People in the late 20th century thought the fundamental arc of human history was exploration, whereas now it looks like it's information processing.
In traditional science fiction, the historically progressive human urge is wanderlust, the pull of unknown geography, horror vacui or amor vacui depending on how you look at it. Those writers invoke the elapse of time that separated Kitty Hawk from the moon landing. They recite a procession of discoverers that includes Columbus or the Polynesians and whose next logical steps are space colonization and superluminal travel. Era-defining technologies are transportation technologies. You still get this now, sometimes. In a much-dunked-upon scene in Star Trek: Discovery (2017), a character's litany of great inventors includes the Wright brothers, the guy who invented FTL, and Elon Musk.
The corresponding fear, of course, is alien invasion—that we are not Columbus but the Indians.
Now, the developments actually restructuring people's lives are either of the computer or on the computer. The PC, the internet, smartphones, social media, LLMs. Bits, not atoms. It has been this way for some time, though it hasn't fully made its way into culture. The progenitors of the new future are writing, the printing press, the abacus. We can see the arc clearly in retrospect, now that the future seems likely to be defined by machine learning.
Just as before, there is some anxiety that our trajectory will lead us into the grip of alien intelligences, horrendous and devouring.
If you go back to the period stretching (roughly) from the late 19th century through the Second World War, stories often hinge on wonder-substances and novel fundamental forces. This was, of course, an era in which a new force or element was turning up every other week. You couldn't swing a cat without hitting one. They discovered guncotton when some guy left his fouled lab coat next to an oven. Hence, Vril, the Ray, the "eighth and ninth solar rays" of Burroughs's Mars. In later stories, this sort of stuff is generally secondary, though superhero fiction preserves more of the old mentality.

🌟🌟 obligatory one for lulu and purple elle too? also feel better soon n_n
🌟 Drop one of my characters’ names in my inbox and I’ll tell you 10 facts about them 🌟 || @mathcs (Thx btw, least hearing's coming back a bit--)
Tumblr media
Unlike most, Elle only takes lukewarm baths or showers as to not dry out her skin. There's also probably not a single skincare routine she hasn't tried and/or is currently using.
Throwing knives as her weapon of choice was mainly due to Victor refusing to let her engage in close range, but also not wanting her to face gun recoil. Engraving the cats was her personal touch.
Elle owes at least half her weapon proficiency to Rideaux, her teacher. His comments hurt at times, but she'll say it also toughened her up. And it taught her how to lie to Victor so there wasn't a murder that night.
Elle began eating tomatoes at around the time she turned 13 after she read tomatoes help reduce sunburn risks. She's no enthusiast, but she won't turn down a good pasta margherita anymore.
Sometimes Elle has Victor braid her ponytails for her to relive old times. She notes Victor takes way longer to do it than her Dad, though.
She's considered the nicknames "Elly", "Noelle", "Ella", and "Elliana" to try and combat the Elle Conundrum when hanging out in Star's dimension. Her younger self just calls her "Big Me"/"Big Elle", which works too (for now).
Despite living in such a secluded spot, Elle does have a small social circle she met online. She's had a couple girls nights over at their homes (though she has to keep her phone glued to her every hour in case Victor goes full helicopter parent).
Elle did actually manage to secure the newer Bunnykins doll after the original got busted for its use of poached monsters. She also has other Bunnykins merch like her favorite Bunnykins Pink pen. Jude's seen what evils she's done with that.
Sometimes she'll summon the Spyrite Origin to help practice how to be an older sister to the little Elle. She also asks questions that Victor wouldn't answer under constant torture (like what Direct Tethering is).
Her usual online screen name is "Pinky Promise🌠" as a loving memory to how she promised Victor they'd go to Canaan together. Though they never made it, she considers the promise met since they're still around post-Trial.
I'mma do 50/50 for SMT IV AU and Canon cause you know why lol
Tumblr media
For some reason, Lulu has an odd affinity for trying to play with others' GHS screens. Almost makes you think he's used to it...
Getting fat was all Julius' doing. He thought Lulu needed more food since he was underweight as a kitten, and suffice to say it worked out great--
If you asked him where his favorite spot to be pet, he would say his stomach. At his weight, it's hard to reach and lick without some real kitty extortionist magic.
The bell on his collar was added to make sure if he ever sneaks into the food cabinet, of you'll hear him alright. Still manages occasionally, though.
Due to a mixup, Lulu has drank a Life Bottle before. Luckily all it did to him was give him a drug high only the strongest catnip could ever hope to replicate.
Despite hating water like most cats, Lulu is actually a really good swimmer. He's had to learn due to Issachar sometimes tipping their rowboats on accident.
Though Burroughs does embellish this speech, Lulu actually 'talks' pretty sophisticated in cat language. Other cats from Tokyo can't understand his meows very well because of it.
After many an accident zapping himself straight to the River Styx, Lulu has refined his Thunder Reigns to pierce through Null/Reflect. He's also used this to power can openers he finds to open his cat food cans when humans say 'no more'.
Lulu's favorite songs are hardcore metal. If Jude ever played one in the car, he would yowl along with the vocals cause he finds it fun. Not even Burroughs can tell you why he's like this.
Lulu has tried using the Soulstone from Amaterasu to try and make Jude's car a flying racecar. Alas, since tires don't work in the air, they usually stay grounded so they're not locked to a certain speed.

WHY DO CAT HICCUPS HAPPEN
Have you ever witnessed your cat hiccuping? Yep, you browse that correctly: Not sternutation or chirping or any of the opposite variety of amusive noises felines create, however, really hiccuping? Let's check up on why cat hiccups happen and once to fret — and once to only laugh.
Tumblr media
"A cat is a puzzle for which there is no solution."
-Hazel Nicholson
Cat Hiccups in Action
First up, if you've not witnessed the development of cat hiccups, consider this video to visualize what all the upheaval is concerning. As you'll see, it feels like the feline is on the verge of spewing up a tangle; instead, there's simply a series of little hiccuping motions.
The Science behind Cat Hiccups
From a doc purpose of reading, a cat hiccups once her diaphragm decides to contract at precisely the same time because the part of her vocal organ that homes the vocal cords closes. Generally, this happens because of nerve irritation problems, and at alternative times it's a consequence of chowing down too quickly on food and ingesting air at an equivalent time. (Fun factoid: This could conjointly cause acid reflux in humans.)
Hang On, What Concerning Hairballs?
Tumblr media
"The cat is above all things, a dramatist."
-Margaret Benson
Oh, I ought to add that the scourge of the feline that's a tangle can even really cause a cat to hiccup. This occurs once the cat's throat tries vainly to expel or move the fur that's accumulated; however, instead irritates things and prompts a hiccup.
Are Hiccups Associated With Feline Farting?
Despite the recognition of this video, which shows a somewhat fat cat slumped down and emitting noises from each the mouth and butt, there's no conclusive scientific proof to counsel cat hiccuping and feline flatus area unit in any method connected. So, let's move on.
How Involved Ought I Be Concerning Cat Hiccuping?
If your cat suffers from stray, little bouts of hiccups, you've probably got nothing to be excessively involved about. In fact, she's most likely simply feeding on her food too quickly. However, suppose your cat appears to be hiccuping for extended than every day at a time. In that case, it's most likely time to consult a vet, as there may be more prominent ailments and problems at play. Feline respiratory disease is one such concern, cardiovascular disease or undesirable parasites. Oh, and there might even be an allergic reaction at work. Yes, with cats, it's thus typically invariably concerning the food.
What Am I Able To Do Concerning Cat Hiccups?
Tumblr media
"Like all pure creatures, cats are practical."
-William S. Burroughs
First up, don't stress your cat out if she's hiccuping. Keep things calm and provides her some house.
Next, do a quick survey of your cat's food. Will she scarf it down method too quickly? If thus, strive to serve smaller parts throughout the day. Also, ensure that she invariably has access to water — and is genuinely drinking it. If you're cohabiting with one of those kitties UN agency refuses to drink settled water out of her bowl, scrutinize studying an inexpensive bubbler — generally, our finical friends like cascading water. Because, you know, it clearly tastes thus wholly different.
Also, if hairballs appear to be tied to any hiccuping action, raise a vet for recommendations to manage the condition.
Can I Use Human Remedies for Cat Hiccuping?
Finally, the record shows that the old remedies to cure human hiccuping should most likely not be used on cats. That features scaring your feline stupid, attempting to urge her to carry her breath (good luck in addition), and the bartender's trick of biting into a lemon doused in angostura bark bitters. Seriously, the last one genuinely works — for humans.

Butch aka Marigay aka “The White Cat” symbolizes in Burroughs writings the “Searing White Light of Truth” Or as Roger Holden remembers it, in his “Alternative, Affordable Treatment for Feline Leukemia The "Burroughs' White Cat" Challenges the Board” “When as a gift from William, Marigay first entered my life in January of 1997 at an estimated age of 3 or 4 years, he was a tough 13 pound white cat with an immense territorial control instinct. When he was outside, the neighbors knew him as a bully cat whom thought of himself as king of the city block. Marigay dissappeared the week of Williams' death and funeral (August of 1997). He had been picked up by the local animal "control" as a vagrant cat. I rescued him from the kitty prison and subsequently nicknamed him Butch. Now whenever he would go outside I would go out with him and monitor his locations. In late May of 1999 Butch (Marigay) was chased under my porch by a German Shepard dog. It was only the next morning that I realized that he had been bitten and his health was declining rapidly. The prognosis by the veterinarian was that Butch would soon die from cat leukemia. His white and red blood cell count seemed hoplessly low. The docter told me he had 1 to 3 months at the most to live. This was a devastating blow to me as he had all of his leukemia shots since 1996 and previous testing showed that he had no virus. “ https://www.instagram.com/p/Coe01MDsbDuaTobg6QMZXa34vF9Z77AYmlBxoI0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The Posterchildren Review
So I read this on @sleepycyb0rg‘s rec, thank you!!!! By Kitty Burroughs @quipquipquip
It was pretty good AND it was diverse (so like, hop on that)
The pacing was kind of weird, the beginning was slow, but once I got through it, I was really into it
The characters are amazing BUT there are too many. I had a hard time following them all, esp with the monikers as well (side note: Ellery and Ellie were two different characters and luckily they didn’t have big parts but it was a little confusing at first)
The super system was super interesting, once I got a handle on it. the fact that I had to use outside posts to get it was a little disappointing, but it was cool and consistent.
Best part of this book were the relationships. Luckily, this author understands the importance of platonic and familial relationships, so they really shined. Zip and Mal at the end were so super sweet, although the being was rocky and I was pissed at Mal.
Apparently an OT3 is in the works. I’m V excited for that.
The characters had some great internal and external arcs, and I always think the characters are the most important part of the book
Zip was my fave, she’s adorable and I love when there unapologetically good characters (Earnest as well, but Zip just struck a chord with me)
There was an ace character!!!! The word wasn’t used, but the experience was explicitly stated and author confirmed on her blog. I think later we might get the word itself. Downside: the ace character was my least favorite of the main characters :(
I think this might have been better to read each issue instead of all at once, but I’m not sure as I was not able to test my theory
Overall, 4 out of 5 stars!!! I’m pumped to read more of the author’s content and to see where the characters are headed!!!

For me to reblog in the future with more. Notes: I did not include most of the cigarettes, guns and alcohol. These are mostly American brands or international brands in the U.S at the time. Lots of wars, psychological studies, economic recessions, inventions, and media published in this time. This is obviously not an exhaustive list. @id-f86 Here's the demon-summoning cat for thee
Master, I'm detecting a strong entity ahead. Do you want to go on?
A strong... entity? Not a demon or a human? Humans say curiosity kills cats like him, but he's got a responsibility as Tokyo's Saviurr! Checking out possible problems is part of his duties!... and also he is curious. Worming his way through the door to the Expanse, indeed there was a big... demon-like thing in front of him.
Scan Complete. The being before you is called Fecto Elfilis. He comes from a separate dimension. Intentions unknown. Demon Summoning App will be set to Automatic just in case.
Tumblr media
That name meant absolutely nothing to this semi-ordinary house cat. Still, if Burroughs was worried, he'd be a good kitty and keep a watchful eye. "Exploring other worlds?" Lulu'd give the thing a, 'Do you understand meows?' test. If failed, he'd have Burroughs translate to his language after. "Might not like it here. Can't go 5 paws without demon chasing you. Fish at lake really tasty, though."

How about Powerless for the sitcom thing?
Aw, I don’t think about this show often enough!
Anyway, I think a LOT of outsider/minor character POV fics can get the Powerless vibe of focusing in on the people who are in the background of the main things that are happening in a universe. I’m fond of these fics but don’t see near enough of them (other than the Darcy Lewis corner of MCU fandom, which is why I like that corner of MCU fandom best). However, I am going to rec my second gyzym fic of the day and say you should have a look at An Avalanche of Detour Signs, the best Sherlock fic, which is about Molly Hooper (and also Lestrade, but mostly Molly Hooper).
Or for a really deep cut superhero story that does some thinking about how superpowers impact society (there’s a superhero fashion designer!), have a look out for The Posterchildren by Kitty Burroughs.
Wench by Maxine Kaplan is somewhere on my very long TBR list because it’s basically about a girl who works at a Fantasy Tavern, and her struggles trying to keep that tavern! She ends up going on adventures, but the fact that the heroine is someone who is an ignored background character in a lot of traditional fantasy makes this a good Powerless comparison.

The Whole Marvelous Super Ultra Cosmic Magical Comic Book Universe
The produce of imagination and business that was Marvel Comics was a synchronic harmony sounded by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko and every one of the creators and craftsmen and inkers and colorists who worked there. Everything began during the mid 1960's the point at which the Fantastic Four and Spider-man and the X-men (The Uncanny X-Men) were framed from the creative mind of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.
X-men was a film industry crush the previous summer. I'm certain you additionally recall the profoundly effective Hulk TV show.
The most punctual X-men comprised of Jean (Marvel Girl) Gray (who later turned into the amazingly well known Phoenix), Professor X (Xavier), Cyclops (Scott Summers), the insightful Beast (Hank McCoy), and Iceman (Bobbie). Freaks brought into the world with exceptional "super-freak" capacities.
Later came the New Mutants with more youthful characters having freak controls that occasionally appeared to have them (the main sort of comic book story I don't care for).
These characters from X-men including (Nightcrawler, Wolverine, Storm, Banshee, Kitty) advanced with the appearance of the imagination of John Byrne (beginning in issue #108 of X-men) and Chris Claremont (Giant Sized X-men #1 and Uncanny X-men #94 now esteemed at $500. up in "mint" condition. The most famous person was the principle star in the X-men film- - Wolverine. There makes certain to be a continuation for this film industry crush.
X-men Comics instructed kids that bias is shrewd. Individuals who live in dread and in this way eagerness attempt to annihilate what they don't comprehend.
Fascinating that both the latest Star Wars film and X-men film truly investigated lawmakers (Congress). In the event that force undermines totally is it conceivable our framework is totally bad? The Senator in the X-men film took in his example somewhat late.
Insect man- - the new Marvel film in progress - is about a typical young child anxiety (menaces thumping him, not getting any darlings, skin break out, etc is gentle stuff contrasted with the present school encounters -, for example, not having chance and killed while going to or going to the everyday schedule lured by a destructive medication or tainted by a stellar infection) is only nibbled by a radioactive bug (revolutionary stuff for the mid 1960's).
This gives Peter Parker super powers- - creepy crawly controls - whenever intensified a man could lift a truck and convey it 20 miles as insects do. (Try not to get me going discussing Henry Pym the Antman who became Giant Man in the Marvel's Avengers ((Capt. America, Thor the Thunder God etc.))). Add to that Peter Parker was likewise a splendid understudy who had the option to concoct a web shooter and other extraordinary innovations. What's more, Spider-man was brought into the world as a bi-result of the bi-item known as radioactive material (which Science actually doesn't have the foggiest idea how to dispose of). (Take a stab at telling that to the Bush organization). Everything is energy! Recall Tesla curls.
However, Marvel was not by any means the only spot strutting superpowered characters.
D.C. Funnies (Time Warner), as well, used folklore and accounts of Biblical extents to entrain, invigorate and energize ages of youngsters, children and grown-ups from the 1940's to introduce.
A few characters like Superman, Atom, Flash, Batman, Green Lantern, JLA and others and even D.C's. adaptation of Capt. Wonder might have been propelled by profound writing which recounted Hindu Gods and Goddesses and surprisingly Biblical personages who could remain in fire and so forth

However most likely comic makers just made up their wondrous stories.
When I talked with Gerry Conway for the Comics Journal he conceded to me that he had investigated a portion of the funnies he composed. Conway's companion accomplice Roy Thomas no question investigated Conan and Thor and other material while author and supervisor at Marvel. They cooperated on the incredible enlivened Fire and Ice film. (Ralph Bakshi/Frank Frazetta).
Also, at first Thomas got the Conan property over to Marvel from Edgar Rice Burroughs in Tarzana, CA. (Tarzana- - Tarzan...get it? That's right, it also is a comic.)
More seasoned society know and love the endless Films and TV shows and serials highlighting these and other most loved brilliant characters: Buck Rogers, Flash Gordon, Commander Cody (which might have enlivened the Rocketeer comic and film).
COMIC BOOKS - Born by the sheer exhurberance of the actual Universe through the vehicle of the Human Being!
The Comic Industry is an analogy forever. An inestimable dramatization unfurling. In any case, not to place old wine into new containers: Many occasions in the past Marvel and D.C. have joined to do specials that helps the play of imagination. I initially met Stan Lee while I was the administrator of a Comic Book Store in Studio City, California in the 1970's.
Or then again, more precisely, I met him through his works at Marvel Comics - his exceptional contents and mind in 1961.
Exceptionally astute association with the fans through clubs and letter sections in bygone times caused one to feel like one was a piece of something. With Merry Marvel "we had a place."
Stan Lee's accounts contained genuine person's, finished with issues and the start of incredible groundbreaking thoughts and standards for carrying on with a decent life.
As when Spider-man didn't stop a Burglar - a similar Burglar who later killed his caring Uncle- - Peter Parker (Spider-man) got the message - serve humankind. With extraordinary force comes liability.
Furthermore, obligation is the capacity to react.
Energizing anecdotal stories loaded with experience and energy with ethics. Outlined lavishly.
Wonder Super characters were at first looked on by society as trouble makers. Even subsequent to saving human butt large number of times.
J. Jonah Jameson (modest Editor of the Daily Bugle paper) has abhorred Spider-person for more than 30 years. Jameson really attempted to annihilate Spider-man by turning into a super reprobate.
Adrenaline junkie (blind Attorney yet Batman-esque in capacities and actual strength and spryness - however with uplifted faculties) the Man unafraid was regularly marked a scalawag too from the start.
Similar to the always well known Incredible Hulk - first deified as a comic book during the 1960's. Who went from dull and idiotic to approach virtuoso relying upon the decade where this suffering person is perused.
What we dread we regularly view as shrewd.
Funnies have attempted to instruct us that the means are pretty much as significant as the finishes they produce.
What we do en route decides the outcome we will get. Funnies are distributed in light of the fact that a word sounds great to the distributer. However, a portion of these new youthful free distributers need to find out about the significance inside these words (thus do their clients). However, more capacity to these ambitious youths.
What is Yoga, Meditation, Tai Chi, Mantra? What is Zen? (One youthful upstart distributer of "Harmony - intergalactic Ninja" had never known about Alan Watts - incredible advertiser of Zen until I let him know Alan Watts was a renowned and famous scholar turned maverick Philosopher and Author (one of many) liable for acquainting Eastern Religions with the profoundly starved West- - frequently heard on KPFK radio. Alan Watts is potentially the chief advertiser of Zen. Watts' book " The Wisdom of Insecurity," specifies, for goodness' sake, Comic Books. What are Chakras? The Tao implies what? When children grow up and find out with regards to Meditation will they be spoiled by our ineptitude and insatiability?
Trendy expressions ordinarily lower cognizance and create turmoil. Obviously when I use to distribute stuff as a young person I made up names that sounded great however had almost no significance, for example, Beyond Infinity, مانجا لاند, Eon the Magazine of Graphic Illusions. I know less now than I did then, at that point. What is make, craftsmanship, Love, Truth?
I held a few signature parties with Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in the 1970's and 1980's. I tossed more than 50 effective signature parties with numerous awesome comic book specialists and authors. I'd have the occasion, give rewards, do all the publicizing, realistic workmanship, official statements, and so forth It was an invigorating encounter. It was enjoyable to cooperate with professionals and fans. I parted with a ton of free promotion stuff.
10th Nebula's first signature party was held with Stan Lee, distributer of Marvel Comics. For a considerable length of time my shop suffered in North Hollywood, CA nearby to the world's most seasoned Science Fiction Club (an inherent crowd of companions and fans and PC monsters).
The Stan Lee occasion evoked long queues of Comic Book devotees of any age slobbering for Stan's mark on the sprinkle page of their old and new funnies. These days experts sign funnies on the front of their title en mass which I don't support. (Yet, who pays attention to me).
Funnies structures are frequently manhandled by hopeful youthful distributers who utilize a few pointless full page sprinkles when the impact could be accomplished in a minuscule board - misuse of cash, ink and paper if you were to ask me. Not at all like bygone times when Steve Ditko gave us our best possible value as around 6 boards for each page - he in his manner resembled a Zen Master - the accuracy of his work matched the craft of Chinese Calligraphy (see his one of a kind style in old Atlas Comics from the 1950's). A portion of the new experimentation's by Frank Miller and different gifts have all accomplished outstandingly imaginative work as well.
