Has Jiraiya ever been in love? Like real love, not just super attracted to someone? What happened why didn't it work out?

I personally think jiraiya fell in love with both his teammates. He figured they’d be together forever. Happy in a throuple situation. When tsunade got married he moved on to at least hoping oro would stay and love him. You can imagine his heartbreak when he failed to bring home the man he loved followed by the woman he loved leaving him after her husband died.

I think he grew a bit bitter and closed off, whether he realizes it or not. How can he not believe he wasn’t good enough for them? He shoots most of his relationships in the foot after that, believing he can’t be happy without his teammates. Honestly he should just go crazy. Go on a bender and go wild to let all that pent up resentment out. Smash up an abandoned building and get in a reckless fight type of unhinged behaviour. He does want to hurt sometimes. But he just doesn’t know how to cope.

Random character development question- can you talk about how Juraiya learned he was Bi? Did he struggle with it at all? Does he have a preference? Does his bi sexuality get represented in his books too?

I call jiraiya bi but he is more pansexual. Mostly because 95% of the muses he speaks to do adhere to their born binary or have preferred gendered pronouns. Truthfully he isn’t too picky about how his partner identifies. But in reality he probably is unaware what pansexuality is and just slaps himself with the bi label since that makes the most sense to him. He’s old school he doesn’t really keep up with the updated sexuality spectrum. But with that aside I’ll actually answer ur questions.

He learned young, growing an attraction to both his teammates. First it was Tsunade. Then he became increasingly interested in Orochimaru as well. That made him wonder if that was… ok? He didn’t really question it too much, just stayed quiet.

I also headcanon nart Society also sorta mirrored irl society. So he grew up when the gay was worthy of being outlawed, lectured or shamed(and a father that didnt want no queers in his house). So he has some complexes about showing his interest in men(or masculine figures) as opposed to feminine. Usually he’s far more subtle and needs a strong connection before taking the chance. (Made a joke once that he’s demi for the boys and wild with the girls. Still true imo) Even in the canon times he still meets the occasional person who is disgusted by his preferences. But at his age he don’t give as much of a fuck what others think of who he sticks it in. He still does have one nights with mascs but is less likely to brag about those conquests like he does with the girlies unless he is more or less out to the person hes talking to. Aka he trusts they don’t care as much as he does about who he boinks.

He ain’t too picky. So long as they’re of age and generally a more calm person than he is then thats all he needs. However with his books he keeps it straight. He knows sex sells to the greatest most popular audience and to make profits, so trad romance it is. So is it a surprise that everyone who doesn’t know him very well assumes he is as well?
