks slipping her hand beneath Azzi’s sweatshirt, one of her own favorite sweatshirts, to graze the skin of her lower back. 

Azzi turns into Paige’s embrace, eyebrows raised at the bold touch in such a public place. 

“Hey, you ready to go?” Paige asks, gruffly. 

“Yeah, I was just saying hi.” Azzi raises a hand to scratch gently at Paige’s stomach through her t-shirt. “You okay?” 

“Yup.” Paige says, trying to shake this irrational jealousy. She guides Azzi back to the group and they all head back to their cars. 

Paige pulls out of the parking lot, tires squealing as she heads toward the freeway, not even taking the time to put her phone on the AUX. 

“Paige!” Azzi scolds from the passenger seat. 

“Sorry,” Paige grunts, easing up on the gas after merging onto the highway. 

“What are you so pissed about?” Azzi asks, grasping for Paige’s hand on the gear shift and pulling it onto her lap. “The game? I didn’t know you cared about the Sun that much.” 

Paige sighs as Azzi locks their fingers together, relaxing a bit in her seat. “It’s nothin.’ Just tired, I guess.”

Azzi reaches her free hand over, running it through the hair at Paige’s temple. “You haven’t been sleeping enough lately.” 

She’s right. They’ve spent more nights apart than together lately it seems, with their family obligations and Paige’s Overtime trip. 

Paige leans into the touch. From the backseat, she hears a fake gagging noise, and then the sound of someone being smacked. 

“Leave them alone, KK.”

“Thank you, Ice.” Azzi smiles at her before it drops as she sticks her tongue at KK. 

They drive in silence for a few minutes, before it is broken by KK. “The Aces posted Azzi and Kate talkin’ after the game. ‘Our Rook had a career game while being cheered on by UConn star Azzi Fudd.’ The comments are goin’ wild.” 

Paige’s hand tightens on the steering wheel. “What they sayin’?” 

“‘Oh, y’all are so cute. The duo I never knew I needed.”

Paige takes a deep breath. 

“Oh, shit y’all got edits already too.” KK passes her phone up to Azzi who drops Paige’s hand to her leg to hold it. 

A familiar song starts up and Paige groans, hand gripping and squeezing Azzi’s thigh. “Dude, what the- that’s my song!”

“You have dozens of edits to that song, you can’t spare one for me?” 

“If it was just you.” Paige grumbles. 

Azzi turns to Paige then, smirking. “Aww baby, are you jealous? Is that what’s got you in this mood?”

“I saw the way she looked at you.” Paige finally bursts out with it. 

“I only went to say hi because you were so busy with all your fangirls.” Azzi is smiling, but there’s a hint of edge to it. 

“Bruh,” Paige turns to look at Azzi, incredulous. “What am I supposed to do? Say no to my fans?” 

“I didn’t say that. There’s nothing wrong with you taking photos with them, just like there was nothing wrong with me chatting with Kate, right?” 

“Right.” 

“Right.” 

Silence fills the car again. 

Ice pipes up from the back. “Are y’all gonna be staying in Paige’s room tonight, because I don’t wanna be in the apartment for the makeup.” 

KK and Ice both crack up and the tension in the car is released as Paige and Azzi laugh too. 

Later that night, as they’re about to go to bed, Azzi speaks, voice slightly muffled against Paige’s shoulder as she cuddles into her chest. 

“Hey, you know I don’t actually care that you always say yes to pics, right? I love that you’re so sweet to your fans.”

Paige hums in response. “I know.”

“And you’re not actually mad that I was talking to Kate, right?” Azzi slips a hand under Paige’s shirt, drawing patterns on her stomach with her fingers. “She’s just a friend.” 

“I know,” Paige sighs, resting her cheek on the top of Azzi’s head. “I was just being dumb and jealous.” 

“Nah, you just love me a lot, huh?” Azzi tilts her head up to kiss her, and then they don’t speak for a long while.

In the morning, when Paige opens instagram, the first post that loads is a video of Azzi and Kate hugging goodbye. She muffles a laugh, seeing herself glowering in the background. 

And no, Paige isn’t mad, but who can blame her when she posts one of the pregame selfies she had taken with her girl, their foreheads pressed together as they beam at the camera.

Ooh delulu maybe fic-like scenario hit me… the team goes to see Aces v Sun play (which is the first sign of delulu since they don’t play at Sun home court until Sept but anyhoo) then afterwards the team like goes to chat with liv but then azzi sees kate out of the corner her eye approaching and they kinda meet halfway to greet each other and have a chat but yeah they be laughing it up and then the cameras take a pic of them. Whole time P is seething and KK’s tryna be all like oh kate’s cool which doesn’t make things better 😭

And then when kate and azzi’s interaction gets posted online, a bunch of ppl are like “ooo they kinda cute tg” and start making edits and shit. And Azzi’s obviously oblivious to all this, like she was just chatting to her new friend, meanwhile P is seeing it all and barely holding it tg lmao and so she does something unhinged like post an Azzi cruise dump and captions it “my big head” or sum 😏🙂‍↕️

Ok that last post made me think about Trigun characters and Animal Crossing

Knives would have a perfectly curated town. Of course the museum is complete. He has every type of flower, but they're all sectioned off so the colors don't clash. He practices Villager Discrimination against ugly villagers. Bought Raymond on ebay. Surprisingly fond of Isabelle. Will time travel whenever he wants, for whatever reason he wants.

Lagato doesn't actually care about AC. He has a town for the sole purpose of getting fruit/items/etc. for Knives. When Knives got upset that he wasn't putting effort into his town, he decided to put an hour aside each day to properly decorate it like it's a part-time job. Still can't remember any of his villagers' names. Made his avatar have blue hair like him.

Vash has a super cute town. Doesn't usually let villagers move out because he loves them all. Sometimes he makes headcanons about villagers that they want to travel, and then he'll let them go so he's not "holding them back." Always attends KK's concerts. Cried a little at the first one. Not against time travel, but not motivated enough to use it usually. Will use it if he forgets a villager's birthday though. Always receiving stuff from Knives's town. Knives once attempted to force him to re-terraform his entire island because he didn't like it. This resulted in a serious fight. Always makes sure his character is gucci'd down to the socks.

Wolfwood says he only plays AC because the kids at the orphanage pester him to (but you know he finds it calming). He makes the goth, halloween-themed town with the edgy fake corpses in the basement. Never bothered to get all the flower types. Vash helped him get all the fruits though. Gets super pissed off when Redd sells him fake art. Uses a guide because convenience is king. Doesn't bother with time travel, too much effort. He plays pretty normally by himself, but when he goes to the kids' towns, he makes sure to trample all the flowers and hit all the townspeople with his net. If the kid starts crying though, he does his best to fix it; he doesn't actually like hurting their feelings. He never uses medicine to fix his face after getting attacked by bees.

Meryl was the first person to complete the main island "quest." She doesn't get why people time travel: doesn't that take away from the feeling of accomplishment when you complete it the good old-fashioned way? Did time travel once when she missed her favorite villager's birthday though. All her buildings are very sensibly located. Reloaded her island choices until she got the color of the airport she wanted and a layout with the town hall near the center. Terrified of tarantulas. The first time she got Tarantula Island, she accidentally closed the game without saving. Always has a cute, custom-designed outfit on.

Milly doesn't actually play AC very much. She time travels as she pleases, and as a result, her entire island has turned into an overgrown meadow. It gives Meryl and Isabella a heart attack. Brings gifts whenever she goes to her friends' islands. When she goes to Wolfwood's or vice versa, they spend the entire time hitting villagers. You know she's rocking that ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) face and the froggy outfit. Tarantula hunter supreme.

Roberto does not have a switch. Milly, his niece, begged him to try out her AC once though. He cut down trees until the bees came for him. He doesn't understand the appeal of this game.

Any predictions on how the music tournament will go? Personally i don’t know how the new songs were recieved, but out of the og songs i expect - and hope - kk soul, kk disco, bubblegum kk and stale cupcakes to battle it out at the end.

I mean already I'm getting so many tags like "HOW could you put THE TWO BEST SONGS against each other IN ROUND 1" about songs I thought nobody gave a shit about lmao so honestly I have no idea (and it's not just one of you it's a lot of people)

bubblegum kk I think might get the raymond treatment, though not quite as bad. it'll make it a few rounds but enough people are sick of it that it won't make it to the end. if you were around during peak NL days those first 8 notes especially might trigger something in you because so many people had that song playing in every room of every house and you're just trying to check out their got damb dream town.

stale cupcakes I think will make it far but I hope it doesn't because I kinda hate it lmao solid F rank song idk why so many people seem to like it. that's a lie I know exactly why and it makes sense that people who play relaxing games like AC would like soft music but that kinda music gets on my nerves

there have been a lot more close match ups than I expected though. the only one so far that I suspected might be a bad round 1 matchup is ska vs forest life, but I still half expected forest life to be blowing ska out of the water since I'd never seen anyone mention or use KK ska before

It seems that some advice for you this July is that no matter how loss, isolated and abandoned you might feel during June, you should never give up on your goals. It might be because life is currently confusing and money is a bit tighter than you’d prefer. It seems that the advice for this July is to persevere and stay resilient, no matter what happens next.

The warning for July is regarding high standards, if not towards others, then towards yourself. It can be interpreted in two different ways: your expectations of others tend to be unrealistic, to the point that you don’t even let someone into your life, OR, your expectations towards your own progress, skills, talents, and self-worth aren’t up to par to what you would have hoped or planned for. Like, if you’re still a student, you were expecting to have aced the exam, but when the results arrived, you saw that you had made 2 mistakes. So instead of celebrating a near-perfect score, you mentally criticize yourself for not acing the exam. Does this scenario make sense to you?

A surprise for you this July is more of a forewarning of sorts. It feels like you might get dragged into an argument/dispute of sorts. Either that or someone might bully you/be hostile towards you this July. If not this then, stay vigilant and manage your stress levels. The surprise for the moment requires you to be cautious and not do anything that would cause you to deal with unnecessary drama.

oh right. last night i dreamt that i was playing animal crossing new leaf, and was wandering on the main street after 10pm and all the shops had closed. the music was kind of atonal, like some of the late night themes from the first AC. i remembered that Club LOL is usually open late so i wandered over there- the sign was lit up like it was a saturday night KK slider concert, but inside was set up like a campsite. dr shrunk was sleeping in an open tent and looked like he was having a nightmare, and 3 villagers wearing matching dr shrunk suitjackets and Mii heads that looked like Jon Arbuckle were scattered around the room, sitting on barrels and chairs and sleeping bags and playing instruments.

When I interacted with Dr Shrunk, my character shook him awake and all of the Jon Arbuckles simultaneously vanished in puffs of smoke- he tiredly explained that he was having his yearly “tuba nightmare”, and then said that if i went to the general store tomorrow he’d tell them to give me a special thank you gift for waking him up from the dream. then i was ejected from the building and back onto main street via a screen transition and woke up shortly after

Chief Mod Edgeworth: We do have a collection of different AA sprites both 2D and 3D. However, you can also find some clean sprites in the Sprite Gallery located in the Ace Attorney Wiki. You can also find others in court-records.net.

Considering most of the 3D sprites from DD and SOJ are from court-record.net links to sprite pages for each character made by Co-Mod and other past mods, I’m not going to go farther than that. Just know that us and other past mods have gained these sprites over the course of the years. Crossover games are different because they have their own game and are part of their own universe. You can purchase Professor Layton VS Phoenix Wright without the need to purchase the Ace Attorney Trilogy or the likes. The same goes with Project X 2 and Ultimate Marvel VS Capcom 3. 

However, the same cannot be said for the Asinine Episodes. In order to play them, you have to purchase the games, those being Spirit of Justice or The Great Ace Attorney Adventures. However, it gets even more complicated. For Asinine episodes for The Great Ace Attorney, you have to literally purchase The Great Ace Attorney Adventures... wait for it... IN JAPANESE. You heard it right folks, there is no asinine episodes for The Great Ace Attorney in English, not even in the Pre Order for The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles. Cue... 

For Spirit of Justice, you can get the Asinine Episodes for Phoenix Wright and Apollo Justice in English. Unfortunately, it’s not available in the app you can purchase from the apple store. That tells me it’s only available on certain Spirit of Justice games. That’s the main issue with the Asinine DLC cases. Neither are canon, you have to purchase the games to achieve them and you have to purchase specific kind of games. It’s not like the crossover games where they are their own separate universes that are allowed to be separate from the games. Keep in mind that we don’t consider the bonus episodes won in Professor Layton VS Phoenix Wright game canon to its own game. 

As for your suggestion, we may consider it but do keep in mind these things take time to process because it needs to be approved by all the mods. Like it took me months to get the updated and new rules approved or they’d have been done at the first of January.

Chief Mod Edgeworth: Just because I’m critical about Ace Attorney, that doesn’t mean I’m not a fan. In fact, the most genuine fans are often the most critical about things they love. In fact, the old mods Modot and Modthorne are much more critical about Ace Attorney than me, if you read some of Modot’s past essays or watch Modthorne’s livestreams. Most of my criticisms are in the form of tags, meaning they’re not as big as you seem to be making them out to be. 

Just look up my tag and look through my past essays on Manfred von Karma, Dick Gumshoe, Wrightworth, Kristoph Gavin and the 20th Anniversary Essay on how I got into Ace Attorney. If I was to describe why or how much I love Ace Attorney, it would be a whole novel long compared to a couple of tags with my criticism. 

Seriously, the only times I ever make any criticisms about Ace Attorney are in tags and maybe a paragraph letter. That’s nothing to cry home about really. Even the tags in the letter you referenced is something many AA fans agree with. 

Now, if you want to know what Ace Attorney... anything I hate or don’t like.... the anime. I didn’t like it at first, but it seems I am hating it more the deeper I get into Ace Attorney. At this point, I hate the anime Ace Attorney so much that it is on my blacklist of things I will never mention or talk about. So... now you know.

Ah, I see. I was mostly confused why you made the assumption. Though, taking that Maya always wears that uniform in the game, I don’t entirely blame you. At the same time, the game always focuses on when Phoenix and Maya are at work, being why you see Phoenix in a suit and Maya in a kimono. That isn’t to say that’s what they wear outside of work. There are many Official Artworks where Maya is seen wearing different kimonos, a swimsuit, a school uniform and this.

These were early designs, but my point still stands. It’s likely she wears casual kimonos and yukatas in Kurain. Hey, I only asked why you thought she wore the same outfit. I didn’t say she wears shirts and pants outside of work. Kurain is a very Japanese religious village, so I’m sure everyone there wears kimonos and yukatas of different designs.
