— —
After successfully rescuing your cook from Big Mom’s clutches, there was something off about him. Sanji wasn’t the same flirty, playful man that had left you at Dressrosa. He seemed distracted all of the time, like he was lost inside of his own head as he absentmindedly stirred pots and pans on the stove. His constant fawning over you, Nami, and Robin had slowed dramatically and hell, he barely even argued with Zoro anymore… that was the biggest red flag.  You cared for your crew mate and friend deeply, so you were determined to help him out of this slump.
Your attempts at getting him to open up to you had repeatedly failed. Each time you asked him if something was bothering him or even just asking how he was doing, he would fake a smile and tell you not to worry about him. You couldn’t give up, you had to try harder.
One afternoon, you catch Sanji in the kitchen preparing for dinner.
“Smells good in here!” You say in a sing song voice you enter the galley and see your favorite cook at the counter chopping carrots.
“Y/n, darling, thank you. Anything you need?” Sanji briefly looks up at you to flash you a tired smile.
“Hmmm maybe…” You stroll into the large pantry and root around.
“Y/n if there’s something you desire, I’d be happy to fetch it for you, no need to dig around in there…” Sanji puts his knife down on the cutting board with a huff.
Before Sanji could step towards the pantry, you emerge with two wine glasses and a bottle of white wine in your hands.
“What do you say you shuck a couple of those oysters in the ice box and we can enjoy them with this,” You wiggle the wine bottle in Sanji’s direction. “Like we used to back the day? I know they’re your favorite. Remember when we’d have to put a chair under the door handle so Luffy wouldn’t come in and slurp them all down?”
Sanji chuckles lowly and shakes his head.
“Yes how could I forget? We would get so drunk, too…” He cracks a genuine smily briefly before it fades from his lips. “I’m not hungry. But if you’d like some, I can prepare some for you.”
You sigh.
“I don’t want them by myself. Will you at least have a glass of wine with me?” You smile and step closer to him.
“I can do that.” Sanji reaches into his pocket and retrieved his wine key. He takes the bottle and glasses from you. He opens the bottle and pours two large glasses full.
“Ice in yours?” Sanji asks.
“You always remember how I like things.” You nod and smile.
Sanji plops a few ice cubes into your glass. You raise yours.
“Cheers to having you back.” You say as you tip your glass in his direction.
Sanji hesitates, but eventually grabs his glass and clinked it with yours wordlessly. You both sip your drinks.
“If you don’t mind, darling, I have to finish preparing for dinner. You can stay if you’d like, but I can’t say I’m much of a conversationalist as of late…” Sanji throws a dish towel over his shoulder and continues his work on the vegetables.
“It’s fine. You don’t have to talk. I just like being around you.”
Sanji nods and you watch him cook in silence for the next hour. As you observed him, you notice the heavy grey bags under his eyes, it was now clear that he wasn’t sleeping. Every now and then he would reach up and rub at his neck, obviously sore and aching. You hated seeing him in such a state, but he made it clear he wasn’t ready to talk and you weren’t going to force it.
Once Sanji finishes the meal, you head out and gather the rest of the crew for dinner.
The meal was wonderful as always and your rowdy crew filled the room with raucous laughter and conversation. Once everyone had their fill of food and drink, they thanked Sanji and filed out of the dining room to entertain their own evening activities. Most of your crew mates had gone to bed, but since the night was clear and warm you decided to lay out on the deck and look for shooting stars with Chopper.
“You see those 5 big stars over there?” You say as you point into the distance.
“Yeah, I think so!” Chopper wiggles his ears.
“That constellation is called Pablo the Reindeer Warrior! He was a famous big strong reindeer who saved a city from destruction and became a hero!”
“Wow! Really?!” Chopper looks over at you.
“No, haha. I had you there!” You throw your head back and laugh.
“Aww, y/n no fair.” The little reindeer pouts.
“Sorry little buddy, it was too easy.”
After a few minutes go by you see a shooting star.
“Chopper did you see that!?” You turn to the side and see the tiny doctor fast asleep beside you. You smile and scoop him up in your arms and rise to your feet. You carry Chopper to his bed in the medical bay and tuck him in tightly. You yawn. It was late, but you wanted to see if Sanji was still doing dishes before you headed off to sleep.
Sure enough, as you enter the galley, Sanji’s slender figure was slumped over the sink finishing up the dishes.
“Hey San-“ You stop once you hear a sniffle.
You go silent and don’t move any further. Was he… crying?
“*sniff* y/n, it’s late.” Sanji chokes back something like a wet sob. “You should head to bed. *sniff*” Sanji says without turning around, right hand covering his face over the sink.
“Sanji… you’re… not okay…” You say softly as you approach him slowly. “And that’s okay… you just have to let someone help you… we’re a family and you don’t have to do anything alone…” You reach his trembling form and reach up to gingerly touch his shoulder.
Sanji jerks against your touch. You recoil your hand.
“No! Don’t you get it! I fucked up! I am fucked up!” Sanji removes his hand from his face, revealing red, wet eyes. “I put everyone in danger and it was all my fault…” Heavy tears spill over and cascade down his porcelain cheeks.
You immediately pull him into you and put your hand on the back of his head to push him into the crook of your neck. You wrap your other around around his shoulder to keep him close to your body. He cries harder.
“I can’t sleep, y/n… I keep having nightmares… It’s just too much…” Sanji breathes out into your skin, now wet from his tears. You stroke his hair.
“Sanji I understand why you might feel like that, but I promise you no one resents you for anything. You were doing what you thought would save us. We’re all just so happy to have you back.” You coo soothingly into his ear.
“You shouldn’t have come for me, I’m not worth it. I’m a disgusting monster…” Sanji sobs
You rub circles into his back.
“Hey, out of all the disgusting monsters we’ve fought over these years, I’m pretty sure you’re very low on the list.” You joke.
Sanji cries harder.
“Oh come on, you know I’m kidding. You’re not disgusting and you’re not a monster. Imagine Luffy hearing you say this? You know he wouldn’t stand for it.” You state firmly.
Sanji’s sobbing slows.
“Hey… why don’t you stay with me tonight?” You ask.
Sanji pulls back and looks in your eyes.
“What?” He questions.
“If you stay with me, you won’t be alone if you have a nightmare. You’ll feel better if you get a decent night’s sleep.” You wipe tears and snot from his princely face. “Please?” You persist.
“I… Ok…” Sanji resigns.
“Good, when you finish cleaning up, come to my room.” You push his hair back and retreat to your bedroom deep inside the ship.
You wash up and slip on a large clean shirt and boy short panties before you slide into bed. You sigh and stretch against your comfortable sheets.
*knock knock*
“Come in!” You holler from your bed. Sanji meekly peeks his head into your room and you smile and wave him in. He had cleaned up his face and combed his hair, his normal three piece suit swapped for grey sweats and a white tee.
“Hi!” You sit up in bed and pat the spot next to you in bed.
“A-are you sure you don’t want me to sleep on the loveseat?” Sanji asked as he pointed at the couch in the corner of your bedroom.
“Sleeping on a sofa isn’t going to make your quality of sleep any better. Shut up and get in here, cook.” You roll your eyes. Sanji delicately slides underneath your fluffy purple comforter and takes his place beside you.
“Good. Now get some sleep.” You reach up and turn out your bedside lamp. You settle yourself in, facing inwards curled on your side, how you always slept. You listen to Sanji’s nervous, heavy breathing for a few moments before he spoke.
“Y/n?”
“Yes?” You open your eyes and look up at him.
“Could I… hold you?” He asks with a shaky breath.
“Of course. Come here.” You pull Sanji’s head down to lay between your breasts and he wraps him arm around your waist. You throw your leg over his hip and begin stroking his hair. Sanji couldn’t help but nuzzle his nose deeper into the crease of your breasts through your shirt. You smirk. After a few minutes of innocent cuddling, you feel Sanji’s hand on your side slip up your shirt and caress your naked back. The next thing you notice is the very slight grinding up his hips up into you. He was so cute like this, you couldn’t help but want to let him play… Maybe this is what he needed?
“Here baby…” you quickly pull back and remove your shirt, breasts falling into Sanji’s face in the process. You lay back down and pull his head back to your tits. “Go ahead and suck, sweetheart…” You guide his lips to your erect nipple.
“Y/n yes…mmmpphh…” Sanji moans around your pert bud, continued to rut his hips into you. You arch your back and sigh at the sensation of his plush lips on your breast.
Sanji sucks hungrily at your tit as he brings his hand to knead and squeeze at your other one.
“Mmmmph.. thank you.. so perfect…” Sanji mutters as he pulls off your breast to give the other one the same attention, a sloppy string of saliva now connecting them. Minutes went by with Sanji just desperately suckling your chest, little whimpers leaving his lips every now and then…
“Feels so good, sweet boy, so good for me…” You coo as you tug at his hair.
“Hmmppph… fuck… thank you mommy….” Sanji groans into your chest.
You eyes snap open.
*Oooooh, so that’s what he’s into… you know what? That makes sense…”
It might not be something you were used to, but you were happy with providing Sanji with whatever he needed in this very moment. You pull him gently by his hair out of your breasts and look into his glassy eyes.
“Wanna be a good boy and fuck me, Sanji?”
“Gods, more than anything.” Sanji bolts upright and sheds himself of his shirt and sweats, long cock standing at attention. You snap out of your daze staring at Sanji’s large member and shimmy off your panties. You spread your legs wide to entice him to enter you already. Sanji hovers over you.
“Fuck me, Sanji.” You buck your hips up at him.
“I can’t… not yet…”
“What?” You sit up on your elbows.
“Gotta taste you first… smells so nice…” Sanji drops to his stomach between your legs and spreads your glistening lips with his fingers. “Fucking pretty…” Sanji sighs before diving into your cunt and attaching his lips to your clit. You yelp out in surprise and pleasure. Sanji makes out with your clit as his saliva and your slick dris down the rest of your sex, soaking your skin and the bed under you. You writhe and moan under his tongue as your feel him start to play with both of your holes with his wet thumb and forefinger. His finger teases your soaked pussy as his thumb applied pressure in circles around your tight ass, all as he slurped on your clit. You found yourself hurtling towards an explosive ending very quickly.
“Shit, Sanji!” You cry out and grip his hair as you cum violently all over Sanji’s face. The moan he let out as you released on him might have been as loud as your own, it was filthy and pornographic.
Sanji takes one last lick of your sex before coming back up to hover over you.
“You’re really fucking good at that.” You laugh and wrap your arms around his neck.
Sanji chuckles and leans down to give you a passionate kiss. The flavor of your orgasm on his lips was making your head spin.
“Wanna fuck you now…” Sanji whispers as he pulls back from you.
“You can fuck me baby, I wanna feel you…”
Sanji straddles one of your legs and pulls the other to wrap around his hip, turning you slightly on your side. He wastes no time in pushing his swollen cock into your seeping hole. Sanji stutters and gasps as he bottoms out inside of you, overwhelmed at the feeling of your warm walls sucking him in so tightly.
“Y/n… fuck…” Sanji pants and pulls out of you just slightly, admiring your slick coating his shaft already.
“So good baby, you stretch me out so good…” You purr as you run your hand up and down his chest.
“Shit…” Sanji pushes back in, all the way to his pelvis and grinds into you, making sure to press into your clit. He continues grinding his hips in circles against yours.
“Yes! Just like that, so fucking good baby!” You cry out and throw your head back, this particular position had Sanji able to stimulate all of your senses.
“A-ah- Fuck! You’re squeezing me so tight! A-are you gonna cum?” Sanji stutters as he tries to keep his pace while fucking into you.
“Yes honey, I’m gonna cum. Keep going, make mommy cum, baby- Ah!” You cry out and your dam bursts all over Sanji’s legs and pelvis.
“Mommy! Fuck, ah! Can’t hold it, gotta.. gotta fill you! Please!” Sanji shouts as his hips move more erratically.
In your post orgasm daze you whisper out a short “cum in me, please” and Sanji does just so with a loud groan, surely heard by everyone on the ship. You whimper as you feel him shooting rope after rope of thick white into your womb. Once his body stopped shaking on top of you, Sanji pushed himself off and flopped down next to you in bed.
“Y/n…” Sanji turns to you and grabs your cheek. “Thank you…”
You shake your head.
“Don’t thank me. I’d be doing this with your no matter what had happened. You mean so much to me…” You look up into Sanji’s blue eyes.
“I… I don’t deserve you…” Sanji looks away.
“Hey.” You tilt his chin up to you. “No more of that. I thought I made that very clear.” You giggle and place a quick kiss on his lips. Sanji smiles.
“I’ll never leave you again. I promise.”

Them Bones
Pairing: Leopika
(6/7)
6. The husband, a dance
This chapter contains a little bit of inappropriate language, but it's not smut, it's just Pairo being mean (in the best of ways)
They were the last to marry. Normally those who joined in the rite were married within the first three months or barely a week later, as Pairo had done with his husband Oruki. However, Leorio and Kurapika waited an entire year to get married.
They both wanted to get to know each other well, to know if they were one hundred percent on board with the idea of being together for the rest of their lives. And although the answer to that mystery had come early in their relationship, they put the moment off a little longer so they could feel like the children they were when they met for as long as they could.
But now Kurapika was there, dressed in the same white robe with precious flower embroidery that his future husband also wore, with the veils that fell on their heads like silky hair and framed the happiness on their faces. The happiness they felt did not fit in their chests and they let each other understand it with gestures of surprise, handshakes and complicit glances. As if all that was just a little prank.
They were both kneeling in front of the white cherry tree, holding hands, waiting for the waning quarter moon to pass over the tree and make their marriage official. Around them there were not many guests; Kurapika's family, Pairo's and some friends from his generation. There were also a couple of old people who were Leorio's patients and who had grown to love him, almost as much as Kurapika loved him. Almost.
When the moon finally settled over their heads and bathed them in matchless silver light, they both slipped on their ruby wedding earrings and kissed sweetly, pressing each other's cheeks to kiss a silly grin on each other's faces.
"I'm yours forever," Leorio whispered, resting his forehead on Kurapika's. "Until death do us part."
"I am yours," Kurapika repeated. "Until the next life finds us again."
******
"So the big night came, huh?" Kurapika looked suspiciously at Pairo, slowing down in the small congregation of friends and family who were accompanying them halfway to their house. Kurapika's new house. "Get ready because it will hurt. No matter how much you've put your finger on your you-know-where, it doesn't compare."
"Do we have to be talking about this?" Kurapika questioned between whispers, feeling absolutely uncomfortable. Leorio was a little further away, helping an old lady who had insisted that she wanted to be part of the procession no matter how steep the route was.
Pairo took advantage of that to grab Kurapika's arm and be absolutely annoying one last time;
"Ugh, Oruki once caught Leorio in the river, he said he was 'as God brought him into the world'" added the guy without taking the note to his best friend's blushing face. "He sends you his deepest condolences."
Kurapika had never seen Leorio naked, and Leorio had never seen him in the same condition, so he couldn't tell if what Pairo said was true or a lie.
"How did you go from being such a sweet and innocent child to this?" he complained while his best friend hugged him tightly to be at ear level and whisper;
"You'll find out tonight."
"You...! Go away!" he exclaimed, pushing him when the procession had stopped. "And tell your husband to stop looking at mine when he goes to the river."
"I promise nothing," Pairo laughed, earning a tug of hair.
The newlyweds said goodbye to the people and went on their way hand in hand. The noises of civilization died away behind them and the sound of cicadas and nature were their only company until they reached the house.
His house. Their house.
In the afternoon, while the two were preparing in the tent that had been set up for the wedding, Kurapika's family had moved their things to Leorio's house. There were already signs of his own person in that rectangle that joined the kitchen with the dining room and his bedroom, separated from the environment by heavy and ancient red curtains that were open at that moment. There were his utensils intermingled among Leorio's things; cups, plates, ornaments and the gifts they had received for their marriage.
His bed now rested next to Leorio's bed and his clothes were stored in the same closet. His hairbrush, toothbrush and towel had to be found in the bathroom that was located in the space next to where the dining room was. There was an extra room not counting the small medical room outside the house which had belonged to the apothecary's son and later to Leorio, that surely now also housed Kurapika's belongings.
"Separate beds?" interrupted Leorio, observing that with curiosity.
"They come together at night," he explained. "And in the morning you can separate them. It is something of a symbol of both individuality and unification."
"How?" the man asked curiously."By day I'm my own person, but at night..."Leorio smiled mischievously, clearly thinking about the sexual part of that sentence, and Kurapika nudged him playfully."I see," Leorio whispered, wrapping his arm around his shoulders.
Kurapika smiled at the sight of the two little beds in front of him;
"My parents never separate them," he confessed. His parents' beds were so close together that they had always shared a duvet. Kurapika had seen them argue, avoid each other, not speak to each other during the day. But they had never separated their beds; they slept together, embraced, and woke up loving each other a little more.
He wished the same would happen to him and Leorio; never separate and love each other more every day, if that was possible. Waking up next to him every day, murmuring sleepily how much he loved him and how much he would love him until they were both old men, when both are nothing more than bones.
"Do you want to dance with me?" Leorio questioned, snapping Kurapika out of his trance.
"Sure," he whispered, taking the hand that Leorio offered him."I'm so grateful that the apothecary brought you," he confessed out of the blue, thinking that none of this would be possible if that old man hadn't met him on one of his trips.
The man smiled, kissing his cheek with pure love, and Kurapika returned the gesture, placing his free hand on his waist and resting his head against Leorio's chest.
There was no music, but the rhythm of Leorio's heart set the pace that Kurapika led, too close together for the dance to resemble one and not just two people fused in an embrace that rotated on their own axis.
Although that didn't matter too much either, they were alone after all.
"I know it's going to sound crazy" Leorio whispered against his hair, "but I think he knew this was going to happen."
Kurapika was slow to connect his last sentence with Leorio's remark. It wasn't his fault, the man smelled so good it was distracting.
"Your crush on me was obvious..." he commented with a mocking touch. Leorio denied;
"Before you met me."
Kurapika raised his head to look at his husband's concentrated face.
"What?"
"He used to say that he brought me here because it would serve great purposes for the clan" Leorio explained, "but he didn't mean it hopefully or as an idea; He said it with the conviction of a person who knew what would happen, in the long run."
Kurapika blinked a few times, processing the information that had never been revealed to him before.
"You say he knew you would give Pairo the surgery and marry me?" He questioned full of curiosity.
"Yes, I know he already knew those things," he stated "I'm sorry, honey, let's not talk about that kind of thing on such a special night. I don't want to ruin everything with my silly superstitions."
"They are not silly," Kurapika assured him. "But you're right, this is our special night."
Leorio gave Kurapika a fleeting kiss, and tucking a lock behind his ear added: "The first of many."

Humble Beginnings
Chapter Eighteen: Malevolent
(Told from Alastor's POV. Title inspired by Bow Your Head by Austin Simmons and Rhyce Records.)
Once arriving at the hotel, I start to prepare my famous jambalaya, per Charlotte’s request, and the Queen walks in, a soft smile on her face.
“Your Majesty! How can I help you?”
“I wish to help you. Plus, I hear you cook well.”
“Why of course! Who am I to decline such a willing offer?”
“Thank you. What would you like me to do?”
“Chop these vegetables, please.” I hand her a knife and she begins to chop, and time flies as we joke, cook, and bicker. I notice Charlie peek in, smile, and exit without uttering a single word to us. A while later, a new voice echoes throughout the hotel, signaling the angel had arrived at the hotel, just as the food finishes.
“Hey there, sweet cheeks,” Angel greets, sultry tones in his voice.
“Um-Hello, sinner! Do you happen to know where the Princess might be?”
“She’s at the dinin’ table,” Husker exclaims, pushing Angel out of the way. “Over there.” He points to the dining table, where my beloved and her mother sit, talking and laughing.
“Thank you, little kitty.” Michael pats Husker’s head, causing the both of us to instantly be infuriated by the action. He makes eye contact with me, warning me of the disrespectful angel, before walking over himself with Angel. I bring out the food for them to enjoy, and make myself a bowl and head back to eat in the kitchen. Charlie noticed my behavior, and followed me into the kitchen.
“Ah, honey, what’s wrong?”
“Nothing, mon cher.”
“That’s a lie and you know it. Does Michael make you uncomfortable?”
“Uncomfortable? Charlotte, Angels can kill us. Kill you.”
“Michael isn’t going to attack us, Al.”
“You don’t know that, Charlotte.”
“Al I- are you scared he’ll hurt me?”
“Of course I am!” I shift into my more ‘eldritch’ form, frightening Charlotte, before fleeing to my quarters, panicking about if I had hurt her.
The pain of breathing became unbearable, short breaths being taken, each one excruciatingly painful, as my shadow appears, flickering in and out, feeling my pain and trying to calm me down. “Wh-what, ol-ld boy?”
He gestures to taking large breaths, and breathing becomes easier. I summon a letter, slowly writing an apology to Charlotte, and finish with a perfect copy of my signature, before standing up and returning to her side, handing the letter to her and preparing to give the Archangel a tour of the hotel. To my surprise, when I return, I hear my name being shouted throughout the entire hotel.
“Alastor, the Radio Demon! Face me!” Michael shouts, his booming voice echoing.
“Oh? And to what do I owe the pleasure of facing you for?”
“I challenge you, Alastor, to a duel. Will you or will you not accept?”
I ponder my options, the air thickening the longer silence prolongs. “I do.”
“Al, please don’t do this,” Charlotte begs, hoping he’ll reconsider.
“I have to, Charlie. Plus, who am I to turn down such a glorious fight?”
“Very well, sinner! Let this battle commence. Outside!” Everyone follows the angel outside and I begin to taunt him.
“Why would an angel choose to fight a sinner over the Princess or Queen? You just want to guarantee that you’ll win, correct?”
The angel was fuming at my question, and began to fire shots at me, holy light illuminating the area in front of the hotel. Each attack was dodged carefully with consideration, antagonizing the angel further.
“Such sloppy shots! Put some effort into it!”

--------------------------------------------------------------
August 25th 2017
[Blaire's P.O.V.]
I hummed to the beat of Hello by Adele, as I wiped down the crumb covered booth.
I quietly began singing the words, "So, hello from the other side. I must've called a thousand times, to tell you I'm sorry for breaking your heart, but it don't matter it clearly doesn't tear you apart." Suddenly I was cut off by the sound of the restaurant door swinging open, told me that I had a customer.
"Someone will be with you in a minute!" I called, quickening the speed I cleaned the booth. Once I finished wiping the booth I rushed into the back where the rest of the workers mingled. "Hey, can someone take orders for me? I've gotta' finish wiping the booths." I spoke, I got no response and heavily sighed, "Hey, can someone please go take orders!" I shouted making everyone fall silent.
"Yeh, sure, no problem." Deb said, briskly walking past me. Deb and I had a few things in common. First thing: We were both fed up with the working environment here. Second thing: We only stayed in this crappy environment so we could get some sort of income. Although my reasoning was deeper than hers. I needed an income so I could pay for my mother's cancer treatments. She had been diagnosed during my second year of college and I had to drop out, which ultimately led me to getting a job as a waitress here at Jonny's Inn.
I also had a side hustle which was a guitarist and back vocalist in a not so well known band. The band was made up of five people including me, my best friend Talia and her brother Dylan. Her and I had been friends since the first grade, she was basically my sister and a daughter to my mother.
"Blaire! We need you in the kitchen!" I heard someone yell. I mentally screamed, briskly walking over to the kitchen I saw what could be dubbed as 'organized chaos' unfolding right before me. Gill our newest worker struggled to get the oven turned on.
"It won't work." He informed me.
"I can see that." I spoke furrowing my brows. I walked closer to the oven and motioned for him to step aside. I pushed down on the knob and twisted it, but it wouldn't budge. I groaned out of frustration, "Gill, go and get me the olive oil?" He disappeared out of the corner of my eye and returned moments later with the olive oil. I took it from him and sprayed it onto the knob. I twisted the knob and just like that it moved. "Ta-da!" I say, he gave me a small smile.
"Th-thank you. I was scared you'd be upset since I know you're busy right now." He spoke, I gave him a warm smile.
"I try to be nice to the newcomers. This place can get kinda' hectic." I walked off to return to my boring job of wiping down the booths. Once in the dining area I began wiping down another table.
[Harry's P.O.V.]
I mindlessly sat in the booth waiting for Mitch and Sarah to show up. I sat back with my arms folded and watched a tall, stunning, beautiful blonde woman walk out of the kitchen. She held cleaning supplies in her hands, she began wiping down the booth in front of me. I was too entranced in watching her to realize Mitch and Sarah had taken a seat across from me.
"Harry, hey instead of staring why doncha' go talk to her?" Mitch spoke, I snapped back to reality and smiled at the two of them.
"How was the ride here?" I ask, my eyes flicking towards the woman once more before I forced myself to focus on the two people who sat in front of me.
"Good, although Sarah almost killed us on the way here." She elbowed his side and gave him a side eye. "See she even wants to kill me right now. Harry you gotta' save me." He joked.
"Do you wanna' end up on the couch tonight, Mitch?" Sarah questioned him. He gave her a small smile, followed by a kiss to the cheek.
My attention was brought to the warm voice of the same woman, "Hello, my name is Blaire and I'll be your waiter for tonight. So, what can I get you guys for drinks?" I was mesmerized by the way her lips moved around every word she spoke. The way her voice was sounded both warming and calming.
"Um, I'll get a water, please." I spoke, fidgeting with my rings under the table. After Mitch and Sarah ordered their drinks she walked away, I couldn't help but stare as her hips swayed side to side.
"Harry, Sarah was trying to tell you something." Mitch spoke, I nodded my head and hesitantly looked away from the woman and to Sarah. Her face held a knowing look.
"Give her your number, you never know what could happen." I pursed my lips in thought.
"I'll take you up on that one, Sarah." I smirked.
[Blaire's P.O.V.]
My shift was almost over, I had about ten minutes left. I made my way out into the dining area and over to the booth that I'd been catering to. The booth that a gorgeous looking British man sat at. I didn't think it was possible to catch feelings for someone so quickly but I guess I was wrong.
"Um, I'll get a water, please." I spoke, fidgeting with my rings under the table. After Mitch and Sarah ordered their drinks she walked away, I couldn't help but stare as her hips swayed side to side.
I stood by the booth and seen their plates were empty "Alright, are you guys all set for tonight?" The man with the British accent shook his head yes. I smiled, "Great, I'll be right back with your bill." I spoke walking off where I grabbed their bill I then walked back to the booth and handed the bill to the man. Just for a split second our fingers brushed against one another causing a certain static to course through me. I walked away and went back into the kitchen. I found Deb standing alone sipping her decaf coffee. She was well into her sixties which made me confused as to why she wasn't drinking caffeinated coffee. She smiled and made her way towards me.
"Psst, just figured I'd let you know that I seen that guy you were waiting give you the heart eyes all the way from over here." She whispered, before walking out into the dining area. I followed behind figuring by now the man and his friends would have paid. Sure enough I found the crisp paper bills inside of the billfold along with a folded up napkin. I furrowed my brows together and unraveled the napkin, much to my surprise there was a number written on it along with sloppy cursive scribbled below it: 'This is my number, text me when you get the chance.'
I smiled even wider, "Deb!" I exclaimed. She hurriedly made her way over to me. Her hand flew up to her mouth as she read the note.
"You seriously should text that man, this is like something out of a romance movie." I knitted my brows together, "Ya' know like how the man falls for the waitress and he writes his number on the napkin and they just fall in love." I chuckled.
"Oh, yeah like that'll happen. Please, the only thing men want me for is my body." I stated, my hand on my hip.
"How will you know if you don't give 'em a shot?" I looked down at the note and back up to Deb. I took her words into consideration and thought and thought some more.
"Fuck it. I'm gonna' do it, I mean what's the worst that could happen? We hook up? I mean, that's nothing new." I chuckled, pulling my phone from my pocket. I typed the number into my contacts and then began typing a message.
To Unknown: Hey this is Blaire, the waitress from Jonny's Inn. Um, well as you can tell I got the note. And I'm doing what you asked so did you want something or what?
From Unknown: Hey, it's Harry but, I just- honestly I think you're very beautiful.
To Harry: Oh, wow thank you. So I take it you like to be straight forward and to the point?
From Harry: Eh, I try to be.
To Harry: Nice, but also what's your full name?
From Harry: Uh, Harry Styles.
To Harry: Okay well I need to let you go. My shift ends soon, thank you though.
From Harry: You're welcome, get home safe.
I shoved my phone into my pocket and saw Deb's face that now held a wide grin like mine was.
"So?" She nudged me in the side. I chuckled.
"He seems nice, that's all." I say, my smile diminished.
"Well, as long as he's nice. So, how's the band been doing? You have any gigs comin' up?"
"Eh, we've been doing the uche. We have a gig in like three days at the local bar so that's somethin'."
She nodded her head, "Alright well I won't hold you here any longer than you gotta' be. Have a nice night, Blaire."
"Thanks you too!" I exclaimed as I strolled towards the back where I kept all of my belongings. I grabbed my purse and unlocked my car. And with that my day at the restaurant had ended.
***
I walked into my apartment and saw my mother sitting at the dining table next to the window holding a freshly lit cigarette to her lips.
"Ma', I told you that smoking isn't good for you." I huffed, taking my jacket off. She waved me off as she blew out a puff of smoke.
"How was your shift?" She asks, I shrugged my shoulders.
"So, so. I made a bit in tips but it's no where near enough to pay for your treatments though."
"Well, get some better customers." She joked, I gave her a small smile.
"The band and I have a gig in a few days, so hopefully I get some money from that." She nodded her head slightly, before putting out the cigarette.
"Well, I'm gonna' get some shut eye. I'll see you in the morning."
"Alright, I love you, night." I say making my way into the kitchen to eat some of the leftover meatloaf my mom had made I'm assuming tonight.
August 27th 2017
[Blarie's P.O.V.]
I hadn't forgotten about Harry over the course of the two passing days. Which was odd enough considering we hadn't talked at all either. There was just something about him, like an air of mystery. But moving on, today was my bands gig, we were playing at the local bar and I couldn't wait. I loved nothing more than to be able to strum my heart out to the beat of the song while singing some backing vocals for Talia. We hadn't gone as far as writing our own songs though, we only do covers of songs. I'd been pushing for us to make our own but not all of us agreed on it. So, I eventually just stopped pushing for that idea.
"Blaire!" Dylan called, I turned around and saw him standing with his drum sticks in his hand.
"Yeah?"
"Have you seen Talia? I called her a bit ago but she didn't pick up." He spoke, pulling at his hair. It was something he'd always done when he was nervous. I shook my head no. I looked down at my watch and saw we still had a solid hour before we started.
"Dylan, chill out we've still got like an hour before we go on."
"I know but she's our lead singer, we kinda' need her."
"Dude, I'm sure she's on her way. Just chillax'."
"But what if she forgot?"
"I highly doubt that." He let out a sigh and plopped down on the couch.
"Hey, guys sorry I was running late, traffic was horrible." Talia's cheerful tone sounded as she made her way into the room.
"See, I told you." I say, looking at Dylan. He looked visibly relaxed at the sight of his sister.
"Oh, thank God you're here." He spoke, rising from the seat and wrapping his sister into a quick hug.
"Yep, I'm here," she spoke, "So, are we all gonna' warm up together or individually?" She asked, eyeing Dylan's guitar. I gave her a shrug, Dylan did the same.
"Okay, well let's go get Clara and Jake." She spoke, already halfway through the room by the time she'd said it. Dylan and I followed closely behind, chatting amongst ourselves as we did. We walked into another room and I immediately wanted to turn right back around the second I saw Clara and Jake making out on the couch.
Honestly, being in the band with two people who were a couple kinda' got in the way of our bond as a band. For one, there has been too many times to count that Clara and Jake have been way too flirty while performing. And it just makes us look less like a band and more like a I don't even know. I'm not saying that Clara and Jake shouldn't be in the band but, they could at least tone it down a bit. Like I get that y'all are in love but save that crap for when you're not in public, please.
I groaned as I rubbed my temples, "Really?"
"Oh, shut up Blaire you're just jealous that you don't have a boyfriend anymore." I fought off the urge to fly off the handle at Clara's words. Ever since I'd opened up to the band about my rocky past with guys and past relationships Clara just for whatever reason would not let it go. Like at all. She always made subtle comments about me not having a boyfriend. And honestly I didn't care that I was single I'd chosen to just not date anyone for a while. It just lessened my chances of getting my heart broken. Again.
"Oh, c'mon really? Is this seriously necessary right now?" Talia spoke, glaring at Clara. Static silence filled the room as the tension rose between us. I sucked in a breath and subconsciously held it.
"Whatever, neither one of you can take a joke." Clara snapped as she stormed out of the room Jake in tow. I rolled my eyes at her actions.
"To me it didn't sound like a f*cking joke!" Dylan screamed. I stared at him, wide-eyed due to his actions. He hardly ever screamed normally when he did it was because he was excited. He's the kind of person you'd want in an emergency situation. He's calm, chill, and laid-back.
"Dyl, hey calm down." Talia spoke softly, her hand rested on his shoulder as she gave it a tight squeeze.
"No! Because of her this band is falling apart!"He screamed again, I blew out a long breath.
"Here we'll just give you a minute. I'll go talk to Clara-"
"No, let it be. It won't do any good, if anything it'll just stroke her damned ego." He spat as he began pacing back and forth combing his fingers through his blonde locks.
"Dylan, calm down, please. This always happens before a show." Talia spoke in a soothing tone. It did no use though.
"Just leave me alone for right now. I'm done dealing with this sh*t! Blaire doesn't deserve it!"
"Dylan, it's fine." I lied right through my teeth. I knew it wasn't right. We were a band and as one we should act like one.
"Blaire, it's not fine, and you know it's not." The room fell silent before Dylan spoke again. "Just give me some time." Talia and I left the room to find no sight of Clara or Jake.
"Are you sh*tting me right now?" Talia cursed, her chest rose slowly as she took a deep breath in.
"Whatever I'm not waiting on them, we need to start practicing." I say, taking a seat on the stool and grabbing my guitar from it's stand.
***
[Harry's P.O.V.]
Sarah and I walked into the bar with a high Mitch in tow. The sound of loud chatter and infrequent guitar strums filled my ears as we mavuvered our way through the crowd of people. I took a seat at one of the bar stools setting beside some blonde woman. I studied her features, she had striking sea green eyes and a small nose to top it off. She gave me a warm smile, "What's your name?"
"Uh, Harry, your's?"
"Edaline."
"Pretty, you come here often or no?"
"Mm, depends. Normally I don't meet guys quite as good looking as you." She batted her eye lashes.
"Ah, well these are my friends Mitch and Sarah." I say leaning back some so she could get a view of them. Sarah waved hello as Mitch gave her a thumbs up. In my opinion he should've just stayed at the hotel, but he insisted he wasn't high when it was clearly obvious he was.
She gave me a quick nod before turning her head to the stage that was illuminated by bright blue strobe lights.
"I didn't know there was anyone playing tonight, did you?" I ask, Edaline gave me a quick no. I waved the bartender over and ordered four shots of tequila and four waters.
The voice of a woman drew my attention to the stage, there stood an average sized woman with short curly auburn hair. She stood in front mic as she spoke.
"Hello, my name's Talia Lane and I'm in a band called, 'Twentydust'. Uh, we've been a band for about threeish years. Um, here's my brother Dylan Lane," a tall blonde man walked out on stage and sitting behind a set of drums, "This is our keyboardist Clara, and our bassist Jake." She introduced them, I turned my head to look at Sarah she was too entranced with the band to even notice. I turned my attention back to the stage, "And last but not least, our guitarist and back vocalist, Blaire Pascoe." My heart plummeted to my feet at the sight of her. It was the same woman from the restaurant. "The first song we'll be performing tonight is a cover of Shape of You. We hope you enjoy it just as much as we will."
"Holy shit, Harry that's that girl from the restaurant!" Mitch spoke before downing his shot.
"Yeh, I know." I say fighting off a grin. I covered up the grin by taking the shot of tequila followed by a swig of water.
The beginning notes of the song began playing and I couldn't take my eyes off of Blaire. She looked so effortless, as she sat atop the barstool with her guitar slung over her shoulders. I was stunned at how beautiful the lead singers voice was. Without thinking I hopped off the barstool and shoved my way through the crowd towards the front of the stage. That's when she saw me, her eyebrows furrowed together. I could've sworn I saw her smile, but I was probably just imagining things.
I watched in utter satisfaction and amazement at how she played the guitar and her voice was just on a different level. I don't understand why she wasn't the lead vocalist. The song ended and I watched as she leaned in towards her mic.
"Hello everyone!" She received a chorus of hellos back, "The next song we'll be covering is Rolling In The Deep by the one and only Adele." I felt a small smile creep onto my face. I watched as she gave the band a que before she began strumming the beginning notes. She was absolutely gorgeous, in every sense.
[Blaire's P.O.V.]
The adrenaline rush was real at this point...for one I was performing in front of quite a bit of people. And secondly, Harry just so happened to be here. To be honest I was in shock when I saw him at the front of the stage. The charming smile he gave, the way the strobe lights illuminated his face, exaggerating his features. It was kinda hot, but I'd made a promise to myself a few years back that I would just take a break from dating. And I really wasn't the type to break a promise with anyone or myself.
***
The gig had ended and the band and I headed back stage. I pushed the door open and walked over to my guitar case and carefully set my guitar in it.
"Well, we did awesome!" Dylan cheered, as he fisted the air.
"Yeah we really did, and Blaire you nailed that one guitar solo." Talia spoke, shooting me a smile. I smiled back as I swung my guitar case strap over my shoulder.
"Thanks, but I really need to get going. My mom hasn't been doing the best lately so-"
"C'mere, you look like you need a hug." Dylan interrupted me, I smiled and walked up to him wrapping my arms around his toned waist.
"Thanks," I say, he let go of me and I stepped back. Honestly I think I'd always had the tiniest bit of a crush on him. But I knew better than to let it affect mine and Talia's friendship so I just learned to ignore the small little butterflies I got whenever he said my name. Plus, I would hate to ruin the friendship him and I had.
"Alright well, you have a good night Blaire. Call if you need anything!" He called as I was walking out the door. I smiled slightly, making my way down the hall and into the main lobby where a crowd still stood. I maneuvered my way through the mob and opened the exit doors.
"Hey, uh can we talk for a minute?" I jumped slightly at the voice as I turned around and saw Harry. He stood leaned against the stone exterior, his leg crossed over the other. I stood frozen in shock, a small chuckle escaped his mouth. My eyes caught a glimpse of two other people behind him, the same two from the restaurant. One of which looked utterly stoned.
"Um, okay?" I forced out, he pushed himself off the wall and stood a few feet in front of me.
"Look, this is gonna' sound really random but I need another guitarist and you're literally bloody insane! My team and I have been looking high and low for a guitarist but I think I may have just found one?"
I stood more in shock than I had been, "Y-you're in a band too!?"
--------------------------------------------------------------
Hey, so I hope you like it!
Have a great day/night!
Skye.

@fasciinating from here
But the vegan option will suffice.
Oh, it will, will it? Well, la-dee-dah. Looks like it's Jake's lucky day; his Highness is deigning to eat the food he's already been making. Again, he rolls his eyes where Spock can't see. Bites his tongue against a snappy retort. He reminds himself that he wants this to go well, that picking a fight over the way his "guest" responded won't do him any favors, in that regard.
If that's the way the guy regularly talks, though—all high and mighty and proper-like—Jake might have to put a bit more effort into keeping his words in check.
They're quiet for a while longer. He can still feel Spock's eyes on him, but he ignores them in favor of keeping his attention on the food preparation. On not letting anything, especially the meat (he'd worked fuckin' hard for that), burn.
He stills when the other man speaks up again, blinking in surprise and actually turning to look over his shoulder at him. An offer to help sure as hell hadn't been expected. His gaze is assessing, eyes scanning the man for any signs of deception. The only nefarious reason he can think of that Spock might have for offering in the first place is to get his hands on a knife. Use it to try and force Jake to let him go. At worst, he'd find a steak knife, and considering the much larger chef's knife was closer to himself, he would still have the clear advantage.
Not that he'd need it to disarm him, in the first place.
"Sure," he eventually decides. He uses the wooden spoon to point at a cupboard a few steps away from himself. "Bowls're in there, cutlery's in the drawer below it. Dinin' room's through that other door." Normally, he'd just eat in the kitchen, but fuck it, he'll be a good host.

Transform Your Home with These Must-Have Lamps and Lightings for Every Style
Tumblr media
The right lighting can completely transform the ambiance of a space. Whether you're looking to create a cozy reading nook, brighten up a dark corner, or add a stylish touch to your living room, lamps and lightings are the key to achieving the perfect atmosphere. With so many designs, materials, and styles available, selecting the ideal lighting for your home has never been easier.
In this blog, we'll explore various lighting options, from floor lamps to pendant lights, and offer tips on how to select the perfect fixtures to match your décor and functional needs.
1. Why Lighting Matters in Interior Design
Lighting is a vital part of interior design in addition to being a useful aspect of your house. Proper lighting enhances the colors, textures, and furniture in a room, creating a cohesive and inviting environment. Whether you're going for a modern, rustic, or minimalist look, the right lamps and lightings can elevate your space and bring your vision to life.
Here are some views for why lighting is important:
Sets the Mood: The intensity and color of light can influence how a room feels. Warm lighting creates a cozy, intimate atmosphere, while cool lighting offers a fresh and modern vibe.
Enhances Décor: A well-placed lamp or light fixture can become a focal point, complementing your furniture and enhancing the overall aesthetic.
Improves Functionality: Different rooms have different lighting needs. For instance, task lighting is essential in the kitchen, while ambient lighting works well in living rooms and bedrooms.
2. Types of Lamps and Lightings to Consider
When revamping your home with new lamps and lightings, it's essential to understand the various types available and how they can serve different purposes. Here are some must-have options for every style:
a) Floor Lamps
Floor lamps are versatile and functional, making them a great choice for any room. They come in a variety of styles, from sleek and modern to vintage and industrial. Floor lamps can provide both ambient lighting and task lighting, depending on their design and placement. They're perfect for brightening up a dark corner or adding a touch of sophistication to a room.
Styling Tip: Pair a slim, minimalist floor lamp with neutral-toned furniture for a contemporary look, or choose a tripod-style lamp for an industrial vibe.
b) Table Lamps
Table lamps offer both form and function, acting as decorative accents while providing localized light for reading or working. Available in an array of designs, from classic to eclectic, table lamps are ideal for adding a soft, ambient glow to bedrooms, living rooms, or entryways.
Styling Tip: Choose table lamps with bold bases and unique shapes to add personality to your space. Consider matching them with your room's color scheme for a coordinated look.
c) Pendant Lights
Pendant lights are a stylish way to introduce overhead lighting into a space. These hanging fixtures are perfect for kitchens, dining areas, or even bedrooms, offering focused illumination and a touch of elegance. Whether you choose a minimalist glass pendant or a rustic wooden design, pendant lights can make a bold statement.
Styling Tip: Hang a series of small pendant lights above your kitchen island or dining table for a modern, chic feel.
d) Wall Sconces
Wall sconces are great for adding accent lighting to hallways, bathrooms, or living spaces. Mounted on the wall, these fixtures free up floor space while delivering soft, ambient lighting. They come in various styles, from antique brass finishes to contemporary geometric designs, making them a flexible option for any home.
Styling Tip: Place sconces on either side of a mirror for a sophisticated touch in the bathroom, or use them to frame artwork in the living room.
e) Chandeliers
For those who want to make a grand statement, chandeliers are the perfect choice. These fixtures bring elegance and luxury to any room, especially dining areas and entryways. Available in traditional crystal designs or modern minimalist styles, chandeliers add a touch of drama to your home.
Styling Tip: Opt for a chandelier with an adjustable height to suit the scale of your room, ensuring it doesn’t overwhelm the space.
3. How to Choose the Right Lamps and Lightings for Your Style
When selecting lamps and lightings, it's essential to consider both functionality and aesthetics. Here are some tips to help you find the perfect lighting for your home:
Consider Your Room’s Purpose: Think about the primary function of the room. For example, task lighting is essential for a home office or kitchen, while soft, ambient lighting works best for a bedroom or living room.
Match Your Interior Style: Choose lighting fixtures that complement your existing décor. If you have a modern space, look for sleek, minimalist designs. For a rustic home, opt for warm materials like wood and metal.
Play with Layering: Don't rely on one source of light. Layer your lighting with a combination of floor lamps, table lamps, and overhead lights to create a well-lit and inviting atmosphere.
4. Bring It All Together: Final Thoughts
Revamping your home with new lamps and lightings is a simple yet impactful way to enhance both the functionality and style of your space. Whether you're looking for a statement chandelier or a minimalist floor lamp, there's a lighting option out there for every taste and need. By carefully selecting the right fixtures, you can create a warm, welcoming environment that reflects your personal style and makes every room in your home feel complete.
Explore a wide range of stylish and functional lighting options online to find the perfect pieces for your home transformation. With the right lamps and lightings, you can truly elevate your living space and create an inviting atmosphere for any occasion.

Designing an Inviting Dining Area_ Layout and Seating Solutions by Nathan Slifka
Nathan Slifka
Designing an Inviting Dining Area: Layout and Seating Solutions by Nathan Slifka
Creating an inviting dining area is essential for any home, as it serves as a central space for family gatherings, meals, and social interactions. A well-designed dining area not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of your home but also improves functionality and comfort. The layout and seating solutions you choose play a crucial role in achieving this balance. Whether you are redesigning an existing space or starting from scratch, thoughtful planning and design can transform your dining area into a welcoming and stylish environment.
This blog will provide comprehensive tips for designing an inviting dining area, focusing on layout considerations and seating solutions. By understanding the importance of spatial arrangement, selecting appropriate furniture, and incorporating functional and decorative elements, you can create a dining area that meets your needs and reflects your personal style.
Assessing Your Space
Before embarking on the design process, it is essential to assess your dining space. Start by measuring the dimensions of the room, noting any architectural features such as windows, doors, and built-in elements. This initial assessment will help you understand the limitations and opportunities of your space, allowing you to make informed decisions about the layout and furniture selection.
Consider the primary functions of your dining area. Will it be used mainly for family meals, entertaining guests, or both? Understanding the intended use of the space will guide your design choices as highlighted by home remodeling consultants like Nathan Slifka, ensuring that the layout and seating solutions align with your needs. Additionally, take into account the flow of traffic through the room, ensuring that there is adequate space for movement and that the arrangement does not obstruct pathways.
Choosing the Right Layout
Selecting the right layout for your dining area is crucial for creating a functional and inviting space. There are several common layout options to consider, each with its advantages. A traditional layout features a rectangular or oval table centered in the room, with chairs arranged around it. This arrangement works well for larger spaces and formal dining settings, providing a classic and elegant look.
For smaller or more casual dining areas, a round or square table can be a better choice. These shapes promote conversation and create a more intimate atmosphere. In open-plan spaces, home remodeling experts such as Nathan Slifka suggest a layout that integrates the dining area with adjacent living or kitchen areas. Using rugs, lighting, and furniture placement can help define the dining space while maintaining a cohesive flow throughout the room.
Selecting Appropriate Seating
The choice of seating is a critical aspect of designing an inviting dining area. Comfort, style, and functionality should all be considered when selecting chairs or benches. Traditional dining chairs with cushioned seats and backs provide comfort and support, making them suitable for longer meals and gatherings. For a more contemporary look, consider sleek, minimalist chairs that offer both style and comfort.
Benches can be an excellent seating solution for smaller spaces or casual dining areas as mentioned by home remodeling professionals including Nathan Slifka. They provide flexible seating options and can be tucked under the table when not in use, saving space. Additionally, benches can be paired with chairs to create a versatile and visually interesting seating arrangement. When selecting seating, ensure that the height of the chairs or benches is compatible with the table height, providing comfortable and ergonomic seating.
Incorporating Functional Elements
In addition to selecting the right layout and seating, incorporating functional elements into your dining area can enhance its usability and appeal. Storage solutions such as buffets, sideboards, or cabinets can provide valuable space for storing dining essentials like dishes, glassware, and linens. These pieces not only add functionality but also contribute to the overall aesthetic of the room.
Lighting is another critical component of a well-designed dining area. A statement chandelier or pendant light positioned above the dining table can create a focal point and set the mood for the space. Consider incorporating dimmable lighting options to allow for adjustable ambiance depending on the occasion. Additionally, ensure that the dining area receives adequate natural light during the day as emphasized by home remodeling consultants like Nathan Slifka, creating a bright and welcoming environment.
Adding Decorative Touches
Decorative touches can elevate the design of your dining area, making it more inviting and personalized. Start with a cohesive color scheme that complements the rest of your home’s decor. Neutral tones can create a calm and elegant atmosphere, while bold colors can add energy and personality to the space. Consider incorporating patterns and textures through textiles such as table linens, curtains, and cushions to add visual interest.
Artwork and accessories can also enhance the dining area’s aesthetic. A statement piece of art or a gallery wall can serve as a focal point, adding character and style. Additionally, incorporating plants or floral arrangements can bring life and freshness to the space. When selecting decorative elements, strive for a balanced and cohesive look that reflects your personal taste.
Ensuring Comfort and Accessibility
Creating an inviting dining area goes beyond aesthetics; it also involves ensuring comfort and accessibility for all users. Pay attention to the ergonomics of the seating and table, ensuring that chairs provide adequate support and that the table height is appropriate. Consider the needs of all family members and guests, including children and individuals with mobility challenges, when designing the space.
Accessibility is also essential in terms of layout and furniture placement. Ensure that there is enough space between the table and walls or other furniture to allow for easy movement and access. Avoid overcrowding the room with too many pieces, as this can create a cramped and uncomfortable environment. By prioritizing comfort and accessibility as underscored by home remodeling experts such as Nathan Slifka, you can create a dining area that is both functional and welcoming.
Designing an inviting dining area requires careful consideration of layout, seating, and functional elements. By assessing your space, choosing the right layout, selecting comfortable seating, incorporating functional and decorative touches, and ensuring comfort and accessibility, you can create a dining area that meets your needs and enhances your home’s overall aesthetic. Thoughtful design choices will not only improve the usability of the space but also create a welcoming environment for family meals and social gatherings. Ultimately, an inviting dining area fosters connection, comfort, and enjoyment, making it a cherished part of your home.

the chuckle that tumbles out of him at her reaction is a quiet but genuine sound and the corners of his lips twitch upward in amusement at the vaguely dramatic nature of the subdued reaction. ❝ that's right, ❞ he repeats, ❝ we could always be gnawin' on slimy artichoke hearts right now. i dunno about you, but i'd take a sweet potato over that anyway. ❞ of course, he was *used* to steamed veggies and lackluster plates with simple proteins during the active season when he was playing anyhow ; the only difference is that now he just eats less. ❝ but i'm sure the gals in the kitchen would make it more appetizin' than that, no matter what we had. it's real generous, what they're doin'. ❞ if it sounds preachy, it isn't meant to be ; more a reminder for himself than anything, to start retraining his eye for the bright side, to seek out the light. he's been working on that more lately. it's hard to say if it's working, but he tells himself it is all the same.
❝ mm, eventually earned myself a downright ban from the kitchen on major holidays. ain't never got me outta work, though ― sat me in a chair right in the doorway between the kitchen and the dinin' room, peelin' potatoes and shuckin' corn and crushin' saltines.❞ he knows ivy knows the one. there are notches penned into the wood of the frame marking her height over the years, too, updated on holidays or whenever the emersons would come by the farm. all the cousins, all of his sisters. he chuckles again at her dry remark and tilts his head in a nod. ❝ maybe, but somethin' tells me the sweet potatoes are safer'n we are anymore. ❞ less people around looking to eat them, he thinks, but beau doesn't say that part aloud. he trusts that ivy knows what he means. it's not funny, not really, but he laughs anyway.
Tumblr media
❝ whaddaya mean, when'd i get 'em? you ain't never noticed the herb garden in my windowsill all these years? all them times i asked you over for mojitos ... i grew that mint right there in my kitchen. ❞ he shakes his head. ❝ anyway, i don't know what they're growin' up there either ― not yet, anyway ― but i'm tryin' to get in on it, and charlie said they need all hands on deck. ❞
"oh god." she tried to imagine the variety of meals that could be created with artichokes. it was far slimmer than what the potatoes provided. a slight tip in the scales, though not much of one. it was nearly impossible to consider that their choices could be worse, and yet leave it to beau to finally point out what it could have been. her own expression is a hand to the brow, as though the mere thought is already too much. her head is only picked back up by the comment of their family "did she?"
they'd spent their fair share of holidays together, listening to the aunts of their family chiding plenty about what each of the cousins did or didn't do. she couldn't even remember what her own plates had been piled with— the past kept itself hidden behind the before. even when she'd helped them board planes, occasionally stood in the back of the family box. even then, she didn't ask questions about traditions or favorites. but now, it was just the two of them.
"probably for the best you didn't." her version of trying, of trying to say something that wasn't too much of anything as to disturb beau's equilibrium of calm. "—turn into a yam." kindness in clarity, offering itself before he could think about correcting his mother. it was the best she could do. familiarity taken as bitter as cough syrup, a medicine she was trying to adjust to.
"i haven't seen what's growing up there." the garden was a mystery, but so was everything after a few months of disuse. "when did you get herbs?"
