[ad_1] Image Souce: AIFF -AIFF Media Team KATHMANDU, NEPAL: India took their appointed place in the semi-finals of the SAFF Women’s Championship 2024 alright, but failed to solve the Bangladesh riddle again as they went down to their neighbours from the eastern borders 1-3 at the Dasharath Stadium on Wednesday, October 23, 2024. All the goals came in the first half. Though India had ensured a place in the last four even before the start of the match, the defeat reduced them to the runners-up spot in Group A with three points in their kitty. Bangladesh, who struggled during their 1-1 draw against Pakistan, ended with four points. A half an hour of midfield domination by Bangladesh initially proved the source of trouble for India as Afeida Khandaker (18’) and Player of the Match Tohura Khatun (29’) scored to put the defending champions on the saddle with a 2-0 lead. Khatun struck another in the 42nd minute to widen the lead before skipper Bala Devi reduced the margin with a deft header after Dalima Chhibber sent the cross from the right. This was the 12th time the two teams met in the international arena. The result came in India’s favour on nine occasions and once it was drawn, but the two defeats came in back-to-back matches now. In 2022, India lost to Bangladesh in the group stage before surrendering their crown of five-time champions in the semi-finals. There was no reason to believe it was a one-sided contest on Wednesday, whatever the scoreline suggests. India woke up well after conceding two goals and made attacks that could have fetched goals. A cross from Ranjana Chanu from the left in the 35th minute had a goal written all over it, but Bala Devi’s shot from close was blocked by an advancing Bangladesh goalkeeper Rupna Chakma. The Bangladesh custodian came to her team’s rescue once again in the second half when substitute Jyoti barged in to take a strong shot. Rupna was not to be beaten, this time, too. Jyoti was in the thick of things a few minutes later again. This time substitute Rimpa Haldar, who made her debut, was the provider, but Jyoti was a trifle late in reaching the ball. All said and done, the match was won and lost in the first 30 minutes when Bangladesh picked up two goals to take charge of the situation. In between, India suffered a setback when midfielder Anju Tamang had to make way for Aruna Bag because of an injury in the 27th minute. It severely dented the Blue Tigresses’ attacking options. All of India’s troubles were generated by dipping crosses in the box. The first goal was off a corner and Afeida Khandaker lobbed it past Panthoi Chanu. India conceded the second goal when a hopeful lob from the left saw Khatun rushing in to take advantage of the situation. Her second strike, however, was a pile-driver from just outside the box. India 1 (Bala Devi 44’) lost to Bangladesh 3 (Afeida Khandaker 18’, Tohura Khatun 29’, 42’) India: Elangbam Panthoi Chanu (GK); Sorokhaibam Ranjana Chanu, Juli Kishan, Loitongbam Ashalata Devi (Soumya Guguloth, 80’), Dalima Chhibber (Rimpa Haldar 52’); Sanju, Sangita Basfore (Linthoiingambi Devi Maibam 80’), Anju Tamang (Aruna Bag 27’), Grace Dangmei; Ngangom Bala Devi (C) (Jyoti, 52’), Manisha. Quinton de Kock, bowlers fire Mumbai Indians to top after 34-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in Sharjah
New Post has been published on https://jordarnews.in/quinton-de-kock-bowlers-fire-mumbai-indians-to-top-after-34-run-win-over-sunrisers-hyderabad-in-sharjah/
Quinton de Kock, bowlers fire Mumbai Indians to top after 34-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in Sharjah
Mumbai Indians have done what no other team has managed so far in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 — restrict an opposition to less than 200 in Sharjah, which has become a nightmare for bowlers this season. Rohit Sharma’s men though managed to showcase their class with the ball as they clinched a 34-run win after post 208 on the board in the first match of Sunday’s double-header.
David Warner hit form despite starting slow to hit a 44-ball 60 but it was not enough as Mumbai Indians bowlers executed their plans to perfection to put out a blueprint for the rest of the teams to follow. Sunrisers were restricted to 174 for 7 at the end of 20 overs.
Mumbai Indians are now on top of the IPL 2020 points table with 3 wins from 4 matches and a better Net Run Rate than Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore who are also tied at 6 points each.
There were yorkers, slower balls, short balls banged into the pitch and some perfectly-executed wide ones as Mumbai made sure Hyderabad never had the momentum in their steep chase. Jonny Bairstow got going early but the pressure accumulated after Warner’s slow start got to him as he was dismissed for 26 by Trent Boult.
IPL 2020 Full Coverage
The New Zeland pacer was on top of his game as he got the big wickets of Bairstow and his New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson who guided a slower-ball bouncer straight into the hands of de Kock. James Pattinson, once again, shone for Mumbai Indians as the big Australia quick got the scalps of Warner and Manish Pandey while conceding just 29 runs.
The star of the day was Krunal Pandya as he shone with the ball as well as the bat. The dependable all-rounder gave away just 35 runs and picked up the wicket of in-form Priyam Garg to dent the SRH chase.
Bumrah was relatively expensive but he closed out the match with a brilliant 19th over in which he picked up the wickets of Abdul Samad and Abhishek Sharma. Kieron Pollard delivered the knockout blow as he gave away just 2 runs in the final over.
Krunal Pandya late blitz takes Mumbai Indians past 200
Earlier in the day, it was a Krunal late blitz that helped Mumbai Indians avoid becoming the first team to not post 200 or more at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The left-arm batsman hit 20 runs in the last 4 balls, smashing Siddharth Kaul for 2 sixes and as many boundaries. MI collected 21 runs in their last over to take their tally to 208.
Sunrisers Hyderabad missed their ever-dependable Bhuvneshwar Kumar who missed the tie on the Super Sunday with a hamstring injury. His replacement Kaul had a poor afternoon as he leaked 64 runs in 4 overs — the most expensive figure so far at IPL 2020.
Quinton de Kock repays faith shown by Rohit Sharma
Captain Rohit Sharma failed to trouble the scorers much as he was the only MI batsman with a single-digit score. However, under-fire Quinton de Kock repaid the trust the management has shown in him by smashing a 39-ball 67 before Rashid Khan came up with a brilliant caught and bowled effort. De Kock had to perform as Chris Lynn has been waiting in the wings and the South African wicketkeeper-batsman made sure he got a big score at the right time.
Suyakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan continued their impressive run with cameos in the middle but it was Kieron Pollard who got the big hits out in the end overs once again. The West Indies all-rounder, who has been in fine form at IPL 2020, hit 13-ball 25 while Hardik Pandya hit a 19-ball 28.
Sunrisers Hyderabad could have easily conceded in excess of 220 had it not been for the fine spells of bowling from Rashid Khan and T Natarajan. On a day when all the other SRH bowlers conceded at over 10, Rashid got the wicket of De Kock and finished with 22 for 1. Natarajan got his yorkers on spot, once again at the death to finish with figures of 0 for 29.

Quinton de Kock comeback weaves silver lining for Mumbai Indians in bittersweet season
IPL 2020: Mumbai Indians have little to worry about as star batsman Quinton de Kock, under the weather in the first 4 games, is back in full power.
Quinton de Kock in action against CSK in IPL 2020 opener. (Courtesy of BCCI)
HIGHLIGHTS
Quinton de Kock scored a 39-ball 67 after Rohit’s early departure against SRH
Mumbai Indians put up a total of 208/5 in Sharjah on double-header day
De Kock scored his 11 IPL fifty, playing against SRH in Sharjah
Another IPL 2020 day at the Sharjah cricket stadium and another total of 200 or more. Sharjah has almost nothing to offer to the bowlers, not everyone is a Harshal Patel who was recently on a hattrick at Sharjah, but the batsmen who can make the full use of it will surely end up boosting their numbers this IPL season. For Mumbai Indians’ Quinton de Kock it was a two-fold form of a boon as the star wicketkeeper-batsman announced his comeback after having been under the weather in the first 4 games.
As Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma walked out for the toss in the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad, he became the 2nd most capped player in the history of the IPL. But the Mumbai captain, who has led his team to 4 Indian Premier League titles, had a few things to worry about. Firstly, their 2-2 form after having lost the opener against CSK and the Super Over to RCB.
For skipper Rohit Sharma, his main worry was his opening partner’s declining form. Not Rohit Sharma, but Quinton de Kock was the highest scorer for Mumbai Indians in the 2019 season of the IPL. Only behind David Warner (692) and KL Rahul (593), de Kock was the 3rd highest scorer in IPL 12 with 529 runs for the 2019 champion side of the tournament.
Naturally, de Kock being out of form was a worry for Mumbai Indians as they are yet to be the dominating side in this season. The ailing team found its respite and healing in the South African batsman as he made a comeback in full power by scoring a 39-ball 67, also his 11th IPL fifty, after having managed a total of only 48 runs in the first 4 outings of IPL 2020.
Sunrisers Hyderabad could breathe a sigh of relief as Rohit Sharma was dismissed by Sandeep Sharma for just 6 runs off 5 balls in the very first over. But de Kock decided that this would be his day and fired up the innings for Mumbai by forming a decent partnership with Suryakumar Kumar and then a significant 78-run stand with Ishan Kishan for the 3rd wicket. By the time Rashid Khan dismantled the South African captain, Mumbai were already looking settled and accelerated with 126/3 off 13.1 overs. From there, with the help of quickfire cameos from the Pandya brothers and Pollard, Mumbai were able to put up a total of 208/5.
