Disguises...

When they first appeared to you as a sobbing child looking for their home, you were quick to help them find a way back. But when you came to the treeline, they vanished in a puff of smoke, leaving you with a warm meal on a night you were famished.

Then they appeared as an old crone who needed help carrying their belongings. Of course you helped them, too. But then the elder and their load vanished, leaving you with a small collection of gold right when you needed to pay off your debtors.

A haughty noble, a begging peasant, a worried parent. All in need of your assistance, only to vanish with a reward.

Dutifully, you went to a shrine of your local fox deity, offering half the meal, a small bit of the gold, the more lavish of the gifts. You clapped and rang the bells.

Before you left, the signature smoke filled the room in a gray haze. Floorboards creaked as shadows shifted across the wall, revealing the silhouette of a fox with nine tails, standing on two legs.

You whirled around to see the creature, wearing the clothes you had left behind, munching on its half of the meal. Once the food was gone, a long tongue went across tapered fangs.

It closed the distance between you, drumming elongated nails across your arm and shoulder.

"You have earned a favor." Their voice was barely above a whisper. "And I do not like having debts..."

If it wasn't obvious beforehand, I am a massive fan of Crepuscular Shroud and started engaging in the fandom shortly after Vivienne joined the campaign, and I've been here ever since.

Vivienne Chrysan is my absolute favourite character like EVER!!!

Disguises: Part Two

This is part two of an ongoing series. Read part one here!

“D-debt?” You managed to stutter out. “I don’t want to give you debt. My God.”

Dropping to the ground, you pressed your brow to the cold shrine floor. Years of neglect had covered it with dust and dirt. The musty and sour odor that moved through the air made you almost retch. How had it gotten this bad?

“Indeed, Dear Follower.” The kitsune gave a short bow. Small orbs of light floated around the creature, displaying images of you, but the perspective slightly shifted to show the perspective the Old God had taken. 

“You were so selfless in your actions.” They pointed upward, tails thrashing.  “However, giving me back my gifts could be considered rude.” They licked some rice residue off their hand, fangs grazing the inside of their wrist.

Then, they casually waved a hand as if they were shooing away an annoying insect, their nose turned up as if they could smell the rot of the shrine. Maybe they could, with their vulpine nose, but you didn’t dare point it out.

“But I am an Old Being and you have provided me with a valuable thing.” They walked restlessly in a circle around you, tails thrashing and hips swaying in an odd gait. Bare feet and toes spread out across the floors, as if not having felt them in years.

“So, let me show you what happens to those who give a god a bit of pleasure.”

All at once, jewelry found itself on your neck and wrists. Layers of clothes wrapped around you until you could barely move your arms. Lavish and indulgent food dropped from the ceiling on silver and gold plates, spilling onto the floor in an unappealing mush.

“w-wait!” You cried out. “There’s no need for all of this!”

Then, you fell to the floor, and realized that you were still wearing the humble robe and slippers you’d come in with. 

“Are you rejecting my gifts once more, Dear Follower?” They pulled out a flamboyant fan and waved it toward their face.

“N-no, I’m just saying they aren’t needed for me.” You kneeled in front of the being, head bowed. “Surely there Is a more… Practical way?”

The fan snapped closed.

“You are a tricky one to puzzle out.” The kitsune confessed, hands on their knees as they looked down at you, brows raised. “A humble life is fine, but surely you’d like… something to show your status?”

“My what?”

“Oh, the first follower of the Old Gods would become their bride!” They waved the fan dismissively. "Title. Not tied to any specific gender. Old politics."

"But first! We need followers!"

"Wait!" You managed to shout.

“So what’s with the fox? Didn’t take smiles to be much of a dog person” Angel said to Husker as the black fox trotted past him, walking towards said demon sitting on the sofa, rubbing against his legs before jumping up and curling up in his lap.

Husker shook his head, grumbling “Listen, that’s one thing you don’t want to know about. Trust me” he chugged at his bourbon.

Angel rolled his eyes at the cat demon, “Oh c’mon! Tell me! What do Mr. Fancytalk need with a pet? ” He whined. Husker ignored him, thinking sooner or later the spider will figure it out.

Charlie and Vaggie entered the lobby, overhearing the conversation. Angel turned his sight to Vaggie “Hey Vagina do you know the deal with the strawberry pimp’s pet?”

Vaggie sighed ”When Alastor manifested in this realm it was absolute chaos! some have speculated what unimaginable forces enabled him to rival our worlds most ancient and destructive evils. But one thing for sure, he holds an unpredictable source of danger, the kind we shouldn’t risk getting involved with unless we want to end up erased!” Angel deadpanned “that’s doesn’t really answer my questions toots”

Vaggie pointed towards the red demon, at the black fox “rumor has it the fox is the reason he’s so powerful”

A loud BANG! Was heard and suddenly there was a massive hole knocked into the hotel.

A giant blimp was outside the hotel and a snake demon was declaring a fight against Alastor.

Alastor joined Charlie and the others at the entrance of the hotel, very much amused at the pathetic display.

”Who are you?” He asked

”I am the great Sir Pentigous! Your fiercest enemy!…We literally battled last week”

Alastor tilted his head, leaning on his cane “Well you would think I remembered you”

The snake demon hissed and went to charge up his weapons.

”Uuugghh Alastor? Aren’t you gonna do something about him? Aren’t you suppose to protect the hotel or something?” angel asked, hands on his hips. Alastor grinned ”Aah yes” he snapped his fingers.

Thick, inky black smoke billowed from the ground as a thunderous growl was heard.

”Holy fucking hell!”

A Giant beast emerged from the ground and immediately took the bump into its mouth and shook like a dog would a toy.

Several appendages swirled as the beast tore into the machine like it was paper.

The snake demon fell to the ground, trying to back away as the massive black beast snapped its sharp teeth at him,  making him cower.

”now now my dear you’ve done enough” Alastor said, causing everyone to look at him confused?

The black beast huffed before black smoke surrounded it.

Walking out of the smoke, holding the snake demon was a…

”THE FOX???!!” Angel exclaimed

You dragged the demon by his hood, baring your sharp teeth at him as he cowered behind Charlie.

You frowned at Alasto as you turned to him, ears flattening
