So I purposely avoided reading/watching any spoilers about the Ghost in the Shell live-action adaptation because when it came out in theaters, we were out in California so I didn't get a chance to watch it until last night after we rewatched the original. I'm glad I held off on reading any reviews on it because I actually really really enjoyed it. The story was a bit watered down compared to the source material, but I was anticipating wayyyy worse just because I don't think I've seen a live-action adaptation that I personally liked *cough*Attack on Titan *cough* I'm aware of the controversy surrounding casting Scar-Jo as Major, which I really just rolled my eyes at all the people blowing it way out of proportion. The setting, score, acting was all 👍🏻 in my opinion, so much that I'm probably going to invest in buying the art book. I'm probably 1 out a billion people that likes it and would give it a decent rating, but I'm also one of the few that was content with Alien: Covenant as well. It just bugs me that people can't appreciate the fact that we got a big budget anime adaptation from Hollywood and they'll always find things to nitpick at. Was it better than the original...probably not, but that's because it's animated, and animation leaves a lot more up to the imagination. I still highly recommend it, and will probably buy the Blu-Ray as well.
